not to brag about being good at my job but I’ve now developed two separate tools for debugging entirely on my own within my company entirely from scratch without help and A. it makes my job so much fucking easier and B. my boss is thinks im incredible just because im too lazy to want to write the same bits of code over and over just for debugging purposes

#unimportant thoughts #one i wrote 2-3 months ago #but i upgraded it this week to add in even more #and its just. perfect now.#given an id from any of the programs we built and run in our company #i instantaneously return everything about it #its name; what it does; what type of program it is; what server its run on; when it runs; where it connects; the parameters needed to #connect to wherever it connects; whether the program is currently turned on; the last 10 times the program ran; how many minutes each of #those runs took; how many files each of those runs created; whether those runs were successful; code snippets you can copy paste and run in #another window to look at the files created by each of those runs; the files created by the most recent run; thise file names; those file s #sizes; what types of files they are; whether theyre encrypted #how theyre encrypted #all of that and MORE #most of the information was already there but it took fucking 20 minutes to get all the information you needed #and you had to run a bunch of different snippets of code to get all the information and then put it all together #and now you can just fucking pop in the id of the program and .02 of a second later all the information is on your screen #AND IT MAKES MY LIFE SO MUCH EASIER #so. so. so. much. easier.#and then this week I wrote another program so I can compare runtimes of two different runs of the same program together based on how we stor #runtime data in our database #csuse i was tired of going back and forth manually between to different runs to compare #so now i have a program that just takes the ids of two different runs and compares them #doesnt even matter if the checkpoints are different I programmed it to figure out the order automatically and plug in any missing holes #finds the differences in runtime automatically and flags the biggest differences #and I can even customize how much of a difference I care about or to hide things I don’t care about

Getting looser with lineart and better at colour schemes and simplifying shading. Is good actually.#It's so much easier to eyeball what a colour would look like in a setting instead of colourpicking the OG palette and struggling with...#...like 9 overlay and multiply and soft/hard light layers #Approximating colour genuinely looks better than forcing local colour into the piece. As long as the values are still there it works out #comic

so when straight people ask me why I say I’m “queer” or “gay” instead of sharing my actual identity as a panromantic demisexual non-binary sapphic queer I just tell them “ok look, when you’re talking to someone who isn’t local and they ask you where you’re from and you either say the name of the largest city nearby or ‘town name, suburb of large nearby city’ so they can get some geographical context of where you’re located right, bc they’re probably not going to know the name of the little town you actually live in.”

but if you’re talking to a local you can say the name of your actual town bc they have a greater chance of knowing where/what that is.

ok well when I’m talking to a straight person I start with queer bc chances are they aren’t as familiar with the context of all the little towns in that big queer city and need gps (gay positioning system) to find me.

if I’m talking to another queer person and I say I live in a suburb of gay city in a town called panromantic on the demisexual side of the tracks which is in the county of queer and I live off the intersection of non-binary and sapphic, they’d probably be able to find me with little to no problems, make sense?

I don't know how strictly accurate this is, but one of the things I find shocking about watching historical dramas is how many people there are around all the time---according to Madame de... (1953) a well-off French household in the Belle Epoque maintains a workforce of at least 3, and the glittering opera has staff just to open doors. According to Shogun (2024) you can expect a deep bench just to mind your household, and again, people who exist to open doors.

Could people....not open doors in the past? Were doors tricky, before the standardization of hinges? Because otherwise, the wealthy used to pay a whole bunch of people to do it for them in multiple contexts, and I find myself baffled.

#I mean..........listen.#maybe people in the past had superfluous staff just to open doors. because of reasons.#fair enough! that made their lives easier. okay cool. making things easier is what money brings you. except....#there are many parts of my life that would be so much easier with support staff! dishes. vacuuming. grocery shopping.#doors though? opening and shutting doors???#can't say that's come up as a particular concern.#I feel aggressively stupid asking this question but also. why doors. someone dial up a 19th century fella and explain.
