A cold day with a wicked damp that soaks into your bones and leaves you shivering.
An auction Saturday, and we all met inside the former pig slaughterhouse which serves as Dave Stuart’s emporium of useless things.
The usual suspects were all in attendance, going through their paces and buying anything that hammers out at under five pounds - regardless of actual need.
Desire is a peculiar thing. Watching from the corner of the room, I try to understand the steps of the dance. One bids, and everyone waits. Dave scans the floor from his elevated perch at the podium. A wink, a finger waggles, an eyebrow is raised - the bidding begins.
Pat and Eileen. He has had cancer in his bones for the last four years. He has fought the fight, but the remission ended in the Spring and he is back in radiation and chemo. Bloated, pasty, and exhausted - he sits beside Eileen and watches the auction unfold before him.
Pat’s hair has fallen out in patches, his bare head shows through the remaining thatch. He bids on an old iron nail-puller, and a galvanized bucket.
Pat is buying tools he will never use.
Eileen sits close beside him. She too looks exhausted. Grim and determined, she holds his hand tightly in hers, and avoids my gaze.
Fiona. She wears a 1970’s black mink jacket, jeans and tall boots - a vintage Coach bag is slung across her shoulder. She’s very pale, and her rouge shows too brightly in small pink circles on both cheeks. Her hair is dyed a profound inky black not seen in nature, parted down the middle and pulled tightly back from her face. She is of an indeterminate age - possibly 40’s? Her makeup gives her the face of a haggard wooden doll - she is in danger of “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane “ territory in the very near future .
Fiona buys vast amounts of crap. Every week, she bids on anything under five bucks, regardless of quality or actual usefulness. She is a hoarder, and this is her shopping mall. I cant imagine what her home must look like….
Mr and Mrs Neck-Beard. Scraggly, unshaven, uncombed and yes - unwashed. They are at every sale and buy crap to resell at boot sales? I’m never sure if this is what really happens to the stuff they purchase every week - just a guess. Mrs Neck-Beard scribbles obsessively on the xeroxed listing of things for sale, recording every price of every item in the margins with the stub of a yellow pencil. They are grim-faced and don’t seem to be having any fun whatsoever. They both pretend that I am imaginary - never once acknowledging my hello. It’s been YEARS.
There is a new pair of regulars now. He wears a knit hat yanked down over his ears, a long greasy grey ponytail hangs out the back. His wife is barking-mad. A large lump of a woman in a filthy coat, dead-eyes, and for some reason - wearing a child’s teddy bear shaped hat. Round ears, black nose, and all. She brings him tea in a paper cup, and then sits down at the opposite end of the room. He does the bidding, and occasionally will be a nuisance bidding against me or Brian. He is cheap and falls out at the 20 pound mark…
Just some of the humans today.
Lives that meet up on a cold cement slaughterhouse floor to haggle over the flotsam and jetsam of the past.
They fascinate me, and I love them all. (Don’t tell them. Let it be a surprise.)

Heat Exchanger Re-Tubing.
SUBZERO SOLUTION is a RE-TUBING TOOL manufacturers in India. Tubes for heat exchangers are continuously expanding and shrinking as they heat and cool down in normal operation. The application of saltwater scale or calcium Lyme and other contaminants could exacerbate the issue, leading to further degrading. As time passes, these elements will eventually cause failure, and the tubing needs to be replaced. If you have the complete re-tubing of your heat exchanger service it is possible to be able :
● Get rid of damaged, corroded, and worn-out tubes.
● Clean and prepare tube sheets.
● Supply the replacement of the tube you require (or utilize tubes that are supplied by the customer).
● Make new tubes.
● Assist with pressure or hydro testing of the heat exchanger.
● Remove, charge and then restart the system.
● Recycle old tubing material and you will receive salvage credits that can be subtracted from the final cost.
In each heat exchanger re-tubing attempts to upgrade the tubing to achieve greater efficiency in energy use. In most cases, the use of a stronger alloy can extend the time-to-life for the equipment. Before replacing expensive equipment, speak to the Heat Exchanger Experts at Subzero Solutions regarding our cost-effective, reliable refurbishing and re-tubing services. Subzero Solutions' full-service re-tubing tools can resolve every heat exchanger problem. Through significant contributions to the design of the tool and methods that have significantly reduced the time needed to replace a condenser.
