So I had my Uberhood for the very first time and honestly is so much fun thanks to all the new stuff that happens between Sims. So, for some reason my game has decided that Brandi and Vidcund had chimestry (Turn ons and off are random).

Bro, I can't describe how Vidcund just became the father that stepped up, in the Curious Household he rolled a want to go on a date with Brandi, ok they had their date, rolled to flirt, granted every wish I could and in one evening they were in love. Then when I went to Brandi's house she already rolled the want to get married to Vidcund, I was like "Girl, too fast" and it was like, Beau was still a toddler, Dustin literally got the already expected poor grades, tantrums, throwing up, surviving and selling stuff while doing the best they could.

Of course, as I play she eventually gives birth to her third child, and yes she rolled wants to invite Vidcund home thus they managed to build their relationship even more (And it was hella cute, Vid on his own tried to read to the boys or even if he and Dustin have no interest in sports they watched tv together lol), and after she settled down a bit, they got married.

She is still unemployed yet she makes some money by doing gardening and sewing, she also gets a few prizes now and then when she participates in cooking competitions, Dustin makes money not only by his part-time job in the criminal career but also by painting and sewing stuff, he managed to get an A+ and reached the Top of his Criminal career, has two Scholarships and seems he'll be ready to move to College eventually.

Beau and Theseus get some money by discovering stars or just stuff they do at school besides they have a lemonade stand. Vid had already a promotion back in Strangetown, then another one after moving with the Brokes, he does gardening as well and after rolling a want to go to the Mountains, they all are currently on Three Lakes enjoying their first family vacation

I'm stil trying to get him abducted for even more chaos in their household but it just didn't happen yet.

The Young Family (Strangetown)

Attention, long text ahead – I'm sharing a detailed account of past experiences.

If you're interested in reading a long story, you're in the right place. The introductions will probably be this long only because I have so much to share. After that, it'll mostly be pictures with short captions over time.

The Young Family: A Tale of Drama, Love, and Resilience

Four siblings, orphaned after a tragic accident, set out on vastly different paths in life. Trista, the eldest, embraced a carefree lifestyle, while Barbara, David, and Kana dreamed of building big, happy families. From whirlwind romances to cramped apartments bursting with children, each sibling's journey unfolded in unique ways.

Kana, the youngest, became the heart of the family, navigating love, betrayal, and single parenthood after a tumultuous marriage to the unfaithful Samuel. Meanwhile, her daughter Maizie faced her own struggles, eventually finding love with the much older Lutz, only to lose him too soon. Through heartbreak, resilience, and unexpected second chances, the Young family continues to grow and evolve, weaving a tapestry of joy and sorrow in Strangetown.

When I first started with the Young family two years ago, it consisted of four siblings who had tragically lost their parents in an accident. The oldest was Trista, followed by the twins Barbara and David, and finally the youngest, Kana. (All of them were originally Townies.)

While Trista was more interested in woohooing as many Sims as possible, her siblings shared a dream of building happy, loving families. Barbara led the way by marrying her teenage sweetheart, Tina Howe (another Townie). The couple moved into a cramped apartment and adopted a child, kicking off their journey toward happiness.

David wasn’t far behind. Shortly after becoming an adult, he met Trista Shaw, and the two quickly tied the knot. They moved into an equally tiny apartment—right next to Barbara and Tina—and soon their family expanded rapidly. They had one baby after another until their home, now filled with five Sims, was bursting at the seams.

Kana: The Last Young Standing As the youngest sibling, Kana inherited the Young family name. She remained in the family home as a teenager, long after her siblings had moved out and started their own lives. (Admittedly, this was a bit unfair on her, but I enjoy a good challenge!)

During her teenage years, Kana met her future husband, Samuel Kowalski, and fell for him hard. Unfortunately, she was unaware of Samuel’s unfaithful tendencies—he had several other romances on the side.

After graduating high school and becoming an adult, Kana invited the already-grown Samuel to move into the Young estate. Not long after, she discovered she was pregnant. Kana had hoped to follow the path of her siblings by marrying first and then starting a family, but life had other plans for her.

