hey! i've always believed in early Larry but recently have fallen down a rabbit hole about babygate and am convinced. i'm just stuck on a few points and was wondering if there are any theories.

1) what happened on the day of the 'birth'? if he is brett's child born from surrogacy, how did they get briana's name on the birth certificate and either get the baby into the hospital without alerting staff there that briana was not pregnant OR have had a non-pregnant briana stay in hospital for days. what are the theories on how they orchestrated the hospital stay logistically? surely it would've been easier to claim she wanted a home birth. also not sure if they rented a room in the hospital and just kind of camped out there?

2) is there any evidence of Louis being a present father to Freddie? the main reason i started to question the media narrative was that it seems like Louis rarely sees him and in AOTV it almost seemed awkward, like the child didn't really know him. adjacent to that, is there any evidence that Eleanor, who was supposedly with him for FIVE years post-babygate, ever met his son? after all the fuss about danielle vs briana and danielle mentioning her by name in interviews, not even a fluff article about step mum life and loving him? it seems like they forgot to account for parts of the narrative - on the surface, it seems fine but it falls apart on inspection.

1- I have two tags you might want to check out to see if they answer your questions: BIRTH CERTIFICATE and SURROGATE. But to sum it up, I don’t think it's as complicated as it seems. We don’t actually know what’s on the official birth certificate, no one does. What we saw was a copy of it, and it had a lot of inconsistencies. Personally, my guess is that the birth certificate was never even filed at the state level, and the names of the legal parents (Brett and Tammi) are likely on it. If Louis and Briana’s names are there officially, it would follow the typical process for surrogacy pregnancies, and I fully believe Freddie is unrelated to the surrogate. So the intended parents would be listed on the birth certificate regardless, so there were no special logistics involved at the hospital or anything like that.

2- Louis’ involvement in Freddie’s life started around 2021, and that's undeniable, even if you believe he's Freddie’s biological father. It’s interesting how some people claim we can’t know whether Louis was present for Freddie or how often they saw each other, but then they use it as proof when they are together later on. There’s definitely been a noticeable shift in Louis’ behaviour... he completely ignored Freddie’s existence for years. He never spoke about him. And then, all of a sudden, they're all over the place together, and Louis can't stop mentioning him. So, there’s at least something odd about it. As for Eleanor, the only time we saw them in the same place was at Louis’ LA show, which was being recorded for AOV. They were kind of in the same booth but on different sides, so there was some overlap, but that’s the closest interaction we’ve seen. Babygate became more consistent after Louis and Eleanor broke up and before they got back together in 2017. During all their time together, there was no babygate, basically!

Conservationists on Wednesday sued the Trump administration over its attempts to boost the oil industry by rolling back green policies.

Filed by the environmental non-profit Center for Biological Diversity, the litigation focuses on Trump’s day-one “unleashing American energy” executive order. In an effort to boost already booming US energy production, the emergency declaration directed federal agencies to identify all policies and regulations that “unduly” burden fuel producers and create “action plans” to weaken or remove them.

The lawsuit seeks information about the development of these action plans from four federal agencies: the Department of the Interior, the Department of Commerce, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service.

Since the executive order was passed, the administration has announced plans to eliminate scores of other green policies. Last week, for instance, it emerged that the EPA plans to eliminate long-standing requirements for polluting companies to collect and report their greenhouse gas emissions, ProPublica reported.

The legal challenge follows a February request for information filed by the advocacy group under the Freedom of Information Act (Foia), for which officials have not yet provided any records.

“Given the substantial implications for air and water, wildlife and nature, climate, public lands, and the environment generally through the development of energy resources,” the lawsuit says, “the Center is deeply interested in, and affected by, how the action plans implementing the Executive Order could harm, undermine, or negate the Center’s longstanding efforts to protect the environment.”

The lawsuit comes as federal agencies have slashed protections for public lands, approved air pollution permits for fossil fuel-processing facilities without environmental reviews, and gutted slews of green policies and spending plans while firing thousands of civil servants.

