NO ONE NOTICED, right?
BOYNEXTDOOR when they accidentally reveal their secret relationship with you
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Idol!boynextdoor x gn!idol!reader Genre: fluff, soft, total chaos, established relationship Warnings: bnd being a bunch of idiots that love their partner, mild language, fans being FBI-level detectives
Myung Jaehyun:
He was livestreaming when it happened — just casually reading some comments when, out of nowhere, you walked into his hotel room. He looked at you with the biggest smile... like he completely forgot he was live.
"Hey, baby" he said, stretching out his arm to pull you in. It wasn’t until he noticed you standing frozen, eyes wide in panic, that he realized what he’d just done.
The next day, even though the livestream was deleted, Twitter was flooded with the video. People even dug up old clips, adding captions like, “How were we so blind?”
Park Sungho:
It happened during an interview. He was distracted, missing you more than usual, and when the interviewer jokingly asked, “Is there anyone special waiting for you guys tonight?” — he didn’t even think.
“Yeah, I miss my baby, Y/N...” The moment it left his mouth, his face went pale. The members immediately tried to cover it up by being loud, laughing it off — but his expression said it all. He knew he messed up.
Riwoo:
It was just supposed to be a collab stage. In fact, it technically wasn’t even his fault. The staff just hadn’t noticed the kiss you two shared in the background while Woonhak was being interviewed.
Surprisingly, fans didn’t take it the wrong way — they actually loved your relationship.
Taesan:
Okay, this one was totally his fault.
He was so excited to see you at the M Countdown show that he couldn’t hold it in.
“You were amazing the other day, baby. I’m so proud of you.”
He was so sweet... if only that clip hadn’t been playing on the big screen. And if only fans hadn’t been able to clearly read his lips.
Leehan:
He didn’t mean to reveal anything either. He was just so excited to be on your solo YouTube show that he couldn’t stop smiling, laughing, and giving you those heart eyes. How was he supposed to know fans would be that obsessed — enough to dig up old pictures of the matching couple collars from that beach trip a year ago? The same collar he casually wore in a backstage vlog?
“At least we don’t have to hide it anymore?” He always tried to see the bright side.
Woonhak:
Who would've thought a livestream could go that chaotic.
It was his birthday, and he was doing a solo live when he got a call. He picked up quickly, meaning to tell them he was live — but didn’t realize the phone was on speaker.
The way his face dropped when your voice came through: “Hey baby, how’s my birthday boy?”
Pure. Chaos.
He panicked, accidentally hung up on you, and tried way too hard to explain himself to fans before abruptly ending the stream. It didn’t even matter — everyone recognized your voice. Some even figured out you’d met during his MC days.

Six Times You and Bakugou Couldn't Escape Each Other (and One Time You Really Couldn't) #katsuki bakugou x fem!reader ⤷ Every year, without fail, your families book at the same resort at the same time—for six years straight. And every year, like clockwork, you and Bakugou Katsuki somehow manage to ruin each other’s vacation. (5k)
Warning: grammar, idk ajsdnkada
next
Year one
“Sweetheart, slow down!” your father called out behind you as you bolted down the hallway, suitcase wheels clattering noisily behind you. You could hardly contain your excitement for the week ahead. Your parents had promised a stay at a luxurious five-star resort—complete with museums, slides, swimming pools, nature for sight seeing and more. To your ten-year-old mind, it sounded like paradise.
You fumbled eagerly with the hotel room keycard your mother handed you earlier, finally managing to swipe it through the door scanner. With a satisfying click, the door opened, and you stepped inside—eyes widening in awe.
The room was huge. The soft scent of linen and the faint hum of air conditioning greeted you as you took in the two queen-sized beds. One was obviously meant for you, and the other is for your parents, though everyone knew you'd end up sleeping with them anyway. Still, your parents had asked for an extra bed, hoping to make you feel a little more independent.
“Mama! There’s a huge balcony!” you squealed, climbing up on a nearby chair to peek out at the view.
“Be careful, my dear,” your mother warned gently as she came over and scooped you into her arms, holding you securely so you could see better. The sun bathed the surrounding trees in golden light, and below, the pool sparkled like a jewel.
“Dear look, we have a neighbor,” she murmured, pointing to the balcony beside yours.
Later, you busied yourself by placing Mr. Strawberry—your beloved stuffed bear—on the bed near the large window. You carefully unpacked his accessories from your bag: a pair of sunglasses, a pink dress (because Mr. Strawberry didn’t care about colors), and a plastic toy ice cream cone.
“What else did I bring?” you muttered, burying your head into the small backpack to make sure you hadn’t missed anything.
When you finally pulled your head out, you froze.
Standing in front of you, gripping Mr. Strawberry by the neck with a suspicious glare, was a blond boy around your age. His red eyes were narrowed into a deadly squint, locked onto you like laser. You blinked. He blinked back—menacingly.
“Can you give him back to me?” you asked, arms stretched out, trying to sound calm despite the twitch in your eye. “No,” the blond menace replied, with all the audacity in the world.
You took a deep breath. Maybe he didn’t hear you right. “Please give me back.” He looked you dead in the eyes, held the bear tighter, and said, “No. Again.”
Without thinking, you launched yourself forward, diving to rescue Mr. Strawberry from the clutches of the foul beast.
“What are you doing?!” you screeched, tugging at your bear’s paw.
“Why are you in our room?!” he snapped, yanking back.
“This is our room, you jerk!”
“You’re the jerk!”
Kid logic took over, and the war began.
"You murderer!" you cried, grabbing a fistful of his spiky hair and yanking it like your life depended on it.
"OW! You psycho!" he bellowed, still holding Mr. Strawberry hostage.
That was the moment your parents burst out of the bathroom, faces frozen in horror. There you were, their sweet little child, with a death grip on some blonde boy’s hair, while he clutched your teddy bear like it was a hostage negotiation gone wrong.
“KATSUKI! We haven’t even checked into the room and you're already causing trouble!” a voice shouted from the doorway.
All eyes turned to the new arrival—a wild-eyed blonde woman, her fiery stare nearly identical to the boy’s. She stormed over, grabbed the boy—Katsuki—by the collar, yanked the bear from his arms, and gently handed it back to you with a tight, apologetic smile.
“I’m very sorry,” she said with a deep, frantic bow, still hugging her son tightly as he kicked and protested in her grip. “I hope my son didn’t hurt your daughter.”
“Why are you apologizing?! That brat started it!” Bakugou barked, twisting in her arms.
“What brat!?” you snapped, hugging Mr. Strawberry tightly to your chest as you locked eyes with the demon child in a full-on death glare challenge.
“We’re also sorry. I hope our daughter didn’t hurt your son,” your parents added politely, bowing back.
You turned toward them with a look of sheer betrayal.
“What?! He started it! He wanted Mr. Strawberry to die! He was gripping him by the neck!” you defended with the sincerity of someone reporting a serious crime.
“Hah! That’s a stupid name for a teddy bear,” Bakugou muttered, sticking out his tongue and pulling a face.
His mother quickly slapped her hand over his mouth and hissed, “Shut it.”
Your father knelt down in front of you, his expression calm and soft. “Sweetheart, I know how protective you are of Mr. Strawberry, but you could have really hurt him. I don’t think Mr. Strawberry would’ve wanted that.”
That made you pause. You looked down at Mr. Strawberry, then up at the boy who had just been silenced by his mother. His mouth was finally free, and he looked like he had more dumb things to say.
“If he apologizes for hurting Mr. Strawberry,” you said solemnly, “then I’ll apologize too.”
“Hah! As if I will—!”
“Katsuki.” His mother’s tone was deadly.
“...Fine! Sorry!” he spat.
You gave a slow, dramatic nod. “Fine. Sorry too.”
And thus, a truce was declared.
“Again, my deepest apologies,” the woman said, rubbing her temple with a sigh. “The receptionist gave us the wrong keys”
She turned to your parents, offering a strained smile. “I’m Mitsuki Bakugou, by the way.” She reached out to shake their hands with her right hand while still trying to wrangle the wild animal with the other.
She finally set him down when a man’s voice called out from behind her.
“Honey, I finally got the keys!”
A man with slightly tousled brownish hair stepped into view, holding up a new keycard triumphantly. The demon child—aka Katsuki Bakugou—immediately ran over and latched onto the man’s leg like a clingy goblin.
Mitsuki grabbed the card from his hand as he introduced himself as the husband and father. You blinked. This gentle, quiet-looking man was the father of that tiny demon? You couldn’t quite figure out how that made sense. But then again, his mother was currently throwing daggers with her eyes at her own son. Maybe chaos just ran in the bloodline.
“Looks like we’re next to each other,” she said with a small smile, glancing between your families.
That statement made both you and Katsuki whip your heads around to glare at each other.
This vacation was doomed.
Year two
“I’m so excited!” you muttered to yourself, practically bouncing on your heels. Today was the day—you were finally going to ride the big slide. The one that twisted around the resort’s water park. It was so cool, you had to climb three flights of stairs before you even began.
You hurried up the stairs, clutching the wet rail, already picturing yourself screaming with joy on the way down. But just as you reached the second floor, an aggravatingly familiar voice echoed behind you.
“I’m faster than you, idiot!”
That kid. The one from last year. Bakugou Katsuki, aka the bane of your last year vacation’s existence, was charging up the stairs like his life depended on it.
Was it stupid to race up three flights of slippery stairs, where one wrong step could lead to a full-on cartoon-style head trauma? Absolutely.
Did that stop you?
Not a chance. He ruined your vacation last year (both of you had spent the entire week glaring at each other across hallways, pool chairs, and buffet lines until the day you left).
You took off after him, determined not to let the blond gremlin beat you. The two of you reached the top at the same time, immediately breaking into a loud argument over who touched the top step first.
“I clearly beat you!”
“No way, I saw your foot slip, loser!”
The poor lifeguard attendant looked at you both with all the exhaustion of someone who did not get paid enough for this. After one long glance, she pointed toward the exit.
“You’re both too little for the slide.”
You stared in horror. Bakugou’s face contorted with the rage of a thousand suns.
“What?! That’s stupid! I can ride it! Height doesn’t even matter! I’m ready! I’ve got reflexes and everything!”
The worker sighed, looking you both over with an exhausted expression. “Kid,” she said, pointing directly at Bakugou, “you’re standing on your tiptoes right now.”
Bakugou shot her a death glare, but she didn't flinch.
“And,” she continued, barely hiding the exhaustion in her voice, “you need to be fifteen years old to slide down”
“I’m fifteen!” you insist, trying to convince the lifeguard. You widen your eyes, putting on your best puppy-dog look. Well it doesn’t work because both of you ended up sulking at the bottom of the slide five minutes later—soaked, grumpy, and somehow even more determined to ruin each other’s day.
“This is your fault!” Bakugou snapped, crossing his arms and practically vibrating with rage.
“Huh?! Be grateful we didn’t end up banned from the slide because of your ego! Demon child!” you shot back, pointing at him like he was the cause of global warming.
Bakugou, clearly offended. “What did you just call me?!” He lets out a loud tch and sparks begin crackling from his palms—tiny bursts of frustration lighting up like firecrackers.
And of course, not to be outdone, you activated your own quirk—just enough to make your point.
“Kids,” the lifeguard said, suddenly appearing between you like a divine referee, placing a hand on each of your shoulders. “Please don’t use your quirks. There are children running around. And frankly, you’re the loudest ones here.”
You both instantly looked away, muttering complaints under your breath. But the battle was far from over.
Year three
You tried not to be paranoid—really, you did. This was supposed to be a good week. You were at your favorite resort, the sun was shining, and everything should’ve been perfect.
Should’ve.
But how could you truly enjoy it when a certain gremlin with anger issues kept popping up every year to ruin your peace?
Not this time, you told yourself. This year, you were going to have a good time. No explosions. No arguments. No Katsuki Bakugou.
That’s why you begged your mother to sign up for the museum tour being held on the other side of the resort. A quiet, educational day. Some mother-daughter bonding. And besides, the odds are in your favor. Day three of your trip and you still haven’t seen him.
“My dear, are you okay?” your mother asked, noticing the way your head kept whipping side to side.
You were scanning the crowd like a wartime soldier, just to be sure there were no signs of blond chaos. You hated to admit it, but every time you spotted someone with spiky blond hair, your soul briefly left your body and rage came in.
Even back home in the United States, you found yourself flinching at the sight of blond, spiky hair in public. He lived in Japan, for crying out loud.
And yet, every time you spotted someone who even remotely resembled him, your fight-or-flight kicked in like clockwork.
“And this,” the tour guide said cheerfully, pointing to a glass display, “is a fossil discovered along the shores of this very resort!”
You leaned in, relaxing just a bit—until the guide looked past the crowd and said:
“Oh! You must be Ms. Bakugou! Please, please, join the tour. You’re not late.”
No.
No, no, no.
Why.
You turned slowly, clinging to your last sliver of hope that maybe it was just his mom. Maybe she came alone this year. Maybe the universe had some mercy.
But no. Because right there, next to her, stood him. And of course, he was already looking directly at you like he knew this would happen.
You whipped your head back around.
Don’t look again. Don’t look again. Don’t—
You looked again.
And he smirked.
He only muttered two words.
“Mr. Strawberry”
That was it. Just two words.
Oh, you were going to go berserk on a 12-year-old.
Year four
If you asked Bakugou if he loved the beach, he’d tell you he hated it more than losing a fight—because at least that, he could control. He could train harder, fight smarter, blast his way to a win. But the beach? The beach had sand that was somehow always stuck in his shoes, sunburn on his neck, and screaming kids with no sense of personal space.
He’d take a sparring match over this hell they called the beach any day.
And yet, every summer, without fail, his parents dragged him back to the same resort.
He'd complain, scowl, and threaten to blow up the welcome banner—again. But deep down? There was something about this place that kept him from actually going nuclear.
Something he refused to admit even existed.
And right now, that something was in front of him, on the balcony beside his own. Glaring while holding that ridiculous plushie with the equally ridiculous name Mr. Strawberry. It’s so absurd, so laughable, that Bakugou could hardly hold back a snort every time he thought about it. He’d even catch himself smirking in class sometimes, thinking about how seriously you’d defend that stupid bear.
“I guess satan couldn’t reach me so he sent you,” You remarked with a mocking grin, your eyes gleaming with mischief.
Bakugou stared at you blankly, his expression the epitome of unamused. “What did you just say?”
You turned to leave, done with his obnoxious presence. But before you could take a step away, Bakugou's eyes flicked over to the water gun resting on the railing beside him. His gaze narrowed, and a dangerous smirk played on his lips.
“Oh, you think you can walk away without paying for that?” he muttered to himself, his fingers tightening around the handle of the water gun. With one swift motion, he aimed it directly at you.
The cold blast of water hits you square in the back, instantly drenching your pajama and sending a chill through your spine.
You whipped around, face flushed with irritation. “What the hell, Bakugou?!”
He was grinning now, pure smugness plastered across his face. “Satan said you needed a bath.”
You looked at him, seething with frustration, your hand already reaching for something you could use in return. And then it clicked. His stupid mistake.
You grabbed the water gun sitting by your side, fully aware that a little bit of payback was in order. You aimed it at him, squeezing the trigger with satisfaction as the cold stream of water hit his chest.
“Guess you needed one too,” you shot back, a smirk forming on your face now.
Bakugou's eyes flared with irritation, and for a moment, it seemed like he might retaliate with a blast of his quirk. But there was something about the way the water gun had soaked him that made him pause, a little part of him enjoying this.
Damn it. He cursed silently, but deep down, he knew that this—whatever this is—had become a weird part of his vacation routine.
And that’s when it hit him: The universe must really hate him. For the past four years, he’d been stuck in the same resort, rooming next to you year after year. Always just a balcony away. Always.
It was like the universe wanted him to deal with you. And Mr. Strawberry.
And for a moment, the stupid thought flickered in his mind: This summer wouldn’t feel right without it.
“Tch, whatever," Bakugou grumbled, wiping his face with his hand. "This is so stupid."
Year five
“Mom, you know I hate hiking, right?” you groaned as you trudged behind your parents up the hill.
“Dear, I thought you wanted to be a pro-hero?” your mother chirped back. “You need stamina training! And fresh air!”
“Lots of fresh air,” your dad added, already taking a dramatic picture of the tree line like it was the cover of a nature documentary. “This resort just keeps getting better. Look at this view! Million-dollar scenery!”
You did admit—it was beautiful. Rolling green hills, birds chirping, a breeze cool enough to keep your sweat from sticking. Still.
“Great, can we go back now?” you asked, eyes hopeful. Desperate.
Your mother shot you a look. “That’s a terrible mindset, young lady.”
And then—because the universe is an evil, evil thing—a familiar voice spoke up behind you.
“I see you’ve finally taken a liking to hiking, huh?”
You didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. Masaru Bakugou. Which could only mean…
“Of course,” you muttered under your breath. Why not ruin the day completely.
Sure enough, stomping beside his parents, wearing a scowl that could peel bark off a tree, was none other than him. Bakugou Katsuki. He grew around a few inches in height since last year but still the same temper, same explosive aura of annoyance. But this time… he locked eyes with you and groaned like it physically hurt.
“Oh, come on,” he hissed.
Well, at least you could agree on one thing: neither of you wanted to be here.
“How about we all hike up there?” Mitsuki grinned, already locking arms with your mother like they had been best friends since forever.
“Sure!” your mom beamed, and just like that, both sets of parents began their cheerful ascent, chatting like this hike wasn’t a death sentence.
You and Bakugou trailed behind at a very safe distance from each other—until, of course, that peace was destroyed.
“That’s a robin,” you said, pointing to a small bird on a branch.
“No, it’s not. That’s a sparrow, dumbass.”
You stopped in your tracks, horrified. “Excuse me? Sparrows don’t have red chests. It’s a robin.”
“Tch. As if you know anything about birds. You think everything small and fluffy is a robin.”
“Well at least I know what a robin looks like! I did a birdwatching project in 3rd grade!”
“Yeah? Must’ve failed it.”
You were both now full-on bickering, flailing your arms and pointing at birds, while the rest of the group climbed steadily ahead. Neither of you noticed that in the middle of your feathery fight, you'd veered off the main trail.
“I hope that robin poops on your head,” you snapped.
“I hope it’s a hawk and it carries you off,” he shot back.
By the time you both paused for air, the trail was gone… and so were your parents.
“We’re not that far off the trail… right?” you asked, trying—really trying—not to sound as nervous as you felt. The trees looked taller now. The shadows, longer. Even the birds were quiet.
Bakugou glanced up at the sky. “The sun’s about to set.”
You followed his gaze and swallowed. The golden light was fading fast, dipping low behind the mountains. Your stomach twisted.
There was something in his eyes—not panic exactly, but awareness. A shift in the air. Seriousness that Bakugou never had when he was arguing with you. That made your chest tighten.
“…So, we’re just a little lost,” you tried again.
He didn’t reply right away. Instead, he looked around, jaw tight. “We’ll find the trail. Just stop freaking out.”
“I’m not freaking out,” you snapped.
You were definitely freaking out.
Bakugou exhaled sharply, adjusting the backpack slung over one shoulder. “Come on. Just stick close.”
“…You’re not gonna leave me if we get chased by a bear, right?”
He glanced at you, his expression unreadable for a second. Then he muttered, “Only if you slow me down.”
But you caught it—the faintest smirk. And weirdly, you felt just a little less lost.
It’s been what—minutes? Hours? Days? Years? You don’t know. What you do know is you both still haven’t found the trail.
“Eat,” Bakugou said, tossing a granola bar your way. “You need energy.”
You unwrapped the bar slowly, staring at it as if it might somehow give you the answers you were desperately searching for. “I’m sorry,” you said in a defeated voice, your words barely above a whisper as you took a small bite.
Bakugou didn’t look up, focused on his own bar. “For what?”
“If I didn’t argue with you, we probably wouldn’t be here... lost,” you mumbled, the guilt in your chest gnawing at you.
Bakugou’s eyes flicked to you briefly before returning to the ground in front of him. “Don’t be stupid. It takes two people to end up in a heated argument. Don’t take the blame.”
“Wow, so mature, Bakugou,” you replied, chuckling.
Bakugou exhaled sharply, but there was the faintest hint of a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. “Okay, I take it back. It’s your fault.”
You laughed, but before you could reply, Bakugou added, almost as an afterthought, “Next time, don’t follow idiots into the woods. Especially if the idiot’s me.”
And for some reason... that sounded a lot like, “I’m glad you were with me.”
Then you both hear it—the unmistakable sound of voices, distant at first, but growing louder with every passing second. Your heart jumps into your throat as you realize it’s bakugou’s and your parents calling your names.
You finally see them—your parents, rushing toward you through the trees. The sight of them, the sound of their voices. As soon as they reach you, they envelop you in a tight, desperate hug. You can feel their tears soaking into your shirt, but you don’t mind. You cling to them just as tightly, your own tears falling freely.
“Oh my god, we were so scared!” your mother sobs, not letting go, her arms shaking around you.
“Never do that again, sweetheart,” your father chokes out, voice thick with emotion.
But despite the comfort of your parents’ embrace, your eyes instinctively dart to the side. You catch a glimpse of the Bakugou, standing just off to the side. His parents are also hugging him tightly, but it’s Bakugou you’re watching. He’s looking at you, his face unreadable, but his eyes... his eyes are focused solely on you.
Year Six
This was stupid.
Bakugou wasn’t a wimp. He wasn’t some crybaby extra scared of a dumb water slide. He was fifteen years old, damn it. A certified teenager. Practically a man.
He’d been waiting for this. Every summer, he’d glare at the height requirement sign, fists clenched, promising next year would be his year. And now it was. He finally hit the mark. He could go on the biggest, fastest, craziest ride in the whole resort.
So why did it suddenly look... bigger than he remembered?
Bakugou stared at the dark tunnel of the slide. You couldn’t see what was inside. Couldn’t see where the turns were, or how steep the drops got. All you could hear was the echo of rushing water—and the occasional shriek of someone halfway down.
It bugged him more than he wanted to admit.
Because he liked knowing what was coming. He liked control. Strategy. Knowing where to aim, how to move, what to blast. But this? This was just blind falling.
His feet didn’t move.
“You coming or what?”
Of course you were here.
Why didn’t he think of that?
Of course the universe would punish him further by making you the one to witness him scream like a toddler over a dumb slide.
“You scared of a little splash?” you asked with a grin, arms crossed as you stood by the stairs.
“Shut up,” he snapped automatically.
But you noticed it—the way he hesitated, his fists clenched a little tighter than usual. Yeah. He was scared.
Six years of knowing Bakugou—well, “knowing” was a strong word. You only saw him every summer, and most of those memories involved glaring matches, passive-aggressive sabotage, and possibly a near-death pool float incident. Still, you knew enough to read the signs.
“How about I go first?” you offered, stretching your arms like this was some kind of heroic sacrifice. “If I survive, then you’re definitely gonna survive too.”
“Tch. Why the hell would that mean anything?”
“Because I’m better than you,” you said, stepping beside him. “So if I make it out alive, there’s hope for you.”
He rolled his eyes, but didn’t say anything.
You looked at the slide—tall, winding, dark. Then back at him. And for once, you didn’t tease. You didn’t joke. You just said quietly, “It’s not as scary as it looks. You just gotta trust the ride. Trust yourself.”
Then you pushed off, disappearing into the tunnel with a splash and a laugh that echoed after you.
Bakugou stood there, blinking.
He could hear your scream echoing through the slide tunnel—a mix of thrill and victory—and not two minutes later, he spotted your small figure from below. You were dripping wet, grinning up at him like you just conquered the world. Then you threw him the biggest thumbs-up he’d ever seen.
And something about that—your smile, your faith in him, the way you waited—did something weird to his chest. Tight, warm, unfamiliar.
He gritted his teeth, steeling himself. Alright. He could do this.
He stepped up to the edge, heart pounding. This is stupid, he reminded himself one last time. Then, he closed his eyes and took a long breath. When he opened them again, he dove forward.
Instantly, he was swallowed by speed. Flashes of color streaked past, water rushing around him, tugging him down, spinning him through twists and turns. But instead of panic—he felt it.
Freedom.
He was flying, gliding, laughing without meaning to. And for once, he wasn't thinking about winning or training or looking tough.
He was just having fun.
By the time he shot out of the slide with a splash, blinking water from his eyes, he saw you waiting with crossed arms and a smug look.
“You survived,” you said.
He snorted, pushing his wet hair back. “Told you I wasn’t scared.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Sure, whatever helps you sleep at night.”
But the smile you gave him? That was real. And this time, he didn’t look away.
“Do you want to go down the slide again?” you asked, eyes still sparkling from the adrenaline.
Bakugou glanced at the sky, then toward the resort. “We need to go. Check-out’s at eleven.”
“Oh.” You muttered, trying to hide your disappointment. “Right…”
But then, as always, you bounced back with a grin. “Then see you next year. Whoever slides down the most times wins.”
Bakugou scoffed, pushing himself up the pool, grabbing his towel and slinging it over his shoulder. “Tch. Like hell I’m gonna let you win.”
He didn’t want to smile—but yeah, it tugged at the corners of his mouth anyway.
“Better start training, gremlin.”
You stuck your tongue out at him, and as he walked towards the elevator, something about that moment lingered.
A promise.
Year Seven – After the Vacation
This is why Bakugou doesn’t do promises.
Because he kept it. Day after day, for that entire week, he waited for you at the bottom of the slide. Arms crossed. Scowl on. Towel slung over his shoulder like he didn’t care.
But he did.
You never came.
His mom said maybe you went to a different resort this year—after all, you were from the United States. “Things change, Katsuki,” she said.
But that didn’t stop the sting. Didn’t stop him from looking for that ridiculous plushie. Or listening for your laugh. Or pretending he didn’t check the pool every morning, just in case.
You didn’t come—and that pissed him off more than he wanted to admit.
He could’ve used that time to train. To prepare for the U.A. entrance exam. Not that it mattered—he was going to pass anyway. But still. He wasted time on you.
Now he’s sitting at his new desk, jaw tight, glaring at the front of the classroom as the homeroom teacher, Mr Aizawa flips through the attendance sheet. He doesn't care who his classmates are. Couldn’t care less about some dumb electricity guy or the half-and-half weirdo.
And Deku is here. Great. Just fantastic. He still doesn’t understand how he got a quirk.
His foot tapped impatiently against the floor. And then Mr. Aizawa said—
“Next, we have a student from overseas. Transferred from the U.S. due to exceptional entrance scores.”
The door slid open with a soft click.
Bakugou didn’t look.
He was too busy pretending not to care, arms crossed, scowl perfectly in place. But then he heard it—that voice.
A little breathless. A little out of place. A polite, mumbled “Sorry” to Mr. Aizawa. And then—He had to make sure.
He looked up.
And there you were. Standing in the doorway in a U.A. uniform, bag slung over your shoulder. And then you looked at him.
Eyes squinting. Recognition slowly settling in. Connecting the dots like constellations in the sky.
“…Demon Child.”
The room went dead silent.
Someone coughed. Aizawa blinked. Midoriya looked like he was trying to figure out if this was a villain code name.
But Bakugou?
He’s pissed. Probably.
At you? Maybe. At the universe? Definitely. At the fact that now, for the first time in six years, you’re closer than you’ve ever been before.
But most of all, he’s pissed at himself—because despite everything, despite the hours he spent waiting by that slide like an idiot, despite how you didn’t show.
Seeing you again did something to his chest.
And now? Now you’re stuck in the same hero class.
Fate, apparently, has a damn good sense of humor.
...
A/N: this is inspired by the fact that me and my family went to the same resort every vaca hasjdhajkdha (unfortunately there's no cute guy (ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈) )

