i understand being upset at sram changing sana from muslim to romani, but is it that much different than druck changing even from bipolar to trans?

i (a trans man) would’ve really preferred if they kept david bipolar and had him also be trans

same here. islam is the second most popular religion amongst the romani people, and even if it wasn’t, why can’t she be both?? it is times like these when i realise how simplified skam can get, carried away on focusing too much on sana being muslim or noora being a feminist or isak being gay. especially france 2nd gen (which is one of my fav ogs!!!)

anyways i have so much faith in sram because so far they have been killing it with complex subtext and cinematography and im very excited to meet sana’s remake and im very very very hopeful that we’ll get at least 4 seasons!!! 🫶🫶🫶

edit: just to clarify i’m happy with the decision! this isn’t criticising sram, it’s criticising some very tiny tiny sections of the fan base :)

You dont understand how happy that just made me, I literally giggled and jumped up and down like a little girl.

Ok so it's this show called SKAM, or Shame in norwegian (and I'm deep in it rn). So it's basically this Norwegian teen drama but there's a ton of remakes around the world (so far I've seen Skam France and WTFock which is Skam Belgium, but there's a ton, like Skam Italy and Skam Austin). But the cool thing is when it aired it was in real time and random, so basically if there was a clip of an episode that took place at 5:30 on Monday, it would air at 5:30 on Monday and then at the end of the week they would release the whole episode. But ALSO, they would randomly release texts between the characters AND all the characters had Instagram accounts run by the show that would post randomly. And so basically each season follows a different character and the OG only had 4 seasons but some of the remakes have many many more, and the remakes have to follow the same characters and general storyline of the first four seasons, but then they can do whatever they want and it's really cool.

So basically everyone's favorite season (and the reason I watched) is season 3 because it's about these guys Even and Isak who fall in love (and we love queer romance) and it's actually soooo good. Basically Isak is gay but super in denial and has all this internalized homophobia that goes out the fucking window when he meets Even, a raging pansexual with enough charisma to make a lesbian fall for him istg (ok maybe not a lesbian but at least a straight man I'm sure). But, mild spoiler, Even has bipolar disorder and has this intense manic episode around Isak which fucks everything up and his ex is like super toxic, but then they get over it and have some of the cutest scenes I've ever seen in TV history.

I've really onyl watched season 3 of Skam France and WTFock, and just clips from the other ones, but from what I can tell, Skam France is very similar to the OG, and WTFock is a little darker (like at one point they get beat up on the street by homophobes). But I really like the remakes because the characters aren't exactly the same even though the story is. So like Robbe (Belgian Isak) is super adorable and little tiny baby and like Isak is too but not in the same way. And like Eliott (French Even) has more of a temper and he's a little more "cool guy" and yeah idk.

I also love love love season 5 of Skam France because it's about Arthur who is the love of my life (dear lord he's so hot) and he goes deaf and I think it's a really great story. I also really like television that focuses on a sense (or lack thereof) especailly hearing because you can do some really cool stuff with it. I think the show did some things about it really excellently and some things I would've done differently just to evoke a different or stronger emotional reaction but I still think it was really cool.

Idk I just love it sm it gives me so much dopamine and just like. joy. ahhhhh thanks for letting me rant even if you don't read it I love talking about Skam and my friends are probably so happy I'm talking about it here and not to them anymore haha.

Visual Effects in Only Friends MV part 2

The second song on the Only Friends OST dropped today; So What? by the amazing Ford Arun. Much like the first MV for Only Friends, this one is also has visual frameworks that made me stop and stare.

Just like my first post on this subject, where I talked about the late 90s/early 00s aesthetic of the show as well as controlled voyeurism (aka we only see what they want us to see), these themes show up again here, but a little differently. Unlike the Let's Try MV and the BTS vids which use multiple different effects and transitions as well as framing a lot of the scenes to look like (possibly) 90s camcorder footage, So What? has two visual effects (I think technically three, and I'll point out why I say it this way in a minute).

The first one is the camcorder footage effect. Except that it's even different from the Let's Try MV. While the Let's Try MV has the "play" prompt onscreen and time stamps, it now, to me, feels more like CCTV video than camcorder video. The video effect on So What? is definitely camcorder footage because it is time and date stamped.

Now, the time and date stamp is February 1st, 2020 at 6:06pm for every screen it appears on, which to me cannot be an accurate date/time for any of the scenes. Several of these scenes were from episodes 4, 5, 6, or potentially yet to air. Chuem drops info about Covid in episode one and in February of 2020, we were so early into the pandemic during that time that I'm not sure she would have referred to it so casually, plus with no Covid precautions being taken onscreen it does feel the show is set currently (aka 2023).

Why this date? Why 6:06pm? WHAT IS JOJO TRYING TO SAY HERE? Is this a specific reference to something upcoming on the show? Is this date famous in Thailand for something? Did he just pull a date and time out of a hat?