It also follows record donations to Trump’s presidential campaign from oil, gas and coal companies, sparking concerns of corruption. In a June meeting at his Mar-a-Lago club, Trump infamously asked fossil fuel bosses for $1bn in campaign contributions, while vowing to unravel dozens of Biden-era environmental policies.

“It seems obvious that polluters and other special interests are completely in the driver’s seat and probably ghost-writing all of Trump’s pro-fossil fuel directives,” said Brett Hartl, government affairs director at the Center for Biological Diversity. “Why else would Trump officials be so defiant about illegally keeping the public in the dark?”

The EPA declined to comment on the pending litigation. The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

Foia was an important tool for environmentalists during Trump’s first term. A request filed by the Sierra Club led to the former EPA administrator Scott Pruitt’s resignation, and records obtained by the Center for Biological Diversity led to an investigation by the inspector general of then interior secretary David Bernhardt.

Humanity's only hope is for you, starting on the similarly damned Excella outpost, to battle your way to the now-warped Earth and shut the gate down. Personally.

Mechadon made 2017 Cacoward winner Counterattack to take a break from Vela Pax, which was started so that he could take a break from Supplice. The moral of the story is that Harrell can't do anything without pouring every atom of craft that he has into it. MEK-CATK has four enormous, adventure-style levels and an omega slaughtermap to finish, with plenty of slaughter-adjacent scenarios on your way to the Flux Gate. If this is a bit much for you, then be sure to check out "Desiderium" (MAP31), which starts out more low-key.

ok so I’m finished with case 1!!

when playing aa5 and aa6 I said I didn’t like their first cases because they felt slow and yeah there’s still some of that here: I feel like there were a few points in the case that could’ve been cut out to make it feel a bit more concise - also as I mentioned before I find this case to be a little hand holdy in a way I don’t appreciate. like even in the first game you could still check the court record before mia tells you about it. here you have to wait to be told about the court record, or examining evidence, or pressing before you can actually do them and that’s not as fun. even if I was a first time player, I’m still someone who likes having the option to get to know the controls myself without being made to sit through an explanation before I can use them. and as someone who isn’t a first time player, it’s all extremely tedious from a gameplay standpoint.

with that all being said this is still my favourite case 1 I’ve played of the 3ds era games. it introduces the new characters very well and has a decently compelling case and villain. I liked the inclusion of a real poison - aa has the tendency to just make shit up to serve the story they want to tell which imo is fine but there was something that felt kinda special about googling curare when it came up and realising it, its effects and history were real.

this case also does a really good job in regards to setting up themes.

the meiji era setting clearly isn’t just for show, it seems the story has a lot to say about what westernisation meant for japan and who got prioritised because of it. this is shown in the constant protection of jezaille brett throughout the trial and the willingness to throw ryunosuke under the bus all because she’s an english woman. and then of course at the end of the case there’s the invocation of consular jurisdiction throwing into question whether she’ll truly ever face justice. its a very pointed historical critique, and it reminds me of how the first game was meant to be, first and foremost, a satirical commentary about the japanese legal system.

so yeah case 1 definitely shows a lot of potential and has me very interested to see where it’ll go from here! I’m enjoying it a lot so far!!

Supreme Court Overturns DOJ's Use of Key J6 Felony Court

JUN 28, 2024 In a devastating but well-deserved blow to the Department of Justice’s criminal prosecution of January 6 protesters, the U.S. Supreme Court today overturned the DOJ’s use of 18 USC 1512(c)(2), the most prevalent felony in J6 cases.

The statute, commonly referred to as “obstruction of an official proceeding,” has been applied in roughly 350 J6 cases; it also represents two of four counts in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s J6-related criminal indictment of Donald Trump in Washington. 

In a 6-3 decision, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote that the “c2” subsection is tethered to the “c1” subsection that addresses tampering with a record, document, or “object.”

From the opinion:

Roberts was joined by Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Ketanji Brown Jackson. Justice Amy Coney Barrett authored the dissent (!) joined by Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor.

Today’s decision means hundreds of Americans have been wrongfully prosecuted by Attorney General Merrick Garland as he insists his department is dedicated to upholding the “rule of law” and pursuing justice “without fear or favor.”

