Making animations feeling fake af because I didn’t make the rig from the ground up like it’s 2013.

Also the animations are kind of just actually disfocused like sh*t bc perfecting the workflow is genuinely the important part even just for this project f my development as an artist.

clip studio paint is cool because they include some dolls to play dress up with. the downside is that you can spend way too long micro-posing the dolls and not actually get anything done

okay. i think perhaps the terrible, terrible moment has arrived. i need to find a new photo editing program

photoshop elements 8, my beloved dedicated photoshop elements 8 from the free software disc that came with my wacom bamboo tablet in 2012, is no longer opening certain types of gif files

it's possible it was never capable of opening these gifs idk, it's specifically gifs with a lot of frames that aren't opening, like the painting gifs from chicory a colourful tale, or the plot point gif from homestuck beyond canon

there is also the fact that a very long time ago i started having issues with the scroll bars not moving properly and needing to use specific shortcuts to scroll around. so the writing's been on the wall for a while, this is a sixteen-year-old program that was bound to stop working eventually and the time has come for me to finally grit my teeth and find something new

please if anyone has any recommendations for photo editing programs i would appreciate it

relevant information:

i already know about gimp, paint.net, pixlr, and photopea. i am looking for something more fully-featured and not browser-based (needs to be an application that can be downloaded, installed on my computer, and used offline)

i'm willing to pay some for something good but only a one-time fee for full ownership of a program i refuse to engage with subscription services

also down for some yo ho ho if anyone has resources for that

i need something that has both strong photo editing tools and illustration tools because i use both of those (although moreso the photo editing tools)

needs to be able to open large gifs with lots of frames, as well as save to gif format with robust options

needs a transform tool that can turn anti-aliasing on and off freely. it can't be turned off in pse8 and that has been annoying for editing pixel art, which i need to do a lot for making homestuck upd8 video thumbnails

needs to be able to flip/rotate/etc. specific layers without having to do that to the entire image. pse8 can only do flips like that with the entire image, i've been cutting layers into a new document flipping them and repasting them back into the original document to get around it which is very annoying

need to be able to see the whole image when using the liquefy tool, not just the layer i'm working on. pse8 will pull the single layer you're working on into an isolated popout window with a white background to use the liquefy tool so you can't see whether it's proportionally correct to the rest of the image

well so okay i did start drawing smthn but photoshop fucked up and took away the shortcut keys on the video animation timeline and wont let me add them back and i started crying about it 👍🏻 we'll try it again tomorrow boss

school absolutely killing me mentally bc im learning sm but its like i have this huge equation i need to solve to punch up anything i make and it genuinely feels like when im actually doing math snd i cant keep all the number straight or visualize them at the same time or if i focus on one part i forget about the other part and i have to have it all laying out right in front of me and i know what to do in theory but actually working it out takes me so so long and its so exhausting

my manager is soooo funny, she's always like "i know you're probably a lot like me and you have a lot of empathy for The Difficult Guy's mental health issues but we have to remember that we're not his therapist and we can't make him help himself" meanwhile every time he messages me i'm like "when is this jabroni getting fucking fired" and when he tries to bait me into asking questions about whatever's going on with him i'm like "damn dude that's crazy! so do you think you'll be hitting your deadlines just curious"

12th of October 2024: Eleven-striped Blind Snake

For the first time ever, I have decided to draw today’s snake (basing it upon the description we have and the fact they’re a blind snake), and it will quickly become apparent why that is. It turns out that it may be impossible to properly know anything about the Eleven-striped Blind Snake (Epictia undecimstriata) [1].

Based upon the original description, they are around 10-34 cm in length and of a brown colour. Their genus name Epictia is in reference to the absence (deriving from the latin e, without) of colour (pictus meaning painted) on their back. They do however have, as one may guess, 11 stripes, some of which may have yellow or red colouration [1].

Now they were originally described in 1845 based upon a 23 cm long specimen from Bolivia, specifically from Santa Cruz de la Sierra collected in 1839 [2]. However, this preserved individual has since been lost from the Paris museum where they were stored. In addition, “Santa Cruz de la Sierra” may have been referring to a different place in Bolivia in the 19th century. So essentially, we don’t know where they are and have no example to compare any other snakes to. Unsurprisingly, the IUCN has marked them as “Data Deficient” [3].
