Spell Recording
What is Spell Recording or a Spell Log? These are ways of recording your progress or logging your spellwork to track how a spell is performing. They are typically kept in a notebook of some kind, they can also be kept digitally on any note-taking service such as Notion, OneNote, Obsidian, Google Docs/Sheets, Word/Excel, etc.
A basic rundown of how yours may look would include
Time and Date
Name of the Spell or Ritual
Reason for performing this spell or ritual
Expectations
When do you expect the spell to take effect? Projected time frame?
Target(s) and associations (can be self or others, taglocks are examples of associations)
Correspondances
Spirit interactions (if any)
Divine Interactions (if any)
Divination done (if divination is performed prior)
Astro correspondences (if Astro correspondences are used)
Sigils used (if sigils included)
Incantations (if incatations are used)
Tools (if any)
Oils and powders (if used)
Recipes (if a recipe is crafted for this spell purpose, remember to record the recipe separately if wanting to reuse it and can't remember where you placed it)
Observations (observations of how the spell performed during spellwork)
Results (recorded results over time)
Now this may look overwhelming but these are all suggestions of what you can use. Take and leave what you need. After the spell has been cast remember to keep track of the results, it helps you grow and tailor the spell to be more precise if you want to reuse it.
Why should I be recording my spells or keeping a spell log?
If you struggle with memory or brain fog or just want to become more efficient in your practice, this tool will be invaluable, especially at the beginning of your journey. Some points would be:
How did my spell perform? Was it efficient? What should I change?
If this spell backfires somehow you can easily reverse it because you have a log of that spell.
Sometimes it's nice to just keep track of what you cast and look back at your results.
If efficiency is what you are after, this will aid you in growth. I could plug more reasons but it would be redundant at this point.
How to create your own personal log
Here are some other ideas of what you can do for a spell log:
Doing weather magic? You may want to record the type of weather, temperature and location.
Planetary hours or days
Any divining done before or after spellwork
How the spell played out and what you do to break it down so you can perform it the exact same way
How did this affect you mentally?
Feelings felt during casting, any thoughts or feelings that came up
Any inspirations for the spell? Record that too as more ideas may come up.
These are only ideas, you can add as many or as few of any of the suggestions to your log. It will help you reflect on your working, tailoring it for efficiency. That way you can see if anything is hindering your working or maybe it worked extremely well and you want to perform it again.
If this helped let me know!

"hard work pays off" powder
DISCLAIMER: if you are allergic to bee pollen maybe don't do this? substitute with another substance that corresponds to hard work, diligent effort, etc.
materials:
your main ingredient is bee pollen (or substitute). feel the bee pollen (or substitute) amount with your heart.
1 tbsp basil (dried)
1 tbsp rosemary (dried)
like 1/8 tsp powdered ginger root
dried dandelion leaves. also feel this amount with your heart but in my experience a little goes a long way.
i was gonna add eggshell powder for an added layer of protection but i forgor :(
steps:
gather ingredients.
literally just throw it all into a mortar and pestle and do the thing until it's the desired texture. i actually don't currently own a mortar and pestle so i just. mashed it all up. in a glass tupperware. with the blunt end of a sturdy wooden spoon.
you can strain it if you want i guess? but i didn't.
put that shit in a jar. store it in a cool, dry place.
notes
this was originally conceptualized as a sweetening spell, with the primary ingredient having initially been honey. but i was worried about ants. and i just happened to have a fuckton of bee pollen i'd no idea what to do with but didn't want to just get rid of.
while bee pollen does have sweetening qualities, to me it has a stronger association with "hard work."
that said, this recipe could easily be altered to substitute the basil, rosemary and ginger root (prosperity, protection, and luck in a timely manner) for other herbs that amplify the sweetening qualities of the pollen.
this could probably also easily be adapted into an oil instead of a powder, but idk that much about magical oil-making yet.
btw the measurements are really rough estimates. just feel it with your heart, you know? for example i only added a bit of ginger root bc i only wanted a little bit of a "kick," but experiment to find out what feels good! remember, you can always add more.

"if herbert west is trans that means he named himself 'herbert.' who the fuck would name themselves herbert?" you fool. you buffoon. you absolute moron. do you really think the pretentious king of transmascs wouldn't choose a name in which the letters "hrt" appear in order? also what could possibly be more transmasc than having a name that is a perfect anagram of "hrt beer?"

Star Trek: The Animated Series | 1x8 - The Magicks of Megas-Tu
I was a fool back in the day when I tried to limit early Star Trek to strict rules of logic, I won't make that mistake again, early Star Trek (personal) rule number #1: if it makes no sense I'm having fun!