When she learned of her pregnancy, Kana was determined to get married before the baby was born. Shortly afterward, Maizie was welcomed into the world, bringing Kana immense joy. Even Samuel stepped up, investing time in his daughter’s life—though he still pursued woohoo with other Sims.

A Family Shattered When Maizie became a child, the inevitable happened. At a wedding, Samuel grew a bit too close with an old flame in front of Kana’s eyes. Furious and heartbroken, Kana decided to end their marriage—a choice that turned out to be the best thing she could have done.

Samuel moved out and began an unsettled lifestyle, bouncing between households and sleeping on couches until he eventually joined a shared home where he was the oldest resident by far. Kana and Maizie were left to fend for themselves. Though Samuel visited his daughter occasionally, Kana’s hostility toward him during these visits eventually led him to stop coming altogether.

Kana's New Life Kana embraced her newfound independence by exploring the world of woohoo. She didn’t hold back, rekindling an old flame with her high school crush—and Samuel’s sister—Vicky Kowalski, among other romantic pursuits with both men and women.

Maizie’s Struggles Maizie, on the other hand, faced significant challenges in her love life. She spent most of her adult years single, despite longing for a family. Forced to focus on her career, she was close to giving up on finding her perfect partner when she met Lutz Fuchs (known as Lazlo Curious in the English version of the game) at work.

Lutz, a widower, was much older than Maizie but was open to love and remarriage. Despite the age gap—Maizie wasn’t even halfway through her lifespan—they fell in love and got married. Lutz already had an adult son and grandchildren, but the couple was blessed with a new baby, Franklyn, who was the spitting image of his mother.

Tragically, shortly after Franklyn aged into a child, Lutz passed away due to old age, leaving Maizie and her son behind.

A New Chapter for Kana and Samuel Meanwhile, Kana and Samuel, now elders themselves, found their way back to each other. Despite the pain Samuel had caused her, Kana offered him a place back in the family home after his shared living arrangement ended. Kana had made peace with her past and decided to focus on what made her happy: having Samuel by her side while still enjoying romantic flings with other Sims.

Maizie’s New Journey Maizie, however, was left devastated by the loss of her husband. The pain grew even deeper as Maizie and Lutz had decided shortly before his death to try for another child—a wish that ultimately went unfulfilled. The fact that this dream was now forever out of reach made her loss even harder to bear. After a period of mourning, Maizie resolved to focus entirely on raising Franklyn and not to seek out another partner.

Still, her desire for a second child lingered. Eventually, she decided to adopt, bringing little Jordan—a toddler who looked strikingly like a blend of Maizie and Lutz—into their lives.

Later that week, David held a housewarming party and invited as many of his family members that could feasibly fit in his house. Miles Jr. and Ollie stood off to the side, discussing life in Strangetown. Zuri sat between her boyfriend Ben, whom was starting to get on her nerves, and Marshall. Twins Rumi and Noah took the loveseat, happy to be able to chat amongst themselves since their respective kids had kept them busy.

Meanwhile, the generation 8 kids played, running through the house like maniacs. Miles III, better known by his family as Three, played red hands with his sister Celeste. Twins Leo and Rory stood off, making jokes about their cousins. And at the end of the hallway Gavin, who was more of a step-cousin if such a thing actually existed, tormented Parker, who everyone knew was easily scared. It was a very typical Zarro family gathering.

“I wanna leave,” Gavin grumbled to his step-mother Coriana. “Nobody here likes me.” “That’s not true, Gavin,” Coriana said with a sigh. “Just...just try, ok?” David walked around the corner and smiled at the two, then tried to make himself scarce once he picked up on the tone of the conversation.

Gavin continued to grumble and Coriana rubbed her forehead in frustration. “Everything ok?” David asked, setting out appetizers for his 1000 guests. Coriana nodded curtly. “Yup,” she said. “Just another day in the life of a stepmom.”

