thanks to a pretty equal combination of @.doveywovy's posts about tobiizu, and one particular fic which I keep meaning to write a rec for on account of it permanently changing my understanding of the ship (currently my favourite blog and fiv respectively ngl. I'll link the fic in question too),,,,my favourite depiction of izuna x tobirama is absolutely yandere4yandere

I firmly believe though that they absolutely don't take the same approach to their respective insanity. they're both freaks yes but not in the same way, that would be far too simple. often in ways that complement each other! which is why they (sort of) function as a ship,,,but not the same way

for example let's say there's a depiction of them with yandere type characterisation right and specifically looking at that trope of like "only I can have you" right?

I'm pretty sure that if we assume they both held that as something important to them, Izuna would approach it differently to Tobirama

Izuna would be like "only I can have you" <- mandate reinforced with bloodshed

Tobirama on the other hand would be like "only I can have you" <- law of the universe, more difficult to disprove than gravity

and this would influence their behaviour because it would mean that Izuna would be more of the stereotypical yandere in that he reacts with threats, considerable violence and even murder to anyone he THINKS may have even considered Tobirama in a romantic or sexual light for 0.0001 seconds. He considers that type of behaviour from others to threaten his own relationship with Tobirama, which of course is not acceptable in any form. "Only I can have you" is a mandate that Izuna reinforces with bloodshed, and frequently at that. So far, by some miracle, nobody's made a problem of his behaviour (surely its not been completely unnoticed? maybe people are too scared to bring it up or maybe Izuna's strengths are so far outweighing the drawbacks still? who knows, who cares. Not Izuna)

Tobirama on the other hand cares considerably less about the potential for anyone else to for example flirt with Izuna - or even vice versa - than can be considered normal for a serious, exclusive+monogamous relationship. Like most people would probably be upset if they were in a monogamous relationship and saw their boyfriend snogging someone else but Tobirama does not care at all. This is because in order for Tobirama to feel upset or threatened by the idea of Izuna cheating on him or potentially breaking up with him, he'd first have to ACKNOWLEDGE that as a possibility and he just...Doesn't. Tobirama is Izuna's only partner and the only person he has ever or will care for in the same sense, and as far as Tobirama is concerned this is a truth more fundamental than gravity; "only I can have you" is a simple fact of life. Someone has definitely tried to mention to him before 'hey I think I saw your boyfriend on a date with someone else yesterday...Doesn't that bother you? That he might love someone else? Might break up with you to be with them?' and Tobirama has just stared at them like they're the most stupid person alive. Complete incomprehension of the concept. No, obviously he's not worried about that, same as he's not worried the sky will suddenly turn green or gravity will decide to reverse itself. It's not a physical possibility so why worry about it? That would just be a waste of time and effort

Izuna constantly reinforces Tobirama's understanding of the world by the way. Because Izuna is very pretty and he will absolutely flirt with people or even have sex with them BUT he also not infrequently kills them afterwards, and basically always returns to Tobirama bitching about how inferior that other person was to Tobirama in x and y way and how Tobirama is so much better at z but hey Izuna got such-and-such information out of that person, or managed to secure such-and-such from this person via seduction, so he did it anyway, and Tobirama had better appreciate what he does for him. So Tobirama's there like 'as I said. Izuna doesn't give a shit about anyone except me. He's just very good at manipulating others for his own benefit and it's very sexy of him tbh'

This overall leads to a very weird dynamic where all three things are true

1) Izuna and Tobirama are in a closed monogamous relationship, theoretically?

2) If you breathe in Tobirama's direction for too long, or god forbid, make eye contact, Izuna may kill you for making a move on his man

3) You could have three rounds of sex with Izuna right in front of Tobirama and Tobirama would be v smugly watching like look at my boyfriend go he's gonna wring this moron of every resource they've got I'm so proud

Spirit of Retribution (Spirit of Grief)

A little sketch I did of Katsushi from Turn In Such Humanity by @simkjrs, a very fun founders era fic whose Tobirama is now my headcanon. If you haven't read it yet (and you have the time to inevitably fall down a 500k word rabbithole) I'd highly recommend it and its companion piece Let The Devil In for some wonderful platonic insanity and extra Izuna.

