in case anyone is checking my profile: i wasn't trying to convince strangeloop to hurt themself. i was trying to have a conversation with someone who i'd talked to before. her tone rapidly shifted afterwards, and i didn't expect that. i didn't respond in kind, and they refused to acknowledge it after. i never insulted them or told them to "fuck off" like they did to me. because i was trying to connect with someone, not hurt them.

it's obviously a charged topic. to answer the question that was asked in the final reply, yeah, i talk to people irl like that when i get the chance, and people react in lots of different ways. none of them have ever blown up at me like that. but i don't really know her. that turned out to be a bad way to try to get to know each other in this case.

im an autistic traumatized person who is generally off-putting and badly socialized. you'll think whatever you want of me. id rather you know that i wasn't being malicious, as she suggested. id rather be called pathetic (which i was) than malicious.

id rather not be called names at all, or deal with the stress of these kinds of arguments, so i blocked her. i don't think she'd want to see more of me given what she said. i hope the block will make it so the two of us won't have to deal with this and issues like it going forward. that's not what i want out of tumblr, and that's not what i need in my life.

im disappointed it went this way. hopefully we both learned something? idk. i wish them well.

De repente abro los ojos y se activa el automatismo..mi brazo se estira y trae el móvil frente a mi cara mientras activo la pantalla para ver la hora. En vez de aparecer ésta, el navegador sigue en la última página  que estaba consultando: un foro de Teoría Musical donde alguien pedía ayuda a los expertos para desentrañar la lógica que seguía la secuencia de una canción que le tenía desconcertado.  Un laberinto barroco a nivel de armonía inabarcable para los conocimientos en análisis de la mayoría. Las respuestas en el foro tampoco aportan mucho. Abro el pdf con la transcripción, como si fuera a entender algo para encontrarme con una procesión de acordes alterados, aparentemente amontonados, imposibles de ordenar. En una respuesta de un usuario encuentro un link a youtube con un video en el  que algún aficionado a Premiere se ha molestado en editar imágenes de la película " Enter the Void" sobre la canción. 

Lo activo mientras empiezo a cepillarme los dientes y me encuentro con este bello accidente de la naturaleza, como si las notas se desprendiesen como gotas que caen, como una precipitación agradable en la selva en el que el sonido del agua contra la vegetación lejos de sonar como una amenaza, suenan agradables,  un regalo de la naturaleza.  Un extraño coro con voz en falsete de timbre suave fluye con una naturalidad asombrosa aportando equilibrio armónico a la pieza. Un virtuoso bajista, cantante y productor de Los Ángeles con un carrerón a sus espaldas con dos curiosos hitos:  su periodo como bajista en Suicidal Tendencies y como colaborador esencial, epicentro creativo,  del disco que puso de acuerdo a toda la critica a finales de 2015 " To Pimp a Butterfly" de Kendrik Lamarr. La canción es "DMT song" Es uno de esos extraños casos de discutida autoría como "Under Pressure" de Queen y Bowie en la que los seguidores no se ponen de acuerdo acerca de si la compuso él o Austin Peralta. Qué más da. Es como el testimonio, el legado de sus largas sesiones de jam en los centenares de ocasiones que se encontraron sobre el escenario. Este virtuoso pianista de jazz, hijo del mítico skater, empresario y director de cine Stacy Peralta, fue considerado un niño prodigio desde que con seis años se sentara por primera vez frente a un piano hasta que en 2006, con 15 años le diera la réplica a Chick Korea en el festival de Jazz de Tokyo donde había actuado con su proyecto The Hour Band. A pesar de su juventud, tuvo una carrera prolífica en la que desarrolló una visión propia acerca de lo que significa ser un pianista de jazz lo que le permitió cruzar su camino con la música electrónica de Dr. Strangeloop primero y, posteriormente, con Steven Ellison, conocido como Flying Lotus. Por el camino se repiten en cascada las secuencias de acordes de " DMT song" que aún no me han abandonado.

Ya no tanto por la extraña gema que supone esta composición sino por el soplo de aire fresco que supone la entrada en mi lista de reproducción del  gran Thundercat, de Austin Peralta y del nuevo acceso que he encontrado al trabajo de Flying Lotus.

