i like tai a lot, at least the version of him i’ve mostly invented that’s vaguely implied by canon, but he’s a terrible father. i think people trying to find a way to make him a good dad “other than the neglect” are doing the least interesting thing with his character. what i mean by that is i think a lot of people go for a reading where he was shitty and absent for an unspecified length of time after summer leaves and then eventually just snaps back into being a normal good dad and i just think that’s a) not supported by canon given the insane mess of his interactions with yang in v4 and b) Boring. let him suck!! let him be weird and emotionally stunted and a terrible father who really does love his kids and want the best for them and is absolute dogshit at Doing the best for them. that’s so much more fun

Hm okay so, I think I’d want them to feel very much like they are. The soldiers fighting alongside their moon princess. But to fit in rwbys world I think I’d ditch the fukus and have them more in tune to their Greek/Roman mythology. (Pyrrha’s gonna find some new buddies~).

Their weapons would be the objects they’re associated with in the Sailor Moon series. So Venus has her sword, Neptune with her mirror, Mercury with her harp, etc. And their semblances obviously would try and be close to their elemental powers.

Huh, wow seems like they could fit in pretty well. Like a mini army honestly.

Every think about how one of ravens coping mechinizism was to regress to a time in her life were things were simply just kill or be killed with minimal connection instead of every that came with team stqr and oz.

this is the kind of thing that keeps me up at night, like

she would have had to change, right? qrow says raven has "an interesting way of looking at the world" that he doesn't particularly agree with—which likely is at least partly related to 'the weak die, the strong live' rule—but for team strq to be as close as they were, for raven to once trust ozpin enough to be part of his inner circle, for her and tai to get together and start a family, she would have had to move away from that line of looking at the world. to actually live instead of just survive.

when she learned the truth, maybe even whatever happened on summer's mission played a part, did all of it feel like it was built on lies? that this ideal, romantic life of a huntress wasn't what it was made out to be? that there's no fairy tale ending when an invincible monster who cannot even be stopped, who they've been tasked to fight and stop anyway, exists?

did that make it easier to go back to her previous life, where everything was simple; the weak die, the strong live. kill or be killed. there's no hidden truths there, no lies, just what everyone in the tribe takes as the cold, hard facts of the world.

and like. if raven felt like the very foundation of the life she had in beacon and beyond was built on a lie, did her teammates feel the same way about her? she was there to learn how to kill huntsmen, after all, and now she has gone back to the tribe and reverted (at least on the surface) to the person she was before beacon; to them, was the raven they knew a lie, too? especially to qrow who grew up with raven and would know exactly what she has been like from an outside perspective, to know the beacon era was practically a drop in a bucket compared to the rest, it definitely would have come across as an act.

which hurts bc i also feel like that raven was the real raven, and the rest is, to an extent, an act she had to put up to survive bc she grew up in a hostile environment where the weak died and the strong lived which is pretty much about physical strength and compared to adults, kids aren't strong like that, of course she would have had to make up for it somehow and, well. she's strong enough to do what others won't. that doesn't exactly sound like she was prioritizing physical strength to survive, rather that she was willing to do whatever it takes. it's like, scrappy, ya know?

...anyway. this got out of hand quickly, so safe to say: yeah, i do think about it. a lot lmao

Okay so first of all, we all know that a person’s soul is deeply involved in their weapon. And Jaune’s weapon was shattered after killing Penny, symbolizing the way his soul/self was shattered by being forced to do that

The pieces of the sword with Penny’s blood on them were literally broken away by Cinder. Doesn’t get much more blatant than that

As such, the reforging of Jaune’s sword is going to be deeply tied to him healing from having to kill Penny. It won’t happen until the latter half of the volume (if it happens in V10 at all) and I wouldn’t be surprised if Pietro is the one to do it

I know people have mentioned Jaune switching to only shield, but I just can’t see that. Yeah, he’s the support character, and he knows it, but he needs an offensive weapon. And besides, he doesn’t know how to fight with only a shield, it’s just not practical

That being said… the Relic of Destruction IS a sword

And Mr. “I hurt destroy everything I touch” is currently without a sword

It’s 2 am and I probably have a million more questions about the lore for the fic but what’s up with raven here

KSDJKXHDKZJZ I do have a lot of background lore for it!! I'm happy to answer questions about it, since I don't know if/when I'll write any followup to it. 😅

Raven was supposed to make an appearance at the gala! She definitely knew what Yang's been up to- originally, she was supposed to make some weird cryptic comments to Blake about it- Vernal sorta took her place, because she would've known, too, and just wanted to give Yang shit about it. Raven doesn't discourage Yang, but she probably wishes Yang put that much energy into the family business instead. 😂 But Raven does not actively get involved. Alas, it was a plot thread that sadly got dropped in the interest of time.
