i still have that image as my deviantart profile picture, mainly because i stopped posting on deviantart in 2020 due to the eclipse update lol. it's not surprising to see deviantart has gone even more downhill since then.

i am kinda glad that the steamed hams meme is still relevant. it's not as popular as it was in 2017-2018, but it hasn't completely died either.

anyone remember simpsonwave? i used to be all over that shit in 2017. there's a lot of music i still listen to that i initially discovered through simpsonwave videos. i wonder how many of those videos are still up.

Today I'm thinking about January 20th 2017, I was still settling in to my new school, I had just started sertraline, my head was full of rare Radiohead songs, Vaporwave aesthetics, Simpsonwave edits, FilthyFrank, and of course infinite anxiety, and we were on the brink of the world that we now inhabit. I hated the school I was at, it was cold and damp, every surface had the texture of just being sneezed on, every floor was creaky and the best smell you could find in any room was the bygone B.O. of paranoid teenagers past. The school day began at 8:30 and ended at 17:00, and the bus journey was an hour there and an hour back, relentless and punishing on the already strained young me. All that aside, this was the day of Mr Trump's first inauguration as president of the USA, despite seeing countless 'dank memes' about him saying "build the wall!" and "ChIna!", I knew this wasn't good news for anyone, I had a lot of online friends in America who were writing long desperate paragraph posts on their private accounts talking about how they didn't feel safe in their own homes anymore knowing that their parents had voted for Trump, or talking about how they were growing up LGBTQ+, fearing for their lives under Trump's regime. On the bus journey home that day, I sat at the back with my headphones in, watching the inauguration live, using up pretty much all my data on my phone, but I didn't care, this was history and I felt I had a duty to witness it as it happened. At this time, most of us in the UK weren't worried about him all that much as we all would say "Ah he'll be impeached within 2 years, don't worry", which was very obviously just our egos getting in the way, even if it was just to calm ourselves down. Nevertheless I watched the whole thing from start to finish, even once the bus had dropped me off at the other end of town, and I walked home staring at my phone screen not to miss anything. As Donald Trump gave his first speech as president after being sworn in, it was at that point that I felt genuinely scared, but under the naive hope that he wouldn't be president forever. I was 14 years old and all I had was my own strange solaces, I think once I got in I listened to Kae Tempest's 'Europe is Lost', and then probably got lost in another intense listening session to 'Kid A', I posted a meme on my private account that was a parody of Saving Private Ryan, Saving Private Ian, with the faces on the original poster replaced by Idubbbz, Maxmoefoe, FilthyFrank and H3H3, tagging all my friends as I sort of digital group hug, which although incredibly cringe looking back at it, it came from a place of genuine fear and trying to keep all my friends feeling at least a little bit better than they inevitably did. Today is January 20th 2025, I'm 22. Trump's 2nd inauguration is in only a few ours.

Lofi Girl - Halloween 2024 🎃

음악 취향에 관해 기억 속을 파도 타기 하다가 백만 년만에 Lofi 장르가 떠올라서 가져와 본다. 사실 저 장르가 정확히 뭔지도 모르지만 그냥 좋다. 내 2017년 감성이 떠오르네. Simpsonwave 갬성. 좋았는데. 늘 느끼는데 난 날 정말 미친 듯이 사랑하는 것 같다. 그러다가 자기가 자길 사랑하는 건 뭔가 신기한 개념인 것 같고 말이지. 어쨌든 내가 짱임. 킹왕짱. 지구에서 최고. 아까 화이트 와인 마시고, 2주 사이에 마시다 남겨서(버리기 아까운 양이 남았었음) 냉장고에 넣어둔, 김 다 빠진 상태인 맥주 두 캔을 마시니까 기분이 적당히 좋다. 잔잔히 취한 건 맞다.

Were you ever into the Vaporwave explosion that happened on YouTube and the similar genres it spawned, like SimpsonWave, chill wave, lofi, etc?

As well as the artists some of that work was based on and work/genres that also saw an explosion in Western popularity, like Japanese City pop? Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi comes to mind, for instance, and that one in particular was HUGE.

Hello! And no, I can't say that I was. I love something from most genres, but folk/alternative are the main genres I listen to. I get all my Kpop and Jpop scoop from Coachella lol, or if I like an anime OP...haven't felt compelled to take a deeper dive into those genres just yet.
