Hello hellsitegenetics. I have discovered that I did absolute shit on my Genetics unit so far. If you were to BLAST this ask I will start praying to the creature that appears for them to aid me in the final exam so that I can have a GPA that is closer to what I wanted

Update log on salvage mission
Submitted by Jerico Soberanis
Uploaded to the Thunderhead 27 Nov, year of the Spotty Bobtail Squid
Ship found. No passengers, as expected. Send robot down to explore, picked up a few pieces. Ship not stable to raise entirely, will have to possibly dismantle underwater. Sending divers later today.
Thunderhead comment: Please try to raise the ship entirely. I believe it is still possibe. Good luck, Jeri.

WHEW finally another cephaling type chart. with two new ones! wow!
Tumblr media
The Squidling is definitely the most common variation of the Cephalings, and is one of the Inkling species. Their defining traits are definitely their often long mantles, complete with fins of varying sizes. Squidlings also possess tentacles, but don’t be fooled, some squids have none! The squid’s habit of referring to its own species as simply “Inkling” has stirred lots of confusion. While in fact squidlings ARE inklings, several other Cephaling species capable of excessive ink usage are also part of the Inkling group.
Tumblr media
The Cuttling is a less-often seen variant of the Inklings. Like squidlings, they have tentacles, but their mantles are wildly different - not only are they much wider, but also have what one may call “a fin skirt”.
Their maybe most distinguishing features are the strangely shape pupils, but other features include tiny but numerous suckers in the head tentacles, which itself are overall more flat and wavy, as well as the wave- and stripe patterns across the body in place of the Squid’s spots. Cuttlings also have tons of skin papillae, giving them a bumpy look. Or a smooth look, if they so desire.
Tumblr media
Oh, what’s this little fella? That’s the Bobling of course! A group including the bobtail- and bottletail squids of the past, it is unclear whether they’re closer related to Squidlings or Cuttlings - but one thing is for sure, they are TINY. Your average bobling may range anywhere from 2′8″ to 4 feet tall!  Like Squidlings and Cuttlings, they have two retractable tentacles, but their head tentacles are notable for having very bulbous and round suckers. They are also incredibly spotty, often decorated with large spots and paired bioluminescence! Their mantles are round and stubby, and the fins are round.  While the Bobling is a very intriguing Inkling, they tend to be shy and are mostly out at night. As all Boblings have varying capability of emitting light from their body, it’s actually a very photogenic hour for the little fellas. This glittery sheen even extends to their ink.

The Octoling doesn’t need much introduction. These critters have only lately gotten more time in the spotlight as the feud between Squids and Octopodes has, hopefully, FINALLY come to an end. The Octarian society is much more strict than Inkopolis, and thus Octolings tend to be more stern....at least until they get their hands on basically anything cool. (Like a Crusty Seanwich. Or a really neat looking rock they can keep.) The Octoling is drastically different from the other Inklings mainly due to its lack of feeding tentacles. The Octoling even has just eight graspers (fingers), and is the only Cephaling to have separately developed claws! Even moreso, their already strange head tentacles bear large suckers on the top, and are supposedly able to function semi-autonomously. Like Cuttlings, Octolings have a lot of skin papillae, and thus can raise a whole lotta spikes out of their skin. Octolings are also typically good at problem solving, and a lot of them excel at things like coding and tech.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, the Cirling. Now who is this fella? The Cirling is a close relative of the Octoling, but quite drastically different....and the only Cephaling not to be classified as an Inkling. Now why is this? Well, naturally, because they do not have ink.... Cirlings are notable for various reasons. They retain webbing between their head tentacles, even some on their limbs, unlike other species. They have an Octoling-like mantle and the same amount of head tentacles, but they possess fins and their tiny suckers are underneath the tentacles. These suckers are accompanied by lines of “cirri” - little spike-like structures, that are, however, soft. Cirri are also present on the hands. What, you thought those were claws? That’s what the Cirling hopes a possible predator would think, too. While Cirlings are very closely related to Octolings, the head tentacles and four-digit-hands are roughly all the outer details they share. The Cirling has round, all-black eyes, no skin papillae, and overall very non-detailed skin. Unlike basically any other Cephaling, the Cirling is also unable to change color. A lovable oddity for sure!