David didn’t feel fully equipped to handle a conversation about step-parenthood and quickly retreated to his small backyard, where his nieces and nephews had gathered in a circle for a water balloon fight. “You kids want some snacks?” he called. “I’ve got finger sandwiches!”

“Later, Uncle Dave!” Parker shouted. “Come join us!” said Celeste. “No way, he’s too old!” Leo laughed. David immediately rolled up his sleeves and rushed over to the kids.  “Balloon me,” he said. Three instantly plopped a fat water balloon in his uncle’s hand. David revved up his throwing arm and threw the balloon as hard as he could, missing by a mile.

“You gotta do it like this!” Celeste called, beaning Gavin directly in the face with a water balloon. The kids (and David) laughed and jumped around as they continued to play well into the night.

As was customary with any Zarro gathering, everyone eventually began to Smustle. The music was loud and everyone headed to the patio out back to get in line to dance.

The kids joined in, learning the moves of their ancestors. With Zarro blood running through their veins, it was clear they were all naturals.

Even baby Nia bobbed along to the beat!

The giant lizard turned out quite the friendly one. It eagerly followed Ripp around, even inside his trailer. It was as clever as a stray cat. It even ate the cat food Ripp’s father brought with him on a visit.

“You know what?” the General said. “You should keep it! Maybe caring for a pet will teach you responsibility!”

Katie and Glens Newest addition to the family! A toddler left at their doorstep at dusk! Katie is skeptical of what’s to come, but she believes this child was put in front of her for a reason! She’s ready to take on the challenge!

Broke Household: Week 1

I have a mod that’s supposed to lower the chance of a Sim appearing outside of their own subhood, and I’m not sure it’s working. Jenny Smith, from Strangetown, has shown up in Pleasantview as part of the welcome wagon for the Broke family.

Despite the scripted events not working, Dustin still brought Angela Pleasant home with him after school. Just goes to show that not even broken game features can get in their way.

The house is pretty crowded with all these guests, and it’s about to get even more crowded.

Meanwhile, Beau discovers his passion for Music & Dance pretty early on.

Darren decided to teach Dustin how to bow. I’m not even sure who taught John. This greeting is spreading amongst my Sims like a disease. It’s only a matter of time before the whole uberhood leans.

Impromptu Smustle Party. My niece thinks Angela and Jenny’s faces look hilarious. I think they look possessed.

Dustin still managed to get arrested when he and Angela snuck out. I know the scripted events aren’t working because the Calientes didn’t get robbed, so this has to be a coincidence.

Beau grew into a child. His everyday outfit that the game randomized for him, which will be shown later, actually looks decent, and fits his serious and neat personality.

I like to think Dustin’s a good kid underneath. He clearly cares about his little brother, as he autonomously decided to dance with him.

First day of school, and Beau brought home Justin Kim, also not from Pleasantview (I have the Kim household placed down in Desiderata Valley).

Dustin got home from work with a promotion just as Brandi gave birth.

Meet Danny (named so that we now have two D names and two B names), who has hidden Skip Broke’s eyes, much like his brothers, but has his mother’s hair. His mother, who decided just after giving birth, and having less than §800 in household funds, that she wants 10 kids.

Dustin immediately rushed over to meet his new brother!

Cynthia Kim showed up to take Justin home, despite the fact that he already left. My best guess is that since Beau was on the phone with Justin at the time, making him present on the lot as an Off-World Loiterer, the game doesn’t recognize the difference, much like with ghost children, and sent a parent to take him home anyway.

I’m not sure babies are capable of rejecting Sims.

Dustin Being a Good Big Brother Part 3: he kept autonomously taking care of Danny throughout the week.

Brandi had been wanting to be friends with Darren Dreamer, so she invited him over two hang out.

Things didn’t go so smoothly however, as one too many diaper changes caused Brandi to go into Aspiration Failure.

Dustin and Beau both managed to get their grades up to A+.

Found out that Neat Sims will lecture babies for wetting their diaper. Since there’s no animation for children, Beau had to float in midair to lecture Danny.

Clearly the stress of single-parenthood is getting to Brandi.