The stench of blood assaults your nose.
It’s not the tantalizing, mouth-watering scent of someone else’s, no, it’s your own. It smells all sorts of wrong, impure and old with decay only to a thing like you.
Your blood runs down your skin in rivulets, staining it a deep, shiny red. Droplets fling from your body as you thrash and jerk against the heavy, silver chains that bind you to a thick and sturdy tree. The pain of the bark digging into your back is nothing compared to the agony of the chains burning your flesh away, steam rising from your injuries like you’d been placed on burning coals. It makes you wild, desperate to get away but with nowhere to go.
There’s no chance of you escaping the chains that sit against your neck, arms, waist, and legs in sets of two, even despite your struggling and the way you try to launch yourself from the tree with the slight leeway you have with your feet. Your unnerving eyes gleam in the moonlight, wide and frantic with fear, your bloodstained, jagged teeth showing in your open mouth. You feel as far from human as you possibly could be, snarling like an animal and chained just like one too.
The men watching you seem to think the same thing.
There’s five of them, two sit on their horses while the other three steadily pace the small clearing they have you in. God damn vampire hunters, armed to the teeth with everything they need to kill the likes of you. Silver bullets, silver chains, garlic and holy water, wooden stakes on their belts. It’s like they’re surrounded by a bubble of protection that you can’t penetrate, that’ll hurt you if they get too close—which isn’t that far off.
You curse yourself over and over. You and Remmick made damn sure to stay away from Choctaw land and yet here you are, caught and beaten. This is a new type of hunter, one you’d never had the misfortune of coming across before. They hunt in the dead of night, they enjoy watching you thrash and suffer, and their methods are cruel, meant to draw out your punishment.
You’ve never heard or seen a lick of them prior to tonight when you’d been ambushed and chased through the woods.
A gunshot had pierced your shoulder, one that brought more pain than your typical lead bullet. It had left you stumbling with a choked yell, steam rising from the hole in your shoulder blade. Then you’d heard the rustling in the underbrush, the hoots and hollers of men with a different kind of bloodlust than what you’re used to. Oh you’d ran, you’d ran as fast as your legs could carry you through the rough terrain of the forest, clearing fallen logs and scraping your bare arms on branches and thorns.
They’d caught you with another bullet to your thigh and a rope around your legs, pulling snug as soon as you tried to take another step and sending you thudding onto the hard ground. They’d wrapped you in silver soon after, seemingly experts on how to maneuver around you to avoid your snapping teeth and deadly nails. The first touch of the silver made your skin bubble and burn, a scream tearing out of your throat against your will. They’d dragged you crying for you don’t know how long behind their horses, all the way to the edge of the forest that overlooks a field that’s flat for as far as the eye can see.
You don’t know where they came from, they’re clearly unrelated to any other group or tribe of hunters, instead being just a gaggle of men who have dedicated their lives to eradicating yours. The history of your kind isn’t widely known, isn’t readily available to the public, so in your pain-addled brain you still wonder where they heard your tales, still wonder what else you might have to worry about if the knowledge is growing.
Your head thumps back, your breath coming ragged through your lungs. You shut your eyes tight for just a moment, trying to force away any more tears and clear your head. You haven’t felt pain like this in a long, long time, especially because Remmick has always been there to keep an eye on you, to keep you out of harms way. But not this time, not when you strayed too far and got too distracted to be vigilant about your surroundings. You’d been stupid and you know that, so part of you thinks you deserve this.
“Just stake me and be done.” You groan, ultimately defeated as the silver chains bite through your skin to the bone. It’s not like you want to die necessarily, you just want to be released from your own agony. You hate the way they’re toying with you, watching like wolves as you writhe and bleed.
One man shakes his head, his face shadowed by the cowboy hat he wears. “Nah, we like to watch y’all burn.” He looks to his watch and then up at the sky. “Ain’t gon’ be much longer now.”
You can’t help looking as well, your eyes finding the ever lightening night sky. The stars have been chased away, the moon laying itself to rest on the other side of the earth. You can feel the threat of the sun as the air steadily warms, as time tick, tick, ticks away. If you had to guess, you have about thirty minutes left at most before yellow rays peak over the horizon line.
You force a swallow down your torn throat, your breathing stutters as panic kicks up in your chest. You figure seeing the sun in your final moments won’t be the worst thing, it has been seven years after all, but nobody wants to be burned alive. You don’t want to feel your skin cook and be engulfed by flames, you don’t want your last memory to be pain. Tears fall down your bloodstained cheeks without you realizing, dripping to the forest floor as your head hangs.
Then there’s a rustle in the trees beyond that makes your attention snap back up. That’s when you sense it, when the tiny hairs on the back of your neck rise. It’s like a blanket of eerie quiet was laid over the clearing, quieting any crickets or frogs or birds and leaving just the whispers of an old wind through the trees. There’s a flash of red, the familiar smell of ancient blood and earth hitting your nostrils. It’s an instant comfort.
Your own reaction has caused the hunters to become alert, clutching their guns a little tighter and looking into the trees. They don’t even realize what’s happening before the screams start.
The first man goes down—the first is always the easiest. The horses startle in turn, rearing up with loud, shrill whinnies that make the men on their backs shout. One falls off his beast while the other gets dragged from the saddle with a yell. The horses shake their heads and shriek before crashing into the forest, leaving their riders behind to get their throats torn open.
You could sob in relief at seeing Remmick, his claws extended and his fangs bared. He looks feral, his hair wild and his eyes wide and gleaming bright red. Blood coats his chin and his neck, staining the collar of his button up as he rips into his victims as messily as he pleases. The two men left got enough of their senses to try and fire their guns, to use the weapons they so carefully prepared. One wields a wooden stake and runs at Remmick who grabs the man’s wrists to prevent the stake from being buried into his heart.
They grapple briefly before the man is being slammed onto the ground with a terrifying ease, something within his body cracking. Claws are raked across his neck in a quick slash, urgency spurred by the cock of a gun, the sound of the shot being fired making you flinch as it rings through the clearing. It misses its target by just a hair and it’s unable to reload fast enough to prevent Remmick from jumping on the final hunter. The man goes down with a choked scream and you hear the familiar sounds of flesh being devoured and blood being drained. There’s only a sickly silence that follows.
All of the spilled blood has thick strings of drool dripping from the corners of your mouth, your hunger flaring up from the lack of food you’d gotten tonight and the exhaustion of struggling against the hunters. You lean forward instinctively, desperate for a taste, before the silver chains binding your body remind you of where you are. You jolt back with a whimper, pain biting into you tenfold.
Remmick’s head snaps up, those sinister red eyes finding you as the bloodlust and blind rage fades, as he seems to remember you. He’s up in an instant, hurrying over and flinching away with a snarl when he realizes what’s wrapped around your body. “Shit.” He spits angrily, doing it again when he looks to the horizon and sees the slow infiltration of the oranges and yellows of morning into the purples and blues of night. Ten minutes left.
“Rem- Remmick- please, please get me out- it hurts, Remmick, please.” You beg, your babbling words warbling with pain and emotion. You don’t want to be left behind, not again, not by him. It’d hurt more than the searing kiss of the sun.
“I ain’t leavin’ you, darlin’.” He says with finality through gritted teeth, even as every instinctual thing inside him whispers to leave you here to die, to save himself and let you be engulfed in the flames of your mistake. He circles behind you, taking a deep breath before beginning to tug at the chains, hissing as they burn the calloused skin on his hands. Despite the pain, they steadily come undone, dropping to the ground around you so you can finally take in a gasping breath.
“I told you to stay with me, didn’t I? Would it kill ya to listen for once?” Remmick snaps as he undoes the last of the chains around your legs, leaving you to stumble forward. You’re charred and covered in wounds, but now your body can finally begin to regenerate. You look a mess and you feel like one too, tears stinging the corners of your eyes as you struggle just to stay standing.
Before you can even get out an apology, he’s grabbing your wrist and tugging you with him. His own blood smears on your skin, the smell threatening to cloud your mind. “C’mon, or else well both be fried.” His tone is low and angry and focused, telling you to save whatever you need to say for later.
You eagerly follow him, doing your best to keep up as you both run to outrace the rising warmth of morning. Panic hangs heavy around you, knowing how quickly those final minutes tick by, feeling the heat licking at your heels. Your skin threatens to begin sizzling again, sweat gleaming on your forms.
But by the grace of some cursed god, it turns out the hunters had dragged you not too far from where you and Remmick have made your home in a tiny little house hidden in the trees. It’s temporary, of course, and you’ll no doubt be moving again after tonight, but in the moment it’s like finding a blessed sanctuary in the midst of damnation. You both fly up the porch steps and burst into your home just as the sun clears the horizon line, its beams filtering through the trees while you slam the door in its face.
You fall to your knees instantly, panting and heaving like a dog as your deep injuries throb and ooze. Your whole body is shaking, weak from a pain and hunger you haven’t experienced before. You can feel the ache in your teeth, the drool that still runs down your chin despite how many times you’ve wiped it away.
Remmick is less fazed, simply shrugging off his sweat and blood soaked button up and tossing it aside, his suspenders falling loose around his hips and leaving him in his once white tank. The thin gold chain around his neck glints in the dim lighting, a twin to the gold band on his ring finger. He’s cut it close enough times in his long past that he’s familiar with the sensation of the sun at his back, but he’s been more careful with you. He makes sure to have you both fed and back with time to spare, but everything seemed to go wrong tonight. Though, he supposes the scare was probably good for you. Teach you not to wander off again.
He looks idly at his hands, at the blisters that are already beginning to fade. He’s always healed pretty fast, while you on the other hand aren’t as fortunate. The scent of your blood fills his nose, fills the room of the house. You’re both lucky his hunger was satiated earlier, otherwise he’d be on you like a leech. Even after he turned you, your blood stayed just as mouthwatering, just as delicious to something twisted inside of him. It proved to him that you were something different, something he’d been searching for without really knowing it.
“Are you upset with me?” You sniffle, quite pathetic really. But it’s been a long while since you’ve felt this much shame and embarrassment, and your body doesn’t quite know what to do with it besides force it out through tears.
Remmick stands in silence with his thoughts for a moment more before he sighs, defeated. “I ain’t angry with ya, sugar. Just worried, is all.” He turns, his steps marked by the too-soft thud of boots against hardwood. You see the toes of his shoes in your vision, but you still can’t make yourself lift your head, to look at him—so he does it for you. He crouches down, taking your face in his hand, making you meet his eyes. “Fuck, darlin’, they almost killed you.”
You can see the concern etched onto his eternally young face, the memory of seeing you chained in silver and presented like a sacrifice to the morning sun. You can’t even begin to understand the fear he’d felt; hearing all the commotion far off in the woods, hearing your screams and hoping he ran fast enough to reach you. He could smell the way your blood poured from your body, the way it burned under your confines. He’d sensed your terror too, your emotions sitting just behind his own like a second pair, locked together by a bond too ancient to be understood. You’d called out to him without your voice and he answered without a second thought.
Oh, how he’d raged seeing you against that tree, begging your captors for a quick death. Your face was covered in tears and blood, you’d looked to the horizon with a mixture of acceptance and panic, something he’s seen plenty of times before. He never should have let it happen, should have known to keep you closer, should have known you were still too young into this and got too excited over fresh meat. Hell, he didn’t even know how you managed to sneak off but he’d looked away for one damn minute and then you were gone. He’d been a fool to trust that you’d come back before a gunshot rang through the forest.
Killing those men was one of the easier things he’s done. Remmick barely even registered their deaths, the only thought in his mind being eliminating any threats to you and getting some food out of it as well. Their wards and stakes and silver bullets did nothing to deter him, they were weak and weightless—the opposite of the other hunters he’s come across, the ones with real strength. No, those men were new and ultimately inexperienced, and yet still stupidly dangerous.
He’d worry about them later. They’re dead and gone while you’re still bleeding and sniffling in front of him.
You lean into his touch like a cat, desperate for comfort. “Yer starvin’, ain’t ‘cha?” He murmurs, running his thumb along your cheek. He can see it clear as day in your gleaming eyes, the drool that won’t stop, and the way your wounds are refusing to close because you don’t have enough sustenance. You nod sadly, your head bowed while tears of frustration burn behind your eyelids. Remmick is quick to wipe them away. “Shh, don’t cry, sugar. You’ll be alright. You got food right here.”
You look at him with confusion before seeing the way he’s presented his thick forearm to you, underside up. Your eyes widen and you almost jump immediately at the opportunity, your teeth aching painfully and hunger howling within you. He nods his head towards his arm. “Go on, darlin’. You know I wouldn’t let ya go hungry.”
You sit up, acting on autopilot as you grip his arm in both of your hands, your drool dripping onto his skin before your teeth sink in. Blood immediately comes to the surface of the puncture wounds, and you take every drop you’re offered. The iron-sweet tang on your tongue instantly brings out your hunger tenfold, your fangs digging even deeper into the soft skin. Remmick makes a low noise, something between a groan and a grunt, watching with satisfaction as you take from him.
It’s rare when he lets you do this. Typically there’s enough food for the both of you, enough to keep you happily satiated until the next time that primordial hunger comes knocking. But sometimes there’s nights when the hunt fails, nights like tonight when the need to feast is bad enough to kill you if it’s left too long, when you need to rely on your last resort. However, no matter what, Remmick will never let his lady go hungry.
The age of Remmick’s blood blooms in your mouth, rich with an aftertaste of ancient iron and old, hidden stories. Only people like you would know how much you can learn from someone’s blood, from the life force of their body. The whispers of the lives they led running along your tongue as you feast, the emotions they held within hopes and dreams. It’s fascinating, and it was something Remmick was eager to show you when you were first turned, teaching you the crimson stained wonders of being what he is.
You relish the feeling of his blood flowing through you, working to heal the wounds littering your body. His other hand rests firmly on the back of your neck, his fingers occasionally squeezing and letting you feel the pricks of his claws that have begun to slide from their sheaths. He keeps you there, encouraging you to take and take and take.
You eventually pull back, twisting out of his hold on you and releasing his bloody arm with a pop. Your breath comes as pants through your open mouth, blood staining your lips and teeth, the gleam having returned to your eyes. Your bites have always been cleaner than Remmick’s, less gruesome and destructive, leaving his forearm with tiny wounds that will heal quickly. The sight of red beading from them still makes you salivate but it’s easier to reel yourself in now, dragging your hunger back by a leash around its neck to keep it from going rabid. It allows your fangs and claws to be more willing to retract, your mind no longer running in restless, desperate circles around the concept of food.
You notice the way Remmick has been looking at you, full of some type of reverence mixed with relief, you think. Relief at the fact you’re not a sniveling, bleeding mess on the floor anymore, your usual shine quickly coming back. Your wounds have stitched themselves back together, bone no longer showing and just the outermost layers still being torn and burnt. It makes you feel like you can breathe again, every movement free of the horrible agony.
“C’mere.” Remmick says, voice dropping a few levels as he continues staring at your blood stained mouth. He pulls you in before you even have the chance to sit up properly, your lips meeting in a clash of tongues and teeth. He groans when he tastes his own blood on you, practically taking it from you with the way he licks you. You gasp against him as he fully invades your space, your back hitting the wooden door so that there’s nowhere else to go, his body effectively caging you in. His hands easily roam over your form, knowing every inch and detail with the precision of a man who’s explored them a hundred times before.
Hands come to rest on your waist and before you know it, you’re being hoisted up with a startled noise that Remmick quickly swallows with a kiss. His muscled biceps flex as he easily holds you against him, your legs coming to wrap around his hips and your hands gripping at his shoulders for purchase. You’re carried upstairs with a newfound urgency, Remmick kicking open the bedroom door and roughly laying you onto the soft sheets of a bed that used to belong to somebody else—before you two took over, of course.
