Sleeping was like breathing for Silver. It was second nature, sinking into the murky waters of dreams and navigating their waves.

Waking up was always difficult because of this. She was always too deep in the waters, too lost in their immensity, not even feeling the changes in the world around her.

So imagine her surprise when she woke up in the middle of the night to the soft sound of a phone ringing. Not one of her thousands of alarm clocks, not the sound of her roommates' voices, and not even her own instinct for danger.

No, none of that. What woke her up was the soft ring of a phone. Silver's own cell phone, which was next to her on the bed. Its screen glowed slightly, displaying someone's face accompanied by white letters that were difficult for someone who had just woken up to understand, but the number of emojis around it gave a clear indication of who it was after all.

Strange. Why was she calling Silver? Normally, she would just show up in her friend's room babbling about her day.

"Kalim? Did something happen?" Silver sat up in bed as she answered the phone, finally rubbing her eyes in an attempt to shake off her eternal sleepiness.

"AH! SILVER! Sorry!! I didn't think you'd actually be awake, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try... It's nothing super important or worrisome, I promise! If you want to go back to sleep, I'll totally understand." Kalim's voice was cheerful, full of fun and a hint of nervousness that was special. However, there was something extra in her words, something hidden between them that made Silver a little more alert.

"I don't mind. What happened?" Silver tries to sound soft, remembering her childhood with Lilia. In the early hours of the morning, when Silver felt restless, the fae would lie down with the girl and tell her stories of her adventures.

"...I ended up doing something stupid. It's...it's really silly, I tried to do something on my own and ended up messing everything up and I don't know how to fix it." Kalim's voice sounded increasingly tearful as she tried to explain herself. Anxious, nervous about it all. If Kalim of all people seemed so alarmed, it must be something big.

"I understand." Silver says calmly, getting up from her bed, easily reaching for her pen. "Is it okay if I go there?" She asked, skillfully swinging the object, turning her pajamas into her dorm uniform.

"Huh? Are you sure?" Kalim sounded a little surprised before letting out a little chuckle. She seemed less nervous, more like herself. "Only you could be my knight in shining armor, Sil! I'll ask the carpet to wait for you at the entrance to Scarabia. Thank you so much."

"Always at your service, Kalim." Those who heard her and didn't know Silver well might interpret these words as having a cold tone. An eternal disinterest. But those who knew her would see her faint smile, the way her eyes were soft, and how her steps were a little hurried, as if she wanted to get there quickly.

By Silver's standards, she was running toward Kalim not unlike how Sebek did with Malleus. And if Lilia saw it, she would laugh loudly, saying how her apprentices were fearless knights saving princesses in danger.

Silver just hoped she would be able to help her princess in question.

Kalim had definitely screwed up. And Silver, even though she cared deeply for her friend, was absolutely certain that the moment Jamil woke up, Kalim would end up being buried alive by the Viper.

Kalim's voluminous, well-groomed hair, which reached her waist, was now only halfway down her back, chopped up as if a 3-year-old had decided to permanently change her doll's hairstyle.

It was hard to explain how badly it was cut. Lilia's hairstyle looked more organized than whatever Kalim had in mind for her own hair.

"Jamil is going to kill you." Those were Silver's first words when she found herself in Kalim's room with her. The dark-skinned girl let out a desperate sigh as she wrapped herself in the covers, hiding her hair.

"It was an accident! I didn't mean for it to turn out so bad! Jamil usually cuts my hair, but I wanted to do it myself this time, you know? To prove to Jamil that I could totally cut my own hair and maybe after that she would let me help her in the kitchen, but..." Kalim sighed deeply, grabbing her fluffy pillow and hiding her face in it.

"Could it... be worse?" Silver says uncertainly, sitting on Kalim's bed next to her. She gently strokes the young woman's back, who sighs once more before throwing herself into Silver's lap, using her thighs as a pillow.

"Can you put orange camellias at my funeral, Sil? I love those flowers." Kalim says dramatically, making Silver giggle. Sometimes Kalim imitated the way Cater and Lilia acted, and it always made Silver laugh.

It was cute. Sometimes she wondered if Kalim had any of her habits that Silver had never noticed.

"I promise I'll get them for you someday, but it would be better if you could enjoy them while you're alive, right? But anyway, why call me of all people for hair problems, Kalim? I'm not exactly known for knowing how to deal with that." Silver still remembered Vil's horrified scream when she told her she only used soap on her hair. She also remembered how loudly Leona laughed at Vil's horrified reaction to the situation.

