I love talking to kids about disability bc
1. they often just Get It, and
2. they have 0 concept of disability as a tragedy or something pitiable.
I've watched kids get into an argument with a teacher bc they thought wheelchairs were cool. I told a kid that I can't stand for too long sometimes and they replied, "That's okay, I can't do cartwheels sometimes, but I just do other stuff then. You can sit down with me if you want". Today a girl asked me what the headphones on a classmate's desk were for and I told her that headphones are important for some kids because noises bother them, and she said she wished she had headphones at home, because her baby brothers make a lot of noise and it makes it hard to think. The idea that different people could use tools at different times is intuitive and simple and when accessibility aids are explained neutrally, kids don't see them as bad or unfortunate, they're just things that are useful.
Even mental disability!! In Kindergarten the other day one of the kids asked me why his table partner got stickers when nobody else did. I started off by saying, "Well, when you do your work well, it feels good, right? That's your brain giving you a reward," and the kid just right away went, "Oh, and the stickers are like his reward?" YES! You are 5 and have a better grasp on ADHD than most adults! Kids blow me away every day.

sometimes it feels like whenever asexuality is brought up on this website, everyone is so quick to make it about literally anything besides asexuality. You don’t like how much sexual content is left untagged? You must be a sex-negative puritan! You read this character as being asexual? Clearly you’re a homophobe who hates all their gay ships! You feel alienated by Valentine’s Day and dating culture in general? No, that’s an AROMANTIC experience, stop equating ace with aro!
Like, yes—sex negativity, homophobia, and aromantic erasure are absolutely real and widespread problems. But at some point you have to give other marginalized people the benefit of the doubt and let them talk about their own experiences being marginalized without making it into an attack on you personally.

Life update heres what I'm doing :)
Working waaay to much (45+ hours a week shouldn't be normal but oh well)
Started the master naturalist program. A program in america that is a volunteer based citizen scientist program giving you the ability to learn environmental topics beyond a citizen level. Im im HTMN if you know you know :) would love to connect with other master naturalist's
Creating an oracle deck. Originally 30 cards all bird related is now probably closer to 100 ranging from weather events, ecoregions, plants, fungus, bugs you get the idea. All hyper specific to central texas meaning this card deck only works for central texas locals which is intentional!
Lots of spiritual experiences and building my first shadow book which has been quite fun
Doing a lot of plant and garden work. Learning to clean seeds, plant natives remove invasives (i hate you king ranch grass) and building a second pond in my chicken area.
Learning rainwater gardening, watershed strategies, and became certified for standard core water testing :>
Beginning to save money to eventually purchase my own land with my guy
Some fun projects im doing
- bird box monitoring
- seed harvesting and collecting
- invasive maintenance
- plant and tree identification
- CoCoRaS
- Water Site Sample collections and Analysis
- p o n d
- washing so many dogs
I also really think therians specifically should really partake in wildlife conservation outside touching grass. There are lots of methods and different skill sets for everyone my chapter program is designed to be inclusive for disabled bodies and those with low energy. I think its worth trying to become more attached to the wildlife around you its a vital thing we need to do so we take care of our local environments

Ah... I had this whole weekend and friday off... just to get stressed out because people apparently ask Alastor stuff now! Like when did that happen?
I'm glad Al is popular and all but holy quackers! Anyways, since Al is also starting to lose his mode because #1, he's doing all of this on what he calls 'a smaller version of Vox's face's and #2 not used to people talking to him, I had to get him a chew toy.
It's one of those weird squaking chicken things... the really annoying ones that should like they're in antagonizing pain if you poke them... Alastor was originally a bit angry about it, saying that he wasn't a dog, but once he found out about the screams...
He likes it... thanks @jonis06 for the idea... I'm making a little comic about it now... maybe I'll start posting more art along with getting Al to answer you guys! And hopefully I can let him out of his room tomorrow if he's calmed down and I'm willing to keep him in line...
Well, goodnight (for me at least) and Happy Holidays.
-Your pal, Lu Lu♡

EXPLAINING THE WSQK 94.5 FM SQUAWK
To begin with, we need to understand that each radio station has a four-letter code issued by the FCC (the government agency that regulates radio stations in the United States). Stations with W or K in their codes indicate whether the radio station is located east or west of the Mississippi River, while the other letters are chosen by the stations themselves.

An example is WPTF (a real station), which serves as a reference for WSQK in the universe of st. The W indicates that it is east of the Mississippi River, and PTF was chosen by the station itself with the slogan "We Protect The Family."

WSQK 94.5 FM SQUAWK
The radio station in st uses the same W and K pattern, indicating it is east of the Mississippi River, and the SQ stands for (SQUAWK).
We've already seen the WSQK van with its beautiful blue color and an image of an eagle emitting a rainbow from its beak (probably making a reference with light radiation). Also I would find it amazing if this mascote at the set were the radio station's mascot that the production has among them, referencing/joking about the WSQK eagle, obviously it’s not going to be a part of S5
Visible light is part of a different electromagnetic spectrum, sharing similar characteristics with radio waves but at higher frequencies.

The term SQUAWK comes from the sounds that birds use to communicate, which makes sense with the eagle illustrated on the van.
It would be as if the eagle were “shouting” radio waves, trying to convey the message that WSQK radio frequency is powerful

"ADHD isn't a mental disability it's just a difference in how brains work" hmm yes a difference in how brains work. A difference that makes some aspects of modern life much more difficult, right? they are, and bear with me here, Less Able to do some of the things expected of them? Such as perform basic hygiene, socialize, or complete work and academic tasks?
Saying ADHD or autism isn't a mental disability doesn't show your progressive view of neurodivergence, it shows your dismissive view of mentally disabled people.
#deciding you don't want to call people with disabilities disabled just limits their access in our current world#squawk

I don’t necessarily mind found family as a trope, but when it comes to fandom it’s insufferable 90% of the time because it almost always hinges on at least one, if not all, of these extremely boring and incorrect assumptions:
That familial ties are the closest and truest kind of relationship; the term “family” = the highest priority and deepest devotion you can have for another person
That intergenerational friendships do not exist, or inherently include a significant parental aspect
That someone being a “mom friend” (i.e. acting mature and enjoying caring for others) means they literally see themselves as a mother figure, or that someone being the “group baby” (i.e. acting silly and enjoying being cared for) means they literally see themselves as a child figure, etc.
and it’s even worse when fans act like their found family headcanons are textually, canonically intended to be read as such, or that family is a major theme of the source material… Basically it’s the familial equivalent of amatonormativity and it’s very tiring.
#I almost added a disclaimer before i remembered that this is my salty sideblog and I don’t owe anyone politeness or clarification#squawk#fandom#fandom discourse