An Irreversible Black Eye for DOJ and Federal Courts in Washington

The matter originated in the case of Joseph Fischer, a Pennsylvania man who attended Trump’s speech and later went to the Capitol. According to court documents, Fischer briefly entered the building around 3:25 p.m., nearly an hour after the joint session of Congress to certify the electoral college votes had recessed. He exited about four minutes later.

In March 2021, a D.C. grand jury indicted Fischer on numerous counts including 1512(c)(2). The statute reads:

Whoever corruptly— 

(1) alters, destroys, mutilates, or conceals a record, document, or other object, or attempts to do so, with the intent to impair the object’s integrity or availability for use in an official proceeding; or 

(2) otherwise obstructs, influences, or impedes any official proceeding, or attempts to do so.

It is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Fischer, in addition to many J6ers facing the count, asked his judge to dismiss the charge. Judge Carl Nichols, appointed by Trump, dismissed the count against Fischer and two other defendants by finding the language in the post-Enron/Arthur Anderson statute covered tampering with records or documents not interrupting a meeting of Congress. The DOJ appealed Nichols’ decision.

In December, SCOTUS granted Fischer’s petition to grant cert seeking to reverse the appellate court’s mandate. Oral arguments were held on April 16.

Nichols is the only judge to have dismissed the count; 18 district and circuit court judges in Washington refused to dismiss the count. The judges essentially enabled the Biden DOJ’s unlawful pursuit of Americans who protested Biden’s election that day.

Roughly 110 J6ers have been sentenced to prison on 1512(c)(2) convictions; several J6ers were held under pretrial detention for being charged with the nonviolent obstruction count alone.

But despite the law’s legal limbo over the past year, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew Graves, a Biden appointee, continued to indict J6ers on 1512(c)(2) while some judges continued to sentence those convicted to lengthy prison terms. Last month, Beryl Howell, the former chief judge who upheld the 1512(c)(2) charges for defendants in her courtroom, sentenced a Missouri man to 60 months in prison for the 1512 conviction and assault on police.

In January 2022, Howell gave the green light for her colleagues to support the DOJ’s use of the obstruction count. Here is what she said in denying a motion to dismiss filed by two J6ers:

“For over 200 years, the peaceful transition of power from one presidential administration to another has been marked with Congress's certification of the Electoral College vote; and this event has been respectfully observed by American citizens, but not on January 6, 2021. And I start with this historical fact because what happened on January 6th was a chilling new type of criminal conduct to which our criminal laws have never before had to be applied. Application of criminal laws to conduct never before seen, like what occurred on January 6, 2021, appropriately generates the kind of legal questions the defendants raise here about whether the criminal law fits the charged criminal conduct.”

The first judge to uphold the obstruction charge in J6 cases was Trump-appointee Dabny Friedrich. In 2021, she agreed that interrupting a meeting of Congress met the definition of “official proceeding” and that the statute’s broad language did not require the government to prove the conduct involved tampering with records or documents.

Ironically—or not—Friedrich is married to Matthew Friedrich, a former DOJ official who worked on the Enron Task Force alongside Andrew Weissman and current deputy attorney general Lisa Monaco. The 1512(c)(2) statute was a product of the Enron/Arthur Anderson investigation; Weissmann, as the lead prosecutor for Special Counsel Robert Mueller in the bogus Russiagate probe, pushed the DOJ to charge Trump with 1512(c)(2) while in office.

Retired judge Thomas Hogan recently warned how a SCOTUS’s reversal of 1512(c)(2) would affect the DC courthouse. Here is Hogan, who upheld the statute in J6 prosecutions, with former DOJ official and FISAgate mastermind Mary McCord:

Reacting to the SCOTUS decision, Geri Perna, aunt of Matthew Perna, told me this by email:

“When Matthew was unexpectedly charged with the felony of Obstruction of an Official Proceeding—after initially facing only misdemeanors—his world collapsed. The weight of a potential lengthy prison sentence bore down on him, filling his days with insurmountable worry and anxiety. At that time, there was no glimmer of hope that this severe charge would be dropped.