Blood, sweat, and dirt immediately stain the covers beneath you, smearing across the fabric as you move. It’s nothing new, this happens just about every time you return from an exhilarating hunt. You both barely ever have the foresight to wash off first before climbing into bed together. Remmick follows after you, your hands resting on either side of his face to draw him in, never wanting to be apart for too long. His fingers pull at the shirt that was tucked into your pants that are too big on you, the ones you always wear on a hunt that are now ruined by the burn marks of silver chains.
His touch is always just on the side of too cold, a consequence of being undead, the same one that you suffer from. It’s something you were quick to grow used to, along with the way his temperature fluctuates depending on how much fresh blood he has coursing through him. His ring bites like ice beneath your shirt as he eases it up and over your body, tossing it somewhere into a corner to be picked up later.
“Mm, Remmick..” you mumble, your hands coming up to run through his short black hair, his bangs plastered to his forehead with sweat. His bloody chain dangles from his sternum, hanging just above you like a taunt.
“I know, sugar.” He responds, feeling the way your legs rub together beneath him, your body quivering with anticipation. His kisses trail from your lips to your jaw, then to your neck, past the spot where he bit you all those years ago. He licks away stains of the dried blood remaining from your sealed injuries, groaning like an animal at the taste that leaves him drooling.
Saliva smears across your skin on his way down your body, stopping briefly at your breasts. He takes a nipple into his mouth, swirling it against his tongue and teasing it between his thankfully normal teeth as you arch into him, little breathy moans and gasps tumbling out of you. He envelops the other breast in his calloused hand, squeezing and rolling the soft flesh between his fingers. “So beautiful… so good fer me, sugar.” He murmurs against you, his nose nudging at the space between your breasts where more blood has dried. It doesn’t take long for him to clean it off.
He makes quick work of your pants, undoing the buttons deftly and lifting your hips to tug them free. His hands run along your thighs lovingly, goosebumps rising in his wake. He straightens, red eyes roving over your now exposed body with appreciation. Drool beads at the corners of his lips, steadily building and running down his chin while you smile at him.
“Pretty thing, all fer me.” Remmick says it like a confirmation and a vow, even though he needs none. There’s nothing that could separate you two besides a stake through the heart or the sun’s warmth. You gave yourself to him completely the day you let him bite you, let him take your life and forge it into something new, something unholy and damned.
“All yours.” You agree, stretching your arms above your head like a cat. You give him a sly grin. “Now stop teasing.”
His eyebrows shoot up, a deep chuckle leaving him, even as he hooks his fingers beneath your underwear and tugs it off. “Always impatient, huh?”
You hum as he kneels, his strong arms coming up to wrap around your thighs and settle them nicely on his wide shoulders. “I just know how good you feel. Can’t a girl be excited?”
Remmick smirks, huffing a laugh. “Shoot, I don’t see why not.”
His breath fans across your cunt, already wet and glistening with your arousal. The red in his eyes smolders like coals, burning brighter with his desire as he looks at you like you’re his next meal. He leans in, that first connection acting like lightning shooting through you, your body arching and mouth falling open. His tongue licks between your folds, collecting your slick and dragging it up to your clit where he toys with the bud, circling it with little flicks and pecks while you moan above him.
Remmick sucks your clit into his mouth, the rest of you immediately responding in turn as you jolt from the pleasure. He knows how to play you like his banjo, how to keep you easy and pliant while he works you to climax. He knows your body like it’s his own, the bond you share allowing him to hold a presence within you, to tell your emotions and thoughts. Most of all, he knows how you like to be licked, his tongue dipping into your hole as your noises raise a pitch.
“Remmick.. fuck-“ You moan, hands coming down to run through his hair, tugging after a particularly harsh kiss to your clit. He groans into your pussy, the sound reverberating through you as he swallows down your arousal with an eagerness he doesn’t even display during feedings. His drool makes your cunt shine, mixing with your slick to the point you don’t know where he ends and you begin.
He practically buries himself into your cunt, licking and kissing and taking whatever you have to offer. His hands are like vices on your thighs, the unmistakable tips of his claws occasionally pricking your skin as they again slide from their nail beds with his excitement. You can feel the way pleasure courses through you, tightening your muscles and creating a familiar knot in your lower abdomen that will steadily build until it’s ready to come loose. It won’t be long with the way Remmick eats you like he hasn’t had a meal in years.
His nose nudges at your clit, his tongue circling your hole before slipping inside, collecting the wetness you continually drip for him. You whine loudly, pulling harder at the black strands of his hair, your thighs attempting to clench around his head. “Shit- feels so good Rem, fuck-“ You curse, falling back against the pillows, chest heaving.
You writhe under his ministrations, his hands having to move up to your hips just to keep you still, his biceps flexing against your legs. He knows how close you are so he ramps it up, licking from your center to your clit and drawing it into his mouth, his brows furrowed in concentration. Your moans and whimpers are music to his ears, listening to the way you call his name with a breathy gasp as he makes you cum.
It crashes over you like a wave, that knot coming undone and pleasure wracking your body. Remmick drinks it all, not letting a single drop of it go to waste as his eyes burn red. He’s quick to slip a hand between your legs, two fingers sinking into the plush heat of your pussy, his claws sheathed just for now. He pumps them in and out while you ride through your orgasm, scissoring your gummy walls to stretch you even further. He doesn’t let up, even as you grab at him to try and get him off, the attention bordering on overstimulation. He continues to kiss at your clit all the while, his fingers and his mouth bringing you straight into another orgasm that has you seeing white.
Every nerve in your body feels like it’s on fire, overly sensitive and leaving your legs twitching. Remmick licks you clean with as much care and diligence a man like him can muster, his fanged teeth occasionally scraping against you and making you shudder. His fingers slip out of your warmth covered in your cum, your walls fluttering and aching at the emptiness that you know won’t last long.
He finally releases your thighs, letting them fall from his shoulders as he lifts himself from between your legs. The lower half of his face is covered in a shiny mixture of drool, cum, and blood, making him look all sorts of a mess. You couldn’t care less, knowing that no matter what he does, it’s going to be a little messy—and you love that about him.
He slowly makes his way back up your body, kissing from your clavicle to your ribs, to your breasts, and then up the column of your neck before at last reaching your lips. You’re eager to kiss him, hands tugging at his shoulders to pull him in, keeping him as close as possible. You taste yourself on his tongue, along with a familiar iron tang that has your hunger flaring again. You pull away only to lick along his chin, eagerly collecting the bloody mixture until there’s none left. Your fangs released without you even realizing.
“Yer still hungry.” He says it as a statement rather than a question, seeing the blatant craving in your dazed eyes, feeling it within himself as if it was his own. You’ve tried to subdue it all this time, not wanting to take more than you’re allowed, but it still makes your stomach clench, your teeth ache. Your body is too weak to resist the pangs, still too busy patching up whatever damage can’t be seen externally. Remmick coos at you, “c’mon, s’okay. You don’t have to hide it from me.”
You begin to protest, your more human sensibility allowing guilt to take charge. “You already gave me-“
He shakes his head, silencing you. “Sugar, ya won’t last long if yer starvin’. I think I ate enough for the both of us anyhow.” You think back to all those dead hunters in that clearing, their bodies strewn along the forest floor and their blood splattered on the grass like paint. You can still smell their foreign iron-laced scents on Remmick, and it only serves to make you crave more. Drool falls down your chin, and he just smiles knowingly. His head tilts, the skin on his neck becoming taut as he bares it to you. “C’mon now.”
There’s a singular moment of hesitation, where you look into those red gleaming eyes of his for a type of confirmation, and all you find is that he’s just watching you expectantly. Well, if a meal’s going to be served to you on a silver platter like this, you’d do good to take it.
Your jaw goes slack, your teeth sharp and ready, before your body lunges up to latch onto his neck. As the first drops hit your tongue, he grunts, his form falling over yours while he wraps an arm swiftly around your waist so you can both fall back onto the bed. His other hand slams down next to your head while his blood fills your mouth and you gulp it down like there won’t be a tomorrow.
Being fed on is always jarring for Remmick, his body still not used to it after the centuries of him being the only one to feast. His neck is so much different than his arm, he realizes, something dangerous being set off within him this time as a result. But it turns out he’d do just about anything for you, so he makes himself ease into the sensation, even as his claws dig into the bedsheets and his fanged teeth grind together hard enough to shatter, the primal part of him fearing that, for once, he’s being preyed on.
“That’s it, sugar.” He says with a husky laugh. “Shit.”
Past the initial shock, it’s easy for the pain to shift into pleasure. It is quite erotic, really, the way he can feel his own blood coursing through your body. The little noises you make while you feed on him, the trickles of blood mixing with spit on your chin, your strength returning all because of him. It fills him with a twisted sense of pride, knowing that he’s the one satiating that bone deep hunger, knowing his blood is mixing with yours and becoming one inside you. “Take it all, darlin’, suck me dry.” He groans, the tips of his claws making little pinpricks in your sides as he holds onto you.
It’s almost involuntary, the way his hips rut against you, his cock straining in his pants and demanding attention. It has his hands fumbling between your bodies, eager to undo the thick buckle of his belt with a clink, the buttons of his trousers following after. You nearly choke on his blood when you feel his shaft rubbing between your folds, coating himself in the mixture of your cum and his drool. He does a few slow, experimental thrusts, not sinking in just yet but simply feeling you instead. It has you groaning against his neck, your teeth digging in deeper and greedily drinking at the ambrosia that is Remmick’s blood while he pants above you.
You release him with a sharp gasp when the head of his cock catches your entrance, at last pressing in with slippery ease. His moan is throaty and guttural, a shiver running through him at the way your walls draw him in, enveloping him in plush warmth. He sheathes himself completely and he stays with his hips flush to yours for just a moment, allowing himself to enjoy the initial pleasure. It amazes you how he never gets tired of it, even after his centuries of being alive and his years of fucking you.
You pull him back down with hands on either side of his face, encouraging him to kiss you. He does, of course, his mouth enveloping yours just as he begins to thrust, drawing almost completely from your cunt before slamming back in. His tongue roves over yours, licking away any remnants of his blood and swallowing down your moans. He pulls away with his chest heaving, a sharp groan falling from his open mouth, fangs on full display just beneath his lips.
There’s a sudden wetness against your collarbones that makes you jolt, looking down to see blood from Remmick’s neck splattered along your skin. The wound you’d bitten into him is still bleeding, droplets coming loose with his thrusts and the way he’s bent over you. He smirks, lifting two fingers and drawing them over the bite marks, collecting the blood smeared there. “Clean up yer mess, sugar.” He tells you between breathy pants, bringing his fingers to your mouth.
You take them eagerly, swirling the pads against your tongue, licking off every bit of blood and enjoying the earthly, metal taste. He watches you in awe, his eyes burning bright red in the dim lighting, full of adoration and reverence and desire. Your spit coats his fingers generously, leaving them shiny when you let go with a wet smack. He buries his head into the side of your neck with a disbelieving chuckle that quickly morphs into a moan, his hot breath fanning across your skin as your hands clutch at his bloodied white tank.
You use the opportunity to mouth at the bite on his throat like an animal, like a cat grooming its mate. You whine suddenly when he hits that spot at the top of your core, the one that has you keening and pleasure sparking like lightning beneath your skin. “Fu-fuck, Remmick-“ You mewl, claws digging into the expanse of his back, even through the tank. He growls appreciatively at the pain, at the red, angry lines undoubtedly rising along his skin and beading with blood.
Remmick nips hungrily at your neck, his hands digging harshly into your sides. He’s practically laid over top of you while he thrusts his cock deep into your throbbing pussy, keeping you as close as possible. There’s something possessive and raw about it, about the way he breathes you in, clutching at you desperately, biting you as if to prove you’re there.
“Ain’t never lettin’ you out of my sight again. Nearly fuckin’ lost ya.” He snarls with a groan, his claws digging in a little deeper at the memories of what happened just hours prior. Though your body no longer holds proof of it, he won’t forget anytime soon. He’ll chain you to him if he has to, just to make sure you’re safe.
“I- I know- I’m sorry-“ You say, moans stuttering with the way his hips slam into you, fueled by his declaration and the feral desires that howl a constant song within him. It’s not often that Remmick reveals any kind of vulnerability to you, instead letting you guess at it based on what you can gather from the bond you share. But it seems the very real idea of you bound in silver and burning brought it out of him, even if only a little.
You’re both nearing release, the pleasure burning in your core while his movements grow choppy and uneven. The noises he makes change, becoming breathy at the edges as his brows furrow, his nose nudging at your jaw. “Rem- Remmick- shit-“ You whine, feeling the way you’re so close to tumbling off the edge.
“I got ‘cha, sugar.” He says, voice rumbling right next to your ear. One hand comes between you, his calloused fingers finding your clit and swirling it in hurried circles, your mouth falling open and your eyes pinching shut as your muscles tense. His response is near instant, his free hand pinching your chin like a reminder, “nuh-uh, look at me, darlin’.”
You have no choice but to oblige him, meeting his gaze through tear stained lashes. You learned quickly how obsessed he is with seeing your face, seeing your eyes. No matter what position you’re in, he’ll make sure he can still see you or else you’ll find yourself flipped around to rectify it. You think he does it as a way to ground himself, a near impossible feat in an immortal body that’s hundreds of years old. You let him use you as an anchor, keeping him tethered here with you, two lonely souls finding company in one another.
It feels like all the breath gets knocked from your lungs as your third orgasm overtakes you. You whimper and whine and moan Remmick’s name, your hands scrabbling at him desperately. The way your cunt spasms around him makes him quick to follow after you with a loud curse, his cum hot as it paints your walls white, filling you to the brim with him. He rides out his high, emptying every last drop into you with small jerks of his hips and soft words, encouraging you to take it all.
“Fuck, sugar, yer somethin’ else.” Remmick pants, muscled chest heaving, straightening just a little to look at you in your fucked-out state. Hair wild, skin flushed, looking almost human if it weren’t for the unholy gleam in your eyes. There’s sticky trails of blood and spit all along your forms, remnants of both the hunt and your copulation. It’s made a further mess of the sheets below you, but quite frankly, you’re too tired to care.
He slowly pulls out with a groan, cum dribbling from your abused hole with his cock no longer there to keep you plugged full. You wince at the feeling, your energy spent and your body rightfully exhausted. As much as Remmick would love to keep you ruined with the reminders of what he did to you, he knows how you hate sleeping while sticky—and he needs you to be able to rest. He gently pries himself from you, even as you continuously try to wrap your arms around him again. “I’ll be right back, darlin’.” He promises, finally getting free despite your grumbling.
He gets a washcloth from the bathroom, wetting it with warm water before returning. Your arms are open for him, welcoming him back into your embrace so you can feel him against you, so you can feel complete. He holds you like something precious, cleans you like you’re made of delicate glass. He wipes the blood off with no issue, his appetite blissfully satiated for now, and he’s gentle between your legs, this routine so familiar that he could do it with his eyes closed. You go limp from his touch, your body pliant beneath him. He kisses you more than once, unable to help himself when you bask so nicely in the afterglow.
When he’s finished, Remmick tosses the cloth absently into a corner somewhere, followed by his bloody tank that joins his button up on the floor to be washed later. He then settles into a non-soiled part of the bed, sitting back against the headboard and easily pulling you on top of him. You simply follow wherever his hands want you to go, more than happy to relax in his lap with your head pressed to his bare chest and his thick arms enveloping you. His scent floods your nose—sweat, iron, dirt, and old leather, making you hum appreciatively.
“My sweet girl,” Remmick murmurs against your hair, his hand running along your back in soothing lines. He pulls one of the spare quilts free and wraps it around you and you nestle into its comfort, the heavy material soft against your bare skin. You nuzzle against Remmick, too tired to resist fully giving in to those base desires for warmth and safety, knowing he’ll give you exactly that. There’s a kiss pressed to your forehead. “Rest. Y’need it.”
“You’ll still be here?” You mumble, barely able to muster a sentence, eyes already beginning to shut. Sometimes there’s days when you need that extra confirmation, his promise that he won’t leave you behind, that he’ll still be waiting for you by the time you wake up. You feel his grip on you tighten, just for a moment.
“‘Course I will, sugar. I ain’t ever leavin’.”

