i was just thinking that i don't really write so i'd have to post my WIP Zena drawing (that i was working on for the @/just-some-guy-joust oc tournament!!) BUT then i remembered that. i do. it's just usually informal and in my dms. so here, have a moment of corny raw dialogue:

"...I have never been happier in my life, and I... plan on staying by your side for as long as my lifespan allows for it."

(it's not technically romantic but it IS very intensely queerplatonically charged. a strange "secret third thing relationship" type of confession scene. the devotion and commitment is there for sure)

this line is maybe the most embarrassing to share without the context though since it's the corny finale to a long winded confession that basically starts with "actually, you've had my unwavering loyalty ever since you helped me cover up my impulsive murder of your father, and the strength of that devotion to you has only grown from there". like it looks so generic but i promise it's just the nice little bow on top of a more interesting conversation.

i have very few mutuals actually but I'll tag @lightbucky and @glitterkeecher ! and open invitation to anyone else as always!! (and you're welcome to tag me in the new post too because I'd love to see!!) just if you're interested though! (and if not the most recent line, maybe you can pick a favorite from a recent work?? (i am pretty curious to see what glitterkeecher would highlight from b!tcst to be honest.) rules are only meant to be followed as long as you get something out of it i think)

although they skitter on the walls in parabola all the time, reisz hasnt quite gotten the hang of doing the same beyond the mirror yet. for now the most they can do involves holding themself up and spidering on the ceiling by breaking it rather than the actual bending of any gravity laws. newbie RS artisan, pwease be patient

Echo and the Cadet Batch Chapter 9: Meeting the Vode (Part Three)

Summary of Chapter 9: Cody, Boil, Waxer, and the others are brought into the secret and things with the baby Batch get more chaotic as it becomes harder to keep them quiet. It turns out that not many haven’t already found out about the baby commandos on board.

For an instant, Rex fought the urge to scold Cody for his language in front of the littles. Then everything started happening too quickly for him to give it another thought.

“Cody!?” 

The four little voices rang out simultaneously, their tones an ecstatic melody of disbelief and excitement. The patter of small feet thundered across the floor as each cadet tried to beat his brothers to the stunned commander.

Wrecker, having the longest legs at this age, was unsurprisingly the winner. “Cody!” he shouted again, his unrestrained joy making Hardcase and Jesse both grin in the background.

Cody remained frozen just inside the threshold, his jaw hanging open and his hands a little in front of him, spread out in shock. For a moment, Rex wondered if he really had broken his ori’vod.

Then Wrecker skidded to a stop in front of the commander, wrapped his arms around his armored thighs, and picked him up clear off the floor in a tight hug. “You’re here!” he yelped.

Cody jerked back to life, eyes widening in alarm as his combat boots left the tile. “Wrecker–!” his warning cry was cut off as he tipped forward.

Wrecker may have been able to crush his favorite reg into an off-the-ground hug on Kamino, but Commander Cody was no longer the cadet the young 99s knew. In the present, he was nearly two hundred pounds of muscle and grit, not to mention that except for his helmet, he was still wearing all ninety pounds of kit. And all of that weight was too much for the much shorter Wrecker to handle. Rex caught a glimpse of the big cadet’s surprised eyes and the way his lips parted in a shocked o right before he and Cody went crashing to the ground.

“Wrecker!” Rex was in motion before the word left his mouth, already leaping to pull the commander off the smaller cadet. It wasn’t that he didn’t care about Cody at the moment… he just cared about Wrecker more. 

He was man enough to admit that part of it was self-preservation. He didn’t want to be the one to face an angry Echo if one of his vod’ikas got hurt.

It was a needless concern, a fact he realized as soon as he heard the giggles coming from beneath a still-surprised Cody, who was scrambling to get up. 

“You got heavy !” Wrecker laughed. As Cody fell backward onto his rear end, the cadet rolled over and giggled again, eyes sparkling merrily. His gaze grew awed when he focused on Cody’s face. “Hey, you got a scar, too!”

