I hate being the person to say this, but "serial killer alters" seems to be the most common portrayal of DID, which isn't just inaccurate (most people with DID are more likely to be victims or harm themselves than to hurt others), but also a harmful stereotype to a group of people who rarely get positive rep in the media anyway.

I'm not saying to not write about did but I highly recommend looking more into the disorder, especially from people who have it, before going further. There's a fair amount of youtubers who share their personal stories about it.

Although I feel like the amnesia thing can still be used in a story, perhaps a detective has a serious addiction and is committing serious crimes while under the influence? Or perhaps hypnosis or mind control could play a part?

Idea

Dissociative personality syndrome, also known as dissociative personality disorder also known as dissociative identity disorder is the modern name for multiple personality disorder. It consists of two or more distinct personalities and is facilitated by a severe memory loss problem. The latter is essential because if people could easily remember how they were acting the personalities wouldn’t be entire distinct. Authors sometimes make use of this when crafting their stories. An interesting and possibly eerie story idea would be to have a detective pursuing a serial killer only to discover that the murderer was himself in his alternate personality.

I’ve been looking into descendents because it seems pretty interesting and one thing I find kind of odd is the lack of focus given to non villain and their children who are on the Isles. What I mean is like all those people just living their lives during ‘Rotten to the core’ they all seem like pretty normal people who most likely just chose the wrong side. Do you have any thoughts of headcanons about them if you don’t mind me asking?

TBH, I doubt that the any future Descendants movies are going to address it. They seem to be going in the direction where, instead of placing blame on the people of Auradon, the lesson/theme/etc. is going to remain, “The Isle kids were evil (despite literally doing nothing to be considered as such), but it’s okay because now they can change themselves to fit Auradon’s standards and be good :)”. But, I think your right. They probably didn’t commit as evil crimes as the bigger villains, like Maleficent or the Evil Queen, but were placed on the Isle anyways.
