My final grades have been posted, and I am pleased to share that I successfully maintained a perfect straight A average throughout my college career (not a single B baby). My advisor and the Dean have both extended their congratulations, and I will be graduating with highest honors (summa cum laude) on May 16th with Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Physics (Material Science).

I am sure it will be more so when I graduate than today, but I find myself emotional and awestruck looking back. My mother did so much to dissuade and discourage me verbally, emotionally, and legally. I have been called the spawn of satan, told I would fail miserably in college, and have had a number of legal battles with her concerning my trust fund. But I proved her wrong, and she has lost all her court battles.

So now I stand on the cusp of my next adventure...MORE SCHOOLING! On Monday, I start a consulting gig for the Summer. In the Fall, I start my PhD track. Now I have to decide whether to move into new PhD provided housing or to stay put in my current dorm room where I have spent the past 4 years. I am torn on that one.

I will finish up my TA hours today and it does look like I will continue as a TA next year, only with more clout!

Here are my final grades in my undergrad classes:

Applied Radiation Physics (98% - A)

Topology (98% - A)

Research in Physics III (97% - A)

Psychology (94% - A)

Nuclear and Particle Physics (97% - A)

Yes, I am still a smol nerd!!

Thanks for many of you who have followed me on here for some time, some since I started at 19 (now I am old at 22). You encouraged and stayed with me, even when the tumblr gods wrongly terminated my previous account. I am grateful for this outlet and wish only the best for all of you!

It was Sunday again… already! And it was another fine, dry, bright and sunny day in the wild west Highlands of Scotland, but, as Algy discovered, the air was cold and the wind was remarkably chilly, and altogether it did not feel anything like as warm and inviting as it looked…

But it was spring nonetheless: plants were bursting into fresh green growth all over the garden, trees and shrubs were starting to flower, the great white cherry blossom was buzzing with bees, and the birds were exceedingly busy in the bushes and – Algy hoped – in the nest boxes which his assistants had installed especially for their use 😀

Collecting a volume of poetry from his own personal library, Algy tried to find a suitable place in which to relax and indulge in his usual Sunday reading, but many of his favourite spots felt too cold. Eventually, however, he settled down upon a sunny slope where a patch of cowslips had just begun to flower, and opened his book of verse, which was devoted to poems about the four seasons. Turning the pages, he was rather surprised to see a poem by D H Lawrence:

This spring as it comes bursts up in bonfires green, Wild puffing of emerald trees, and flame-filled bushes, Thorn-blossom lifting in wreaths of smoke between Where the wood fumes up and the watery, flickering rushes. I am amazed at this spring, this conflagration Of green fires lit on the soil of the earth, this blaze Of growing, and sparks that puff in wild gyration, Faces of people streaming across my gaze. And I, what fountain of fire am I among This leaping combustion of spring? My spirit is tossed About like a shadow buffeted in the throng Of flames, a shadow that's gone astray, and is lost.