I reread the without a softness showing series. It's been roughly 3 years since my last read (according to my bookmarks at least) and God. Do you know the way sometimes you can go back to a fic and it doesn't hit the same? Yeah, none of that. You and Simkjrs both make it so so easy to fall in love with the way you write your characters, and feeling emotionally attached to them.

It was an intimate experience. I genuinely felt a bit like a voyeur, peaking at the events occurring in Izuna's own mind, and into the workings of the Uchiha clan. I think the best way to sum up how I felt by the end of the tulmutous emotional journey Izuna takes us through, is achingly sad. The horrifying experiences of war, and the reality of body-defilement that all the characters living in this world have to endure, most especially the Uchiha clan, that have the threat of bloodline thieves among other things constantly hanging over their heads. The difficult parental relationships, and the complicated sibling relationships too, Izuna's constant need to keep up with all the expectations placed on him as the clan heir, and needing to keep up with Tobirama's monstrous growth rate. The grief, and painful experiences that he has had to deal with, that still have his soul in their grip. Izuna's duty to his clan, the responsibility that comes with being born into power. The depth and meticulous writing of all these issues bring Izuna utterly too life, and convey with them the force of all his strongly felt emotions. The events occurring are full of political underlying forces, and personal aspects relating to each character, and it is so deeply nuanced and tragic that the only word that does not feel too overbearing or incapable of describing the truth of my own emotions is sad. That sadness that comes with the weight of the whole world with it, and leaves pangs of aches. It is extremely hard to not deeply relate to Izuna as a character. The world building in this work is simply amazing. Details for how different clans operate inwardly, intra-clan politics, and intra-clan wars very clearly show how much thought went into fleshing it all out.

Anyways. Moral of the story is I love you, this is amazing and I was writing a much much longer proper review but it got. Deleted. So. Off to write a lil message for Simkjrs. Oh, and I absolutely love Kuroji, and the little interactions izuna had with him at night, and yeah. God I was sobbing. I'll write a proper review again someday.

Izuna was really a gateway to me for writing really involved character writing. He was conceived as the most volatile possible outsider POV to Tobirama's autism, but once Simkjrs picked up Tobirama, it also became a challenge of making Izuna's behaviour really erratic to Tobirama's outsider POV, particularly Tobirama's very repressed, painstakingly maintained rules and obligations. Trying to make them perfect foils carved new pathways in my brain.

Very little of what Izuna does makes sense, because everything he does is dominated by insecurity and reflexive emotional reactions, and writing a character who is impossible to interpret on the outside that also makes perfect sense to a reader provides you a really awesome pov experience. I highly recommend everyone to try writing an unreliable narrator who's hobby is lying to themselves.

I'm especially touched by how vivid the world is to you because... I did sort of wing a lot of it and patched holes as I went. lol.

On the comment submission page, there is the “Notice of Inquiry” document where the Office literally gives you what questions they want answers to (p12-21) - and there’s a LOT of them. Like, 50 at least. (It’s honestly so prohibitive to the average creative, which is why I made this guide). You DON’T have to answer every single question - just pick the ones that speak to you the most or ones you understand the best! To make it easier, here’s an edited list of questions that are most relevant for creatives

You DON’T have to be based in the US to submit a comment. In fact, the Office asks for examples of how other countries approach copyright & AI (Q#4), so if you live in places like Britain, Japan, etc. that have made major moves in those areas (for better or worse), leave a comment!

Below are some important questions for actors and VAs in particular. Though voice and likeness aren’t generally protected by copyright law, the Office is interested in hearing how AI may be impacted by state laws involving right of publicity or unfair competition (Q#30, Q#31).

The Copyright Office’s goal is to create the best policy. Be clear, be constructive, and explain the reasoning behind your position. Wherever possible, counter the other side’s arguments. One well supported comment is more influential than 1000 copy paste ones!
