I like that there is clearly care shared between Soyo and Mutsumi but the CRYCHIC breakup happened just as that glue was starting to solidify, so you end up in this weird limbo where there's clearly this chemistry between the two but also nothing that ties them together anymore, not made any easier by Mutsumi giving the very wrong idea with her "I've never had fun in this band" (read: "I am simply not good enough for you all and it makes every fiber of my being hurt") and Soyo's tunnel vision desperation about wanting to bring back CRYCHIC to go back to those incredible days only to get shot down over and over by Mutsumi.

Soyo's the kind of person that doesn't have much of an issue discarding people not in her Affection Sphere, let's call it, but dies by her loyalty for those within, so you can tell she also really aches whenever Mutsumi shoots her down, but she keeps trying, until other factors just leave her bitter and forlorn, so much so that, when Mutsumi gifts her the cucumbers as a congratulatory gift, Soyo can't see it in any other way than some sort of mockery in her headspace then, as if rubbing it in that she's finally in a band, yay! Have fun without me, great playing btw, leading to her hostile response to Mutsumi.

Of course, she's also royally pissed off when Mutsumi is in fact playing in Ave Mujica later. Sincerely furious and bitter.

But, the moment Mutsumi is at her lowest, and Mortis is, too, at her lowest, having an outright nervous breakdown, it's Soyo that basically strongarms her way in there and spends three whole days caring for her, and you can tell she's absolutely fucking done with this whole thing, BUT, she does not in the slightest have it in her to not do something for Mutsumi in her time of need.

"Eh? I'm not even that close to Mutsumi" she said, yeah undeniably, but that doesn't mean you don't hold enough raw affection for her, which could or could not be entirely tied to "memories of CRYCHIC", to camp three days in that fucked up household making sure she's ok. And I would lean towards the latter anyhow because later it's even about reforming CRYCHIC or not, Mortis was having another terrible one and Soyo's response is to sigh, roll her eyes at 500 kilometers per hour internally, grab her stuff, grab Mortis, and walk her home, fully understanding that's not necessarily Mutsumi by now but that's not stopping her.

ANNABETH CHASE- Astronomy

at first she thought you were talking about astrology and wasn't all that interested, but then she saw the massive amount of books you had on the stars and understood

dare i say she takes you on stargazing dates where you just point out all the constellations and all the stars we'll never see

has watched about 8 space documentaries in one week, and still isn't tired of it

also ! when ever she's drafting up home designs, she ALWAYS puts a room with a glass ceiling or balcony so you can put your telescope there

she swears it's just for the visuals but she not very good at hiding it(i love you sappy annabeth chase <9)

bought you one of those little star projectors when you guys moved into New Rome !

you guys also made paper lanterns of all the planets + pluto and hung them up on the ceiling since you rarely get to go out much one you go to college

speaking of pluto.. you guys didn't speak for three days over an argument over the basis of it being a planet or not. annabeth refuses to say it is because scientifically it's not, but you say it is because "emotionally it's a planet to me !" (real conversation i've had btw)

do not tag as ship, everything is platonic. I will block anyone who tags this as a ship.

Stan stared at the ceiling of his bedroom.

I should be working on the portal.

He’d stopped early because he’d realized that he forgot to put Dipper and Mabel to bed, and once they were in bed, he’d found himself unable to go back to the basement, scared they’d follow.

So he decided to wait a few minutes.

Which had turned into a few hours. 

Which had turned into most of the night.

Stan wasn’t sure how long it had been, all he knew was the ceiling and the far-away feeling he associated with utter uselessness. He could do nothing in this state, and he knew it. Getting out of bed just for the portal would never work.

There was a knock on his door.

Stan opened his eyes. He didn’t remember closing them. He sat up on his bed, swinging his legs over the side and slowly stood up, his back and neck aching. Slowly, very slowly, he shuffled to the door and cracked it open, glancing down at the floor just outside his door.

Mabel stood there, eyes bright despite the tear streaks on her cheeks, a stuffed animal and a small soft blanket clutched in her hands.

“Mabel?”

“I’m sleeping here,” she said firmly, pushing the door open and padding across the room in her socks. Stan turned around slowly, still confused. Dipper and Mabel had only been here three weeks and nothing like this had happened before.

“Mabel?” he asked again.

“I won’t leave, Grunkle Stan,” she said, tossing her animal and her blanket onto Stan’s bed and climbing up onto it. “I had a bad dream, and you’re our summer caretaker. So you have to cuddle me.”