Onto the second effect: the yellow text on the screen is back! It was heavily used as a visual effect in episode one, and after a discussion with @ignoranaxed I did add it to my Narrative Frameworks post where I'm tracking visual effects on the show. We discussed whether or not this was an homage or reference to SKAM Norway, an extremely popular coming of age teen drama that had an amazingly done queer season (Season three. If nothing else, stop what you're doing and go watch SKAM Norway season three. You can thank me later). The show was so popular it has been remade in Spain, Italy, France, Germany (named Druck), Belgium (named WtFock), the United States and has even been announced as a Korean (BL?) drama for next year.

Is this an actual homage? I came down on the side of maybe. I can't swear it is, but I can't say it isn't. That yellow text on the screen is iconic due to SKAM Norway, and it is used in every single remake of the show (if Korea doesn't use it, I will cry. Also, if Korea doesn't release/air it in the same way, I will cry). Leaving that aside, the yellow text is in Thai, and as yet, I have no idea what it says because my subs only translated the song lyrics, not the onscreen words. If anyone who knows Thai can help me with this, I would love you forever because there's one other thing that shows up in yellow on the screen, and it's this:

WHY AN ELLIPSES, JOJO? WHAT DID IT SAY BEFORE THIS? I NEED TO KNOW WHY IT'S TRAILING OFF. IS IT TO BE CONTINUED? THE NOT KNOWING WILL DRIVE ME INSANE.

Onto the third , but maybe not really an effect: Is Ford photoshopped in here?

I ask this because if he is (and I can't quite tell but I think maybe?) then does that mean this is future footage coming up on the show? Or, like Let's Try MV did with it's extra SandRay footage in the car, was this just shot for the MV? I'm curious to see what people think on this.

Now for the rest of the MV where I just melt down because WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS DRAMA BETWEEN YO AND PLUG, JOJO? YOU CAN'T DO THIS. Also, is this Sand hugging Yo?

Okay okay I'm finally back!! You guys I am so excited to be sat down, finally talking about all the clips we got these past few days! I realise most of my thoughts are going to be redundant because we've gotten so many follow-up clips, as I haven't been able to post in real time, but still I need to word vomit as always!

So the Thursday night party scene! I was actually with my friend when this clip dropped, literally stopped our dinner to watch hahaha (he later said he could never watch the clips in real time, honestly he was so annoyed with the cliff-hanger of the fight hahaha, we'd also literally just caught up on the last few full episodes so he was proper invested and everything).

I first off loved seeing all my girls together! Definitely a fave part of the party scenes is seeing them all dressed up in their own styles together - like they all compliment each other so well even with their own styles. Props to the wardrobe department hahaha

As much as I loved this clip, it was also so bittersweet every time Roko and Nora looked at the other😭😭. Like, yes I understand Nora wanting to keep them a secret until she tells Tina, but still, my poor lover boy he just wants to show her off :(

Nora's "I think she's avoiding me." is very interesting, because as we know with the SKAM universe, everything is from the character's POV, so Nora clearly is seeing Tina as being distant and avoidant - but is she really being like that? Or is Nora just self-projecting because she's worried about Tina finding out before she can tell her?

I personally really do feel Tina knows and is over compensating. She's already canonically a pretty upbeat character, but her over friendliness in this scene is almost unsettling? Along with her being so ready to get drunk (like, yes I love a wild night out too girl, but her enthusiasm....👀👀)

Absolutely loved the dancing montage, but then again, when don't I? I just really feel like SRAM has got it down perfectly, like I felt as though I was there with them - I wanna have a girls night so badly with them all!!

When Nix came over to Roko, I genuinely thought maybe those 2 would fight?? The way Roko shoved him away like damn was he annoyed. Also, love Eva for her immediate jump to action - gossip -> gotta find out more!!

Seeing all 4 boys together was kinda crazy. Threw my head a bit hahaha, I just could never imagine Chris and Jonas, hell even throw William in there, interacting - especially after what went down last season! But seriously, it was interesting to see them all talking, and as we now know, discussing a game plan of sorts.

So, the fight scene. Now, as I said, my thoughts on this scene have changed as we got our most recent clips. I know I made a post on here a while back about it being difficult to see Roko be so violent, because all we'd seen so far was him being the sweetest to Nora - but that's exactly why I love SRAM so much! They've taken William's character and created such a complex version, to the point that yes, even though I've seen this exact scenario play out several times, I still didn't think Roko was going to smash the bottle because of how he had previously been portrayed to us through Nora's viewpoint!

Knowing what we know now, from the follow-up clips, we know that yes, not only was this in self-defence, which we already knew, but also just how shitty those guys are that tried to beat the boys up. So, all in all, although this wasn't maybe my first initial reaction - hell yeah Roko - do it again my boy!!

Okay, before we move onto Sunday's clip, I just wanted to mention that although I am loving SRAM, and it's been amazing following along in real time, I really wish they were able to up their texting game a bit. I actually feel like they're doing great at the social media posts and stories, it's just the texting that for me is falling a bit short. Because in my opinion, I feel like Roko absolutely would have been trying to get in touch with Nora these last couple of days. Like, what do you mean mister lover-boy 3000 just doesn't check in with his girlfriend (yes I'm calling it, Nora, it's endgame for you two) from Thursday to Sunday??