The Weight of It All
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: Jackson!Joel Miller x Reader
summary: You’ve been hiding your sickness—and the truth—from Joel for weeks. But when a pregnancy test confirms your fears, the weight of it becomes too much to bear. Telling him risks reopening old wounds… but keeping it secret might break you both.

My Masterlist
Tumblr media
You’ve been sick for days. Maybe longer.
It started as something small—dull headaches, a little nausea in the mornings, that tight ache behind your ribs when you stood too fast. Nothing worth bringing up. Not with Joel. Not when he already worries too much.
You’d blamed it on stress. On the cold. On whatever dried meat Maria had handed you from the trade post. But it hasn’t gone away. It’s gotten worse.
Today, it hits harder than usual. Your stomach twists before your eyes even open. You lie in bed, curled on your side, one hand pressed to your mouth, breathing shallowly through your nose.
Joel’s already up. You hear him in the kitchen—footsteps creaking across the floorboards, the soft clink of silverware, the low grumble of the stove catching. You try to move, but the moment you sit up, your body rebels.
You make it to the bathroom just in time.
You vomit hard, clutching the edge of the sink like it might keep you tethered. Cold sweat beads on your neck, your spine prickling with heat and nausea and panic.
It’s not the first time this week.
And still, you haven’t told him.
By the time you pull yourself together, Joel’s voice is already calling down the hallway.
“Breakfast’s ready. You up?”
You splash water on your face and don’t answer right away. You can’t. Your reflection in the mirror looks pale, your lips chapped. You stare at yourself a moment too long.
Then you step into the hallway like nothing’s wrong.
He doesn’t question you.
He never does at first.
Joel’s at the stove, dividing up the food onto two plates. It’s not much—just scrambled eggs and a toasted slice of bread—but he’s humming under his breath like he’s proud of it. You try to sit down without making a face. The smell turns your stomach.
“Didn’t hear you get up,” he says, voice low and easy. “Sleep okay?”
You nod. Lie.
He sets the plate in front of you. You force yourself to eat a few bites, chewing carefully, swallowing around the nausea.
“You sure you’re not gettin’ sick?” he asks after a while, studying you. “You’ve been lookin’ a little… off.”
You shake your head too quickly. “No, just tired. Stomach’s been weird. Probably a bug or something.”
He doesn’t push. Just narrows his eyes, then reaches over to squeeze your thigh under the table. A quiet gesture. Comforting. You wish it didn’t make your chest ache.
You don’t talk much after that. Joel launches into something about a new gate they’re reinforcing on the east wall, and you nod along, trying not to gag every time you lift your fork. You excuse yourself early and claim a headache. He offers to make tea. You say no.
By the time you crawl back into bed, you’re already crying.
Tumblr media
The test isn’t something you went looking for. Not really.
It’s tucked in the back of your dresser, hidden beneath a pair of old gloves and a cracked mirror you meant to throw away. You remember Maria handing it to you months ago, half-joking—“Just in case.” You’d laughed then. Said something sarcastic. Stuffed it in the drawer and forgot.
But you find it now.
Hands shaking.
Heart pounding.
You stare at the little plastic thing like it’s a weapon.
You haven’t had your period in… shit. You count on your fingers. At least two months. Maybe more. You try to remember when the last time was and come up blank. Just nausea and headaches and crying over stupid things like burnt toast and Joel leaving his damn flannel on the floor again.
You sit on the edge of the bed and peel the wrapper back slowly.
The directions are smeared but readable. You follow them. You take the test.
You wait.
Two minutes feels like an hour.
You pace the room, bare feet cold against the floor, every breath too shallow, too loud. You’re not ready for this. You can’t be. You’ve been careful. Joel’s older. You thought…
You glance at the stick.
Two pink lines.
Clear as day.
No denying it. No maybes. No confusion.
You’re pregnant.
You sink to the floor and cry so hard your throat burns.
It’s not that you don’t want a baby.
It’s that you don’t know how to have one. Not here. Not in this world. And not with Joel, not after everything he’s been through. After everything he’s lost.
You think about Sarah. The photo he keeps in his coat pocket. The way he still gets quiet when kids are nearby. The way he looks at you sometimes—like he’s waiting for you to vanish, too.
He hasn’t said her name in months.
But you see it in his eyes.
You press your hands to your stomach. Try to imagine what’s inside. Try to make it feel real.
And it does.
Terrifyingly real.
But you don’t tell him.
Not that night. Not the next. Not the week after.
You keep pretending.
Keep hiding.
Keep waking up sick and saying it’s nothing.
Because you love him too much to ruin this.
And you’re afraid—so afraid—that this will be the thing that finally breaks him.
Tumblr media
You don’t remember when it stopped being something you could ignore.
Maybe it was when your nausea turned into full-blown vomiting every other morning. Maybe it was the way your body started to ache differently—heavier, tender in places it hadn’t been before. Or maybe it was the way Joel kept watching you when he thought you weren’t looking.
You try to keep up the act. Try to smile when he brushes your hair behind your ear. Try to laugh when he mutters something sarcastic about Jackson politics or how damn cold it still is. You sit with him by the fire at night, listening to the quiet crackle of the wood, letting him rest his hand on your thigh like nothing’s changed.
But everything’s changed.
You’ve got a secret growing inside you. One you didn’t ask for. One you still don’t know how to feel about.
And it’s eating you alive.
You start waking up before Joel does, slipping quietly out of bed to vomit or dry heave into the toilet, chewing your lip to keep from crying out. You brush your teeth in silence. Splash cold water on your face. Sit on the edge of the tub until the spinning stops.
By the time he’s awake, you’re already wrapped in a blanket on the couch, pretending to read a book you haven’t turned the page on in three days.
“You sure you’re not comin’ down with somethin’?” Joel asks again that morning, a mug of tea in his hand instead of coffee. “You’ve been… quiet.”
“I’m just tired.”
He gives you a look.
You try to change the subject. “What time you heading out with Tommy today?”
Joel doesn’t answer right away. Just hands you the mug. It’s chamomile. Your favorite. He’s trying. It makes your heart ache.
“I could stay,” he says slowly, sitting down beside you. “Ain’t nothin’ urgent. We were just gonna check the perimeter out past the ridge.”
“No, it’s okay,” you say too quickly. “I’m fine. Go.”
His jaw tightens a little. Not in frustration—more like… uncertainty. Like he doesn’t quite believe you but doesn’t know how to press without making things worse.
He kisses your forehead before he leaves.
You cry as soon as the door shuts.
You wander out later, needing air, even though the snow’s still packed in frozen ridges along the path outside the cabin. The sky is overcast, the wind sharp enough to sting your cheeks. You wrap Joel’s flannel tighter around you—he left it behind again this morning—and follow the half-trodden trail into the woods behind the cabin.
No one follows.
No one knows.
You find the edge of the treeline, the big flat rock you sometimes sit on in warmer months. You stand there now, breath puffing out in clouds, staring down at your gloved hands like they might hold an answer.
You fish the test out of your coat pocket.
You’ve been carrying it with you. You don’t know why.
Two pink lines, clear as ever.
You could throw it into the snow. You think about it—feel the urge in your fingers, the burst of anger that’s starting to rise like bile. You want to throw it, scream, crush it beneath your boot, pretend this isn’t happening.
But you don’t.
You sit.
And you hold it.
And you cry again.
That night, Joel makes soup. He tries not to burn it this time. You sit at the table and pretend to eat, smiling when he cracks a joke about the carrots being too soft. You’re exhausted, not just physically but from the weight of pretending.
“Was Maria askin’ about you today?” Joel says casually, handing you a piece of crusty bread. “Said she hadn’t seen you in a while.”
“Just been tired.”
“She said you should stop by.”
“I will.”
You won’t.
Joel leans back in his chair, watching you. “You know you can tell me if somethin’s wrong, right?”
You freeze.
He says it so gently, it almost breaks you. No suspicion in his voice, just quiet concern. The kind he only shows when he thinks you’re about to run—or when he is.
You want to tell him. You do.
But fear clamps down hard on your throat.
What if he looks at you and sees a mistake?
What if he looks at you and sees Sarah?
What if this is the thing that makes him leave?
You force a smile. “I know.”
Joel looks like he wants to say more. But he doesn’t.
He just reaches for your hand across the table and holds it in his calloused palm.
And you grip it like it’s the only solid thing keeping you from unraveling.
-
The nightmares come next.
You dream of blood. Of silence. Of holding something small and helpless and watching it disappear. You wake up gasping, clutching your stomach. Joel stirs beside you but doesn’t wake, and you’re glad. You don’t want him to see you like this.
You start wearing looser clothes. You start avoiding the mirror. You start skipping dinner.
Joel notices. Of course he does. He’s not stupid.
“Did I do somethin’?” he asks one night, voice quiet against your shoulder.
You’re in bed, turned away from him, pretending to be asleep. His fingers brush your arm.
“You’ve been distant.”
You say nothing. Your throat tightens.
“I ain’t mad,” he adds. “Just worried.”
You bite your lip so hard you taste blood.
“I love you, y’know,” Joel murmurs. “Even when you shut down like this.”
That’s the moment your heart breaks.
Because you realize what you’re doing isn’t fair. Not to him. Not to yourself. Not to the tiny life you’re carrying inside you.
But you’re still not ready.
Not yet.
You nod into the pillow, blinking tears onto the fabric.
“Love you too.”
A week passes.
Maybe more.
You lose track of time, counting your life in nausea and guilt and half-eaten meals. Joel never says it out loud, but you can see it in the way he watches you—like he’s trying to solve a puzzle without all the pieces.
You think about telling him every night.
You rehearse the words. I’m pregnant. I didn’t know how to tell you. I’m scared.
But when you open your mouth, nothing comes.
Until finally… it does.
Tumblr media
You don’t plan to tell him that night.
It’s the same as every other evening lately. Joel gets back late from patrol, shedding his coat and boots at the door with a tired grunt. You’re already in the kitchen, stirring soup that smells better than it tastes. You’re still too nauseous to eat more than a few bites, but you pretend for his sake.
He doesn’t notice.
Or maybe he does. Maybe he’s just waiting.
The table is quiet as you both eat. Joel hums under his breath between spoonfuls, something familiar—an old Johnny Cash tune, maybe. He thanks you like always. Tells you it’s good even though it’s barely seasoned.
After dinner, he offers to wash up, and you let him. Your hands won’t stop shaking anyway.
You find him in bed later, shirtless and reading something he borrowed from Tommy—a survival manual someone dug up from the library. He doesn’t look up when you enter. Just shifts a little to make room for you under the quilt, reaching out to rest a warm hand on your hip when you slide in beside him.
You lie there stiffly.
Heart pounding.
Stomach twisting.
“You’re awful quiet,” he murmurs after a while, voice rough from sleep already creeping in.
You swallow. “Just tired.”
“Mm.” He turns slightly, fingers idly stroking the hem of your shirt. “You been sayin’ that a lot lately.”
You tense.
“I—” Your voice cracks. “Yeah.”
Joel doesn’t push. Not right away. He just keeps tracing slow circles on your skin, quiet and patient, like he’s waiting for something you’re not sure you know how to give.
And then—
“Been thinkin’…” he says slowly. “Maybe you oughta see that doctor Maria keeps fussin’ about. Just in case.”
You flinch. He feels it.
“I’m fine,” you say quickly, too quickly.
Joel rolls onto his side to face you, propping himself up on one elbow. His brow furrows, and the concern there nearly guts you.
“You’ve been sick almost every damn day,” he says gently. “You ain’t eatin’. You’re pale. You cry at soup commercials.”
You bark a laugh that dissolves into a sob before you can stop it.
Joel’s expression shifts. Alarmed now. He sits up fully, cupping your face in both hands. “Hey—hey. What’s wrong?”
You shake your head, curling into yourself. “I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“What—? Sweetheart, talk to me. What’s goin’ on?”
You squeeze your eyes shut.
And finally—finally—you say it.
“I’m pregnant.”
Silence.
Not shocked. Not gasped or cursed.
Just… silence.
You feel him go still, like every muscle has locked up at once. His hands fall from your face.
You don’t look at him.
“I found the test a couple weeks ago,” you say, words tumbling now, rushed and raw. “I thought it was a stomach bug, or something I ate, but then it didn’t stop. And I remembered Maria gave me that test a while back and I just—fuck, I didn’t mean for this to happen, Joel. I didn’t mean to do this to you.”
“To me?”
Your breath catches.
Joel’s voice is low. Barely above a whisper. You finally glance at him.
He looks shell-shocked. Not angry. Not even upset. Just… wrecked. His eyes are wide, jaw tight, like he’s trying to keep something inside from breaking loose.
“I didn’t know how to tell you,” you whisper. “After everything. After Sarah. I didn’t want to hurt you.”
Joel doesn’t answer right away. He just stares at the blanket bunched around his waist, like it might offer an explanation he can’t find in your words.
“I thought you’d leave,” you admit softly. “Or worse—I thought you’d stay, but you’d hate me for it.”
Joel blinks slowly. “You really think that little of me?”
“No.” You wipe your eyes. “No, I just—I know what this means for you. I know what it could bring back.”
Joel’s breath hitches. He leans back against the headboard, one hand dragging over his face. The silence stretches between you like a rope pulled taut.
“I ain’t mad,” he says finally.
You flinch.
“I ain’t,” he repeats, quieter this time. “Just… I need a second.”
You nod. Curl your knees to your chest. You try not to cry again, but your chest won’t stop heaving, your hands won’t stop trembling.
Joel stays where he is for a long time. Not speaking. Not touching you.
But he doesn’t leave.
And somehow, that’s what breaks you the most.
Tumblr media
Ten minutes pass. Maybe twenty.
Then Joel shifts.
He reaches for you slowly, hesitantly, and when you don’t pull away, he pulls you into his arms.
You bury your face in his chest and let yourself fall apart.
He holds you through all of it. Lets you sob until your voice goes hoarse, rubbing your back and whispering nothing-words you barely register.
When you finally quiet, he kisses the top of your head.
“You should’ve told me,” he says, not angry. Just aching.
“I was scared.”
“I know.” He sighs against your temple. “So was I.”
You blink. “You?”
Joel nods, pulling back just enough to look at you. His eyes are wet, rimmed with red.
“I knew somethin’ was off. Knew it wasn’t just the weather or the food. I kept thinkin’ about what it could be, and I… I think I knew. I just didn’t wanna be the one to say it.”
“Why?”
He swallows hard. “Because if I said it, it’d be real. And if it’s real, it can be lost.”
Your breath catches.
He cups your face again, thumb brushing your cheek.
“But I’m not walkin’ away,” he says, voice rough but certain. “Not from you. Not from this.”
You close your eyes.
“Joel—”
“I don’t know how to do this,” he admits, whisper soft. “But I want to try. If you want this… I want it too.”
You nod, tears slipping down your cheeks.
“I do. I really do.”
He pulls you into his chest again and kisses your hair like it’s the only thing keeping him upright.
“You’re not alone,” he says.
And this time, you believe him.
You wake to the sound of rain tapping against the window.
It’s still dark, the kind of blue-black quiet that only settles in just before dawn. Joel’s arm is wrapped around your middle, his chest pressed warm and steady to your back, one hand splayed low over your stomach like he already knows what’s growing there.
Maybe he does.
He hasn’t moved all night.
You lie still for a while, not quite ready to break the spell. The room is quiet, the fire low in the hearth, the storm outside soft but persistent. You can hear his breathing behind you—slow, even, calmer than you’ve heard it in days.
It’s the first time you’ve really slept in weeks. The first time you haven’t woken up sick with dread curling through your spine. There’s fear, still. Of course there is. But it’s quieter now. Outweighed by something else.
Something that feels a little like hope.
Tumblr media
Joel stirs not long after, mumbling sleep-drunk nonsense against your neck.
You hum softly, shifting to face him. His eyes crack open, still heavy with sleep. You expect him to look tense. Uncertain. But he doesn’t.
He looks soft.
His thumb brushes your hip. “Mornin’.”
“Hi,” you whisper.
His gaze drifts to your stomach, then back to your face. “You feelin’ okay?”
“Better.”
He studies you a beat longer. “You sure?”
You nod. “Yeah. Still tired. A little queasy. But… it’s different now.”
Joel’s fingers flex against your side. “Yeah. It is.”
There’s a quiet pause. Neither of you says it, but it’s there in the air between you. Real. Alive.
“I kept thinkin’ about what I’d say,” you admit quietly. “When I finally told you.”
Joel smiles faintly. “What’d you come up with?”
You shrug. “I didn’t think I’d get that far.”
He reaches up to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, his hand lingering at your cheek.
“You were right to be scared,” he says. “I was scared, too.”
You nod.
“But I want this,” he adds. “I want you. I want this baby.”
You blink fast. “You sure?”
“Sweetheart.” His hand moves back to your belly, resting there like it belongs. “I ain’t been sure about much in my life, but this?” He leans in, voice low and raspy. “Yeah. I’m sure.”
Your eyes sting again.
He kisses you softly—slow, lingering, like he’s not in a rush anymore. And for once, neither are you.
Tumblr media
Later, when the sky lightens and the rain slows, Joel gets up and pads to the fire to stoke it back to life. You sit on the edge of the bed, wrapped in one of his flannels, watching him move around the cabin like he’s already settled into this new chapter.
He talks as he works.
“Might need to reinforce that back door soon. Wind keeps slippin’ through the cracks.”
“Mmhm.”
“And we’ll need more blankets. If you’re gonna get cold easier, can’t have you freezin’ all night.”
You smile, resting a hand on your stomach.
“Could build a new shelf for the pantry,” he adds, glancing at you. “Start settin’ aside things for winter. For… y’know.”
He gestures vaguely at your stomach, the faintest blush creeping into his cheeks.
You can’t help it—you laugh.
“What?”
“You’re nesting.”
He frowns. “I’m not.”
“You are.”
Joel mutters under his breath, but you catch the corner of his mouth twitching.
He crosses the room a moment later and crouches in front of you, palms resting on your knees.
“I’m serious, though,” he says. “We’ll figure it out. Whatever we need. You just gotta tell me what’s goin’ on, alright?”
You nod.
“No more secrets,” you whisper.
“No more secrets,” he echoes.
He leans forward, presses a kiss to your thigh, then rests his forehead there for a long moment. When he looks up again, his eyes are glassy.
“You ever think about names?”
Your heart lurches.
“I haven’t gotten that far.”
“Well,” he says softly, “maybe we should.”
You stare at him.
“I know it’s early,” he continues. “But I keep thinkin’ about it. The kind of name we’d give. What kind of person they’ll be.”
You reach for his hand. “You really want this?”
“I already do,” he says.
You smile, brushing your thumb over his knuckles. “What if it’s a girl?”
Joel swallows hard. “Then I guess I’ll have two reasons to keep this world safe.”
You press your forehead to his.
And you both sit there in the early morning quiet, breathing together, dreaming of something you never thought you’d have again.
A future.
Tumblr media
That evening, Joel pulls you into his lap while the fire crackles, his hand absentminded on your stomach, thumb stroking slow circles over the curve that isn’t there yet but will be.
He talks to the baby like he’s already met them.
Tells them how much he’s looking forward to teaching them to fish, to play guitar, to run without looking back. He jokes about how stubborn they’re probably gonna be, how it’s definitely your fault, and how he’s not gonna let them out of his sight until they’re at least twenty-five.
You laugh, and cry, and laugh again.
And when you fall asleep in his arms, it’s the first time in weeks that your dreams aren’t full of fear.
They’re full of names.
And tiny hands.
And sunlight.

