I’ve spent so many hours over the last days getting lost in little musical ideas and forgetting to eat.. 😬 Some good things happening though and maybe you’ll hear or see them at some stage.

When I’m not completely lost in my own world I’ve been reading this book The Last Overland: Singapore to London and finding endless inspiration and motivation as I start to release some new music and plan for an insane adventure of my own next year. (so beautifully lived and written Alex Bescoby!)

Lost In A Haze comes out this week!! Join me for the video premiere Thursday over on YouTube at 7pm UK time and if I’m feeling it I’ll do a little livestream on Instagram 45mins earlier and play the five new songs and one or two more.

We're going roadtripping! After the first chapter I got a song I love stuck in my head so Im sharing it here out of enthusiasm 😌

The sleeping pills have yet to kick in. Therefore, I’m going to go through my Ghost Wax playlists and explain my reasoning for certain songs. Starting with Cid. As usual most of this is post season one. This is going to get long so look and ofc hints of Vonzem/Goodnight Couple. And for this I’ll choose the lyric that cemented it as a Cid songs for me. Let’s do this!

Secret of Life- Lord Huron

To die for good, it must be earned/ The ways of death can never be learned.

Tbh, this whole songs just screams Voncid to me (I mean look at the title) There’s another lyric that also hits close to me with Cid but this. This one is mostly nodding to Voncid’s status as the last reclaimer. I can’t pull direct quotes just yet but the way he talks to Charlie and parallels there sheer differences hence my chosen for this one.

The first Goidnight couple song on the playlist from Cud’s perspective and how he can’t let Azem go and how he was willing to let the world burn just to stop from consuming Azem. I want to write a oneshot for this one tbh.

More of a nod to post season one as if posting this I haven’t listened to the Patron episodes. But after consuming Azem I do think he is going to realize he isn’t as alone as he thinks. That his relationship with Azem helped him with his other relationships. He has Luca. He has Pip. He even has Emea. And they care about him. There’s more ofc but I think these three are going to be instrumental in helping him grieve with Azem.

More Goodnight couple I can’t help it. Cid’s line in the finale where he’s talking to Azem and Azem tells him he is their love broke me.

Blood Upon the Snow- Hozier

Cid says Hamsa(sp?) are greedy things and somebody else said the hunger inside seemed personal. Then finally consuming Azem.

More Goodnight couple. Can’t really explain my reasoning for this just trust me this is a Cid song.

1 - Side characters: I'm completely fine with that! As long as, like you already said yourself, they make sense to be added, I'm good with anyone. I'm also fine with original characters, if you really need them.

2 - Songs I associate with my ships: I can only remember Silrah, Ben/Luna and Ben/Rose, so forgive me if I forgot any.

For Ben/Rose: There's this one heart wrenching song, the inspiration for a scene that has been haunting me for over a year by now (it's for a way later chapter of a wip of mine). The only spoiler I will give is that it immediately made me think of the morning after Ben receives some devastating news: Wide Awake and Dreaming (stripped duet) - OSKA, Stu Larsen.

For Ben/Luna: I hadn't thought about songs for them yet! Doing a quick scan through some of my playlists, maybe: Heal - Tom Odell ?

For Silrah: Oh my goodness this was HARD! I have a Silrah playlist with currently 160+ songs I had to filter through for this (as you said, too many, lol). There’s a few different themes in there, mainly around different periods in Saul’s and Farah’s lives, but also plenty that are linked to certain stories in my mind/wip folder (so those are rather specific). I’ve tried to keep it to three of my current favorites, in no particular order:

Who We Are - Hozier. I suppose it’s actually a breakup song, but a lot of the lyrics just feel very fitting for them post Aster Dell. So much of our life is just carving through the dark, or You and I burned out our steam, chasing someone else's dream. Perfect.

Oblivion - Bastille. Saul's worries towards Farah. Makes me think of that scene with the two of them in Farah's office, when he asks her if she got hurt by the burned one. In the context of S1, pre-episode 6 Silrah, these two lines in particular seem very foreboding: Are you going to age with grace? Are you going to leave a path to trace?. Ahh, my heart.

Hurricane - Tommee Profitt, Fleurie. Could be them during any time period, really. But probably works best right after Aster Dell.

Angst, pining, pain, what else could make me think of these two idiots? I promise, there’s sweeter/nicer ones on there too. I think.

Bonus crack: Saul is a contra-bass. Farah is an alt-violin. Ben is a bagpipe. Rose is a transverse flute. Luna is a triangle. Make of that what you will😏.

3 - Mulled Wine: I realise I said mulled wine previously when I meant glühwein, my bad! Is mulled wine the same as glühwein, or different? I’ve only ever had glühwein, and I genuinely don’t know any other spice combination than sticks of cinnamon, whole star-anise, and cloves. Now I’m wondering what other things I could throw in there👀.

These were fun again! I’m glad to not have seen the last of you😁

Sometimes I get high on life or love and I disappear into some kind of emotional Xanadu for a while. I love these seasons. Where everything is possible. And anything can happen. And then, for whatever reason, it’s gone. It’s hard to come down from that high place. I’m still working on it. 

This new demo is a sad one. But it’s beautiful. (I promise to write at least one happy song this year…)
