Tired of acting like Jason didn’t hate English class. “Oh but he loves reading!!” Yeah, me too but I HATEEE english class. Like don’t get me wrong, he would still get good grades. Top of this class, actually, but he would hate every part of it. 98% of the shit he learns/does in that class he hates with a passion. He actually likes the structure, like MLA and RCT, he appreciates the stability of having the same format. The subjects though? Oh he HATES the subjects. Like he refused to write things for Christopher Columbus day in elementary, and in high school he refused to write as if he was in a concentration camp. He doesn’t like limits and someone choosing a topic for him; he vehemently believes writing should come from the heart. Defending police brutality is NOT from his heart, so he makes the biggest deal about it when he has to write it. He’s also a certified menace in English. It’s one of the only classes that comes easy to him, so he gets by effortlessly while not paying attention. Instead of paying attention, he reads ahead, talks to people, and asks to go to the bathroom and stays on his phone for like 20 mins.
Teachers try to write him up but A; he’s the best student in the entire school and B; he’s Bruce Wayne’s kid. Teachers hate him, and students love him (they hate him too; his nerd ass is always fighting with the teachers).

As a Rook fan do you ever get the sense he game-ifies the hunt rather than acknowledge the true danger behind it? It almost feels like a form of escapism for him, ironically using it to run from something deeper his mind. Sometimes it feels like he refuses to face the reality of deadly situations because it would shatter his carefully constructed model through which he interacts with the world.
Hmmmmm
Rook definitely sees it as a game, but he absolutely knows the danger behind it. Look at the recent Coral Sea Event. While the group was trying to catch crabs, he specifically said that even if it was small to not underestimate your opponent. Therefore, Rook is always cautious despite his over the top flair. The dramatic flair could also be a cover for his vigilance. If people underestimate him or don’t take him seriously, then he’ll have an easier time catching his prey. Plus, Rook has the skill and confidence to back up most of his behaviors. Besides, Rook gets genuinely excited when hunting and observing his prey. It helps fuel his more crafted persona. A mix of truth and lies creates the best facades.
As for running from something, I don’t think so. Rook is an individual who’s aware of his surroundings and himself. I don’t think he’s running from something. He knows himself. He knows his values and behaviors. He knows what he’s doing and is comfortable with that and his decisions. I think he can be a little lonely at times. However, he knows why he’s not revealing more personal aspects and is ok with that reality. Rook could tell people more about his personal life to grow closer to others but he intentionally doesn’t. He’s calculated that the risks outweighs the reward. What that is? It’s probably a mixture of his safety and others’ too. Whatever his family does is most likely powerful, far reaching, and dangerous. They have teleporting locations in all the countries. You have to get government clearance on that. Rook was dropped into a jungle for at least a month when he was 6. That’s not normal.
If anyone knows the danger of both the big and the small, it would be Rook. He’s always vigilant. Idk where this information came from in the game, but Ortho snuck up behind him and his heart rate either stayed the same or had one spike and that was it. Regardless, what he did is impressive. The two options are he knew Ortho was there without looking or has the ability to adjust his heart rate. We’ve seen the latter before in one of the Halloween events.
From my perspective, Rook knows the dangers of hunting and has the skill to play the game. He also has keen awareness of his surroundings and himself.
I’m so glad someone is coming in my inbox with character inquiries! So exciting! Thank u anon!
(Off my adhd meds when I wrote this. Hopefully it’s coherent lol)