People are judgmental. Some think they aren't, others don't mean to be, and then there are those who do it on purpose and simply don't care.
Parents are guilty of this.
Parents who pay you to teach their kids do this.
But the worst offenders?
Wives.
Particularly those with too much free time—gossiping Gertrude's who'd rather nitpick and judge than deal with the boredom of daytime TV and their kids screaming in the background. You’ve dealt with a handful before—a crack in the system that always rippled right under your skin whenever one of those vultures threw out a backhanded compliment.
“You’re so patient with the kids. I could never do what you do—how do you even manage?”
“Must be nice having all that time off during the summer. A little vacation every year, huh?”
“Teaching must be so rewarding. Though I imagine it’s not really about the money, is it?”
Each one, a subtle dig disguised as flattery, like they couldn’t help but twist the knife just a little deeper.
If there was one thing you’d learned about this job, it was to always kill them with kindness. The rumor mill among parents was ruthless, and the wrong rumor could ripple out and jeopardize your career. So, you’d mastered the art of the polite smile, the well-timed thank you, and the effortless small talk. It was a strategy that had served you well, keeping any overly curious mothers at bay.
Still, these women were relentless. They circled like hawks, always looking for an opening to pry into your life or make veiled comments about your parenting. You’d never given them the satisfaction of slipping up—until the day you almost did.
The sun was setting, the air brisk and tinged with the promise of winter as parents gathered their children. Little voices chattered away as teachers handed over day charts, neatly summarizing each child’s activities. Standing at the cubbies, you were bundling up Adira. Her small frame was snug in her sweater, jacket zipped up to her chin, and scarf tucked securely around her neck. She fidgeted as you worked, barely able to stay still with how much excitement bubbled in her tiny frame.
Her voice was high-pitched and animated as she launched into a story, her words tumbling over each other in her eagerness to share. “Messy man said, we play trains when he comes back!” she chirped, her dark eyes wide with delight.
You paused, your fingers lingering on the last button of her jacket. A soft smile tugged at your lips as you straightened her scarf. “Oh, did he now?”
Adira nodded vigorously, her curls bouncing. “Yep! He said, “Adira, we make the best train track ever!” Her imitation of Simon’s deep voice was laughably exaggerated, and you couldn’t help but chuckle.” We gonna play with the biiig track!” She spread her arms wide for emphasis, nearly toppling over from the effort.
The mention of Simon was enough to draw some attention from the other parents nearby. You could feel their eyes darting your way, their curiosity almost palpable. Simon’s occasional appearances to pick up Adira hadn’t gone unnoticed, and the whispers had already started. Who was this tall, broad man with a thick accent? Was he Adira’s father? A boyfriend? The air was thick with silent speculation.
Ignoring the countless eyes and ears listening in on your harmless conversation, you assured Adira. “Well, if messy man promised, he’ll keep it,” Simon had made it clear that he intended to be a constant presence in Adira’s life, and so far, he’d stuck to his word.
As you stood and picked up her small bag, a sharp voice interrupted the moment.
"Well, aren’t you just the picture-perfect little family?”
Your polite smile returned instantly, masking the irritation that flared at the condescending tone. Turning, you saw one of the daycare moms—Linda, if you remembered correctly—standing there with her perfectly manicured nails wrapped around her designer purse. Her son trailed behind her, nose buried in a tablet.
“Evening, Linda,” you said evenly, keeping your tone light. “How’s Ethan doing?
She waved a dismissive hand, her eyes already scanning Adira with that overly curious gaze that made your skin crawl. “Oh, he’s fine. But I couldn’t help overhearing... this ‘Messy man’ your little one mentioned. Is he... new in your life?”
Ah, there it was—the opening she was fishing for.
Adira, oblivious to the undercurrents of adult conversation, grinned up at Linda uncharacteristically, the joy she felt for Simon completely expunging her normal glaring behavior. “Messy man makes pancakes! But they go splat!” She threw her hands out dramatically, mimicking the chaos Simon often caused in the kitchen.
Goddammit, poor Adira revealed too much to the wrong person, and you could already see the cogs turning in Linda's head. Forcing a chuckle, you reached for Adira’s hand. “Messy man is her nickname for Simon, her dad. He’s stationed overseas, so she gets pretty excited when he’s home.”
Linda’s perfectly arched eyebrow lifted slightly, clearly surprised. “Oh, I see. Military man, huh? I suppose that explains why we’ve never seen him around.”
You gave Linda your most neutral expression, taking notice of the other moms matching from behind her. “He’s been busy, but he’s doing his best to be here when he can.”
"Oh, I see. I simply would've never guessed you were married. You never wear a ring," Linda remarked, her tone dripping with subtle judgment.
You knew what she was doing. It was a carefully laid trap, baited to catch you in a corner. If you rebuffed her comment, if you made a scene, it would only give her more ammunition to spread rumors. These women didn’t care for nuances; they thrived on gossip, and the topic of marriage—or rather, the lack of a visible wedding ring—would be a field day for them. They’d ride that horse straight to hell, and you'd be left cleaning up the mess.
With the growing number of parents in earshot, you understood that this wasn’t just a comment; it was a test. You had to choose your words carefully. It wasn’t just about keeping things smooth in the moment—it was about protecting your future.
You gave a small, practiced smile, maintaining your composure as you slipped Adira’s bag onto your shoulder. “I don’t wear my ring because I work with children. It could get caught in their hair, or worse, I could lose it.” You met her gaze with a calm confidence that bordered on dismissive.
“That’s understandable, dear. We all have kids after all!” Lina laughed, her tone attempting to sound warm and genuine, but it was too polished, too forced. The laughter rang hollow, like a poorly executed attempt to mask her true intentions. “Does this mean we’ll finally get to meet him at the fundraiser this weekend? We’ve all been here for so long, and not a single glimpse of your beloved other half. Right, ladies?”
Her words floated in the air, sharp with insinuation. The smile she wore was one of practiced sweetness, but the glint in her eyes was anything but kind. She knew what she was doing—attempting to pull you further into her web, hoping to get a reaction that would either reveal more or, better yet, give her ammunition to fuel the rumors she clearly wanted to start.
A few of the other women murmured in agreement, their eyes flicking from you to each other, already whispering amongst themselves. They were all waiting for a response, and the pressure began to build in the pit of your stomach.
“Yes, he is.” The words slipped out of your mouth before you could even process them, your own response surprising you as much as it did the group of wives surrounding you. You felt a jolt in your chest, your heart picking up pace as the reality of what you had just said began to sink in. What the fuck did you just do?
The laughter from Linda faltered for a split second, her eyes narrowing slightly as she processed your words. The others exchanged glances, some of their faces lighting up with an almost predatory curiosity, while others masked their thoughts behind polite smiles. You could almost hear the gears turning in their heads—oh, this was going to be something they could use.
The tension in the air thickened, and you suddenly felt exposed, as if every secret you’d carefully kept tucked away was now dangling on the edge of a cliff. You’d just handed them the perfect piece of gossip, but what would it lead to? Would they use it against you, twist it into something worse? You hadn’t planned for any of this—hell, you hadn't even planned on saying anything at all—but now that it was out there, you had to somehow steer this conversation.
You had to control the narrative, or risk letting it spiral completely out of your hands.
Your mind races, trying to formulate a response, but everything seems so loud—your thoughts, the laughter, the eyes watching you. How could you backpedal without it seeming like a lie? How could you walk that fine line between the truth and keeping your personal life hidden?
"Yes, Simon’s coming," you added quickly, trying to steady your breath. "But, you know... he’s not really into the whole fundraiser thing. He’s more of a stay-at-home guy, a bit of a quiet one, really. I’ll be there though, and we’re looking forward to it." You tried to sound casual, but the flicker of doubt in your voice betrayed you.
The women around you didn’t miss a beat, though. The moment had been set, and now it was only a matter of what they would do with the information.
“Well, I look forward to seeing you.” Lina’s voice was dripping with a false sweetness, and you could feel the weight of her gaze as she gave you one last look. Her eyes lingered a bit longer than necessary, as if trying to peel back layers, searching for some crack to exploit. Then, with a nod, she steered Ethan away, her entourage of women following closely behind, their chatter rising in the air like a distant murmur. The click of their heels echoed as they disappeared down the hall, leaving you standing there, frozen in place.
Tumblr media
"And so, that's what happened," you finished, your voice trailing off as you leaned against the kitchen counter, trying to gauge Simon's reaction.
Simon blinked up at you from where he was sitting on the floor, his focus still mostly on Adira, who was happily arranging her toy train with her blocks, making a makeshift kingdom. He didn’t seem phased, just a little confused. "You want me to pretend to be your husband?"
The question hung in the air for a moment before he let out a chuckle, shaking his head slightly, his eyes filled with that familiar warmth. "Out of all the things I've done in my life, this has to be the funniest, love.”
You blinked, momentarily thrown by the unexpected nickname. It felt oddly intimate, a shift in the dynamic between you and Simon that you hadn’t anticipated. Love. It wasn't what you'd expected to hear from him, not in this context, not when everything felt so messy and uncertain. But there it was, slipping out so naturally from him, like he'd always called you that, like he'd been in your life much longer than he really had.
Your heart skipped a beat, the sound of Adira’s laughter in the background making the moment feel surreal. It should have been funny—this whole situation, with you essentially asking Simon to pretend to be your husband for the sake of those gossiping women. But instead, you felt something else, something soft and unfamiliar tightening in your chest.
“Did you just call me that?” You couldn't help but ask, your voice a little quieter than you intended.
Simon paused, his playful smile faltering for a second as he caught the look on your face. “I—yeah, I guess I did,” he replied, his tone a touch more uncertain now. He glanced down at Adira, who was happily stacking blocks at his feet, then back to you. “It was just a slip of the tongue. Didn’t mean anything weird by it.”
“I’m not exactly husband material, you know,” he added lightly, his voice teasing. “I’m more of a... messy man.”
You chuckled at that, shaking your head. "A messy man, huh?"
He nodded, grinning. “Yeah, but I’m good at it. Just ask Adira.”
Adira, hearing her name, immediately let out a squeal of approval. “Messy man!” she giggled, throwing a block in Simon’s direction, her tiny hand pointing at him with delight.
"So, what's the plan here then?" That easy grin back on his face, his eyes still dancing with humor, but there was something underneath it—something you couldn’t quite place. “You want me to just walk into a room and act like we’re a picture-perfect couple?”
The way he said it made you laugh a little, though there was a slight edge of uncertainty to it. You found yourself shifting uncomfortably, knowing you had no real plan for what came next. It wasn’t like you had a relationship with Simon beyond the occasional dinner and time spent with Adira, and yet, here you were, asking him to play a role in your life, one that might end up blurring lines you didn’t fully understand.
“Well, you don’t have to pretend, exactly,” you said, running a hand through your hair, suddenly feeling all the weight of the day settling in. “I just... I just need you to be there. You know, to back me up, to—” You paused, glancing over at Simon again. “I guess I just don’t want them thinking I’m alone in all of this. It’s bad enough that has already started.”
Simon’s gaze softened as he leaned back in his seat, watching you with a quiet understanding. "You're not alone in this," he said, his voice steady. “And I’m here. You don’t need a ring or a title for that.”
The sincerity in his tone made your chest tighten again, but this time it was different. His words weren’t a joke or a half-hearted attempt to make you feel better—they were real. He was offering something more than just pretending for the sake of others. He was offering his presence, his support.
For a moment, you forgot about everything else. The plans, the expectations, the pressure. Instead, all that mattered was Simon sitting across from you, smiling at you like you weren't asking for something too much, like it wasn’t strange to think of him in your life like this.
“Thank you,” you murmured. "Really."
He gave a small nod, then grinned, shifting his attention back to Adira, who had managed to get half the blocks stacked to an impressive height. “It’s nothing. Besides, I think Adira’s got the best part of this deal anyway.”
You glanced over at your daughter, who was watching both of you with wide eyes, a smile tugging at her lips. Adira was your source of strength, a beacon that pushed you forward, her smile alone gave you determination.  “Alright, let’s figure out what married people do.”
"I know just who to call." Simon reached for his phone, the battered thing covered in scratches, an old case and sporting a broken screen from a hazardous drop. Upon seeing it, the first thought running through your head was, how the fuck was it still usable?
Tumblr media
Price’s living room radiated warmth and history, a perfect mix of domestic coziness and military precision. The centerpiece was a sturdy stone fireplace, its mantle adorned with framed photos of Price and his wife, Melanie. In some, they stood arm in arm at scenic locations; in others, Price was in uniform, the edges of his cap sharp against the backdrop of distant skies. Above the fireplace hung a shadow box displaying medals and insignias, each one polished to a shine, speaking volumes about his service.
Bookshelves lined the walls, filled with everything from military strategy texts to well-worn novels. On one shelf sat a small globe and a model of a Spitfire plane, a nod to his admiration for history. A comfortable, overstuffed armchair, complete with a folded tartan blanket, sat near the fire. The coffee table bore faint scratches, evidence of years of use, and atop it lay an open newspaper, a mug of tea, and a small dish of biscuits.
You sat stiffly on the plush sofa, feeling distinctly out of place amidst this blend of home and honor. The ticking of a grandfather clock in the corner filled the silence as you watched Simon talk to Price in the adjoining kitchen. Occasionally, their eyes flicked toward you, and you pretended not to notice, your gaze wandering instead to a black-and-white photo of a younger Price standing with a group of soldiers, all grinning ear to ear.
The awkwardness of the situation weighed on you like a heavy blanket. This wasn’t exactly how you envisioned your day—asking Price, of all people, to help stage your fake relationship. But you were in too deep now to back out.
In the kitchen, Price rubbed his hand over his mouth, barely concealing the grin that tugged at his lips. A low chuckle escaped as he grabbed a cup of coffee, shaking his head at Simon, who stood across from him, arms folded, his expression far more serious than the moment warranted.
“You want me and Mel to help you two seem like a couple? That right?” Price’s voice carried an unmistakable note of amusement, his words tinged with disbelief.
Simon shifted his weight, rolling his shoulders back, clearly trying to maintain some semblance of dignity. "Yes, that’s the gist of it."
Price’s laughter broke free, a warm, hearty sound that echoed off the kitchen tiles. “Bloody hell, Simon. You’ve seen action all over the world, but this—this is what’s got you nervous?” He clapped a hand on Simon’s shoulder, his grin wide enough to light the room. “You’re in for a treat, mate. Melanie’s going to love this.”
From your seat, you caught Price’s amused glance, and you couldn’t help the way your face heated. This was going to be a long evening.
Price, still chuckling, crossed the room to the wide bay window, pushing it open with ease. The crisp evening air drifted in, carrying with it the scent of freshly cut grass and the faint hum of distant crickets. He leaned out slightly, cupping his hands around his mouth.
“Mel! Come on inside, love. You’ve got to hear this one,” he called, his voice carrying easily over the quiet of their backyard.
From where you sat, you caught a glimpse of Melanie in the garden. She was tending to a neat row of vibrant flowers, her hands gloved and a straw hat perched on her head. At the sound of Price’s voice, she straightened up, brushing dirt off her knees with a curious look on her face.
“Be right there!” she replied, her voice warm and lilting. She removed her gloves, tucking them into her apron pocket as she began making her way toward the house.
Price turned back to Simon, shaking his head in mock disbelief. “You better hope Mel doesn’t laugh you out of the house, mate.”
Simon groaned softly, rubbing his temples. “Thanks for the vote of confidence, Price.”
Moments later, Melanie stepped into the living room, a radiant smile lighting up her face. She was the epitome of grace, her presence immediately softening the room’s atmosphere. Her gaze shifted between you, Simon, and her husband, her curiosity evident.
“What’s all this about, then?” she asked, removing her hat and setting it on a nearby chair. “You’ve got that mischievous look again, John.”
Price grinned, gesturing toward you and Simon. “These two need a favor, Mel. A big one.”
Melanie’s brows lifted as she looked between the two of you. “Oh? Do tell.”
Simon, looking equal parts determined and mortified, cleared his throat. “We... need help convincing a group of nosy parents that we’re married. Long story.”
Melanie’s smile widened as her eyes twinkled with amusement. “Oh, this sounds rich. Go on, I’m listening.”
You shifted in your seat, feeling the warmth of Melanie’s gaze settle on you. Her smile was kind but tinged with unmistakable amusement, and it was clear she was holding back a laugh as she took in your flustered state.
“Well,” you began hesitantly, clasping your hands together in your lap. “It’s a bit of a mess, really. One of the moms at the daycare cornered me, started asking questions about Simon, and… I might’ve let it slip that we’re married. Which we’re not. Obviously.” Your words tumbled out in a rush, and you glanced at Simon for backup. He was rubbing the back of his neck, caught between exasperation and amusement.
Melanie let out a soft laugh and gracefully sat down beside you on the couch. “Ah, I see. And now you need to sell the story before it falls apart. Oh, love, I’ve been in a similar pickle—not quite like this, but close enough.”
“See?” Price chimed in from his armchair, leaning back with an amused grin. “Told you Mel would get a kick out of this.”
Simon shot him a flat look. “Not exactly the reaction I was hoping for, mate.”
Melanie waved a dismissive hand at Price before patting your knee in a reassuring gesture. “Don’t mind him. Now, let’s think this through. If you’re going to convince anyone, you need to act the part. People pick up on the smallest details—how you talk to each other, how comfortable you seem together. If you’re too stiff, they’ll see right through it.”
Simon leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees as he nodded. “Alright, so what do we need to do? We’ve got about a week before the fundraiser, so I’m open to ideas.”
Melanie’s eyes lit up with a mix of mischief and determination. “Perfect. We’ll start with body language—how you interact without saying a word. And then we’ll move on to the conversational stuff. You’ll need to know each other’s habits, quirks, and all those little details married couples just know.”
Price clapped his hands together with mock enthusiasm, a cheeky grin plastered across his face. “Right, then. Let the awkward training sessions begin. This’ll be one for the books.”
You groaned inwardly, glancing between Simon and Melanie. This bizarre charade was only just beginning, and while you couldn’t imagine where it would lead, one thing was clear—you were in for a wild ride.