"I thought about calling Catty, but then I remembered Lily saying that you used to cut her hair, right? I thought you'd know how to deal with something like this." Kalim smiled at Silver, who was surprised by the young woman's words.

Silver had helped Lilia with her hair, yes, but it was only for a short time before Lilia got tired of hairstyles and colors and simply shaved her head a few years ago. It was a difficult time for her, Sebek, and Malleus to see Lilia with her head completely shaved. Since then, Lilia used to shave her head during summer vacation and let her hair "do its own thing."

Silver thought it was silly. Malleus thought it was silly. Sebek almost shaved her head to accompany Lilia on such a journey.

"I suppose so? But I think it would have been more effective if you had called Riddle, Azul, or Jade." Silver stands up, pulling Kalim with her to the young woman's dressing table and making her sit down. While Kalim waits, Silver looks for Kalim's scissors and a brush.

"Riddle would definitely tell Jamil! Azul would too, she likes to please Jamil, you know?" Silver wouldn't say that she likes to please Jamil, Azul seems more intent on getting on her nerves for attention. "The twins would definitely have made my hair crazier! Which I would normally appreciate, but I don't think Jamil would forgive me for that." The girl shuddered at the mere thought of how Jamil would react after seeing a hairstyle created by the twins.

There would probably be a big fire.

"Yes, I think I was the best option." Silver sighs, looking closely at Kalim's whitish hair. The cut was very ugly, but it was strange how high it was, after all, Kalim had had the same haircut since she had met her, and she had only ever seen Jamil trim the ends.

Maybe Silver should point this out, this strange fact, but when she looked at the mirror reflecting them, she couldn't help but hesitate. Kalim looked down at her hands, thoughtful, fiddling with her bracelets over and over again.

Kalim had been like this, thoughtful, since winter break. She didn't tell Silver or Lilia exactly what happened at Jamil's overblot, she kept out of the details, only saying that she was partly to blame for the events.

Silver wondered if she was really to blame, or if it was just Kalim blaming herself for events she had no control over.

"How short do you want your hair?" Silver asks, instead of the hundreds of other questions in her mind, making Kalim stare at Silver's reflection in the mirror. A friendly smile, but also a little confused.

"Oh, I don't know? I've never cut my hair except to trim the ends." Kalim shrugs, pulling one of the strands with her fingertips. "I started growing it long because of...well when I was a kid, I wanted to match Jamil, so I let it grow to be the same length as hers, but mine went a little past that." Kalim smiles at Silver, a cheerful smile, but Silver could see the hint of sadness that Kalim was trying to ignore.

Jamil's hair reached halfway down the girl's back, not far from where Kalim's disastrous haircut had taken place. There would be no problem cutting it to that length, leaving both girls with hair the same length.

But...

"My mom keeps shaving her hair, you know?" Silver says lightly, starting to comb Kalim's hair. The Al Asim heiress makes a noise that sounds like laughter mixed with a questioning sound. Kalim looked confused, but found the direction of the conversation funny.

"Does she look pretty without hair?"

"Oh, no, she looks awful. Sebek's grandmother says she looks like a rotten egg that was painted by a blind child with no hands." Kalim lets out an exasperated, loud, guilty laugh, covering her mouth with her hand in an attempt to muffle the sound. Silver also laughs, quietly but genuinely. "Yes, I know, Malleus choked when we heard her saying that for the first time, to the point that water came out of her nose."

It was one of Silver's favorite memories. The way Sebek tried to help Malleus clear her throat, while Malleus laughed in an almost maniacal way. The way Sebek's father almost pulled his mother's ear, complaining about the way she spoke in front of the children. And the way Lilia whined, as dramatically as possible, to Silver about how no one was on her side but her own daughter.

Silly, dumb and childlish, but it was something Silver liked to remember.

"Anyway, my mom does this every New Year's Eve. She says she 'likes to start the new year with new memories,' a fresh start for everything, you know?"

"New memories?"

"Yeah, some older faes say that hair carries part of your memories. Our whole body changes, our cells die and are reborn, but despite a few strands that are lost, hair retains memories and older versions of you." Silver looks at Kalim through the reflection. The girl looked shocked, but gradually entered her reflective state as she pulled on the pendants of her bracelet.

"You know, Sil, you were my first friend." Kalim's words take Silver by surprise; it was a drastic change of subject. Had she pushed too hard? She feared that Kalim had withdrawn deeper into herself.