Stan simply stared at her. Then he closed his bedroom door and shuffled back to his bed, realizing that he wanted nothing more than to cuddle Mabel and go to sleep.

He climbed up beside her.

“Go ahead, tell me to leave. I won’t do it,” Mabel said stubbornly, but her lower lip trembled, betraying her scared sadness. Stan realized that her coming to him, asking for cuddles was basically the ultimate show of trust.

And she was braced for him to refuse.

“I’m not gonna tell ya to leave,” he said gruffly, unsure of how to handle the outright affection. “You can stay here if ya want to.”

He lay down on his pillows.

“Oh. Yay!” Mabel cheered quietly, and then lay down next to Stan on her side, facing him. 

There was a moment of silence. Stan stared at the ceiling and then closed his eyes again, sighing. Mabel fidgeted with the edge of her blanket as though debating something in her head.

“Grunkle Stan, is it okay if I tell you about my bad dream?” she asked softly a moment later, her voice hesitant and still quite upset.

Stan decided there wasn’t really any problem with this.

“Of course, Mabel,” he answered quietly, his rough voice still louder than he meant it to be. He turned his head and focused his attention on her. Mabel smiled, her eyes lighting up a little despite the tears.

“I got really sad,” she whispered, scooting closer so that he could hear her. “Because I had a bad dream about Mom and Dad.”

Stan’s stomach dropped. He’d known why the twins were there from the start. He’d hoped they didn’t know quite yet.

“Dipper doesn’t think I know about everything, but I do,” Mabel whispered. “I know more than he does. But I have to keep him as happy as I can.”

Stan swallowed as he rolled onto his side, facing Mabel.

“Mabel, do you want to go downstairs?” he asked softly.

Mabel lifted her head. “Why?”

“Because I think it’d be cozier in the armchair, and I need a drink,” Stan said, voice rough as he rubbed his eyes. “C’mon.”

He stood up and shuffled back over to the door, Mabel following close behind with her stuffy and her blanket trailing on the floor. She really was so small. She was very tired, but clearly determined not to fall asleep.

Halfway down the stairs, when she tripped, Stan caught her and simply carried her the rest of the way. He tried to ignore the warmth swelling in his chest when her small hand caught ahold of and fisted in his shirt.

Mabel yawned, but it was small and cute, like a kitten. She nuzzled his chest a little, clearly comfortable in his arms. He liked the feeling of her nestled there. It was protective, like he could keep her safe. He sat down in the armchair and adjusted her so she was in his lap, curled up and had her head leaned against his chest, cuddled in the crook of his arm. She snuggled herself against his soft belly, making herself more comfortable.

Stan didn’t mind. He leaned back in his chair, arms around Mabel protectively. It was a nice feeling, her trust. He just had to make sure he didn’t break it or mess something up. Both of Mabel’s hands were fisted in his shirt now.

“I’m really sad about my parents cuz they’re so mean to each other,” Mabel said sleepily. “And Dipper sees it a lot. I’m really sad for him because he gets anxious a lot, especially when our parents aren’t getting along. I try to distract him. Sometimes it works.”

She yawned again. Stan smiled down at her.

“I don’t wanna go back to sleep,” she murmured against Stan’s chest. Stan gently lifted one hand and ran it through her hair very gently, over and over again.

“It’s alright,” he said softly. “I’ll keep those nightmares away for ya.”

Mabel giggled sleepily and snuggled against him more contentedly.

Stan chuckled. “You’re a sweet lil’ pumpkin, ain’tcha?” he asked softly, still gently petting her hair. Mabel nodded.

“I’ma pumpkin,” she murmured, her words slurring together a little bit since she was so tired. She cuddled against him again and Stan’s heart positively melted at the trust and affection she was showing him.

“Yeah, you’re a Pumpkin, alright,” he said softly in reply, kissing the top of her head almost instinctually. It seemed the right thing to do.

Normally he would be angry at himself for being such a soft, sappy old man, but he found that he really didn’t care. He liked holding Mabel. This was nice. It had been a long day. He’d been yelled at by several people, and yelled at them back. He’d given tours and answered frustrating questions while keeping his showman persona in line. He’d taken care of the kids even though Mabel had gotten glitter all over everything in the kitchen and Dipper had tried to jump onto the pine tree off the roof with the excuse that “Wendy did it last week,” which Stan was not buying.

It had been a long hard day. He’d cried in the basement while he was down there for the first bit, his chest aching while he missed his twin, working furiously through his tears, angry at himself for his weakness.