Happy new years friends! The holidays were a riot and I spent most of it spending time with family instead of writing as I felt kind of burnt out from writing in November, sorry about that but I hope this makes up for it.

You’re not supposed to cry.
You're supposed to sparkle.
You're supposed to laugh like you’ve never tasted bitterness, bounce off the walls like gravity never quite applied to you, and leave glitter bombs and rainbow cupcakes in your wake.
You're the sunshine of the team, the chaos incarnate with fingers covered in icing from baking every other day, held together by too much energy and not enough fear.
But right now, you’re sobbing, shaking so hard it rattles your bones.
The safe house is too quiet.
Too sterile.
You hate the quiet.
Your world is made of giggles and explosions and yelling at Tony for calling you “a walking serotonin factory,” like it’s not the biggest compliment ever.
Steve’s kneeling next to you, his voice is soft, words calm and even, like a warm blanket.
Nat’s crouched just behind him, her clothes smeared with blood that’s not hers. You know what that means. She already got them, the ones who hurt you.
But none of that matters.
You want him.
“Bucky,” you whisper softly, the name tumbling out between hiccups.
Steve tries to soothe you. “He’s coming, sunshine. He’s on his way.”
But that only makes it worse. It hurts, how badly you need him. The tight, aching space in your chest pulses with panic.
You try to push yourself off the couch even though your leg won't work right. The pain flares, sharp and hot, but not as bad as the panic clawing through your ribs. “I need him now. Please. I want Bucky.”
Your voice breaks, shatters into something raw and desperate.
Steve looks helpless. Even Captain America doesn’t know how to hold back the sun when it starts to implode.
Nat lays a hand on your shoulder. Her touch is light but firm. “He’s coming,” she says quietly. “He’s already ripping apart the walls to get to you.”
That sounds like him.
It helps, but not enough.
The tears keep coming, stupid and hot, blurring everything. Your fingers grip the blanket around you, but it’s not what you want.
You want metal and leather and the calloused hands that catch you midair when you launch off rooftops without a second thought. You want the gruff voice that mutters complaints when you bounce in front of him, bright and too close, but never pulls away.
You want Bucky.
And then he’s there.
Steve barely gets out of the way before Bucky’s next to you, metal hand cupping your cheek like you’re made of something too precious to break.
“There you are,” he breathes. “Sunshine, what did they do to you?”
Your hands reach out to grab him, clutching at his jacket, his shoulder, his neck, anything that’s him.
You curl into him like a sunflower searching for sunlight, burying your face in his chest and gasping like you can’t breathe without him.
He smells safe.
Like home.
“I thought you weren’t coming,” you sob into him. “I was so scared. I thought…”
He’s already wrapping around you, his flesh hand holding the back of your head, metal arm tucking you into him, so close there’s no space between your body and his. “Shh. I’m here, baby. You’re safe now. I got you. Nobody’s touching you ever again.”
You nod, even as the tears soak through his shirt. His lips press to your temple, your cheek, the corner of your mouth. Like, if he kisses you enough, he can erase what happened.
“You’re late,” you whisper, your voice trembling and watery.
“I know, dollface,” he murmurs, his voice cracking at the edges. “I should’ve been faster.”
Steve clears his throat, somewhere behind you. “Maybe give her a second to breathe, Buck.”
“I am breathing,” you mutter into Bucky’s neck, your voice muffled but stubborn.
Bucky glares at Steve. “She wants me, she gets me. End of story.”
Nat smirks from the corner, arms crossed. “She was begging for you like the world was ending.”
“She’s my world,” Bucky shoots back without hesitation.
He tilts your chin up gently, and when your glassy eyes meet his, he winces. “Look at what they did to my baby,” he whispers. “Your face. Your leg...” He trails off, breathing hard, like he might go find the bastards and rip them apart again just for good measure.
“Nat already got them,” you say, sniffling, managing a tiny smile. “Bet she looked really cool doing it, too.”
“I wanted to be the one to end them,” he mutters darkly.
You tug on his sleeve. “You’re here now. That’s better, the best thing ever. Promise.”
He melts at that, just enough. His forehead presses to yours. “You scared me, you little menace.”
“I scare everyone,” you mumble, eyes drooping as the exhaustion catches up with you. “But you always come back.”
“Always, sunshine.” He kisses the tip of your nose, holding you like you’re breakable. “You’re my favorite chaos.”
You hum, smiling sleepily at him, and he has to look away so he doesn’t fold. “I like when you call me that.”
“I’d like it even more if you didn’t almost get yourself killed,” he mutters. “No more solo missions. No more running ahead without backup. No more playing bait.”
“But I’m good bait,” you protest, nuzzling into his chest.
“I don’t care. No more.” His voice is final. His grip is absolute. “You’re sticking with me.”
And maybe that sounds like a means of control to anyone else.
But you? You just smile.
Because you’re safe.
Because he’s here.
Even the brightest light needs a shadow to guard it.
And Bucky Barnes is your favorite one.

Use Your Heart
UConn WBB Team x fem!Reader
Tumblr media
MASTERLIST | MORE
Summary: Your anxiety has been getting harder to hide. But when your baby sister visits for the weekend, the team sees the side of her she never lets out.
Genre: Hurt/comfort, slice of life, team bonding, quiet softness, found family
Warnings: Mental health themes (anxiety, emotional burnout), implied crying, emotional vulnerability, soft angst with a healing resolution
Word Count: ~0.5k
Tumblr media
It’s been hard to explain lately. The way my thoughts don’t slow down, the way even breathing feels like work. Like I’m stuck underwater but somehow still expected to run a mile. I’ve been quiet. Quieter than usual. People think I’m just introverted, but this is something else. This is the kind of quiet that comes with exhaustion, with a hollowness I can’t quite name. And I’ve been trying—God knows I’ve been trying—to keep showing up, to stay present. But it’s not working.
Geno knows something’s wrong. I can see it in the way his voice lowers around me. In the way he hesitates before yelling. He still pushes me, still expects effort, but there’s a different edge to it now. Like he’s not trying to break me—just hold the pieces steady.
KK lingers after practice, always starting with a “yo, you good?” and never pushing when I lie with a nod. Jana tries to make me laugh in the locker room, tapping my shoe with hers under the bench when she sees me zoning out. Azzi doesn’t ask questions—she just passes me the ball, stays close, makes the silence feel less lonely. Nika watches me like she’s trying to solve a puzzle. Aubrey gives me her granola bar every morning without saying a word. Paige starts taking my bag before I even reach for it. Ayanna leans her head on my shoulder like she’s trying to share her calm with me. Inês braids a piece of her hair next to mine and pretends it’s nothing.
They care. I know that. And that makes it harder. Because I feel like I’m dragging the whole team down. I don’t want to be dead weight. I don’t want to be the quiet cloud hovering in every group photo. But I’m just… gone. Checked out. Living with the volume turned all the way down.
Until my sister shows up.
She’s six. A whole beam of sunlight with no dimmer switch. My mom drops her off Saturday morning, bags packed and smile tired. She kisses my forehead and says, “Take her for the weekend. I need a break. And so do you.”
She’s right.
It starts with her little fingers grabbing mine. The moment she sees me, she yells my name and launches herself into my arms like no time’s passed. She smells like strawberry shampoo and cereal. She looks up at me with those big brown eyes and says, “Did you miss me? ‘Cause I missed you all the way from home.”
And I crumble. Right there in the hallway.
The team doesn’t know she’s here. We head to the gym, just me and her, and for the first time in weeks I feel like I can breathe. I tie her shoelaces tight, help her with layups, lift her onto my shoulders when she begs to “dunk like LeBron.” I’m laughing again. Full-out belly laughing. We play horse. We play tag. We eat snacks off a towel like it’s a picnic on the hardwood. I don’t even notice when the gym door opens.
But they do.
Azzi’s the first one to spot us. Then Paige. Then the others trickle in. One by one, they all stop in the doorway like they’re afraid to interrupt.
Because I’m glowing. And they’ve never seen it.
My sister shoots, misses, runs to me with a giggle. “That was your fault,” she says, “you weren’t watching close enough.”
“I’m sorry, baby,” I smile, lifting her up. “I’m watching now.”
Geno leans in the doorway, arms crossed. “So this is the secret to making you smile, huh?”
I flush, looking down. “She’s… she’s kinda my person.”
“She’s a good one,” he says, soft. “Looks good on you.”
That night, I stay up late with her, making things. Construction paper, paint pens, tape and glue. She yawns beside me, but I can’t stop. My hands need to move. I need them to say what I haven’t been able to.
So I make something for each of them.
For KK, a beaded bracelet that spells out “Girly Pop.”
For Jana, a tiny watercolor of her pulling a funny face at me.
For Paige, a paper crown that reads “Lightweight, Heavy Heart” because she carries more than she lets on.
For Azzi, a tiny keychain of her number made out of clay.
For Nika, a hand-cut puzzle piece with “You always see me.”
For Aubrey, a felt flower that matches her scrunchie.
For Ayanna, a stress ball shaped like a cloud.
For Inês, a bookmark with our names written in Portuguese and English.
And for Geno… a dad hat. Painted with glitter glue and all. The words “BEST (almost) DAD” scribbled across the brim in crooked letters. My sister helped with that one. She insisted he’d like sparkles.
I put everything in little bags. I leave them in their lockers Sunday night before anyone gets there. No notes. Just gifts. My apology without the words.
I didn’t mean to disappear. But thank you for not letting me vanish completely.
The gym is quiet the next morning. Early light filters in through the windows, cold and soft, catching the edges of dust in the air. You’re sitting on the bench with your sister curled up in your lap, her cheek smushed against your chest, still wearing her pink hoodie with the unicorn ears. Her little legs are wrapped in your oversized UConn hoodie, and she’s humming—quiet, aimless, happy.
The locker room is starting to stir. You hear laughter, shoes squeaking, the clatter of water bottles, and then the shift—when they start finding the gifts.
It’s quiet for a second too long.
Then KK walks out with her bracelet between her fingers, eyebrows furrowed like it means more than she knows how to say. Jana follows, holding the watercolor, staring at it like she’s seeing you for the first time. Paige appears behind her, cardboard crown tilted on her head, shaking it with a crooked grin.
“Yo,” she calls out, walking into the gym, “who made all this?” You glance down at your sister.
She lifts her head like it’s her cue, eyes wide and serious now. “My sissy did.”
Azzi walks up first, keychain looped around her finger, and crouches beside the bench. “These are beautiful,” she says gently. “She really made them all?”
Your sister nods hard. “She didn’t sleep.”
Azzi looks up at you, but you’re watching the floor, jaw tight. You’re not used to being seen like this.
“She gets sad sometimes,” your sister says, voice small but certain. “But she’s really, really good. Like… her heart’s just too big, like the grinch..but the good part.”
Azzi swallows, eyes glinting with emotion.
“But she’s strong too,” your sister continues, nodding. “Like, she might cry, but then she’ll go do a hard thing anyway…. She won’t let you down.” Now the others are listening.
Inês sits on your other side and hands your sister a protein bar. “That was very brave,” she says softly.
“Thank you for making my sister happy,” your sister tells her seriously. Then she looks at each of them, one by one. “All of you. She smiles more now. Not a lot, but… more.”
You bury your face in her hair. KK sits cross-legged in front of you. “You really made this for me?” she asks, holding up the bracelet.
You nod slowly, eyes still hidden.
“Awww pookie I love you,” she says.
Geno strolls in last, wearing his glittery ‘BEST (almost) DAD’ hat like it’s designer. The whole team stares, waiting for him to roast it.
But he just shrugs. “Fits like a charm.”
Your sister claps, then tugs your sleeve. “See?” she whispers. “They love you.”
You don’t say a word. You just hold her tighter. But your heart feels a little quieter for the first time in weeks.
And they all see it now. Not just your sadness. But your softness. And they start loving you the way you’ve always loved your sister—unconditionally.

Request for the driver x singer trope;
I’ve had Miss Possessive by Tate McRae stuck in my head for days, we have the whole Lando (or Oscar) vibes from 2 Hands music video (orange sports car) so maybe !Reader who has her McLaren driver boyfriend in her music video and then something inspired by Miss Possessive and Reader releasing that song
i know it did not turn out perfect and i am not a hundred percent sure this is what you wanted me to write but i tried my best so please be kind <3
anything for you
Tumblr media
pairing: lando norris x singer!reader warnings: none words: 1k
You’ve been in a relationship with Lando for only half a year, but from the first time you two met, at a concert of yours, there has been an undeniable chemistry between you two.
When you started dating, Lando was nothing less than perfect. He brought you coffee, accompanied you to the few concerts you gave during the off-season, always made sure you didn’t work too much, and supported you when you had song ideas at 2 a.m. and wanted his opinion.
But he asked for one thing. Keeping the relationship private for now. His last relationships have not worked because of his fans who hated on his girlfriends. They all decided to break up with him then, and he didn’t want that to happen again. You agreed when he asked for that because you knew how fans could be, having experienced it as well as a famous singer.
In one of your latest music videos, you soft-launched your relationship with Lando, but only very few people had picked up on the hint with the orange car. But it had been clear from the beginning that it wasn’t too obvious as you never mentioned a boyfriend, which wasn’t too hard as both you and Lando were that type of people who loved to be private about their lives.
But then you saw an interview with Lando, and the interviewer was flirting with him. Your boyfriend. She couldn’t know, but who dare she? Lando, the cute boyfriend he was, immediately backed off because he did not want anyone flirting with him. You were the only one he wanted. But then it happened again. And again. And again.
One evening when you were on a call with Lando, he noticed you looked a little sad.
“What’s up, love? I know something’s wrong,” he asked with that gentle voice he always used when he talked to you. Like you were the most precious person in the world.
“Nothing. Just a long day, you know?” you just answered, forcing a smile.
“Love, you should know better than to lie to me. Tell me. What’s on your mind?” your boyfriend asked again.
“Just… no… forget it, it’s silly”, you said, shaking your head and looking down before lifting your head again just to be met with Lando’s face on your phone, showing a worried expression.
“Nothing you say is silly. Y/N, listen. I know we don’t see each other often now that the season has started again, but I still know when something is wrong, and this relationship will only work when we communicate and tell each other what’s going on in each other’s minds. I made the mistake in my last relationships to not make that clear, and you saw how it went. So please, talk to me, love.”
Lando’s words somehow managed to make you tear up, so you wiped your tears.
“It just sucks. You’re gone, and I want to be with you, and then I see those damn interviewers flirting with you, and I saw you didn’t flirt back or so, but I don’t like it. I trust you, really, I do, but I am just so scared that you will not like me anymore and realise it sucks when your girlfriend can’t be with you, and then you will want another one. I don’t like that.”
“Love… you know there is no other person than you I want to be with. If it makes you feel better, I can come to your concert after the next race?”, Lando offered, like the sweet boyfriend he was.
“You don’t have to, Lan. I know you have a busy schedule and probably want to relax a little at home”, you sighed.
“And if we make our relationship public?”, Lando asked carefully, and you choked on the air you just breathed in.
“No, Lan, you don’t have to do it just because of my silly mood”, you reassured him. “I don’t want anyone to hate on you again just because you are in a relationship with me.”
“You know I wouldn’t care, love.”
You nodded. You knew that he wouldn’t, but you would feel guilty if all that hate started again.
“I also don’t want to tell everyone just like that. No one knows we are together. No one even knows we have a boy or a girlfriend. I don’t just want to throw everyone into it. Not just our fans but also our friends. Families.
You saw Lando nodding on the screen.
“You are probably right. And if we start to prepare them for it? I mean, we would just have to give a little hint that the orange car in your last music video was because of me, right? Then they would eventually get it?”
You considered your boyfriend’s idea for a second before slowly nodding ‘yes’.
“I have an idea… Do you trust me?”, you asked Lando over the phone.
He looked a little skeptical but nodded.
“Of course. Do what you think is right. I’ll do anything for you, love.”
***
That night you spent hours in front of your little notebook while drinking a hundred cups of coffee. The sun already started rising again when you finally closed it, satisfied.
***
One week later you stood on a stage in front of thousands of people and performed your song ‘Miss possessive’ for the first time. It surprised every single person as you hadn’t given a single hint that a new song will release anytime soon. But here you were.
Immediately after the concert you opened instagram to post some photos of you and Lando, though none of those with his face, but the fans will probably have found out by tomorrow you thought to yourself.
You saw a notification pop up on the top of your phone screen. Lan.
So… is that your definition of soft launching our relationship?, he asked.
Yes 😁😘
a/n: i know this isn’t perfect and this fanfiction honestly cost me so many nerves but i loved this request very much <3

healing touch
Tumblr media
words: 700
warnings: established relationship, catcalling
“you've changed.” rafe observes, cocking his head to the side as you don't respond to his arrival home, or even budge at his words. your eyes are stared straight forward, blank and almost hollow, so unlike the vibrancy rafe is used to seeing when he looks at you.
“baby.” rafes voice is softer now as he takes a step forward, not trying to startle you from your place perched on the countertop, sat with your legs pulled up to your chest, chin against your knees.
“darling.” rafe steps closer again, and your eyelashes finally flutter as you notice him, looking up without even a crack of a smile.
“what's wrong?” he asks, suppressing the urge to get angry, to lash out at whoever-whatever, he doesn't care, made you feel this way. rafe knows he needs to stay calm for you, placing his hands on your hips and looking you in your chocolate brown eyes.
“i decided to walk today to vikeys.” you tell rafe, swallowing harshly.
“uh huh.” rafe knows you usually go to a friend's house when he's gone for the day, giving yourself something to do and also a chance to catch up when you can't be with your boyfriend.
“and i walked past that construction site. you know the new apartments being put up.” you wait for rafe to nod before continuing. “the… the workers there were on their lunch break and they…”
“what did they do?” rafe asks, harsh tone slipping into his voice, but you know it's not meant for you.
“they were just whistling at me at first. i tried to walk by faster, i crossed the street, but they just got louder. started talking about- about what they'd do to me.”
you don't have to say anything more for rafe to understand. he carefully pulls your legs down and pulls you to the edge of the marble countertop so he can press you against his chest, knowing that what you need at the moment is his touch, his hold.
“i got to vickys as soon as i could. i just felt disgusting, gross. she let me shower there and borrow a pair of clothes before driving me back home.”
“ill make sure to thank vicky for helping out my girl.” rafe presses a kiss to the top of your head. “you could have called me though, baby.”
“i-i know.” you look up at rafe, tears welling up. “i just wasn't thinking. i felt like i was in another body almost.”
“and how are you feeling now?” rafe asks, his hands gently petting up and down your back.
“better now that you're here.” you sigh out.
“did you eat?” rafe glances at the clock, knowing he's home a bit later than usual.
when you shake your head no, rafe pauses for a moment to think. “how about we order pizza and relax and watch that new season of the tv show you've been hounding me to see?” rafe sees a little spark back in your eyes just from the mention of relaxing with him.
“and im taking the rest of the week of work.” rafe grabs his phone out of his pocket to order pizza before you can argue, but there is one last piece of work rafe has to do before he can be satisfied.
--
you hum along to the song as rafes hand grips your thigh, the other on the steering wheel as he brings you back home from the country club, having went “golfing” with him, which really just means driving the cart around while he plays.
“rafe-” you turn to look at him with confusion when he turns down the wrong street.
“just want you to see something.” he says, pulling up to the construction site you got cat called in front of, the words echoing through your mind until rafe reminds you of where you are and who you're with with a soft squeeze of your leg, snapping you out of it.
you look at the sign in front of the fence. cameron developments.
“you… you bought whole apartment complex?”
“and fired the entire previous crew. they won't find work in this town again, trust me.”
“oh, rafe.” you launch yourself over the center console, kissing him deeply as your arms wrap around his shoulders.
“as much as i like kissing you, baby-” rafe says, mumbling against your lips. “how about we wait until we get home to continue this?”
you giggle and sit back on your seat as he speeds off.