"What about Jamil?" Silver asks, trying to sound soft and calm, her hand finally reaching for the scissors and beginning to trim Kalim's hair, an attempt to even out the cut.

"Hm, it's different! Jamil and I have always been friends, we grew up together in the same house, but Silver was my first friend at school!" Kalim's voice was cheerful, her smile animated on her face, but her fingers still fiddled with the gold bracelets on her wrist.

"Oh, then I would say you are my first friend too." Kalim's ruby eyes stared into Silver's lilac eyes, filled with confusion and disbelief. "Malleus practically raised me alongside my mother, I would say we are closer to sisters than friends. And Sebek was raised alongside me, both of us being my mother's apprentices." Silver explained, leaving out a few points.

Like the fact that the children of Briar Valley didn't like Silver's presence. Which was valid, she knew the stories of war between humans and fae, and Briar Valley's isolation from the rest of the world contributed to all the dislike for her. This never bothered Silver, it just saddened her until one day she got used to it.

Not that her classmates were drastically different from those children, they also treated Silver as if she didn't fit in at school, no matter how hard she tried at times. And maybe that should hurt, but for every two people who treated Silver this way, there were five who made her feel included.

Maybe that was the reason Silver's hair was so long, considering that during her life she had kept it at chin length and now it reached her shoulders. Maybe part of her didn't want to forget the memories she made at NRC.

"We're each other's first friends," Kalim says softly, but Silver saw a genuine smile slowly spreading across Kalim's face. Her eyes sparkled with pure joy, a genuineness that made Silver smile without even noticing.

"Yes, I think we are." Silver agrees, turning her attention to Kalim's hair. "Thank you for being my friend, Kalim." It is kind, sweet, filled with deep affection. Kalim was special to Silver, and even if one day Kalim ceased to be her friend, her mark would forever remain in Silver's heart.

Kalim turned, facing Silver's face, who looked at her friend a little confused. She had almost missed the cut with Kalim's movement, but Silver didn't even have a chance to say anything about it before Kalim threw herself into Silver's arms. It was a tight, almost desperate hug, with Kalim's face hidden in Silver's shoulder.

"Thank you for being my friend, Silver." The words sounded muffled, but she could still understand them. This filled Silver's heart with a deep joy that spread throughout her entire body. It was so simple, so silly, but it made Silver feel extremely happy.

They stayed hugged for almost a whole minute. And when they pulled apart, Silver noticed the way Kalim's eyes sparkled. Not with happiness or sadness, but with tears that the girl refused to let fall.

"Silver, can you cut my hair the same length as yours?" Kalim asked, a big smile on her face, her eyes fixed on their reflection in the mirror.

"Are you sure?"

"Mhm, I think I'm ready to make new memories! I'm sure the best ones will go to the roots." Kalim says cheerfully, looking determinedly at their reflection. Her smile was lively, there was a fire in her eyes mixed with the tears that refused to fall.

Like a bonfire lit in the middle of a storm.

"Yes, they probably will." Silver agrees, with a light laugh at the end.

If Kalim cried when Silver cut off a good part of her hair, neither of them would comment. What really mattered was not this process, it was not the way Kalim seemed to lose confidence with each cut of the scissors, but the way she looked at her hair in wonder at the end of it all.

"How does it feel?" Silver asks, placing a hand on Kalim's shoulder. The girl stares at the other, her expression slowly changing to a big, happy smile, her eyes shining with a happiness that only Kalim could reflect.

"I feel light.”

And that seemed more than perfect to Silver.

LOVE:TWISTED, directed by Dire Crowley, aired March 18, 2020, is a hit reality romance drama wherein well-known figures are put against each other. The prize? The love of the show's protagonist, Yuu.

However, it seems a different romance has been brewing behind the scenes, revealing itself in the last episode of LOVE:TWISTED Season 3.

Kalim Al-Asim, known for his love of music, dancing, parties, and his fun, happy personality that brings joy to fans all over the globe, suddenly kissed fellow competitor and co-star Silver on screen during the episode's ending segment.

The kiss shocked the cast members, audience and Silver himself. Silver, who is known for his love of nature, his beautiful voice, and his awkward, serious but charming personality is notorious for his blank expressions.

Screenshots of Silver's reaction spread on social networks such as MagiCam, MyLog, and TweetTweet with hashtags: #KaliSil, #SilverLV:TWSTD, #KalimLV:TWSTD trending in Scarabia and Briar Valley for three days after. Fans have taken to making edits, memes, and art of the now iconic kiss scene.