Matthew has now been dead for 28 months. In the wake of his passing, the Supreme Court of the United States is finally set to rule on whether the Department of Justice wrongfully applied 1512(c)(2) in January 6 cases. As much as I am hopeful for a just ruling in favor of the January 6 defendants, I am consumed by a profound sense of loss and anger. My nephew's death was both avoidable and senseless.

I feel cheated, and if that sounds selfish, then so be it. The pain of losing Matthew under such circumstances is a burden I carry every day. I fervently hope that those responsible for wielding this charge erroneously will be held accountable in a court of law. However, I am not holding my breath.”

Stonybrook is a picturesque part of the Sunshine Lands, known for it's gentle rolling hills, babbling brooks, and shockingly clear night skies. Because of how clear the night skies are, the belief of wishing upon a star was an integral part of the community. Nowadays, light pollution makes it difficult, but the North star is still always visible when there are no clouds around, at least in the suburbs of the city.

Anyways, Stonybrook Community College is meant to be an opportunity for locals to attend post-secondary schooling without travelling as far or paying as much as they may have had to in order to attend other schools. (Or did not receive an invitation to NRC/RSA/NBC)

I'm so excited to be able to start writing the first chapter and I hope that you look forward to it! Be sure to add this book to your reading list or reblog to know when I update!

MOST IMPORTANT NOTE ; ( to those not familiar with the academy series by C.L. Stone )

I know I'm gaining more readers, those who aren't familiar with the academy, so I'll do a short explanation of what you'll be seeing from the academy!

In short, the academy series is a reverse harem/polyamory series set in Charleston, South Carolina.

( so you'll be seeing multiple men date the same women in this book, so don't be shocked lmfaoo )

The academy ( that MFC won't be much involved in ) is basically a top secret organization that specializes in helping men, women, and children who are in an abusive relationship or homes and help them get out of that — most join the academy to help others in the same situations.

There are teams that work together and are basically a family in all but blood; and "family is a choice".

The men in teams are referred to as "dogs" and the female team members are referred to as "birds". 'Ghosts', whether birds or dogs, are children without much history to their names. They are priceless to the Academy.

The Academy's system works on a series of favor and financial debt. Everyone in the Academy starts out with financial debt. It's the value of the education an Academy student requires to become the best at what he does. If it was a private investigation training class or an eight-week boot camp, or you were starving and needed groceries to get through a human biology class, the Academy took care of it. Your debt can't just be paid off directly, it requires completing various Academy missions. Whatever it is, there is a price tag.

Favors though are the real core of the Academy. Favors are anything that doesn't have a price - usually family problems within the Academy that other members can't handle alone. New members owe ten favors immediately, with the maximum owed being thirty. The value of a task in favors varies depending on the task.

All Academy trials are comprised of the same parties: the whole team, plus five randomly selected members from other teams, presided over by a manager who has collected all the data. There is no age minimum for the randomly selected members, the only requirement is that they had to be past initiation and a full member of the Academy. The ultimate goal at a trial is to keep the family together as much as possible.

Each team has two leads. The first is the main contact for the Academy, they track the jobs the members go on, and let them know what jobs are available. The second is the family lead, who keeps track of all the team members, and makes sure that everything runs smoothly for them - ensuring they have food, bills are paid on time, and everyone that needs a job has one.

Most of this information is from the academy wiki site ( 'cause it's fuckin' complicated to explain it all )

but I want you all to be able to understand it enough to enjoy the story without being confused!

Most of the time, I'll explain through River and my other characters.

I hope this makes sense!

River won't be very involved in the academy, but there will be mentions and most of River's story revolves around, not only Jungkook and Moon, but River's brothers, friends, and family!

Rain is second line of defence for social situations where the normal fronters are unable to front for whatever reason. Aca is not quite a social alter, doing the bare minimum to get through the situation without raising red flags. This doesn't mean that stude is mean or passive aggressive, rather that coze is lower energy than the normal fronters.

It’s been a while since Sylvie and Violet spent time together off shift. Even longer since Violet spent any considerable time in the presence of both Brett and Casey at the same time.