But now he felt anything but weak. He felt stronger than he ever had, even though he was being soft and holding his niece like she was the most precious thing in the world. Maybe she was.

Maybe she was the most precious thing in the world. What was wrong with that? Stan couldn’t see anything wrong with that logic.

He started swaying gently from side to side, gently trying to coax Mabel to sleep. She fisted her hands tighter in his shirt and made a small noise of frustration as she fought to keep her eyes open.

“Shh,” Stan whispered. “I’ve got you, Pumpkin. Just sleep now, okay? You need sleep so you can play with your brother in the morning.”

“I wannnn…play with Dipper,” Mabel murmured, her smile becoming softer on her face, still trying to keep her eyes open.

“Yeah. That’s tomorrow morning,” Stan whispered softly, holding her close and kissing the top of her head again. His heart swelled again, and he wondered what else he’d been missing by not paying these kids as much attention as he should’ve.

Maybe…Maybe if he paid them a little more attention, ruffled their hair a bit more, smiled at them…hugged them…maybe Mabel would come to him again. And maybe Dipper would come to him too. Maybe Dipper could trust him.

That thought made him feel a sudden wholeness that he realized he’d never quite had and he suddenly felt the urge to keep Mabel cuddled close to him all night just because he could protect her and keep her away from every bad thing in the world that way.

She was quickly dropping off to sleep, no matter how hard she fought it. She would doze off for a few minutes and then jerk slightly, opening her eyes and Stan would shush her and reassure her again till her eyelids were drooping again, and then until she’d blinked them shut yet again.

Stan found himself smiling fondly at her, wondering at how she could sleep in his arms, how innocent she was.

Stan thought about himself and wondered if even at twelve he would have been able to fall asleep in anyone’s arms except for Ford’s or his Ma’s. He decided that no, he couldn’t. He had one memory of his father being soft with him. One.

It was a late night and then-six-year-old Stan was sitting outside his and Ford’s room, he couldn’t remember why. Filbrick had come down the hallway and simply picked Stan up in his arms and carried him downstairs. He’d shown Stan how he locked up the shop, keeping one arm around his son, holding Stan’s small frame braced on his hip like his Ma would whenever one of them wanted affection while she was making dinner.

Stan cherished that memory.

He wished he had more like it.

No matter, he was going to give Dipper and Mabel so many memories it’d make up for his own longing. He’d fulfill their needs where his weren’t met.

He didn’t care how many nights he’d spend cuddling the twins. All he knew now was that he wanted to.

And he would make sure that nobody hurt them. Ever. Because if there was one terribly evil thing someone could do, it was to hurt a child.

Stan kissed the top of Mabel’s head yet again, making sure to be gentle so she wouldn’t stir. She didn’t, now fully asleep, a small smile on her face.

“I love you, Pumpkin,” he whispered, feeling that it was entirely true. For all her chaos and glorious, brash personality, and her general ability to trip over things, get glitter on things, or break stuff, Stan loved her.

She felt small in his arms as he slowly stood up, keeping her burrowed against him so that she wouldn’t wake up, and slowly and quietly walking over to the stairs. She was so small. And she trusted so easily. The world hadn’t had a chance to break her, and Stan would kill himself rather than let something happen to her.

It was completely peaceful as he settled in his bed and nestled Mabel against him beneath the covers, tucking her blanket near her face and gently pushing her stuffed animal into her hands which grabbed it and cuddled it immediately. She stirred just slightly and then turned towards Stan as if seeking his warmth. The feeling made him feel even warmer, his chest almost aching with affection.

His father would’ve hated him for this. But Stan no longer cared.

He let himself bask in the feeling, holding Mabel close as she shifted against him and then quieted down, her breathing evening out and her heartbeat keeping a steady pace, just a bit faster than his own.

He suddenly missed Ford so much that it hurt. And Stan suddenly wished the same fate for his brother–he wished Ford could hold Mabel like this and feel the warmth and innocence that seemed to simply pour out of her and make him feel whole again.

The simple act of trusting herself to him was so precious to him that Stan suddenly vowed he would never betray Mabel’s fundamental physical trust. If she wanted hugs, she’d get hugs. If she wanted cuddles, she’d get cuddles. She’d never be rejected or hurt by him.

He’d tell her so in the morning. He’d likely tell Dipper too, try to have a conversation with the boy. He wasn’t very good at that–having conversations, but he felt it might be a good place to start.

