OK. So I thought of some ideas for Jamil. (Slightly bits of my take but ye):

List:

Snake tail

Cobra hood with eyes

black scalera eyes

eyes on the tail too

crimson or ruby and black scales

four to six arms

Masks

ooze starts from the bottom of the thighs

Claws? Claws.

Does he deserve some golden accessories? I believe so.

Fangs and snek tongue because blep

The snake details are definitely something I'm gonna lean into for Jamil - I mean, it's in his last name. I gotta use that lol. I may try to make him kinda like a naga, but I can't make any promises since my edits are made by me using whatever public domain images I can find to create textures and details - so I may have difficulty finding the right pieces of the puzzle if that makes sense lol.

Eyes on the cobra hood like eyespots that some animals have to look bigger and scarier would be cool! I could add spiral patterns to all of his eyes too, as a reference to his hypnosis ability! And the fangs and tongue is a MUST HAVE lol - he literally does the blep in multiple of his cards!

I hadn't thought of giving himself masks - that's a genius idea! Maybe I could make the masks silver or bronze to show how he has to mask his abilities due to the position he's in with Kalim. Then, I can add gold accessories and details to his scales and body to show that, behind the mask, Jamil is actually a brilliant individual who is capable of more than he shows!

And making other scales Ruby red and a darker crimson (maybe with some kinda gemstone texturing if I can manage it) could link his design a bit more with Kalim's, while including darker details in order to also connect with his Overblot!

If I give him extra arms, maybe I should make him hold something like one of those wooden things with strings used to control puppets! Or a pendulum thing that some people use for hypnosis - again as a reference to how he can control people! And claws are really cool - I could probably draw them on and overlay a texture to make them look cooler!

Your ideas are always amazing! I'll have to start working on Jamil's edit once I have the energy to do so lol

hello it is time for a VERY niche post. join me for... SHL characters as SNAKES!!!!! i tried to find snakes that naturally occur in china or near china, as a terrible added parameter—there's a TON of snakes in china, but i just don't know many so it's terrible bc it added a lot of work for me lol. but i've learned things! and found some cool snakes! so! let's go. pictures of snakes ahead, if that's not your thing, feel free to peace out.

Wen Kexing - Sinomicrurus macclellandi a coral snake! just a nice boy you know? just a nice, extremely venemous boy with dramatic red coloration. shamless plug for my fic where wkx turns into This Snake.

Zhou Zishu - Bungarus multicinctus look at this lovely unassuming snake. got some goth-y drama but overall not too bad, right? one of the most venomous land snakes in the world 😌 (also. he and wkx match but like in a complimentary way.)

Zhang Chengling - Pareas margaritophorus the first thing wikipedia says about this snake is that it is small and harmless. for the first time so far, i am not trying to mislead you. just a little snek boi!!!!!! cute!!!!!! I Want To Hold And Protect Him

Gu Xiang - Fowlea piscator look i'm gonna be honest. there are not a lot of snakes that are even REMOTELY purple but this one has a little purple whip tongue! also, not venemous but (if it's anything like water snakes in the US) kind of an asshole. apparently pretends to be a cobra. look at her go.

Cao Weining - Coelognathus radiatus this snake has no thoughts in its head. look at it. i don't mean as a species i mean This One. That's cwn. just sitting there doing a blep. no venom, apparently a defensive sort of dude. cool colors tho!

Luo Fumeng - Calliophis bivirgatus a different kind of coral snake! i've gone a bit further outside of china for this one but LOOK at how gorgeous it is. how could i not let lfm be this glamorous. also i like the idea that she's a different genus of snake than wkx but still a (venemous) coral snake.

Liu Qianqiao - Elaphe taeniura gonna be honest here, the common name of this snake in english is the beauty snake (or ratsnake), so i didn't think too much farther. there's a ton of different color morphs of it. look at it, the elegance! she's beauty she's grace she'll constrict you (if you are a small mammal)!

Xie Wang - Bungarus fasciatus this is a different krait! zzs has MANY bands, xw just has bands. a little brighter colored and more extra than zzs, sliiiightly less deadly, still can very definitely kill you. LOOK at that warning coloration. if i was to pick two characters to DEFINITELY have warning coloration, it WOULD be wkx and xw.

