these methods are what are helping me the most to learn spanish:

1. Label Your Household Items: Place labels with Spanish names on objects around your home. This constant exposure helps reinforce vocabulary in a practical context.

2. Create a “Spanish Only” Zone: Designate a specific area or time each day where you only use Spanish. This could be a room or a period during which you read, watch TV, or speak only in Spanish.

3. Use a Spaced Repetition System (SRS) for Vocabulary: Instead of traditional flashcards, use an SRS app to review words and phrases at increasing intervals. This method helps improve long-term retention of vocabulary.

4. Write a Diary in Spanish: Keep a daily journal in Spanish. This practice helps you think in the language and improve writing skills while reflecting on your day.

5. Sing Along with Spanish Music: Choose songs in Spanish and sing along, paying attention to the lyrics. This helps with pronunciation, rhythm, and understanding colloquial expressions.

6. Learn Through Role-Playing: Act out scenarios in Spanish, such as ordering food in a restaurant or asking for directions. This method helps you practice practical language use in a fun and interactive way.

Important: Methods can change depending on what works for you, so try everything you can. Methods can also turn out to be less effective as you gain more knowledge.

Just decided to dedicate this page to something much more inspirational for myself. I'm currently working with 3 languages, among them: English (C1+), Spanish (A2+) and Chinese (А1). This is not to mention Russian being my national language (contrary to popular stereotypes, there is still some work with it on daily basis).

Language study and work is my personal micro-world that has been growing for years. A study that I dedicate most of my time to, whether free or occupied. And I am finally ready to share bits and pieces of this work, starting with Tumblr)

There is something to be said about myself and it is that I adore getting my degree and working on something I love, though only on beginners stage. My work, surprisingly, started with Spanish, rather than English, however, I couldn't be more thankful for the opportunity that I was provided with.

This page is for everything, from quick mindnotes to ideas and suggestions that hopefully will be somewhat useful to other people like me and completely not like me.

This is the beginning of my path as a teacher, educator, learner, seeker and adventurer in the world of languages. And I would be incredibly pleased if you could share this path with me:)

How I am planning on going from A2 to B2 Spanish in 4 months

Month 1

I am going to try and work through a massive textbook that I have (here is the link). I’m going to learn the vocabulary using anki, and do all of the exercises, though I won’t write notes to save time. 

After I have finished each chapter, I will have a conversation with my friend in Spanish, and write a page in my journal.

I will also listen to lots of Dreaming Spanish.

Months 2 - 4

I will listen to Dreaming Spanish, Intermediate Spanish Podcast, Notes in Spanish Intermediate, Españolistos and News in Slow Spanish (Spain).

I am going to shadow Easy Spanish videos.

I’ll use LingoPie to watch TV shows and films in Spanish.

I’m going to keep a daily journal in Spanish (which I will post on Journaly).

I’m going to have thrice weekly speaking sessions with my friend.

I’m going to read lots of fanfiction in Spanish.

I will also watch YouTube videos in Spanish.

I’m going to read El Mundo daily.

I’ll try to write an essay once every two weeks.

That’s my plan and I hope it’ll be enough. Wish me luck!

Aprendo español actualmente

In order to hold myself accountable, I am posting on Tumblr to say that I am now going to be learning Spanish. I have no excuse - I am no longer at university and I am currently living at home. While commuting to and from work, I will have plenty of time to improve my Spanish!

I’m Em, welcome to my new blog.

This will basically just consist of posts about language learning, but I’m also open to questions about my journey and language learning in general.

Languages I’m currently learning:

- Spanish/Español

I’ve been learning Spanish in school for 3 and a half years. If I’m being honest, I only began taking it because I felt it would help me in the future when applying to colleges. However, recently I started taking my learning more seriously, so I’ve been reviewing and such. I don’t understand really anything I should understand, but I will eventually. 🙏

- Korean/한국어

I’ve been self-studying Korean off and on since December 2022. I’m really into K-pop, K-dramas and Korean culture. I’m hoping to visit Korea when I graduate. It’s crazy but I understand more Korean than I do Spanish… 😅 I find Korean really fun and really easy (at least for now…) and I can’t wait to progress!

i just had an entire (text) conversation in spanish and im feeling oddly proud of myself. i’ve never taken a single spanish course so most of it was guessing from portuguese but, wow i’m really happy!

Y'all... I'm taking a Spanish class.... It's the easiest A of my life and my conversations partner actually happy cried when she found out I'm fluent. She said this is her second time in this class, a retake, and last time it took 2 hours to do the Convo homework. We were done in 30-40minutes and it only took that long bc we talked so much lol.