Tonight, they had an extra ticket to a concert Sylvie had been dying to attend for a Taylor Swift cover band that reimagined the singer’s work in big band or jazz styles. Violet isn’t a swiftie, but she’s always up for new experiences so she took the extra ticket. Originally, she thinks Casey’s sister was supposed to go with them, but she canceled for some reason. Some sort of teaching emergency.

To top it all off, this concert was a part of Brett’s birthday celebration. Her first birthday as a mom and her first time away from Julia for longer than a couple of hours since the baby officially became hers a handful of weeks ago. Confidentially, Casey confided in Violet that he wanted it to be special and so full that Sylvie never had a moment to feel anxious over leaving Julia with Cindy and Herrmann for the evening.

Violet admired his ambition and effort. Even though, in her heart of hearts, she knew no one could stop Sylvie from feeling anxious about leaving her daughter alone.

They’re on their way to the show now. They opted to take the El to save on the parking fee and time spent jammed up in traffic. Violet sits on one side of Brett with Casey on the other.

The recently engaged couple is sickeningly cute. Casey’s arm is slung over Sylvie’s shoulders, pulling her against him. She went willingly, slotting against him as if she was always meant to be there with her back molding to his side and her head resting in the crook of his neck. Casey turns so he can rest his lips against the crown of Sylvie’s head, kissing her sweetly.

Looking at them now, a person would never guess they’d ever been apart.

The train stops and the doors open, allowing a pregnant woman and her toddler to board. They all clock her as she enters the car and, like her, notice there aren’t any available seats.

Casey kisses Brett’s temple and then releases her. “I’m gonna go hold the rail over by the door and let this woman have my seat.”

“You’re amazing,” Sylvie praises, nodding approvingly.

“Let’s not get carried away,” he says with a fond chuckle. “I’m not a saint. It’s just the polite and decent thing to do.”

Sylvie watches him cross the train and point out his vacated seat to the woman with a besotted smile on her face before she scoffs and glances over at Violet. “Not a saint. Of course he’s a saint. I mean, look at him.”

Violet chuckles mutely, watching as the pregnant woman thanks Matt profusely and waddles her way toward them. “I see him. He’s great.”

“I can’t believe I ever thought I could do without him,” she says with a contented sigh. “I mean, what was I thinking? No one holds a candle to that man over there. Not for me anyway.”

Violet bites her bottom lip, an apology slowly clawing its way up her throat. She’s held it at bay so far, but her guilt grows larger every day. Even quicker than normal during the rare instances she’s directly confronted with how truly happy Matt makes her best friend these days.

Sylvie and Dylan were never going to work out. Not when Sylvie’s connection to Matt is as strong as it’s proven to be. Violet should have seen that sooner.

“I’m happy for you, bestie,” Violet says, linking her arm through Sylvie’s. “Since he came back into your life you’ve done nothing but glow.”

“Thank you.” Sylvie lays her head on Violet’s shoulder affectionately. “I felt like a part of me shut down after I broke it off with him. Like losing touch with him meant losing a piece of my heart. I should’ve known then that ending it was a mistake.”

That does it. Violet can’t hold off her apology any longer. Sylvie’s right. She should’ve seen it and she probably would have too if Violet hadn’t interfered.

“I should’ve known it too,” she says, sighing tiredly. “They way I kept pushing you toward Dylan…God, looking back I was so selfish, Sylvie. I’m sorry.”

“What? No, Violet, my struggles with my emotions aren’t on you. Matt and I had things we should’ve dealt with sooner and we ignored them. That’s on us. All you wanted was to see me happy. I get that.”

No, she really doesn’t. “It wasn’t just about you being happy though.”

Sylvie’s smile turns bittersweet. Her expression is empathetic and all knowing. It’s a look from her that’s potent on anyone, even perfect strangers. When Brett gives someone that look, they feel encouraged to spill all their secrets and struggles.

“I know,” Sylvie replies. “It’s okay. Grief manifests itself in all kinds of ways.”

“Dylan and Evan were friends and I guess I—I guess—“

“You wanted to hold onto that piece of him for as long as possible?”