Danny aged up to toddler, and uh......that’s quite a look. They don’t have a changing table to plan his outfit on, so he’s stuck with that. The hairstyle I picked is only marginally better than what he aged into, but if he’s gonna dress eccentrically, might as well go all out.

Coincidentally, the Sims with matching hair also have matching outfits.

Danny wanted a story, and Brandi was sleeping, so Dustin had to step up.

Nina Caliente randomly showed up to hang out with Brandi, and then decided to rake our yard. Uh...thanks?

Sent Dustin and Beau into town for some quality bonding time/to buy a cellphone like Dustin’s been wanting to for a while, and Beau started hanging out with Herb Oldie. That definitely seems like the sort of thing a serious kid like Beau would do.

Beau invited Justin over, and they proceeded to tag each other over and over in one spot. Apparently Sims are incapable of moving to a different level for tag.

The bowing continues.

Dustin rolled a Want to be BFFs with Gordon King. The hug is surprisingly sweet, but I doubt Brandi would approve of their friendship.

Yet another Sim enters the Dance career. Brandi wants to get a job in the Architect career, but it still hasn’t shown up, so she had to settle. Beau immediately ran up to Brandi when she got home from her first day. <3

Due to conflicting schedules, a nanny had to be hired. This one seems to be surprisingly competent. She took care of all of Danny’s needs, didn’t try to cook anything, and left when she was dismissed.

Stories or Gameplay, builds, lookbooks, edits or cc: I mainly just post edits of my Sims or some gameplay. I would LOVE to make storytelling posts (with subtitles and all of that) but I don’t know where to start & if anyone really would want to read that. Like there is story in all my Sims but I just don’t know if y’all would want to read that. But these challenges have been really fun to do! I wanna do more lookbooks though! Custom Content I’m still trying to work with but I’m struggling a little bit but soon I’ll have some for y’all!:)

Your favorite age state: I honestly enjoy them all but I wish I could do more for elders! I can’t wait for knitting!

Your favorite holiday: So in my game I have a holiday called “Summer Farewell” it happens on the last day of Summer & the day consist of chill vibes. Drinking, playing outside, swimming, bbq, fireworks, hanging with friends & family & chilling around a bonfire. It’s super chill & I honestly look forward to it. Maybe I should post more about it soon!

How was your day: It was okay. Work sucked ass. Being understaffed all the time & working with a fake ass coworker is so draining. But it got better when I got home because I played some Skyrim. Then went out to eat with my mom at Five Guys then bought myself a memorory foam bed topper from Bed Bath & Beyond. So I slept amazing last night. Now it’s Saturday & I plan on not leaving the house!

Your favorite career: Ummm that’s kinda hard because I always choose freelance careers in game because I love how your sim can stay home & just work. But it gets a little monotonous at times. I also love the teacher & administrative careers that came with Discover University!

Your favorite aspiration: I love the geeky ones, like collecting stuff & I love the family aspirations!

Your favorite EP, SP or GP: this is so hard ugh. For favorite EP it’s either Discover University or Get Together. Favorite GP is Parenthood but also Strangerville because it’s actually pretty great! Favorite SP is extremely tied between Tiny Living & Moschino for the build & buy items!

How old is your Simblr: it will be hitting one year old soon! I’ve always wanted to make one but never did. But I finally just made one. I used to blog about my sims on Amino but that community was toxic and their ways were extremely toxic & stupid. So it pushed me to make a Simblr & I loved it ever since. You can go on Amino actually and still see my posts. STORYTELLING POSTS!

I live in Texas so any chance I get to travel around, I’m always excited for it. I also love to write stories & songs. Then last I love to cook, so I’m always watching Food Network to see what ideas I can get to create in the kitchen.

Your favorite Sim (picture if possible): that is so hard because all of my sims that I post on here are my babies. So I can’t just pick one. But my favorites would have to be between Kade, Zephan & Tobias.