Now for the gut-wrenching Sunday scene. It always upsets me, because as we know, from here on out we don't really get a fully happy scene of them for a couple weeks now :((

The way Nora avoided his kiss and he immediately backed up :((

I really liked how with SRAM, they made the discussion more on Roko believing the guys deserved the violence, and Nora not thinking they did (despite her not actually knowing the full story), versus in the OG, where the overall discussion is about violence and the two not really agreeing on their views.

"I'm willing to do anything for the people I care about. If anyone so much as lays a finger on you, I'll be there."

This says just so so much about Roko. He's already opened up to Nora about him not wanting to disappoint those around him, and with his home life, we already know that Nix truly is a brother to him - so of course he's going to defend him! Especially with earlier this season, when he wasn't there for him before, he probably wants to make up for that. Protective Roko <333

Also, I saw on Twitter someone clarify that the second sentence is a bit of a mis-translation? I'll put a screenshot below of the tweet, but if you have Twitter I really recommend this person's thread! As we know with what's coming up, I'm really interested in Roko's reaction to the Sven situation. Because, as we just saw, he is extremely protective of those he cares about and loves!

And we got our forehead kiss - but at what cost?!?! :((

Roko's immediate acceptance of Nora needing space...I fear she just confirmed his fears of being abandoned with Nora not being fully invested. He's voiced it before, the scene in her bedroom when he says it feels like she's not all in for their relationship, and while yes I understand her holding back because of guilt with Tina (and also her own personal struggles with realising she DOES want to date someone like Roko) I still can fully understand how Roko is starting to get fed up with the back and fourth.

Ending the scene on Nora tearing up and saying "How do I always end up the bad guy?" really shows just how torn up she is about this whole relationship, I feel. You can tell she really, truly does want to be with Roko, but she's still struggling with coming to terms that she could want to date someone like him (someone who she's detested before) so of course she's getting in her head about the commitment as well as the additional note of going behind Tina's back.

Emotionally Nora is juggling a lot of feelings about many different things, and so when she does put that boundary out there of needing time and space, she doesn't see it as rejecting him, just her own personal needs. So of course she's going to wonder why she's framed as the bad guy always putting a stop to them.

I really have loved how sure Roko has been of being with Nora, wanting her, and wishing he could proudly show her off - so, like, Nora, could you please catch up babes? 😭😭

I'll talk about the clip we got on Monday in a separate post because ahhh my girls!! But yeah, glad I'm settled back in and so ready to give my thoughts in real time now!! I've honestly missed writing on here so much this past week, it really has become a lovely outlet to talk about all things SRAM!!

Even though I feel so overwhelmed and emotional, I am glad I am living in this moment now, waiting for the new season and looking forward to see what happens next. It feels so monumental that we are all going crazy over the same things all over the world together.

Skam was my previous obsession and I only found it after it was long over and I was always mourning I never got to experience the daily clips and I found out the texts and insta posts much later than that. so I feel so grateful that I got to experience all of this and we get a proper 🤞 ending.

As for my French study in general, since I first learned French in college, I just listened to the college classes well and tried to do my homework hard. However, compared to my college classmates, I started learning French much later, so I had to study Delf separately during vacations and make a lot of effort to become familiar with French on my own.

word

-When memorizing a word, you must read the example sentence at the same time.

-Select one vocabulary list and memorize it all properly.

grammar

-It’s similar to studying words. You should choose one grammar book and memorize it all to the end. Instead of doing this and that, it is better to choose one book and do it properly.

-The recommended book is <grammaire progressive du francais-intermediaire>

reading

-When reading a text, I tried to improve my ability to interpret the sentence in its overall context rather than focusing on each word. If there is a sentence that you cannot interpret at all, try analyzing the sentence structure first.

-It is good to read French novels to practice understanding the context of the text. I chose an easy novel like ‘Little Nicola’ and read it little by little. Even if there were sentences I didn't understand, I tried to infer them from the overall content of the novel.

Listening

-Listening was the most difficult part of studying French. To be honest, I still find it difficult to listen to and understand French.

-The important thing is to keep listening to French as a habit. The apps I recommend are ‘TV5MONDEplus’, ‘RFI’, and ‘Le francais facile’.

-It's good to choose one French drama or movie and watch it over and over again. I selected a specific episode of the ‘Skam France’ series and watched it over and over again.

speaking

-I looked up YouTube videos on French pronunciation and tried to follow them.

-When preparing for Delf, it is difficult to do it alone. In Korea, there is a study service where you can take classes by speaking with a French person over the phone, but I'm not sure what kind of service there is in other countries.

writing

-Up to A2, I just wrote down all the sample answers and memorized them all. However, starting from B1, this method does not work. In the end, it seems that it is possible to get a good score in writing only by consistently studying vocabulary and grammar from the B1 level.

-B1 Writing is difficult to study in a short period of time, so I practiced writing down one expected problem every day. Then I looked at the answer again and analyzed the incorrect sentences.