Ok, another question! Who do you consider Módi's mother? Jårnsåxa, given his alliteration and closeness to Mågni? Sif, given Sif and Thor are said to have a son named Hlóridi in an ehumerized account but Hlóridi is a byname of Thor? Another woman entirely? Or some Jötun-style type of reproduction since all of Thor's children are aspects of him?
Also: could you ramble a bit on Thor's children (Ullr, Thjalfi and Röskva included)?
Personally, I consider Móði’s mother is Sif, despite the identity of his mom in the myths never directly being stated in the surviving sources, which has led to speculation.
One strong candidate besides Sif is the jötunn JĂĄrnsaxa, who is explicitly named as the mother of MĂĄgni, Thor’s other son. Since Móði and MĂĄgni are often mentioned together, particularly in surviving Ragnarök and inheriting Mjölnir it makes sense to assume they share the same mother. Their names Móði meaning “Wrath” and MĂĄgni meaning “Might” also suggest some sort of pairing, reinforcing the idea that they could be twin-like or full siblings.
Thor himself is a product of such intermingling, with jötunn ancestry through his mother. So, having his sons follow that same lineage creates a consistent pattern as most of the Æsir has children with jötunn women.
Now, the theory that Sif is Móði’s mother, this actually comes from the Skjöldunga saga, a later euhemerized source in which Thor and Sif have a son named HlĂłridi. HlĂłridi, however, is a known byname of Thor himself, creating some confusion. Since Sif is Thor’s canonical wife in the mythos, it would make narrative sense for her to be the mother of at least one of his children, like Thrudr.
A third possibility is that Móði’s mother is simply unknown, and she wasn’t preserved or prioritized. This wouldn’t be unusual. Norse myth is fragmentary, much of it preserved through oral tradition, and many figures’ parentage or full stories were likely lost before being written down. That's at least a blank canvas for someone to insert an original character, how fun!
As for Ullr, Thjalfi and Röskva I don't know what you'd like for me to ramble about. But I'll glady tell you how i personally see them and their relationships with Thor! I honestly don't know who Ullr’s father would be, I've always just left it to stay unknown as that tends to be a recurring theme. I'd imagine he sees Thor as his father though, and they're close in some way.
For the human siblings, they're still treated as servants but sorta adopted. Thor, Sif and their kids most definitely see them as family but I'd like to imagine they maybe marry into the family? XD
Hear me out, Thor would probably trust someone who has helped maintain his house for years to marry his daughter or son than a.. certain poor dwarf named AlvĂss!
I think Thjalfi and Magni would make a cute couple. As for Roskva..? I haven't decided who she ends up with yet!

"Spirited Away" and "A Place Further Than the Universe"
After watching both "Spirited Away" and "A Place Further Than the Universe," I was captivated by the stories; however, I became distracted by the landscapes, colors, and comical skits, and I almost completely forgot to look for the underlying messages. In "Spirited Away," there are numerous examples of consumerism, such as the spirits being coerced by the gold No-face was producing, and Chihiro's parents greedily eating the food left for the spirits. In "A Place Further Than the Universe," how is capitalism depicted? The four girls escape to get away from the capitalist country, but they realize that it is much easier to live in a capitalist country. Yes, we discussed how consumerism and capitalism are portrayed throughout these anime; however, we also observed additional issues. Both of these anime deal with some form of grief. In "Spirited Away," Chihiro's parents ate the food put out for the spirits, turning them into pigs. Chihiro did everything she could to find her parents and turn them back into humans, even risking her life. She felt hopeless and desperate. Similarly, in "A Place Further Than the Universe," Shirase's mother had been missing for many years in Antarctica. Shirase made it her life's goal to go to Antarctica and find her mother, and she did everything in her power to achieve that goal. In both instances, the characters overcame their grief. Due to these issues with their parents, the girls had to grow up and learn the ways of the world more quickly than anticipated. The main characters in "Spirited Away" also faced challenges with anti-feminist ideas.
For example, for work, Chihiro was forced to clean the most disgusting bathhouse because she was a maid. The Japanese view women as dependent on men. However, in "A Place Further Than the Universe," the four girls resisted anti-feministic issues by going to Antarctica and working alongside everyone else. Not only this, but the leader of the group was a female. Eventually, Chihiro realized that she was not confined to her maid job, and she began looking for her parents and trying to get home. Both of these issues can be observed globally and, unfortunately, in my own life as well. Grief and hopelessness are far too common in everyday life, and so is a woman having to overcome barriers that were set in our lives because of our gender.

While these issues are subtly shown throughout these anime series, they have a significant impact on the characters' lives. The only connections I found were between the two anime. I did not see the readings to connect with the topics I spoke about.
