Time for me to b educational!!! So those little translucent parts on some succulents do more than just look really cool! They help the plant photosynthesize! The light gets in through the window bit so the plant can use it :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
String of pearls have a little tiny window, and string of turtles have a whole translucent top layer that also stores water!! (Photos r of my plants)
Tumblr media
And lots of haworthias have them too!! (I found this photo on google, unsure who the owner is)
Plants are so cool :)

So one of my favourite plants that I have is the string of turtles.
It's so much my favourite, that I want it to be big and bushy. So I decided to repot it into a much larger shallow container.
Fingers crossed, I didn't make them angry. I also may have to buy cuttings to add, to make it fuller.
Time will tell.

There is a turtle in my string of turtles.
I bought this in November, it was just a tiny thing back then, maybe had enough strings to reach the edges of the pot. It's gone crazy since then, I've chopped it once to try propagating some strands and it looks like it never even had a trim.
I water propagated the trimmings. Yea, I know people will tell you that won't work for succulents, but it did. So my opinion is do what you want. It will either work or not, it worked for me and that's all I know.

What string is your favorite??
Let's talk about 4 today
1. String of pearls
The best known in my opinion. I've loved and hated the plant for years and only managed to keep one alive for 3 years now. I've tried four others, but no luck. Did you know they're actually a ground cover native to South Africa? They're a type of succulent, which means they can withstand the dryness much better than other plants. These guys can get really long, have shallow roots, and are spherical. Make sure they get enough sun, humidity, and dont overwater!
2. String of hearts
Like their name, this string looks like hearts 馃馃徎. The color variations are beautiful. They can be pink, green, and/or purple. This plant is native to South Africa as well! It's home to so many beautiful plants and wildlife.
3. String of turtles
The texture on these bad boys is what gives them their name. It looks like a turtle shell and is shaped like one to! Another variation of succulent, slow growing, and native to Brazil. Keep this guy in a warm, humid, and bright but not direct light, and he'll thrive.
4. String of dolphins
This guy looks like a string of plump dolphins. Would you guess that it's a succulent to? These guys looooveee light, so keep it somewhere sunny for 6+ hours. Be careful as these plants are toxic to pets as well as people.