Cody reflexively reached up to touch the scar that carved a c around his eye, his gaze never leaving the cadet. “Wrecker,” he said plainly. “Rex, that’s Wrecker .”

Rex was trying to hold back his own amusement now. It wasn’t often he got to see Cody this thrown out of sorts. The poor commander was completely buffaloed by what he was seeing, sprawled on the floor with a pitiable expression of confusion etched onto his face “Yeah, I know. It was kinda hard to miss.”

unfortunately they are my original characters (or more specifically, the character submitting the ask is mine, while the young man he works for belongs to @glitterkeecher ), so there isn't really a cohesive storyline available for them publicly yet

fortunately though, I am practicing writing more seriously so that I can actually start posting about them on my blog @spark-ocblog , and eventually I would really like to publish a book with them!

If there's genuine interest in this kind of thing, the particular storyline in that submission was one of the first that I was planning to write down formally for practice, so I could definitely consider posting it when I do!

The base storyline is that the author of the ask, an infamous murderer who is actually a vampire and assassin, mutually agrees to switch places/bodies with a parallel universe self who is human nobility. After acclimating rather poorly to high society, he eventually draws the curiosity of a prince who can tell he is acting strange for a noble. This interest is passive as first, but eventually culminates in the submitter seeing the king alluding to his abuse of the prince, with the prince silently hoping that the submitter might notice and help him in the future— the submitter ends up killing the king on the spot. The prince, shocked, helps him cover up the murder, then hires him as an advisor to really tie up any loose ends.

On my oc blog, the prince, Aine, is tagged with "#oc: 🩵", and the submitter, Orion, is tagged with "#oc: 🖤"!

EDIT: some media I could recommend with perhaps similar dynamics (though significantly less wholesome. sorry) are I Need To Suck Blood Tonight (which I read, paid, on Mangaplaza), Scum Villain's Self Saving System (which I have just finished volume 3 of, free, on The Internet Archive— this is the one that inspired my ask, actually!), and maybe The Captive Prince (which i read as physical novels from my local bookstore). Very severe content warnings are needed for that last one especially, but fair warning that SVSSS isn't particularly gentle on the themes either. I don't think I'm personally well equipped to provide these warnings in a general sense, so I mostly recommend just proceeding with caution or looking up things about them if you intend to read them!

In particular, INTSBT features a kind of repressed and naive old man who is somewhat subservient to a kind of fucked up guy in his 20s; SVSSS's similarity to the submission is hard to describe without spoilers, but it features a transmigrator who has some really interesting and dramatic power dynamics that end up balancing themselves out pretty well (in my opinion). Captive Prince doesn't have any sweet naive old men in it, but it does have some really interesting, if occasionally gruesome, character dynamics. And the writing is absolutely stellar if you can stomach the themes.

y'know... for a setting that places so much importance in Language and does so many ice cool things playing with it (Correspondence/Discordance, Parabola & Irem, etc) i think there's a bit of a missed opportunity when it comes to the terms and words people use in their day to day life... like for example:

do you think radical revolutionaries would avoid words like "enlightening" in their vocabulary and flip them for LON-appropriate counterparts to signal their beliefs?

like substituting the word "light" with "blight". lol

similarly, pet names relating to light like "sunshine" kinda have a whole extra flavour tied to them, leaning into nostalgia, melancholy and/or danger depending on the people using it. irony, even

"honey" as a pet name also has extra connotations now and might actually bother some people instead due to the association with the drug...

do you think SMEN, taboo as it is, and seeking being a recognizable phenomenon even to the common londoner, would spawn swear words and insults? (imagine the weight of telling someone to Go Seek or Fall Down a Well)

the word "well" itself. well as an adverb, interjection, adjective. just. think about it. think about what it represents. idk something is happening to this word for sure