“Goodnight, Mabel,” he whispered, pressing another kiss to the top of her head. He felt her sigh in her sleep, relaxing against him. Stan sighed as well, keeping his arms wrapped protectively around her.

He closed his eyes, reassuring himself with the feeling of her small body inflating and deflating with breaths beneath his arm. She was alive. She was safe.

He would keep her safe.

Ooohhh boy, did this take too long (you'll understand in a sec, just keep reading 😂)

So, this informational dump was, supposed, to be written like three hours ago, BUT! Life likes to make me go on random quests, and so I went to make some type of poppy seed cake, and let me tell you, it is looking amazing. Though, that's not why I'm creating this post; this post is about the legendary chapter four, and the ones to come after it.

Chapter four has been written! Yay me!🥳 Literally finished it, those three hours ago, and who would have thought that cutting it up a bit would help on that front😂

The only reason I did that, was because the chapter would be waaaay too long, and let me explain just how😂

Chapter five, as is of now, shall be, basically, five chapters in one; what I mean by that is, five routes will be combined into one chapter, going alongside each other (which route you pick at the end of chapter four will be the one you play in chapter five). Now, one route will span for the entirety of chapter five, and so, if I was to do that in chapter four, that mothafucka wood be waaaaaay too long. Nothing wrong with that, but, I am a man of my word, and I am sticking to my concept for "short" chapters.

That being said, tomorrow, I'll start writing chapter five. Today, I'll focus a bit on the code learning side of things, so everything can be made to run as smoothly as possible, once the story releases.

Will I make it even harder for me in the future? Yes! Will it be better though? Absolutely! But, will chapter four come out with the release of the prologue and first three chapters? To be honest, it's not looking like it folks😔

The only way chapter four comes out with the prologue and first three chapters, is if I manage to start writing chapter six this month; which, may be possible? That will entirely depend on how long it takes me to write chapter five; it's as simple as that.

And so, another conclusion to another biblically long post of mine; I appreciate anyone who decided to read the whole thing, for it is a lot 😂

CELEBRATE MARRIAGE EQUALITY (AND KEY'S SUPER DIGNIFIED MELTDOWN) WITH KRISTSINGTO

[Okay. Okay. I'm somewhat more emotionally collected now having had a few hours to compose myself. How cute I am when I lie.]

Krist and Singto dedicated a segment in PeBaCa’s concert to celebrating Thailand’s legalization of marriage equality on January 23rd, 2025. Complete with proposal!

[Yes, that's Krist-as-Himself proposing to Singto-as-Himself. No, I'm not the same person I was this morning, and as a matter of fact, I wave goodbye to that Key with nothing but fondness in my heart. I am now Feral Swamp Creature Key who subsists only off rainbows or bloodshed depending on my mood. Thank you for the wellness check.]

In the introduction to their segment, Krist and Singto acted out a reimagined scene from "Love of Siam" (2007), a pinnacle of queer Thai cinema that paved the way for "SOTUS" (2016) to even exist almost ten years afterward, so for KristSingto to show their respect to it was a beautiful way to start things off.

It should be mentioned that from my passing familiarity with "Love of Siam," KristSingto went with something a touch more melodramatic. Considering how eager they always are to volunteer for the breakup songs and the angry exes series, they're basically theatre kids disguised as economics majors, so it's totally up their alley to take creative liberties with the dialogue and tone.

Of course, I'm also convinced that Krist just wanted an excuse to show off that he can cry on command.

Like, no one dies at the end of "Love of Siam," but Krist apparently decided he needed to for The Drama.

[Yes, your deductive reasoning looking at these two images is correct. Krist did have a heart attack because his boyfriend Singto broke up with him. He did indeed have the spotlight change to red to symbolize his very sad onstage death. I am never, ever exaggerating my love for this ridiculous human, y'all. I would punch a planet into the sun itself for Kit Krist Middle Name Perawat Sangpotirat.]

Granted, this is the same khuujin who put Krist's actual car accident into their meta series about their Extremely Platonic relationship (airing next month). This is very on-brand for them.

Oh, so then they jump into The Future, and yay, Marriage Equality is Legalized Now!