Something In The Mirror
bob reynolds x scarlet!witch!reader
Tumblr media
Sauté sizzles in the pan. You’re barefoot, loose t-shirt half-tucked into sleep shorts, hair twisted up. The kitchen is a mess in the charming way that means something is happening — spice jars open, garlic skins on the counter, fresh herbs drying on a paper towel.
“Do not lie to me—did you or did you not put the basil in the freezer again?” you yell, knife hovering midair by magic as you reach for a pot.
Bob’s voice echoes from the back room:
“It’s not in the freezer.”
“You said that last time and I pulled out an entire frozen brick of leaves, Floyd Mayweather-punching me with frostbite.”
“It was experimental preservation!”
You roll your eyes, letting the pot float itself onto the burner while your magic opens the fridge. “You’re the most powerful man in the universe and your arch-nemesis is basic food storage.”
“You wound me.”
“I’ll wound you if I find ice-basil again—”
“Try it. I’m ready.”
“Is that a threat or a flirt?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know.”
You smile to yourself, dropping chopped tomatoes into the pot. The scent of garlic and herbs fills the space. This is what it’s been like lately — peaceful. Soft. He’s better with routines, and this little house has made him quieter. Lighter.
“Hey,” he calls. “You want a glass of wine?”
“You want a kiss?”
“I asked first.”
You flick your fingers and float a corkscrew through the air. “I’ll kiss you with the wine.”
He laughs.
“You’re dangerous.”
“And you’re stalling. Basil. Where?”
Silence.
You glance over your shoulder toward the hallway.
“Babe?”
“Top shelf. Pantry. Left side.”
You nod, open the pantry. There it is. Not frozen. A miracle.
You smile, calling back, “You actually listened.”
“Of course I did.”
Pause.
“I always listen to you.”
You pause for a beat, warmth curling in your chest. “I know, Bob. That’s why I love—”
And then—
Silence.
Thick, sudden.
No background clatter. No footsteps. No sarcastic reply.
Just stillness.
“…Babe?”
No answer.
“Bob?”
Nothing.
You frown. The tomato sauce simmers behind you. The air feels… wrong.
A faint flicker in the overhead light makes your stomach tighten.
You turn the stove off. Wipe your hands. Step toward the hallway.
“Bob, this isn’t funny.”
Still silence.
You walk down the hall — slow, careful. Your fingers glow just slightly. Habit.
You pass the bathroom. Spare room.
Bedroom door cracked open.
And that’s when you see him.
He’s standing in front of the full-length mirror.
Not checking his outfit. Not stretching. Just… staring.
Frozen.
Shoulders tense. Eyes locked on his own reflection.
Your voice goes soft. “Hey… dinner’s gonna burn if you go full sleep paralysis demon on me.”
No response.
You step closer.
His body looks normal — maybe too normal. Too still. There’s no twitch. No breath shift. No micro-expressions. Like something perfectly mimicking human shape but missing the code.
Your fingers twitch. The glow returns.
“Bob?”
His eyes don’t move.
You step beside him. Look into the mirror.
That’s when you see it.
His reflection is moving just a half-second behind. Like lagging. A distorted video feed. A glitch in the matrix.
“No.”
And then the lights flicker hard — on-off-on-off-on—
And behind you—
CRASH.
Something explodes in the kitchen. Metal-on-tile. Wood snapping. A plate shatters.
You whip your head toward the sound—
Turn back—
And he’s gone.
Where Bob stood is now something else.
Something black.
Slick and wrong and heavy.
Like if a black hole wore skin.
Eyes like pits of collapsing stars.
The Void.
The air bends around it. Pressure fills your ears.
You barely blink before you react—
Magic flares.
You throw your hand forward and rip the hardwood floor upward like a wave. It crashes toward the creature, dragging furniture, curtains, a chair—
The Void moves like liquid shadow. Disappears.
Then SLAMS into you from the side, throwing you into the wall hard enough to crack the plaster.
You teleport mid-air, land on your feet, spin and launch red energy like a cannon blast—
It catches it.
Twists it.
Throws it back at you.
You absorb it with a grunt, rolling through the blast radius and throwing two more bolts at its chest.
They hit.
It stumbles.
Then straightens with a smile too wide.
“You always thought he was just sad.”
Your breath catches.
You open a portal beneath it. It drops through—
You close it—
Open another above the kitchen island—
It crashes down into the granite with a roar, splinters and debris flying—
You rush in and slam it with a reality pulse, bending the space around it, squeezing it into a micro-cube of warped energy.
It cracks the cube open with its bare hands.
And screams.
Not out loud.
In your mind.
“He doesn’t know what he is.
But I do.”
It grabs you by the throat.
Lifts you.
And this time—
You see stars.
You struggle. Claw. Magic flares at your palms. But its grip is inhuman. Your feet are off the floor.
“You’re strong. But he loves you. That makes him weak.”
Your lips part. One last spell left.
You place your hands to its face.
And dive into Bob’s mind.
You don’t speak. You show.
• Dinner half-finished.
• Your hands glowing while you dance around the kitchen.
• His laugh.
• You asleep on his chest.
• The basil.
• The mirror.
• Your eyes—right now—wide, afraid, dying.
Something cracks.
The shadow melts.
His grip drops.
And Bob falls with you to the floor like the air left his lungs.
“No. No—what—what did I—what was that—”
You’re coughing hard, vision swimming. Your ribs hurt. Your palms sting.
He crawls to you, hands hovering, terrified to touch you.
“I didn’t feel it coming—I didn’t even know—I’m so sorry—”
You grab his wrist with a shaking hand.
“Bob—hey. Look at me.”
He does. Barely.
You stare at him, blood on your lip, body wrecked.
“You let that thing out again?”
You lean in, voice low.
“I’ll kill both of you.”
He breaks.
Falls into your arms.
And for the first time since you met him—
He’s scared of himself.
The walls are cracked.
The chandelier’s gone.
A knife is still lodged in the ceiling.
The house is a wreck, and so are you.
You sit on what’s left of the living room floor, back against the wall, your knees pulled up. Blood at your temple, cuts along your arms, magic still twitching at your fingertips.
Bob hasn’t moved in five minutes.
He’s sitting across from you. Elbows on his knees. Head down. Hands shaking.
You speak first.
“I should’ve known.”
He flinches.
“It felt like you were holding something in. Like… more than just pain.”
He still doesn’t look at you.
You exhale.
“But I didn’t think it was that.”
His voice is hoarse when it finally comes.
“I didn’t know.”
He lifts his head just slightly.
“Swear to God, I didn’t.”
His eyes are bloodshot. Tear tracks drying on his cheeks. He looks younger than usual. Smaller.
“I heard you. I remember talking. Laughing. You said the basil thing. I was… happy.”
He chokes on the word.
“Then it just went black. Like someone put a bag over my head. And when I came back—”
His eyes flick to your throat. Your bruises.
“I almost killed you.”
You nod slowly.
“You didn’t.”
“But I could.”
You lean forward, voice level.
“I’ve died before.”
His jaw clenches.
You keep going.
“You think I’m afraid of what you might do? Bob, you could level continents. And I still came home to you every night. I still chose you.”
His hands are fists. Nails dug into palms.
“I hurt you. I touched you—”
“And I’m still here.”
You crawl across the floor to him. Slowly. Carefully. Until your knees are pressed against his. You take his trembling hands in yours.
“You can’t hide from me now.”
His head lowers again, forehead nearly touching your chest.
“I don’t know how to be near you after this.”
You whisper, “Then let me show you how.”
You lead him by the hand to the one room still intact: the small space where he reads on rainy days. A worn couch. A warm blanket. The only thing untouched.
He sits down hesitantly.
You straddle his lap gently, your knees on either side of his thighs. His eyes widen.
“No—what are you—don’t, you’re hurt—”
You press your forehead to his.
“Don’t be gentle with me.”
His breath hitches.
“I have to be. I have to—”
“You don’t. That wasn’t you.”
Your fingers slide into his hair. Not pushing. Just holding.
“Touch me like I’m yours. Because I am.”
He blinks up at you, wide-eyed, full of shattered worship.
“I could lose control again.”
“And I’ll snap you back again. Every time.”
His chest rises and falls hard. His voice cracks.
“You’re not afraid.”
“No.”
“Why?”
You whisper:
“Because the Void doesn’t love me. But you do.”
That’s what breaks him.
His lips crash into yours like he’s drowning and you’re the only breath left in the world. His hands slide under your thighs—so careful, like he’s afraid to bruise you—and you grab his wrists and guide them where you want them.
“Don’t treat me like glass,” you breathe.
“But you are,” he rasps. “You’re the only thing I can’t break without dying.”
You pull back just enough to look him dead in the eye.
“Then you better not fucking drop me.”
He nods.
And finally, finally, he touches you like he means it.
Hands tight on your hips. Lips desperate. Body pressed to yours in apology, in worship, in terror that this is the last time you’ll let him love you.
But you don’t let go.
Not for a second.
And neither does he.

Bucky Barnes x Wife Reader
Summary Bucky goes missing on a mission.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
You didn’t remember the last time you slept.
Not really. Not deeply. Not since the mission. Not since Bucky disappeared.
It had been nineteen days.
Nineteen days since you last heard his voice through the comm, low and gravelly with that teasing warmth he only ever used with you.
Nineteen days since he’d said, “I’ll be back before you can miss me, doll.”
He was wrong.
Because you missed him before the jet even left the ground.
You hadn’t been able to sleep in the bed. It still smelled like him. You slept curled on the couch with his hoodie, waiting. Waiting for anything. For the door to knock. For someone to say he was okay. For the damn phone to ring.
But it never did.
Steve and Sam tried to reassure you. The mission had gone dark, but that didn’t mean he was
You couldn’t even think the word.
But your body knew. Nausea, insomnia, cold dread like lead in your lungs. You cried in the shower. You cried in the middle of the night. Then you stopped crying, which was somehow worse.
The house was a graveyard of memories. His boots by the door. The coffee mug with his fingerprint still smudged on it. His toothbrush.
Sometimes, you held it in your hand and whispered, Come home.
On day 20 Steve brought you tea. You snapped.
“I don’t want tea, Steve. I want my husband.”
Your voice broke. So did your knees. You collapsed into his arms and sobbed so hard your ribs hurt.
On day 22 you had a panic attack in the grocery store. The kind that makes your vision go black and your lungs forget how to breathe.
A stranger held your hand until it passed.
You went home, climbed into bed in Bucky’s hoodie, and screamed into the pillow until you saw stars.
On Day 23 You were folding laundry you didn’t remember washing when the knock came.
Three soft raps. You froze.
You didn’t rush to the door anymore. You had learned. Every time you did, it wasn’t him.
But something in your bones this time whispered: Go. Your feet moved on their own.
You opened the door and there he was.
Battered. Bruised. Blood crusted at his temple. Arm twitching like it hadn’t fully recalibrated. Eyes wide. Staring at you like you were the ghost.
He was thinner. Paler. But he was Bucky.
Your Bucky.
You couldn’t move.
Neither could he.
“…Hi, doll,” he whispered.
You launched yourself into his arms.
He caught you like muscle memory.
You kissed him like you were drowning, and he was air. You felt his hands trembling on your face. Felt his lips, desperate and raw against yours. Felt every broken piece of your soul stitching itself back together with every breath he took.
“I thought you were dead,” you sobbed. “I thought I couldn’t—”
“I tried to come back,” he choked out. “They had dampeners. No comms. No exits. I tried.”
“You’re here.” You clutched his shirt. “That’s all that matters.”
And then he cried.
Silent tears on your skin as he kissed your forehead, your cheeks, your mouth. His arms around you like he’d die if he let go.
“I kept your picture,” he whispered. “From our wedding. I looked at it every night. Every time I wanted to give up.”
You kissed him again, salty and breathless.
And you held each other in the doorway like a lifeline.
Because that’s what you were.
Bucky’s Pov
He knew he was going to die by day six.
No food. No comms. His mission partner dead. Trapped in an underground complex with a disabled arm and a fractured rib.
He wasn’t scared of death. Not really.
But he was scared of dying without seeing you again. So he didn’t. He lived. For you.
For your laugh, your voice, the way you kissed the corner of his mouth before he left on every mission.
For the photo in his vest pocket your wedding day. You were laughing, and he was looking at you like a man who had somehow been given heaven.
He slept on cold floors. Fought his way through armed patrols. Bled into his boots. And whispered your name under his breath to remind himself what was waiting.
He lost count of the days.
But he never forgot your face.
When he finally escaped, when the light hit his skin again and the pain caught up to him there was only one place he wanted to be.
Home.
And when you opened that door looking like you’d been shattered and still loved him anyway he knew he’d made it.
“I’m not dead,” he whispered into your hair. “I’m home.”
Two days later, you found him in the kitchen. Shirtless. In plaid pajama pants. Humming to the radio and flipping pancakes with a spatula like a goof and you burst into tears.
Happy ones.
Because this the sunlight in his eyes, the butter on the stove, the safety in your chest this was real.
“I’ll make yours extra crispy,” he said, grinning. “You always steal mine anyway.” You threw your arms around him and kissed him until he laughed.
Later, he ran a bath, just how you liked it.
You slid into the tub together, your back to his chest, his arms wrapped around you. The water steamed around you like a cocoon. You rested your head on his shoulder, eyes fluttering shut.
He traced circles on your thigh with gentle fingers.
“You fell asleep like this all the time before,” he whispered.
“I was never more at peace than in your arms.”
He kissed your jaw. “You’ll never be out of them again.”
You turned, slowly, water rippling, and faced him.
“I love you.”
He cupped your cheek, eyes glassy. “Forever, doll.”
Later, curled in bed in one of his old henleys, you fell asleep with your head on his chest, listening to the rhythm of his heartbeat.
Bucky stayed awake just a little longer, brushing his thumb over your wedding ring.
Because you were safe.
Because he was home.
Because he came back to you.