Du Pusa - Euprepiophis mandarinus this is NOT my best work, but i just thought this snake was really pretty and so i was determined to include it somehow. hence: dps. they are ~secretive~ apparently. also. again. Look At It

Ye Baiyi - Python bivittatus BIG BOY!!!! ALMOST THE BIGGEST BOY!!!!! does occur in white color morphs in captivity (and like, i guess presumably in the wild? at one point? but i have to imagine that's like. not so much a thing anymore.) also, did i pick the picture that looks the most like a cryptid? of course i did, it's yby. he doesn't want his picture taken. he doesn't want you to know he exists even. leave him alone. where he belongs in his natural habitat.

Han Ying - Lycodon septentrionalis a shiny pretty boy. a shiny pretty boy who looks very much like a many-banded krait, in fact. however, they're not venemous. hy just looks like zzs. again: LOOK AT THIS GOOD SNEK.

Jing Beiyuan - Ahaetulla prasina several things here. one, this is an elegant but strange boy (i don't think this shows just how weird this guy's nose looks. it's like someone took a snake's nose and used pliers to stretch it out all pointy). two, FASHION!!! look at those pattens!!!!! a striking example. and three, it looks kind of like wu xi's snakeclet

Wu Xi - Naja atra he's a cobra. i think this speaks for itself.

Some split off with him- a lot, surprisingly, were people he rescued from rough situations, and offered them to either go free, or join him for protection and food (but they’d have to help run the casino lol)

Remus has never had any qualms about appearing in his brother’s room, be it by actually knocking or by suddenly dropping down from the ceiling. This time especially he can’t wait a single second longer to share the good news; never mind that it’s already 1 in the morning.

He finds Roman still awake when he unceremoniously steps out from his wardrobe, having popped up inside it. His brother is sitting at his desk, concentrating hard on a drawing. Remus doesn’t feel the least bit bad about interrupting him by jumping up to sit on the desk, shaking it as he does.

“Remus,” Roman complains, his pen having strayed and marked the paper with an ugly line. “Must you interrupt me so rudely?”

“I have something to tell you!” Remus grinned, his teeth glinting in the low light.

Roman sighed, knowing he would get no more work done, and leaned back in his chair. His back ached from having bent over his desk for so long.

“Go on then.”

“Okay so I was spending the evening with our resident snek, getting down and dirty with those six arms and split tongue of his-”

“Remus!”

“You’re just jealous that you’re not getting six hands and two D’s,” Remus said in a singsong voice. “Anyway, we were cuddling - he’s such a big cuddler, did you know that? It’s absolutely adorable. Such a danger noodle. And he bleps! So we were cuddling and talking about fun ways to take down the government should Tommy-boy ever want to start a revolution, when suddenly he presented me with this!”

Remus conjured up a gorgeous knife, with a black handle shaped like a twisting tentacle and a rainbow blade with a jagged edge.

Roman suddenly looks concerned, as he takes in the sharpness of the knife.“He didn’t stab you, did he?”

“What? No! Not this time at least.”

“This time?!” Roman repeated, looking up to meet Remus’ eyes.

“Never mind that, don’t you know what this is?” Remus asks, waving the knife in Roman’s face.

“A knife?”

“No- well, yes, but not just that!”

“Remus, please just say what’s so special about that knife, and stop waving it in my face.”

“It’s an engagement knife. Deceit proposed.”

“What in the seven realms are engagement knives? Wait, Deceit proposed? You’re engaged! Ohmygod my demented brother got engaged before me, what has the world come to-”

“Oh yeah, Dee wanted me to tell you that marriage is a social construct and that we’re going to get hitched in secret, but you’re welcome to plan a wedding that we won’t show up for.”

“Won’t show up to! Remus, I’m going to have words with your fiancé. You’re my only brother and I’m going to plan you an amazing wedding no matter what.”

Remus laughs. He would love to see Remus and Deceit argue about the importance of marriages and weddings in the morning, but for now, he was going to return to his sleeping fiancé. The word makes him feel warm all over, like a slab of meat roasting in an oven.

His smile is wide enough to threaten to split his face open. He has a fiancé.

he CAN smell with his nose, but if he’s really really trying he’ll flick his snek tongue out. he HAS accidentally licked someone before bc he misjudged how close he was to them. (it was creaity. he licked his nose and they were both like WTFFFFFFFFF)

because he is a snek boi, he likes to sleep in warm places. progic has heat lamps set up all over the house, but if there’s a good patch of sunlight he’ll nap there, too, curling up in a little ball. he often sleeps with his tongue poking out - not intentionally, but he’ll fall asleep and then as he sleeps his tongue will poke out and bc he’s asleep he won’t pull it back in and he just bleps in his sleep. it’s exactly as adorable as you think it is.