spell log 9.23.2023 money jar
a slightly different version of a spell i've previously used for getting gig-based work, reworked to suit on-hand materials and to pull that part-time job i applied to recently.
materials:
jar
appropriate sigil + tools to write the sigil on the jar's lid
$2 bill
pouch (doesn't need to be fancy. this time i just used a folded up half of a paper towel secured with a rubber band)
rice
"hard work pays off" powder
coins
citrine
(optional) "spun gold"
steps:
gather materials and do whatever you gotta do to get settled and into your headspace. personally, the path to least resistance on this for me is getting high and throwing on my money draw playlist on spotify.
affix your sigil to the lid of the jar. my jar is awesome and has a chalkboard lid, so i just draw it on with chalk. if you don't have an awesome jar you can also just paint it on or draw it on a scrap of paper and affix it to the top with tape or something. set this aside.
fill your pouch with a bit of rice (seriously, you don't need a lot. maybe a few tbsp max) and sprinkle in some "hard work pays off" powder. secure the pouch however you see fit so that nothing falls out. set this aside, too.
optional: spin your gold, if you haven't already, and set that aside as well. (adapted from the lovely @breelandwalker, you can "spin gold" by methodically wrapping golden thread/embroidery floss/similar fiber around a spool or three, and tying it off. i had to look up how to do this and tbh i still am not sure i totally got it right, lol)
time to put stuff in the jar! i do it in a Particular Order to minimize the Bad Sensory sound of coins clinking against glass but honestly stuff can just Go In There. the order i do it in is: $2 bill, rice + powder pouch, pour spare change all in there (i always make a Big Deal of slowly pouring the coins in for the Vibes. the $2 bill and pouch going in first really helps muffle the sound). nestle that citrine in there; i have a lovely palm stone that always fits like a dream. optional: toss in those spun-gold spools now, if you have 'em.
close the jar and seal however you see fit. i wrap a little hand-woven thingy around it left over from the original iteration of this spell. set in a semi-prominent (or at least easily accessible) location and let it work its magic!
notes:
you can charge this spell over time by adding spare change.
when your jar gets full, grab some of those paper coin rolls and start rolling. deposit your full rolls, or use them to buy yourself a little treat. any coins leftover that didn't make a full roll go back in the jar to continue accumulating!

04/06/18—, Expedition Log
43km below the surface
I have located what seems to be a settlement of Mole-Folk. It is carved into an immense stalactite(stalagmite? Does that distinction even mean anything down here? How does it even form? It can’t be the same processes that happens in caves can it?).
I see Mole-Folk go in and out occasionally, usually in groups of three or four. Trying to go in may be dangerous, but so is running the engine of my exploration vessel, so taking some sort of risk seems like it is the necessary course of action here.
I am writing this in what I think is some sort of alleyway. It’s more of a cave crevice to be honest, but either way it’s cozy, and not at risk of getting in anyone’s way.
The inside of the stalactite is very similar to the way ants create their nests from what I can tell. You have tunnels which connect a wide variety of rooms which fulfill different purposes. The tunnels are cramped and typically only have just enough vertical room to stand and just enough horizontal room for two to pass eachother.
Thus far my presence has been met with very little aggression, but I do note that many of the Mole-Folk will pass by me faster than their kin, while others will sniff me curiously before moving along. I even had one poke and prod at me for a while. They are… still here, waiting outside of the crevice. Undoubtedly I’m quite odd to them. I cannot blame their reactions to me, undoubtedly if one of them were to go up to the surface they’d be met with a similar reaction, or worse… either way I don’t really appreciate such behaviour. I do tolerate it though seeing as they can’t actually see me very well, and I am the odd one here in this place.
Considering the fact this one has been sticking around me, this may actually be a good opportunity to learn more about the Mole-Folk. I’ll have to see about trying to communicate with them somehow…
Material wise, there does seem to be a storage room full of different materials, including copper, and not just that, it’s refined copper. Evidently they know how to make metal tools, yet the majority of the tools I see are obsidian. I wonder what the reason is? Anyway I do need that copper. The problem with that comes with trying to communicate that I need it, and even if I somehow succeed in doing that, I would need something valuable to trade for it.
Not just that but there’s still the matter of turning it into copper wire… what a mess I’ve gotten myself into.
Me and the mole person who has been following me around had somewhat of a conversation. Well, as much of a conversation that can be had between people with very little information about eachother can have.
I entered a very empty room, and decided this as an opportunity to rest. The mole person sat next to me.
“Hello.” I said, despite knowing it wouldn’t be understood. Who knows why.
At this, they seemed to jump, startled, before turning their ears towards me, curious maybe. Then they started to make noises, first a hiss, then an eh sound, what sounded like a pur, then an oh sound. They repeated this sequence faster and more fluidly this time. “Hherah”. Then they tilted their head, almost like a dog.
I think it was trying to mimic the word hello. Not to recognisable, but I doubt I could mimic half the sounds Mole-Folk make, so it was definitely a good attempt all things considered.
“My name is Mr. Mosley.” I pointed at myself, before remembering such an action was pointless in this situation. Instead, I grabbed their hand and placed it on my chest.
I’d like to note that am transcribing the conversation to the best of my abilities but keep in mind I am not an expert in phonetics and alphabet is very much unable to capture the specifics of how they pronounced things.
“Mhy namh ihh Mrr. Mohhrrey” they repeated.
“Mr. Mosley” I said again, clarifying.
“Mrr. Mohhrrey.” They pulled their hand away, “grrmm <click> <click> <click> Ehggrr” they said, bringing my hand to their chest
My own attempt to replicate their speech is scientifically useless so I will not be transcribing it.
“Ehggrr” they repeated.
After this, me and Ehggrr passed objects between us and exchanged our words for them. I will write them down here to the best of my ability:
Red Leaf = krreyah
Bag = mrr’hh
Quartz = hhekhh
Tool = mrrik
Cloth = immrr
After a while, Ehggrr left the room, but waited out the doorway, as if for me to follow. I grabbed my things, and they led me into a series of rooms closed off by cloth drapes. By the looks of things this is their home. They gave me a nook to sleep in as well as some bedding, before retreat to their own nook.
So brings this entry to the present. Neither of us have since gone to sleep from what I can tell. it is three hours before ten pm when I usually rest. I will write an update in the morning.

The Yule Log. During the 12day period of Yule, Celtic tribes believed that the sun stood still in the sky, and it was tradition to keep a Yule Log burning in the hearth to coax it back into moving again, as well as to conquer the darkness and banish evil spirits.