The rain patters steadily against Y/N's window, matching her gloomy mood as she drops her backpack on the floor and collapses onto her bed. The weight of the day—no, the entire week—presses down on her shoulders like a physical burden.
Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. Her research proposal was rejected by her advisor, who suggested she "rethink her academic priorities." She bombed the statistics midterm she'd studied three days straight for. Her laptop crashed, taking half her term paper with it. And the cherry on top: she'd just received a call from her mother, who casually mentioned that her ex-boyfriend from high school was now engaged to her former best friend.
Y/N stares at the ceiling, too exhausted even for tears. She should get up, make dinner, try to salvage what's left of her paper. Instead, she lies motionless, listening to the rain and feeling utterly alone.
The soft glow from the window across from hers catches her attention. Harry's room in the Sigma house lights up, and she can see him moving around, tossing his jacket on the bed and running a hand through his rain-dampened hair. Under normal circumstances, she'd quickly close her curtains to avoid his notice, but today she lacks the energy even for that small movement.
Harry spots her almost immediately, his face breaking into that familiar grin that usually precedes some form of teasing. He moves to his window, opening it despite the rain and cupping his hands around his mouth.
"Oi! Psychology girl!" he calls out. "You'll never guess what happened in Dr. Peterson's class today!"
Y/N sighs deeply but pushes herself up to a sitting position. Maybe Harry's ridiculous antics will provide a momentary distraction from the disaster that is her life. She opens her window reluctantly, the cool, damp air washing over her face.
"What, Harry?" she asks, her voice lacking its usual sharp edge.
Either not noticing or choosing to ignore her subdued tone, Harry launches enthusiastically into his story.
"So Peterson's going on about Freudian symbolism, right? And this freshman in the front row, complete kiss-ass, hand up for every question, he starts arguing that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." Harry's eyes dance with mischief. "And I say, loud enough for everyone to hear, 'But sometimes it's definitely not, mate, especially the way you're fondling that pen.'"
He pauses expectantly, clearly waiting for her usual eye-roll or cutting comeback. When none comes, he continues undeterred.
"The whole class lost it! Peterson tried to look disapproving, but I caught him smiling when he thought no one was looking. Even gave me a nod after class. Think I'm finally winning him over with my charming personality and deep analytical skills."
He strikes a pose, hand on his heart, looking so ridiculous that on any other day, Y/N might have cracked a smile despite herself. Today, however, the contrast between Harry's carefree attitude and her own misery only makes her feel worse.
"That's great, Harry," she says flatly, moving to close her window.
"Wait!" he calls, his smile faltering slightly. "I haven't even told you about how Louis accidentally set off the fire alarm during the pledge meeting. Or how I beat my own record at the gym today. Or—" he wiggles his eyebrows suggestively "—how I've been thinking about that green dress you almost wore to our rain-checked dinner."
It's the last comment that does it. The casual reminder of the dinner that never happened, the green dress she'd been so careful selecting, the entire emotional rollercoaster of that evening—it all crashes down on her at once. To her horror, Y/N feels her eyes fill with tears, which spill over before she can stop them.
"Just—" her voice breaks "—just leave me alone, Harry. Not today. Please."
Harry's playful expression vanishes instantly, replaced by genuine concern. "Y/N? What's wrong?"
She shakes her head, unable to articulate the accumulation of failures and disappointments. A sob escapes her, and she claps a hand over her mouth, mortified to be breaking down in front of him of all people.
"I'm fine," she manages unconvincingly, tears still streaming down her face. "Just go away."
She slams her window shut and yanks the curtains closed, then collapses back onto her bed, allowing the tears to flow freely now that she's hidden from view. She presses her face into her pillow, shoulders shaking with silent sobs.
Five minutes pass, then ten. The storm outside intensifies, rain lashing against the windows as thunder rumbles in the distance. Gradually, Y/N's sobs subside, leaving her feeling hollow and drained. She should get up, wash her face, try to be productive, But the bed holds her like quicksand, and she can't find the will to move.
A sharp knock at her apartment door startles her. Y/N freezes, hoping whoever it is will give up and leave. The knock comes again, more insistent this time.
"Y/N?" Harry's voice calls through the door. "I know you're in there. Open up."
Y/N sits up, staring at the door in disbelief. Why would he come here?
"Go away, Harry," she calls, wincing at how raspy her voice sounds from crying.
"Not happening," he responds immediately. "I'll stand out here all night if I have to. Your neighbors already think I'm weird. Oh, and the guy from 2D just gave me a very judgmental look on his way to the trash chute."
Despite everything, Y/N feels a tiny smile tug at her lips. She can picture Harry, soaking wet from the rain, charming his way into the building and now standing stubbornly at her door.
"I'm serious, Harry. I'm not in the mood for whatever this is."
There's a pause, then Harry's voice comes again, softer this time. "I brought ice cream. And those chocolate biscuits you pretend not to like but always steal from my plate in the dining hall."
Y/N stares at the door, torn between wanting to be left alone in her misery and being genuinely touched by the gesture. With a deep sigh, she pushes herself off the bed and crosses to the door, not bothering to check her appearance in the mirror. Harry has seen her cry now; a blotchy face and red-rimmed eyes hardly matter anymore.
She opens the door to find Harry standing there, hair dripping from the rain, holding a plastic grocery bag in one hand. His usual cocky expression is nowhere to be seen, replaced by genuine concern that only deepens when he takes in her tear-streaked face.
"Jesus, Y/N," he says softly. "What happened?"
The simple question, asked with such sincere worry, almost sets her off again. She steps back, allowing him to enter rather than answering immediately.
Harry follows her inside, closing the door behind him. He sets the grocery bag on her small kitchen counter and shrugs off his wet jacket, hanging it carefully over a chair. There's none of his usual swagger or teasing as he moves around her space with unexpected consideration.
"You didn't have to come over," Y/N says, wrapping her arms around herself. She's suddenly acutely aware that she's wearing old leggings with a hole in the knee and a Northwestern sweatshirt that's seen better days.
Harry looks at her, his expression uncharacteristically serious. "Yes, I did."
He begins unpacking the grocery bag: a pint of Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Therapy, a package of the imported chocolate biscuits from the international foods section of the campus store, a bottle of red wine, and—surprisingly—a small bunch of daisies, slightly bent from being stuffed in the bag.
"The flowers were an impulse buy," he explains, looking almost embarrassed. "The cashier was judging my ice cream and alcohol purchase pretty hard. Thought they might make me seem less like an alcoholic with a sweet tooth."
A small laugh escapes Y/N, surprising both of them.
"There she is," Harry says with a gentle smile, holding out the slightly crushed flowers. "Want to tell me what's going on?"
Y/N takes the daisies, twirling them between her fingers. "It's nothing. Just... a bad day."
Harry raises an eyebrow, clearly not buying it. "A bad day makes you sniffle a bit during a sad commercial. Whatever this is—" he gestures to her tear-stained face "—is more than a bad day."
He moves to her kitchenette, opening drawers until he finds a glass that he fills with water for the flowers. His easy familiarity in her space should irritate her, but somehow it doesn't.
"You don't have to talk about it," he continues, locating spoons for the ice cream. "We can just eat our feelings and get drunk on cheap wine. But if you want to talk... I'm told I'm a surprisingly good listener when I'm not being an insufferable prat."
The self-deprecating comment draws another small smile from Y/N. She watches as Harry efficiently opens the ice cream and pours two glasses of wine, all without his usual performative flourishes or innuendos.
"It's just been..." she starts, then sighs heavily. "Everything's falling apart. My proposal got rejected. I failed my stats midterm. My laptop crashed with my paper on it. And my high school boyfriend is marrying my ex-best friend."
She hadn't meant to share all that, but once she starts, the words tumble out. Harry listens quietly, handing her a glass of wine when she finishes.
"Well, that's properly shit," he says simply. "All of it."
His straightforward acknowledgment of her problems, without immediately trying to fix them or minimize them, loosens something in Y/N's chest. She takes a sip of wine, grateful for its warmth spreading through her.
"Yeah," she agrees. "It is."
Harry guides her to the small couch, setting the ice cream container between them with both spoons stuck in it.
"For what it's worth," he says, digging his spoon into the chocolate therapy, "your ex is an idiot. And your advisor probably has a stick up his arse the size of Big Ben."
Y/N laughs softly, taking her own spoonful of ice cream. "Dr. Winters is a woman, but yes, definitely something large and uncomfortable lodged up there."
Harry grins, and for a moment, they eat in comfortable silence. The rain continues to drum against the windows, but the sound feels cozy now rather than depressing.
"You know," Harry says eventually, "I failed my first university exam. Back in London, before I transferred here."
Y/N looks at him in surprise. "You did?"
He nods, taking another sip of wine. "Spectacularly. Like, set-a-new-record-low kind of failed. My professor actually called me into his office to ask if I was feeling alright or if I'd suffered a recent head injury."
Despite herself, Y/N smiles at the image.
"What happened?" she asks.
Harry shrugs. "I panicked. Stayed up all night studying, then my brain just... empty. Completely blank during the exam." He twirls his wine glass thoughtfully. "I was so embarrassed I didn't tell anyone. Just smiled and nodded when my mates asked how it went."
"What did you do?" Y/N asks, genuinely curious about this glimpse into a less confident Harry.
"Wallowed for about a week," he admits. "Considered dropping out, changing my name, maybe becoming a shepherd in the Scottish highlands."
Y/N laughs, the sound more natural this time. "A shepherd?"
"I look good in wool," he defends with a mock-serious expression, before his face softens again. "But then I talked to my sister. She's always been the smart one in the family. And she told me something I've never forgotten."
He sets down his wine glass and turns to face Y/N fully, his expression earnest.
"She said, 'Harry, failure isn't falling down. It's refusing to get back up again.'"
Y/N absorbs this, feeling something shift in her perspective. She's always seen Harry as someone who glides effortlessly through life—charming, confident, unbothered by the academic pressures that weigh on her. The idea that he's faced similar struggles and insecurities is both surprising and oddly comforting.
"So what did you do?" she asks.
"I got back up," he says simply. "Went to the professor, asked for extra help, studied my ass off for the next exam. Still didn't get top marks, but I passed." He smiles, a genuine smile without his usual cockiness. "And more importantly, I learned I could handle failing without it being the end of the world."
Y/N nods slowly, understanding dawning. "Is that why you're always so... confident? Because you know you can handle it if things go wrong?"
Harry considers this, head tilted thoughtfully. "Maybe partly. But also—" he grins suddenly, a flash of his usual self "—I'm just naturally charming and devastatingly handsome. Can't help that part."
Y/N rolls her eyes, but she's smiling now—a real smile that reaches her eyes.
"And there's the Harry Styles I know," she says dryly. "I was starting to worry you'd been replaced by a surprisingly decent human being."
"Nope, still me," he assures her, popping the 'p' sound. "Just showing you the premium version. Limited time offer, exclusive to crying girls with good taste in ice cream."
They fall into a comfortable rhythm after that, sharing the ice cream and wine as the conversation flows more easily than it ever has between them. Harry tells stories about his childhood in Holmes Chapel, his sister Gemma, and his decision to study abroad. Y/N finds herself reciprocating, sharing anecdotes about growing up with strict parents and her passion for psychology.
As the ice cream disappears and the wine bottle empties, Y/N realizes that her earlier despair has receded. It's not gone completely, her problems still exist, but they no longer feel insurmountable.
"I should probably go," Harry says eventually, noticing the late hour. "Let you get some rest."
Y/N nods, walking him to the door. There's an awkward moment as they stand there, neither quite sure how to end this unexpected evening.
"Thank you," she says finally, meeting his eyes. "For the ice cream and the wine. And... everything else."
Harry smiles, softer than his usual grin. "Anytime, psychology girl. I mean that."
He hesitates, then reaches out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, his touch gentle. "For what it's worth, I think you're brilliant. One setback doesn't change that."
The simple sincerity of his words catches Y/N off guard. There's no teasing, no hidden agenda, just honest appreciation that makes her chest feel warm.
"Even if I'm not in a sorority?" she asks lightly, referencing his protest after she'd beaten him at Game Night.
Harry laughs. "Even then. Though it does make it harder to justify why I let you keep winning at poker."
"Let me?" Y/N raises an eyebrow. "I believe I earned those victories fair and square."
"That's what I let you believe," he says with a wink, and just like that, they're back on familiar ground, the teasing banter that defines their relationship.
Except it's not quite the same anymore. Something has shifted between them tonight, a new understanding that can't be undone.
"Goodnight, Harry," Y/N says softly.
He nods, stepping into the hallway. "Goodnight, Y/N."
As she closes the door behind him, Y/N leans against it, a small smile playing on her lips. Her problems haven't disappeared—tomorrow she'll still need to rewrite her paper, talk to her advisor, and study for her next exam. But somehow, they all seem more manageable now.
She moves to her window, pulling back the curtain just in time to see Harry crossing the street back to the Sigma house, hunched against the rain. As if sensing her watching, he looks up, catching sight of her at the window. He gives her a small wave, which she returns before letting the curtain fall back into place.
Y/N turns to survey her apartment—the empty ice cream container, the wine glasses, the slightly crushed daisies now standing in a water glass on her counter. Physical evidence of the evening that has somehow transformed her worst day into something unexpectedly meaningful.
For the first time since meeting Harry Styles, Y/N finds herself looking forward to seeing what happens next between them—not dreading their next encounter or planning her defensive strategies, but genuinely curious about the person behind the cocky exterior he shows the world.

My Treasure Chest 💎
ft : Haruka Sakura , Hayato Suo , Akihiko Nirei , Mitsuki Kiryu , Sugishita Kyotarou. (Furin first years in short)
Tumblr media
Haruka Sakura
This boy probably was aware of the close proximity before it even happened.
His back was facing you and he turned around. But at that moment you were walking forward and boom... His hand crashed with your chest. ACCIDENTALLY. I repeat , accidentally.
He goes O.O first then goes in order like this ; powder pink , hot pink , tomato red , cherry red. You are worried if he even is breathing anymore.
Won't apologize , won't acknowledge anything that happened , won't even listen to you when you try to ask what happened or that it was okay and you understood it. Will straight up dash out of the door and you never see him for the next week.
Hayato Suo
You were walking around the town with him and other Furin boys , they were strolling and you were just tagging around.
Then a raid happens to the town. You guys were caught off guard so Suo just gently grabs your shirt and pulls you behind him hurriedly. But that part of your shirt happens to be your chest. In the heat of the moment , neither of you paid attention to it that much.
But later at night , he is tossing and turning around in his bed , or just straight up staring at the ceiling. He tries not to be perverted but he can't help and think like "okay it's embarrassing but come on , it was so soft. and besides she is my gf. it wouldn't be that weird if i liked her body right ?"
Akihiko Nirei
This man loves animals but he wasn't prepared for a sneak attack ; when a dog came out of a side road silently until near you and barked very loudly in his ears , making him jump into air and launch himself at you. If it was animated , that scene would have electricity flying around him due to the sudden startle.
He hugs (!) you for dear life. Which in fact is him clutching at your chest while his face is buried in your neck in fear. You have to warn him that the dog is gone. When he lifts his face he sees your rightfully blushed cheeks then where his hands are placed.
He is blushing even more than you do. Immediately backs away but unlike Sakura he tries to apologize. Key word : tries. "I am sorry. Very very sorry. I didn't mean todkjsnzhdnzjangeknzjsnzudbzjd" is probably what you will hear.
Mitsuki Kiryu
You were walking through shopping malls with him on a date when you tripped over a shoelace and fell on top of him.
He didn't fall to the ground with force and held you instead. But unfortunately in that moment , it happened to be at your chest.
He is aware of what he did but it was accidental so he doesn't see anything wrong and knows you will understand. So he doesn't really talk about it.
Will pull his hand back. Not too slow that it will make him look like he is taking advantage of the situation. But also not fast enough that it will make you realize it and be embarrassed. Perfect pace and a perfect face-d gentleman.
Then proceeds to kneel down and casually tie your sholaces so you don't fall down again , while you are over there having a cardiac arrest.
Sugishita Kyotaro
Okay i am going to be honest here , no matter how tall you may be , this man is probably 2 you put on top of each other. So how did his hand get into contact with your chest remains a mystery.
When he realizes , he doesn't react immediately. He pulls his hand back slowly and walks away. Scowling and growling embarrassedly like a baby lion.
If anyone else dares to say sth on it , he goes "I'll crush you" with the most Sakura-like blush ever. After that blush , no one takes him seriously. (Ma poor boi)
Doesn't get into your personal area for the whole rest of the week, even just for a simple hug or holding hands. Because he remembers what happened and how it felt when people teased him , so he will AVOID living that embarrassment again.

Inside of Alexandria’s walls, you found yourself sitting cross-legged on the bedroom floor, cleaning Daryl’s arrows with care. He was due to leave in an hour, gone for a week long supply run to scout a few outposts, and you were trying your best to make sure he was ready for every possible scenario.
“You sure you got everything?” you asked without looking up, your voice light but focused.
“Yeah,” Daryl grunted from behind you. He was zipping up his pack, fingers working faster than his thoughts. “‘Preciate you cleanin’ those.”
“You always forget to,” you teased, tilting your head with a grin.
He made a low noise in his throat, something between an amused scoff and an affectionate grumble, and you swore you saw the corner of his mouth twitch. Just a little.
As you reached for the last arrow, it rolled slightly beneath the edge of the bed frame. Huffing, you leaned down to fish it out. That’s when your fingers grazed something else entirely.
Paper.
You paused, curiosity bubbling up as you slid the object into the light.
It was a sheet of paper. Aged, a little worn, but surprisingly intact.
Lines—tally marks?
Dozens upon dozens. Carefully etched little lines grouped in fives, stretching across the entire page. You furrowed your brow, turning it gently. What was he counting?
Before your thoughts could go deeper, Daryl’s voice cut in.
“Somethin’ wrong?” he asked, shouldering his crossbow.
You startled and shook your head, slipping the paper back where you’d found it.
“Nope! Just a loose sock,” you lied quickly, standing and brushing your hands on your pants. “Here. You’re all set.”
He took the bundle of arrows from you with a quiet “thanks,” and leaned in to press a soft kiss to your temple. “Back in a week. Maybe sooner if m’scoutin’ goes good.”
“I’ll be waiting,” you said, smiling at him as he headed out the door.
And you meant it.
A week passed.
You tried not to count the days, but you did anyway. You told yourself it was fine, he always came back.
And then finally, the front door creaked open.
“Daryl?” you called, dropping the can you were holding. Your feet carried you fast, arms already open when you saw him.
He looked tired but alive, crossbow slung over one shoulder, dirt on his boots, and wildflowers—wildflowers?
Your heart just about exploded.
The other hand held a folded piece of paper.
You barely gave him a second to speak before you launched yourself at him, hugging him so tightly he made a soft grunt. “You’re back,” you whispered into his neck. “God, I missed you.”
“Missed you too, sweet girl,” he murmured into your hair, burying his nose there for a beat. He smelled like leather and woods and a little bit of dust.
You pulled back just enough to look at the flowers. “What are these?”
He shifted his weight and looked suddenly a little shy, gaze flickering away. “Uh. Anniversary.”
You blinked. “…Anniversary?”
“Yeah.” He reached behind his neck awkwardly, scratching there like he was embarrassed. “One year. Since the prison.”
You stared at him, eyes wide, mouth parted. “Wait, what? How do you know it’s been—how did you even keep track?”
Daryl chewed the inside of his cheek, then motioned for you to follow him.
He led you back to your room, and knelt beside the bed. Reaching under it, he pulled out the sheet of paper you’d found days ago.
Tally marks.
He held it up for you, tapping the page once. “Started countin’ when we got together. Thought maybe you’d wanna celebrate it if we made it this far.”
Your throat closed up instantly.
“You’ve been counting every single day?” you whispered, fingers trembling as you reached for the paper.
He nodded, jaw tight, like he was unsure if it was too much. “Didn’t wanna forget. Kept it where I knew I wouldn’t lose it.”
You sat down slowly on the edge of the bed, staring down at the lines. “This is the most romantic thing I’ve ever seen,” you said, voice cracking with emotion.
Daryl looked at you, eyes soft and earnest. “I don’t got much. Ain’t good with… stuff like this. But I been thinkin’ about it for a while. Wrote you somethin’, too.”
He held out the folded paper, the letter. Your fingers brushed his as you took it, heart thudding in your chest.
Unfolding it, you found his handwriting, messy but careful, clearly written slowly, like he wanted every word to land the right way.
I ain’t never been good at sayin’ things. You know that.
But I wanted to try, ’cause it’s been a whole damn year and you’re still here. Still with me.
Didn’t think anyone would ever stick ’round this long.
Didn’t think I was the kinda man someone like you could love.
But you did.
And you do.
I been thinkin’ a lot while I’m out on the road. About how you laugh with your whole chest, how your hands always find mine when I’m feelin’ too far gone, how you talk to me like I’m worth somethin’. Like I matter.
No one ever made me feel like that.
You make the world feel soft again.
Safe, even when it ain’t.
I watch you sleep sometimes, hell, that sounds weird, but I do. Just to remind myself you’re real. That I got this lucky. That someone like you looks at someone like me and sees more than dirt and scars and bad habits.
You ain’t just my home.
You’re the only good thing I ever had that didn’t try to leave.
And I swear, if I gotta keep countin’ the days just to remember how far we’ve come, I will. I’ll fill up every damn piece of paper I find.
I love you.
More than I know how to say.
I ain’t lettin’ go.
—D.
By the time you finished, you were crying.
He sat next to you and, wordlessly, you leaned into his chest, pressing the note against your heart.
“I don’t need flowers or letters or tally marks,” you said softly, tears wetting his vest. “Just you, Daryl. Just you.”
“Still wanted to give it to you,” he said quietly, wrapping an arm around your waist.
You pulled back just enough to kiss him. Slow, sweet, deep.
When your lips finally parted, you rested your forehead to his. “One year.”
“One year,” he echoed, voice husky.
“And a hundred more.”
He gave the softest smile. “Better start another paper then.”