Which Sims games have you played (including mobile games): The Sims, The Sims 2, The Sims 2 on GameCube & the Strangetown one for PSP. Urbz on PS2 & on Gameboy. The Sims 2 Castaway. The Sims 3 on PC & PS3. SimCity 3,4,5(ew). I have never touched the mobile games & I never got to play TS3 Medeival :(

Propose a crazy scheme: Omg I know this is crazy but wouldn’t it be amazing if our Sims could own multiple homes, basically house flip & rent them out to other sims. Get that money, or let their children that are trying to move out, live in those homes. Or how crazy would it be if the roommate system wasn’t just from Discover University but was BASEGAME. DEAR LORD.

Best part of Simblr: Seeing the crazy talent & passion that simmers pour into this game. Seeing them tell awesome stories & sharing their amazing CC! Also seeing people form friendships over this game is pretty magical.

Worst part of Simblr: Seeing blog who put so much effort & work into their posts & blogs and seeing no one appreciate it. Also the bitches behind anon leaving hateful messages.

What other games you play: Stardew Valley, Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls Online, Minecraft, Pokemon, The Legend of Zelda, Cities Skylines, RDR2 & a lot more.

hey mandy! i know you play the sims and since there's a sale going on for all the packs, I was wondering which ones you would recommend out of the the expansion packs and the game packs.

Ooh yeah! I’m actually on a Sims binge currently lol. (Still working on my SPN themed world, which is taking forever)  

I’d totally recommend getting a bundle! You can choose one expansion, gamepack and stuff pack for about $50 or so bucks. I’m not sure what the discount is for bundles but when I got one last year it was like $50 (and the sale wasn’t as discounted as it is now so it might be lower idk)  I’m gonna write em all down since I’m not sure which ones you have. I’ve crossed out what I don’t have and bolded my favorites. 

EXPANSIONS

Get to Work - There’s only 3 jobs in this pack and they’re a rather...lacking. Once you do the doctor/police/science career its just repetitive. One thing I love about this pack is being able to own a retail store similar to the Sims 2 Open for Business. 

Get Together - The best part about this pack is the large world and able to create clubs which is really neat. 

City Living - APARTMENTS! ROOFTOP APARTMENTS! Do I need to say more? 

Cats & Dogs - The dog & cat CAS is the best we’ve seen so far IMO. I occasionally use this pack but caring for a dog/cat with a full family gets crazy sometimes lol. 

Seasons - The very best pack all Sims games have. 10/10 

Get Famous - I love playing a celebrity Sim but the downside to this pack is the world is pretty small. 

GAMEPACKS

These are the lowest discount I’ve seen, $11.99 for a gamepack is a steal especially for a few of them. 

Outdoor Retreat - Vacation! I sometimes take my Sims here. I use the build mode objects a lot. 

Spa Day - If you like spas, or just another lot type for variety then this is the pack for you!

Dine Out - I love restaurants. Being able to build them and run them is fun. What’s not so fun is the chaos that happens when actually dining out. 

Vampires - I’ve never played with vampires in the Sims before but I bought this pack on sale just to make Benny and the Alpha Vamp actual vampires LMAO. 

Parenthood - Its impossible to not have this pack if you play with families. 

Jungle Adventure - I don’t have this pack yet but I keep thinking of buying it just for the plants lol.  

StrangerVille - I just bought this pack so I haven’t played it yet but I love the desert world! Also a throwback to TS2 Strangetown 

Above all else, LGR on Youtube has the best review videos for packs. I’ve used his reviews since the Sims 3 to determine to get a pack or not.

I also went ahead and ranked Stuffpacks, under the cut!

STUFFPACKS 

Luxury Party Stuff - Probably the most lacking stuff pack in terms of build mode objects. Never bought it because of that

Perfect Patio Stuff - More build mode objects! That’s the entire reason I buy stuff packs lol 

Cool Kitchen Stuff - This is a good combo with Dine Out

Spooky Stuff - Halloween stuff. Never bought it but it would go with Seasons

Movie Hangout Stuff - I got this in a bundle one time but having a huge movie theater is pretty cool 

Romantic Garden Stuff - Plants for build mode!