“Yeah,” Violet agrees. “That’s a good way to phrase it. It goes to show you, never take advice from someone who’s falling apart. I was still spiraling hard when we first bumped into Dylan at the hospital. At the time, I thought all the pieces fit, you know? I know now I saw only what I wanted to see. I sent you a long way down the wrong path.”

“I started down that path long before we ran into Dylan, Violet,” Sylvie states, gently correcting her. “Cut yourself some slack. You were still reeling. I know what that can do to a person. Hell, I moved back home and intended to marry a man I barely knew after we lost Otis. My grief over him kept me from realizing I’d made the wrong choice for far too long. If anyone gets it, it’s me. It all worked out in the end. I have Matt, Julia, and the boys. I’m happier than I’ve been in a very long time. That’s all that matters.”

“I guess so.” She wishes she could say the same but, while she’s through the worst of her grief, she’s far from happy.

“You’re gonna find that too, partner,” Sylvie assures her, as if she’s read Violet’s mind. “I know it. No matter what that happiness looks like for you, I am certain it’ll happen. You’re the best so you deserve the best.”

No, Sylvie’s the best. The amount of grace she extends to everyone around her is practically miraculous. “I already have the best friend I could ask for,” Violet says, giving Sylvie a pointed look. “And that’s all the happiness I need for now.”

As cheesy as it sounds, it’s a truth Violet feels deep in her bones. Sylvie’s friendship will always be the gift that keeps on giving.

@alice-dyers-spouse @just-prime Finally got around to a proper Silas backstory :3 unfortunately I haven’t figure out how he and Bret would have met

Silas only had his father growing up, who became an alcoholic after Silas’s mother left when he was about 7 or 8. He was never abusive, but he drank far too much and ended up unintentionally neglecting his son. Silas for his part, wanted nothing more to cheer up and take care of his father, so he’d clean up after him, cook what he could, and bring him gifts occasionally. They lived in an old trailer home, one that hadn’t been redone since the 70s or 80s, only kept up to the bare minimum, so the walls were crappy wood paneling, the carpet a dingy sort of brown, now worn down and thread bare in spots. The majority of the furniture is original, a saggy old earth toned couch and chairs, or cheap old furniture they could score for 20 bucks. When his father died in a drunk driving incident when Silas was 19, he kept living there alone, and still hasn’t left.

He got very into urban exploration at around 14, enjoying the thrill of being somewhere no one would look for him, and he could do whatever he wanted, climb on things, graffiti, etc. and loved the feeling of rebellion it gave him. He usually went alone, he had a few friends, but he wasn’t close with any, and they weren’t interested.

When he was 17 he’d been exploring an old hospital, a place he’d been several times, as it was too big to explore all in one day. He started to get the sense he was being stalked, hunted, kept seeing someone out of the corner of his eye, hearing shuffling behind him, nothing he was sure was completely real. Until the hairs on the back of his neck raised, and it was as if a switch had flipped, and he knew he had to run. As soon as he bolted he could properly hear someone chasing him, and he ran until he was able to hide behind a corner, letting them run past his hiding place when he tackled them from behind. They wrestled for a minute, the person managing to bite Silas, before he managed to get his father’s hunting knife into their neck. They were sickly, haggard looking, almost foaming at the mouth. Silas left the body there, unshaken, and went home.

He doesn’t usually hunt outside of urban exploration, finding it easier to find someone alone, to confuse and scare them, people were already so jumpy in abandoned places, and more likely to write off strange noises for longer, convincing themselves that the reason it sounded like footsteps was just their spooked imagination. He likes following them, the chase itself is exhilarating, but there’s just such a special satisfaction to following someone for a few hours, setting small traps for them, lurking in the shadows and waiting for just the perfect moment to strike. He’s never lost prey yet.

When he’s not out hunting he spends a lot of time playing his electric guitar, or otherwise working his job flipping burgers. He’s never had many friends, and so when he met Bret and Dante and they *didn’t* act like he was a nuisance he latched on to them, making sure to always do what he can to take care of them, same as what he did for his father.