(Are we all fully understanding at this point why I've spent years so fixated on trying to show other interfans that they've been completely brainwashed and fooled by slander of my beloved biological son Krist? Look at that guy in the video who probably planned and staged the whole performance like he always does wearing a THOUSAND RAINBOW RIBBONS UNDER A RAINBOW DECKED IN RAINBOWS. At this point, Krist could marry Singto in a church and there would be three thousand English-speaking interfans commenting on the video going, "Okay, look, I admit he's committed to the bit, but I'm still not convinced." But that's why we block people. <3)

Ooh, fun tidbit for the road: see that place in the background swathed in all the rainbows? That's the area between Siam Center and Siam Paragon, two shopping malls adjacent to Siam Station. "Cutie Pie" (2022) also included this spot in its final scene along with a message of support for marriage equality:

The other fun bit is that that area is considered to be the center of Bangkok, so I've been told that using it as the backdrop for content supporting marriage equality is fairly symbolic.

KEY HAS A LOT OF EMOTIONS INSTEAD OF GOING TO SLEEP

This was going to be more structured but I'm sleepy and emotional and probably going to cry again so let's jump to the sloppy weeping in text.

This performance feels to me like KristSingto have come full circle from their SOTUS era while raising the standard for their next lap together.

Because in many ways, KristSingto will always be associated with beginnings. Their legacy is “SOTUS,” which wasn’t the first Thai BL but the first to gain widespread recognition and signal to the people with money that they could make more money by endorsing more series like it.

[If you've ever complained about the temperature and lack of tongue-inclusion during kiss scenes in early series, know that we have footage of a different KongArt kiss that had to be cut because it got too involved for what TV was allowed to show in 2016. Not just for queer couples. Anyone. It was a big deal that their lips were moving at all.]

They were also the first established khuujin at GMMTV—with all the pros and cons and psychological challenges that have come with it. They celebrated the establishment of the Peraya fanclub on April 19th, 2017 by exchanging rings given to them by their fans.

[Please explain to me how I'm meant to look at any of this and think Krist hasn't been nursing a crush on Singto since his past life. Look at his face. Look at it.]

They were also the first male-male pair to win KAZZ’s Best Couple Award in 2017, then they proceeded to win it three consecutive more times.

And finally, if KristSingto weren’t the first to have an implied same-sex engagement scene in Kongphob and Arthit’s “Our Skyy” episode from 2018, they were among the first.

There are only so many firsts one can have in any given industry, and I think it's time KristSingto got to enjoy some of the established comforts available to them now considering how much trauma they both went through to carve the path for themselves and others.

Because the thing is, a lot of the really risqué, envelope-pushing, flagrantly queer series we’ve gotten in the years since 2016 were made partially thanks to these two. GMMTV really didn’t seem to want to give KristSingto anything but money-sucking top spender events and concerts because they had little to no faith in BL making substantial money. So they kept Krist doing lakorn series and they, in my opinion, cast Singto aside and let him do whatever he wanted because colorism. By the time GMMTV offered KristSingto “Be My Favorite” presumably in early-mid 2021, Singto was already looking for other opportunities outside the company, which left Krist to create the masterpiece BMF would become with a temporary partner.

So, see, one of the cons of KristSingto's path has been that because they were first, nothing has ever been certain for them, and almost everything has been a struggle until now rather than a guarantee. They were hit with widespread condescension as BL actors when "SOTUS" aired, then split up for profit, brought back together for cash-only events, and never got the second series they were asking for all along. Krist said it himself recently: their last full BL series together was "SOTUS S" which aired in 2017, so their fans have been waiting to see another series from them for seven years.

And yet, in all that time, even when Singto left to find different opportunities, they never gave up on each other or left each other behind. They stayed friends, part of the same group, and their friendship grew and matured. They didn't have to talk about work anymore, so they didn't.

Since they're a year apart, they'd never been equals as students, and at work they'd been colleagues. But when Singto left GMMTV, they became adults who stayed at each other's side by choice. And now that he's back, they're more settled than they were before, and, I think, happier for the years of separation from work stress and the constant spotlights on their relationship.

KristSingto were GMMTV’s faithless gamble, surprise success, and subsequent experiment, and only now are they being allowed relative security and opportunities they should have had all along.

A closer look at...

Okay, so chances are you remember studying negative spaces in middle school art class. As a refresher: "negative spaces" are the blank spaces around and between the subjects of a composition (i.e. the "positive spaces"). It's also likely that you drew a chair one time using this technique and didn't think about it again, but what if I told you that you can apply it to writing, too? (Yeah, I AM still chasing the glorious high of getting an A+ in middle school art class, and no, I haven't come up with a way to make fingerpainting relevant to writing yet. But I will, TRUST.)

Literally how?