Kids Room Stuff - Never bought this because the build mode objects don’t interest me 

Backyard Stuff - I just bought this pack but I’ve been wanting it for a while. I mainly buy stuff packs for build mode objects since I build a lot 

Vintage Glamour Stuff - Also got this one from a bundle. 

Bowling Night Stuff

Fitness Stuff - I bought this when it was on sale for $5 and the best thing about is the earbuds, so your Sim (and you!) can listen to music wherever they go. The only downside to that is you have to wait to get them via a random opportunity 

Toddler Stuff - Toddler in TS4 are the best out of the other games but IMO, I’d rather download toddler CC. Oh and you get 5 minute in a low quality ball pit that it comes with it too. (Didja get the oldschool tumblr reference? lol) 

Laundry Day Stuff - This was actually a community chosen pack! And its the best one IMO. Yep, make your Sims do boring chores like Laundry. But it adds realism to the game! And I love the build mode objects. 

My First Pet Stuff - Go donate $6 to a charity instead honestly. This is literal DLC for (Cats&Dogs) DLC. -100 / 10

I don’t have the Vampires GP. I never really played in Strangetown back in the day. I don’t like zombies and werewolves and shit. (Do like witches tho.) My favorite GP is freakin’ Parenthood. I’m not saying I won’t buy this GP, but I’m allowed to be unimpressed with something that is clearly not my thing.

Alright team, we’re in this mess together. 

So last time on The Only Way is Pleasantview, we found out that Darren had impregnated Brandi with her fifth and sixth bebs around the 20 second mark of entering her trailer (NOT A EUPHEMISM), and they hadn’t even spoken yet, let alone kissed or anything. Any number of things may have happened – they’re that attracted to one another, they both lost their respective spouses to pretty awful deaths as deaths go and that kind of raw grief makes you hella horny, they’re not getting any younger and don’t want to die alone, the LTW of 6 married children fills Brandi with determination, or any and all of the above.

And now they dance in their underwear, which, I’m not gonna lie, is toothachey sweet. I think I like these two.

Why, it’s teenage townie royalty Sophie Miguel and Princess of Strangetown Erin Beaker in her gardening gear having a dance-off! I don’t even remember anyone inviting them in. Probably because I was too busy fixing pasties for Brandi’s nekkid bewbs.

Beau: Yippity hoooo, now THIS is what I call a party! Come on Dusty, you know you want to!

Dustin: I don’t want to want to, but I sure do! It goes against every fibre of my being, and yet that smustle is infectious!

Suse has that Worried Broke Eyebrows thing down to a tee, yet she somehow manages to make even that look menacing.

I learned something today, and it’s that if Dustin sits on the floor and does his homework in the doorway of the bathroom, Brandi has to hold in her vomit and it never actually comes out. 

(Note to self: use this trick on Circe Beaker, the most morning sickness prone sim I’ve ever encountered. Seriously, at one point I thought she’d glitched because every time she sat down she ran to the toilet again.)

Oh they look so happy. They have not yet spoken a single word to one another, but the couple that does autonomous romantic interactions together every three seconds, stays together. Just look at the Burbs!

There was townie Komei Tellerman of Extreme Jawdom judging Veronaville’s Cornwall Capp though, so not a totally pointless experience.

Darren: Well, I was all set to try to steal Cassandra away and she’s got baby fever so I’ve been preparing myself for my second fatherhood for years. Plus they’re easy aren’t they, they just fall right asleep.

Yes but firstly, Cassie wasn’t already saddled with four. Secondly, I’m not sure you’re remembering early parenthood correctly. Or maybe you are, Dirk’s pretty much the perfect sim all-round, he was probably a dreamy baby.

C’mon Brandi, right all those wrongs you did Beau and get your toddlers all trained up long before their childhood transition! Although frankly, the prospect of a kid with Susie’s personality up on her feet is terrifying.

I want still that paternity test because I’m pretty sure that’s what Loki Beaker said to Vidcund Curious before he metaphorically stabbed him in the back by stealing Circe Beaker. Never have those green smileys looked creepier.

