the romance scene between Hans and Henry in kcd2 has gripped my brain in its teeth and will not let it go. not just because the absolutely incredible romantic and sexual tension between these two finally comes to a point of climax (ha) and that point is narratively earned, but because it is exhilarating and refreshing to essentially watch our speech check to kiss Hans fail. this was masterfully written. Henry in this moment is struggling, is immobilized — by risk, by fear, by disbelief that his feelings are returned… however you want to interpret it. he wants to kiss Hans, but he can’t. so he makes his promises, and he gets up to leave, and it’s Hans, ultimately, who reaches for him, who kisses him, who is brave when Henry is weak, who has agency when the playable character gives up his. my little queer jaw dropped to the floor over how realistic and painful and tender this whole scene was. you know, having been there myself, having been afraid of hell, and having been terrified of the even greater hell of being rejected by the one you adore.

there is also the incredible intimacy in the allegorical confession from Hans, where he fits a mythic story into the gap where words fail. I love that on the eve of this desperate last plan, he reaches out and grasps for the reference of Lancelot and Galehaut to convey the intense love and devotion he feels for him, knowing that if Henry doesn’t return, he’ll be beside himself with grief, and his life will lose all meaning.

can’t help but think of the Epic of Gilgamesh here (er, I am always thinking about the Epic of Gilgamesh) — of Gilgamesh’s grief at the loss of Enkidu: “I will let my hair grow long for your sake, I will wander through the wilderness in the skin of a lion.” Hans’ offering of allegory to stand in for the magnitude of his love for Henry is just so achingly beautiful, because where else do we look for explanation of our most profound and inexplicable experiences of love and loss but in stories?

Marauders everyone lives au but everyone still drifts apart.

James and lily spend all their time raising Harry and don't have enough time to keep in touch. They don't leave, never on purpose, but it's clear that it's time to move on.

Remus and Sirius move in together, only to break up, and move away.

Remus leaves London, goes back to Wales, and reconnects with old friends and family, he's more at home there.

Sirius frequents bars and clubs more then he does the dusty apartment he bought after he moved out from remus'. He stumbles into regulus and they get talking, reconnecting healing.

Regulus is working as a potioneer, making good money, not that he needs it, it's a lonely life, but he doesn't have a problem with helping sirius out the oceon of addiction and alcohol.

Mary moves back in with her parents, meets the love of her life, a muggle, and leaves the wiziarding world behind.

Marlene and Dorcas live together, get married, travel the world, they get the happy ending they planned. With or without the people they thought they'd share it with.

Barty gets sick and Evan stays by his deathbed the entire time, doesn't matter how much support he gives, he can't save Barty from deaths call.

Peter remains the biggest surprise of them all, he joins the ministry and climbs ranks like nobody's seen before, he becomes the minister of magic in 1990 and leads the wiziarding world into its prime.

It's not that they don't talk, they do. Over a pint at the odd pub, not as often as they would have, not since sirius got sober, but enough that the good memories are there. They realise, eventually, that it was a good run, but it wasn't going to last forever. Maybe it would. One day. In another universe.

But not this one.