By making what isn't said and shown have meaning! Cool, right? See, in the same way that the empty areas around the chair are what make it look like a chair, the empty areas around that conversation/description/explanation are what will make the subtext visible. Or, you know, detectable, since there's no visibility involved in subtext. Or text, for that matter. Huh. ANYWAY—

But I love talking. Doesn't saying stuff say more stuff? Don't I get more stuff per stuff?

You'd think so, but nope! Remember that "less is more" thing your mom used to say so you'd shut up about dinosaur nostril circumferences on the car ride to school? Yeah, it's that. Basically. What we mean by it in the context of writing is that you're adding too much static (extra noise) to your signal, so now we can't hear the song at all. The "song" here is what you're trying to get across, the "signal" is the way you've chosen to do it, and the "static" is that stupid scene they tack on at the end of every movie ever where they overexplain the plot for your uncle who fell asleep half an hour ago. But we are not catering to your uncle. It's good practice to assume that your audience has both the ability to pay attention and the desire not to be babysat. It's polite, even. So let's remember our manners and resist the urge to make characters say some clunky "I'm really angry" line when going like this >:( would suffice. Let the reader interpret stuff sometimes, PLEASE. Make 'em work for conclusions. Participation is what makes things memorable, I promise!

OKAY, fine. I won't try to fill up every space. But when can I use this technique?

Like, all the time, dude. The next time you want someone to give you more details about something, just keep quiet after they answer and they'll feel pressured to— oh, wait. You mean in writing, right? Haha. Gotcha. Alright, let's have a look at the three main places where you can implement this:

Dialogue (what's left unsaid):

Nothing takes the wind out of a conversation's sails like overstating stuff. Seriously, don't underestimate the impact meaningful pauses, omissions, and interruptions can have on an otherwise bloated exchange. For instance:

"Are you okay?" John asked. "No. I'm angry with you. Also, this crossword puzzle represents a breakdown in our communication. Like, subtextually."

There are a few occasions where stating things plainly like that can work, such as when one character is tired of trying and failing to get the other to acknowledge their feelings, but for the most part, there are better ways to go about this. Consider:

"Are you okay?" John asked. Mary pushed her glasses back up her nose with her middle finger, and realizing she'd miscounted the spaces, crossed out her four-letter word for moron.

Yeah, that communicated a whole lot more and avoided the stilted expository language no one would actually use. Yay.

Another way to say things without really saying them is by having two characters talk about one thing when really, they're talking about something else entirely. It's the classic Hallmark movie moment where a father and son talk about baseball while actually talking about their strained relationship. It usually goes something like this:

Father: "The Mets aren't doing too hot this season. No discipline, no teamwork. At this rate they won't make it to the World Series." Son: "Yeah." Father: "Back in my day, the coach would've torn us apart for playing like that. No mercy. Certainly no room for egos." Son: "Maybe that's why no one wants to play for him anymore." Father: "Or maybe players these days don't take responsibility."*

*Assume awkward and combative eye-contact throughout.

So on and so forth. You've heard it a million times before. But the object lessons here are: the lack of anyone expressing how they actually feel, the beating around the bush via metaphor, and the maximizing tension by minimizing words. Negative spaces! Literally! There's a massive chasm between them and everything is negative as hell!

2. Description (what's left unshown):

Look, I'll be the first to advocate for describing what's present in scenes, because quite frankly, I'd have no damn clue what's going on otherwise. It's hard enough having to conjure up mental images from the black-and-white word soup in front of us. Having said that, indulging in a teeny bit of not showing things can be very effective. For instance:

Drawing attention to the scuff marks on the floor and making me infer that there used to be a second chair there is much more immersive than showing me the chair and having someone mention that no one sits there anymore.

Brains don't like empty spaces. They feel compelled to fill them. So let them! Readers will feel more engaged that way, and will be pretty much guaranteed to ask themselves more questions and get themselves more invested in the situation than if you'd simply filled in the blanks with clutter.

3. Action (what is left undone):

Much like how what you didn't say to your best friend that one time she wore a neon leotard to school says a lot about you, what you didn't do to keep her from slipping in the mud and ruining it forever communicates entire essays about your values, qualities, upbringing, and all those backstory details that make online personality quizzes so fun. To illustrate this:

The phone is ringing. It's someone your character hates. They could opt for action and take the call, perhaps cuss the other person out for good measure, but crucially, they could also opt out of the action. They don't have to take the call. In fact, not doing so might express an even deeper dislike than picking up and yelling would. It's all about using the "negative space" around the untaken action to define the subject at the core of the conflict, which in this case is anger.