Next time, we’ll head to the Dreamers’ pad for a little look at how Darren – thanks to time standing still when you’re not on a lot – essentially woke up with two kids on the way. Imagine that!

I’ve been having real trouble making over their place, making it playable (and not painful to look at!) without losing the character of it. But I think I’ve managed it now (pictures coming tomorrow I wrote this last night, but didn’t post it) So.

Pascal: His true scientific passion is acoustics (maxed creativity), but aliens are pretty cool too. He’s not entirely sure he’s cut out for parenthood, though...

Vidcund: The most enthusiastic scientist of them all - he doesn’t care what kind of science it is - he’ll study it all! He’s incredibly neat, but his room looks a mess - you can barely see the walls for all the notes he’s stuck to them, but it makes sense to him and he knows where everything is.

Lazlo: Slightly spoilt, definitely babied and made allowances for as the baby of the family (he’s the laziest, and the youngest, yet the furthest on in his career!). He loves plants, and would love to study alien plants. Sometimes he hates living in a desert. He has an experimental garden going, in little patches all over the lot, where it only makes sense to him.

El Goodo new LP ‘Zombie’ Out Now on Strangetown Records 

El Goodo return with a fantastic new album that has taken many years to surface, but we’ll let them off as again they manage to bottle up their deliciously distinctive retro reverberations and deliver yet another classic album...to add to the pile. Authentically recorded direct to tape under the watchful eye of Welsh Producer Tim Lewis (Spiritulized,Tim Burgess), El Goodo have again created a solid ‘Classic’ LP that reflects the numerous song chopping process and has aged, matured and refined beautifully in the time it’s taken to be created.

An incomparable world of bug-eyed, harmony-rich folk-pop-psych-alt-country-rock lies in wait for intrepid listeners as the best Welsh band the world nearly forgot, El Goodo, return with only their fourth album in a 20-year career, Zombie. 

The above featured single, "The Grey Tower", is an expansive, five-minute trip through the '60s heat of Lauren Canyon and Haight-Ashbury via the picturesque Vale of Neath. The result of a rapid-fire period of easy-come recording at the legendary Rockfield Studios in the company of experimental producer, Tim Lewis (aka Thighpaulsandra, a Julian Cope collaborator and former member of Spiritualized), El Goodo's 13-track long player gathers loose ends from the band's stop-start lifespan, as well as brand new songs exploring parenthood, losing parents and -- tangentially -- Spanish surrealist film. 

Featuring over 20 musicians -- including core members Pixy Jones (lead vocals/guitars/keys), Elliott Jones (drums), Jason Jones (vocals/guitars), and Andrew Cann (bass) -- the album welcomes contributions from Sweet Baboo/Stephen Black (clarinet/bass clarinet/flute) and Welsh Music Prize-nominee, Eugene Capper (violin/slide guitar). 

The Grey Tower itself is assembled of 17 players, finessing the ride between bright, sun-dappled hippy pop and intense, squally fuzz with saxophone, harmonica, heavy strings and a Baldwin Electric Harpsichord. As well as recording Zombie direct to tape, El Goodo dug around in Lewis' rich archive of analogue equipment at his Aeriel Studios in Carmarthenshire, including a rare Univox early synth used by Joe Meek in the recording of his 1962 game-changer "Telstar" (now used by the band on "I Can't Leave"). 

The result of their journey is a rich tapestry of valve-powered sound, recalling the White Album (1968), Scott Walker, The Troggs, Gene Clark, the Beach Boys and numerous other "golden-age" sonic explorers. 

The album is named after Lewis's sadly-departed dog -- etched in the band's memories and nasal passages as a vegetable-loving creature, with noxious after effects. Forming in the late '90s, El Goodo (named after the Big Star song, "Ballad Of El Goodo") emerged with intent as not only a support band for Super Furry Animals on their 2006 UK tour, but also as label mates as the Furries released the band's self-titled debut on their Placid Casual label in 2005. The next 15 years saw El Goodo blip contentedly on the radar as a gently persistent musical jewel cherished by knowing audiophiles.