When he bumped into Dante outside a bookstore Silas could *smell* the lonely on him, a thick and muddy scent, like the ground after rain, or even sea spray, and made the decision to do what he could to make him less so, as even if being alone would serve the man’s fear, the lonely was still a cruel fate, something he knew well enough without Eldritch fear gods cultivating it, and made every decision he could to avoid the feeling, and to help Dante avoid it too, even if he was a bit resistant at times. Silas is perfectly content to show up at his or Brett’s place when he’s bored, and fucking with them, either by being a straight up nuisance, or forcing them to endure whatever whim he had, whether that’s a movie, shopping, or going for a drive.

He likes to eat basically anything unhealthy, greasy food, ice cream, and gets a slushy basically every time he goes past a gas station. He fancies himself punk, favoring folk punk music, and refuses to play anything remotely chill when Dante and Bret are in the car with him, and is completely tone death, much to their dismay. He’s been banned from having the aux most of the time. He likes staying up too late, and watching horror movies, true crime, and nature documentaries about birds of prey.

He has a car, but it’s seen better days, covered in scrapes and dents, a crack in the windshield, and the mirrors being held on with duct tape. He swears up and down that he got it like this, it was discount and works perfectly fine, and he’s a fantastic driver, he doesn’t need to replace it, it looks worse than it is. (This is a lie, this thing runs on hopes and prayers, and he gets in minor accidents every few months. At this point he’s just not replacing it out of stubborn determination.)

REVIEW: Drew Hancock's COMPANION tells a classic cautionary tale of humans tampering with nature, echoing the theme of "Pandora's Box" found in numerous science fiction and horror stories throughout the decades. In COMPANION, humans exploit a hack to reprogram a "companion robot," intending to carry out their sinister plan, but the situation quickly escalates out of their control. This narrative draws parallels with tales of the Golem and the works of Isaac Asimov, where meddling with the natural order unleashes unintended and often disastrous consequences. It also has shades of Wes Craven’s 1986 film “Deadly Friend,” which was written by Bruce Joel Rubin and featured Kristy Swanson.

Drew Hancock's COMPANION is a dark comedy set 15 minutes in the future, where self-driving cars and companion robots are commonplace. The film features exceptional character arcs and clever social commentary, taking viewers on a roller-coaster ride of OMG and WTF moments.

The character-driven plot explores relationships from multiple angles, with each character experiencing a destructive arc that spirals out of control toward a fitting demise. Iris' tale of awakening and survival is particularly captivating, while Josh's descent into darkness is so compelling that the viewer becomes entangled in his charms and emotional web of deceit.

Hancock masterfully builds tension and suspense, keeping his cards close to his vest until the fantastic climax. The story hooks the audience from the start and maintains a relentless pace until the very end, with flawless internal logic. It is a classical morality tale, peppered with dark comedy, dressed with sci-fi and horror elements, and enhanced with accents of a thriller.

The film's framing, editing, location, and sets work together to create a tense and energetic atmosphere, even during dialogue-heavy scenes. The effective use of special and visual effects enhances the sci-fi and more violent elements without overshadowing the narrative. Hrishikesh Hirway's score further heightens the drama and tension, while also complementing the film's dark comedic moments.

The movie COMPANION boasts a stellar cast, with standout performances by Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid. Quaid's charm and comedic timing, evident in his roles in "The Boys" and his voice work in shows like "My Adventures with Superman," shine through, particularly during scenes where his character's darker side emerges. Thatcher bewitchingly portrays her character's emotional awakening. Harvey Guillén and Lukas Gage deliver excellent performances as a couple harboring a secret, with Gage showcasing his versatility in a role that differs from his previous work. The entire cast excels in delivering the film's dark comedic elements.

COMPANION is a brilliantly written and directed cinematic gem with a captivating story and a fantastic cast. The film's energy, pacing and limited locations make it a prime candidate for a Broadway musical adaptation, similar to films such as "Death Becomes Her" and the 2007 film "Teeth" that were and are currently in performance. Drew Hancock's wit and vision deliver a hilarious and thrilling ride, and I eagerly await his next project.