Now imagine all the other subtle ways in which you could implement this! A king who doesn't rise when someone enters the throne room. A person lingering at the door and choosing not to knock. Someone getting a letter and deciding not to open it. The possibilities are endless, and there are plenty of empty spaces around them to play with. Yay.

4. Plot (what is left unexplained):

This one is a bit of a bonus observation, since it's not as immediately appreciable as the rest, but please don't be afraid to leave some gaps between plot points! Those empty ("negative") spaces are where the readers will trace their lines to connect the dots! Let them piece together the scraps of backstory and build your character up themselves; I promise you seeded everything well enough for them to arrive at the right conclusion unaided. Give them (and yourself!) some credit, dude.

In summary: emptiness can be cool and useful, and you should consider not saying/doing/showing the thing sometimes.

no 😔 i moved out on my own last year and went from having 2 dogs and 3 cats to nothing. i've been wanting to get a cat but im super allergic to them and also every time i try to look at cats up for adoption in my area i start hysterically crying within the first 30 seconds bc i can't take all of them home, so I, uh...haven't really gotten past the first step required to actually obtain a pet, but hopefully the cat-distribution system will get to me soon. i do have a family of raccoons that live on my roof, but i don't think that counts <3 love them though

1)honestly? i am not judgemental. at least not about things most ppl are judgemental about (weird interests, mental illness, looks, kinks, different tastes/religions etc.) I judge ppl on like...if there a bad person or not. like i will sit there and hound on a person for something they did that was fucked up, but if someone comes in and is like 'yeah, lol, and they're ugly too' im like ☝️☝️ pause. bc i'm not here to do all that. hopefully that makes sense. basically a furry is safe with me but not a very normal person who makes fun of ppl for being 'cringe'. nothing is cringe around ME.

2)also, i'm super sensitive, but this is not a side of me that literally anyone knows bc im so closed off. like, i'm known for being too cold, and ppl always describe me as not having any feelings, but really i was just bullied by my family when i was super little bc i would cry so much so then i just stopped doing it around other ppl. but i have such distinct memories from my childhood of me just staring out my bedroom window during a thunderstorm and hysterically crying bc i was thinking about all the stray animals that must be so scared out there (lowkey a lump started forming in my throat when i typed this out LMAOO). I also used to cry any time i saw a tree get cut down. I have not grown out of this behavior. actually since i moved out, i cry at least once a day - about literally anything. one day i cried for three hours straight bc i couldn't find parking. i cry whenever i see a stand at the farmers market with no customers at it. i cry when i see an old man crossing the road. i literally cannot stop crying ever. oddly enough, i love this about myself.

3)i have no desire to put other ppl down! i have always been surrounded by ppl who seem obsessed with putting me down and making fun of me (family and friends alike) so i know how horrible it feels and i never try to make other ppl feel like that. even when im super jealous of someone, i actually see that as a personal issue on my part, and it actually makes me more supportive of that person (ie, seeing a girl that's prettier than me, getting jealous for a second before i come to my senses, then genuinely complimenting her). if i don't like someone, i just dont interact with them, so i don't go out of my way to throw some nasty comment their way. there is something so sinister to me about consciously trying to bring other ppl down so i don't do that (i guess this ties in with #1 so im cheating hehehehehe)

"It's 1:00 in the morning go to sleep." Jouno tells you, leaning on the doorframe.

"No." You turn around to try to go under the covers.

Anyways uhhh... trip review! Yay yippee hurray etc!

What we did: We went to the botanical garden using one of those fancy two floor buses. Everyone fell victim to the novelty of it and went to the second floor, except for me and five other people. This made the ride feel pretty chill because there was not much noise and I got two seats all for myself.

When we got there we were given some time to use the bathroom before meeting the guides, so I took that time to wander around a bit and found this cool pond

Then, I went to meet the guide and they took us to an orchid green house (they mainly study orchids here). I did not gain any new information apart from learning the name of the orchid's modified lower petal. I did take some pictures though

Then, we walked through a secondary forest area, which really did not have anything particularly noteworthy apart from a lot of golden weeb spiders. We did find some ginger root plants and that lead to me learning that the liquid secreted by its flower is used as a higene product by some of the native groups here, which was cool

(The flower that was used by natives was the red variant, I used the yellow one because the picture I took was cooler. Nor sure if there is a substantial difference between the two)

After that, we arrived at the fern area (there are ferns there). Once more, I did not learn anything new and, once morer, I took some pictures

