The Wicker Man

Probably one of the most daring films in British Horror - “The Wicker Man” puts the reality of occult practices out in the open in broad daylight. A film that is highly regarded and yet grossly overlooked - for any people of Christian Faith who wish to understand, study, and observe the practices of the occult (as to not succumb to such darkness) - this is a film worthy of one’s time.

An absolutely terrifying & firmly-gripped-in-plausibility piece of cinema that is not only considered to be Sir Christopher Lee’s personal favorite of his work (he literally did the film for free and paid Out-of-Pocket to do promotional interviews about the film upon it’s initial release), but is also considered as the best British horror film ever (in addition to being praised by many Occultists & practitioners of Witchcraft from what I have discovered through research). Despite one’s particular spiritual beliefs, there is a certain objective acknowledgement of this film’s intellectual & cinematic prowess (despite the sheer presence of darkness & madness looming within the characters of the film - with exception of Edward Woodward’s Righteous Protagonist).

The film’s writer, Anthony Shaffer, had apparently stated he wanted to make “a literary horror film” that focused more on plot rather than gore - I suppose typical horror fans don’t regard this film as “scary enough”? Perhaps the truly educated film-goer would find the rather important significance of this film (and it’s frightening awareness of such matters).

For what it’s worth I still think the ending was super f**ked up & unGodly (which I suppose was the point of the story, but still, I care about that stuff). I wonder if the world will ever see the film in it’s entirety (a long speech by Sir Christopher Lee in original cut that is still not seen to this day). So gnarly.

On May 27th, 1922, Christopher Lee was born. Now there's a century between us and then. For those of you who've bern following me a lot, or know me personally; you are familiar with my strange relationship with the late Sir. The man who persisted amongst odds, and managed to leave a mark (bite mark, pun intended) on the fabric of Cinema. It's hard to imagine the world of Cinema history without him in it. The performances that gave nightmares to generations after generations, from Rasputin to Saruman to the infamous Count Dracula. He is one of those people who managed to inspire me (and doubtlessly many like me) to keep grinding in the world of Cinema and trying to leave scars of Dracula... I mean, scars of our own. He died in 2015, at the age of 93. I still cannot fathom his demise, and part of me wishes he fights death like so many times before and rises again. Today he would've been a century old, but like his most infamous character, he left so many tales for us to celebrate (and fear) him with. Happy 100th Birthday, Sir Christopher Lee! I still remember you.
