When I'm on the road, I really do miss the people of @enidcrossfit . I love working out beside those people, but I've been blessed on these last two road trips. First, @crossfit.provision , with @jchiles_37 was a great facility and a solid workout. This week, two great workouts with the staff of @crossfitomaha . @stacietovar and @dustintovar were very welcoming, and their staff is always encouraging and hospitable. It's been a good week. #crossfitontheroad #fitness #goodpeople #readytobehome #irondentrained

crossfitphotojournal @brookewellss and @stacietovar watching as their fellow athletes perform a dry run through the obstacle course. As they look on, an athlete falls from halfway down the cargo net and collapses into the sand below. She's fine, but @thedavecastro warns the athletes again to be careful—Important advice. This event will be punishing to anyone who moves faster than his or her hand-eye coordination allow.

Stacie Tovar on Training, Nutrition & Making Progress.

Who knew that a small town in Nebraska could bring such a powerful, inspirational woman to the world of fitness? Meet Stacie Tovar, a nationally recognized CrossFit athlete and former collegiate volleyball player at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Growing up, she helped her dad out on the farm and was always outdoors. She soon discovered she was naturally athletic, as was evident in her growing love of sports. Today, she’s known worldwide for her prowess in the CrossFit Games, but she wasn’t always the powerhouse that she is today.

A Love For Sports
When I was growing up, I landed upon both track and volleyball in school, and excelled at both. I got offers to run track in college, but ended up choosing volleyball. I played for 4 years at Omaha and graduated with a degree in exercise physiology. I went in and out of a few jobs before I found CrossFit, thanks to my husband. He was my boyfriend at the time.

On The Fence...
My husband begged me for 2 years to go to a CrossFit class. I thought I was done being competitive, having played sports my whole life. I had read about CrossFit before, and my coach used to put us through some CrossFit workouts. I got a little taste then, so I knew what to expect. And I knew I would probably like it. But I just didn’t know if I was up for the challenge.

Say goodbye to ripped hands. Stacie Tovar swears by The Natural Grip ($22) which has a custom made fit based off her ring size and has saved her hands from tearing many a times during competitions.
Trying CrossFit For The First Time
Finally, I decided to give it a try, even though I thought he was crazy. And I didn’t even finish my first workout… but thankfully I went back. I grew to love CrossFit--the community, the goals, the progress, the challenge, and everything and anything between all of that. The rest is history. I’ve been in the CrossFit Games 6 times, and now I’m working on number 7. Recently, I bought CrossFit Omaha after 8 years of being part of the community.

The First Workout - Not A Pretty Sight
During my first work out, I had to scale back weight and I couldn’t even do a box jump. As a volleyball player, we jump all the time. I think that’s what got me: I was like “Okay, clearly I’m not in the shape I used to be. I need to do something, and I think this is it.” It wasn’t until a few months in that I realized, “Oh my gosh, I really enjoy this. It’s challenging, it’s always different. And it really pushes me outside my comfort zone.”

The Value Of Food And Sleep
One thing I’ve really learned is that you have to listen to your body. Now I know how much food and sleep matter. When I was younger, I could get away with eating shittier food, and going out with friends more than twice a week, staying up late. Now, this is my life. My friends and my family know that about me. What I put in my mouth is my fuel. I’m in bed by 9 or 10pm (if I’m not at the gym that late), and getting plenty of sleep every night.

“Some people ask me what it is exactly that keeps me motivated. But it actually comes naturally when it’s something you truly love and enjoy, and are really passionate about.”

Conquering Challenges Inside & Outside The Box
With anything in life, whether it’s work or having a new child or getting married, you can compare it to CrossFit. There’s always something new to learn. There’s always a new challenge to face. There’s always some uncertainty and risk involved. And with each day of conquering challenges, I love seeing the way it directly connects with conquering challenges everywhere else in my life. That’s why CrossFit is so universal and speaks to so many people, because it’s so relatable to real life.

Life Lessons
CrossFit teaches you so many life lessons that you take with you. That’s what I love about it. As for me, so many things have changed about how I look at life: I look at food differently. I look at my day differently. I have new goals to reach. I’ve never felt so committed to something, when I know it’s making a difference--not only for me personally, but everyone around me, everyone I come in contact with. I know I’m helping each person I talk with to have a new perspective with life, health, and fitness in general.
“It’s just really cool to witness when people grasp it and they believe in it. You see them change, not only physically but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.”

Helping Others Is My True Joy
It’s a hard responsibility to help others break through their limitations, but it’s something I take so much pride in. I WANT to help people change the way they view fitness. I want them to lose the weight that they want to lose. I want them to ask me questions about how I got started, and how I did this and how I did that. I’ve been at it for 8 years. So I now have a lot of experience and knowledge. And I love that it’s a very open community--if someone has an idea or any questions, they know who they can turn to. Many gyms don’t have that sense of community, and it’s a truly special thing. Ultimately, I want my community to feel that we’re in it together. They don’t have to pursue their goals alone.

Less Is More
One of the things I’ve learned is LESS IS MORE--in not just fitness, but in life. Especially now. I’m a business owner. I travel a lot. I love my family, and I love my downtime too. I think a lot about the quality of my life, interactions and relationships, not the quantity of things I’m doing. And in so many of these things, less is more.

Progress is Happiness
I want to inspire women to keep overcoming limitations. Be the better version of yourself. Take pride in putting weight over your head. It doesn’t have to be 300 lbs, it can be a barbell. But, remember what got you started. Remember where you’ve been, and remember how far you’ve come. And just enjoy that process and share experience that with others. Who knows? I bet you’ll inspire more people than you know.