I had never seen a fern three in real life, so this was really awesome. There was also a pond with some water lilies there for some reason

The cactus area followed this, and it was really underwhelming. There was a fucking inflatable there and some people grilling, nor to mention that the presentation of the cactus was terrible. I learned nothing new (not that they discussed the cactus much). Also I got left behind here

After someone finally answered my desperate calling on the group chat, I managed to be reunited with my group. They where at the japanese garden (that is there for reasons), but my late arrival caused me to miss the lore of the place. There were barely any plants there, but they got some nice looking architecture (although I do not know anything about it)

And that was it for the guided tour. They just dropped us on a picnic area near the japanese garden an told us to go to the reaserch building in an hour. It was really disappointing

The building tour was like ten minutes long. There was a cool library some laboratories where they did micro propagation of plants (taking some meristemas [cells that allow the plant to grow] and leaving them to grow in some substrate while being shaken around so the cells do not differentiate and create roots, leaves or other stuff and then they divide those cells and use them to grow new plants[I knew about the practice, but not the process]) and a photography room where they take apart the plants and make informational images about their individual parts. It was ok

As for my final thoughts: This trip follows the last trip's thing of feeling way more like a fun little visit than an educational experience and I heavily dislike that. There where some moments in last one that were actual field biology that were absent in this one, so I find this one worse. The shirt I got here was cooler, though. korean comprehensible input update 5/30

i've been struggling since the beginning to find quality videos or shows at a level i can understand, and this last hundred hours was very difficult!!! so i looked around at my options & basically decided that comprehensible input (as close as i can get to my level) is still the best option for korean language learning.

though i'm keeping an eye out on alternatives!!

general check-in notes:

immersion: started reading some manhwas in spanish! a friend recommended solo leveling & lector omnisciente.

plans for the future: i'm adrift at sea! even when i hit podcasts for learners, i'll be watching preschooler shows for the rest of my life, probably.

timeline notes: the key capability for the roadmap level three is beginning to understand audio-only input. so, under the cut are some beginner-level podcasts & my comprehension level notes for benchmarking.

tl;dr: all beginner podcasts made for learners are super beyond my current level. (but there are 100+ hours when i get there!)

i know ive been inactive on this blog for today (or well, technically yesterday) but luckily, there is a very good reason !!!!

i spent a good few hours organizing this blog a bit (& my own main blog), so theres soooome minor changes, moreso for me than you guys, but ill still mention everything :3 (because i spent hours on this i wanna show it off LMAO)

i learned how to do gradients on text and it was SUCH A PAIN, but so worth it look guys its so pretty now ??

i tried to shorten the pinned post a bit, or atleast leas overwhelming so theres not much red gifs anymore, and instead of 'boundaries / fyi' theres now in & out of character sections !!

I made a crappy promo pic for my current wip "In Love and War", which I'll use to document my process this NaNoWriMo as a means to motivate myself. Ususally, I don't struggle with motivation, but this year, it's so hard to focus.

So far, I've written about 7k on Wednesday as it was a public holiday in my country. But although it was a lot, it dragged on as I was fighting to re-familiarise myself with the characters and the story. Normally, I start writing in late October, but as this year, I was participating in two fandom events and I had only three weeks to read through the chapters I wrote last year and refine the outline of the unwritten ones. So, I started this NaNo basically off with jumping in at the deep end--yay! Also, I'm dearly missing the word sprints on the NaNoWordSprints Twitter account which used to be much more frequently and were great to get into a state of hyperfocus when everything around you is a distraction.

Yesterday, I wrote 3k, which is actually a lot for a Thursday as it's the last day before my weekend starts and besides work, it's filled with some adulting stuff and things I ritually do on that day to draw a line under my workweek, and I tend to be super tired at night. But this time, I was able to produce a mostly coherent stream of words.

I'm SO looking forward to fully dive into the story over the weekend and finally feel the NaNo-vibes again. The story just arrived at the point where Yuuri's and Viktor's Grand Prix events start and I'm excited to write about that while following the irl Grand Prix Series on the ISU channel.

My main goal for this month will be to get into a state of hyperfocus in which I can write for hours and experience the story in its entirety. I haven't had this in a long time as too many distractions have messed with my ability to do that (thanks for nothing social media, day job, and scrum) and it's draining me. And if I can regain that, I will be happy with this draft as well.

Feeling a bit pathetic to promote In Love and War as the third instalment of a series when I'm still in the middle of posting the first one (and having massive doubts about that, which naturally makes me wonder whether I will ever post this wip).