Pienso en esta nueva ventana que se ha abierto a un nuevo universo tan desconocido para mí y, cómo no, en todas las que me quedan por abrir. 

Pienso en que en ocasiones me he visto en el triste papel del melómano al que nada le motiva y que mientras acompaña en su declive a sus referencias musicales del pasado, va cerrando su campo de visión a lo nuevo, a lo sorprendente. Porque al final, cuando no vemos más la belleza, no es que ésta se esté agotando...lo que se agota es nuestra voracidad por descubrirla.

Sobre este tema ya di la chapa en otra ocasión y creo que no debo repetirme.. o si. Edit1: Dos dias después sigo mentalmente ausente y me he dedicado a wikipedizar todos los ríos y afluentes que llevan a este maravilloso descubrimiento. Escribo estas líneas para ver si se lo traspaso a alguien y cae en esta hermosa trampa.  Tu la llevas!

What is the Kisekae Set System: It is a system to make digital dress up dolls!

Created in 1991 by MIO.H for use in a Japanese BBS. Pre-web!!! By separating the system from the assets of the dolls, you can make the systems much smaller

CEL image format. They have a transparent background and indexed colors like GIFs!

There is also the KCF Palette Format. Each GUF stores its own palette, with CELs there is a shared KCF palette file. Which is a file size cost savings. You do not have to repeat your color info per file.

Having your palette in another file makes palette swapping really easy! Just swap the KCF file!

CNF configuration files dictate layering, grouping, setting, and positions!

KiSS dolls have a lot of files, so they used LhA, the most popular compression format in Japan at the time.

In 1994, KLS (a user) created the KiSS General Specification

1995 FKiSS is born by Dov Sherman and Yav, which adds sounds, and animation!

FKiSS 2, 3, 4, two versions of FKiSS 5! So much innovation!

1995-2005 huge growth in KiSS! Increase of access, mainstreaming of anime, younger and more female audience.

2007-2012: KiSS declined due to it being much harder to make. All the old tutorials were written for older systems, English-speaking KiSS-making died out by 2010

The Sims, and other doll making was more accessible.

But, why KiSS? If I can make dolls in other places. They are great snapshots of the pre-internet world, and how play online evolved early on.

Lots of fun dolls were available, and it would be cool to save it.

Picrew is a modern thing people use to make dolls.

Tagi Academy is a tamagochi game within KiSS. Impressive!

KiSS has an open specification!!!! That is super cool! That means anyone can make your own viewer, as opposed to a closed system in The Sims.

So, why NOT make a KiSS interpreter?!!

Libby made Smooch, a KiSS renderer written in Haskell, which at the Recurse Center!

Smooch used a web framework called Fn (fnhaskell.com)

Had to make a CNF file parser using Parsec library that uses parsing combinators.

She created a data type that houses everything that can be in a CNF file, and parses it correctly in priority order.

Parsing is a great candidate for test-driven development. You can write a test with a bad CNF file, and then make sure your parser handles it.

The parser translates CNF lines into JSON. Uses the ASON library to translate into JSON.

First tried cel2pnm, coded with help from Mark Dominus at Recurse Center Made a C program that converted cels to portable bitmaps, which could be translated into PNGs.

Then JuicyPixels was created to translate palette files directly in Haskell

Now it is converted to JavaScript! No libraries, just JS!

Using PNGs in JS, thought, made it hard to click on parts of the clothing! Since it is squares.

So, you use ghost canvases! You use tow canvases, one on top of the other, to find the color of the pixel you clicked on, If you clicked on a scarf color, it will pick the scarf, and if you pick the sweater, you get the sweater!

Libby just added FKiSS 1 to Smooch! So we have animations now! The animations are basically event-based scripting the CEL files.

Smooch translates FKiSS to JSON, then the interpreter translates the JSON to JavaScript!

An action in FKiSS is translated into a function in JS. To do this you have to use bind in JS.

The events become CustomEvents in JS! So it looks like a regular event on the DOM.

What is the future of KiSS? Let's get more people making KiSS dolls!!! So why not make it easy to make dolls using PNGs.

How can we make people interested in building KiSS dolls and KiSS tooling.
