Todays Word Of The Day is: Sycophant
Sycophant originates from Greek sykophantes(informer). The word combines "sykon"(fig) and "phainein"(to show). It entered English in the 16th century.

Happy 1 Year Anniversary to the QSMP!
Unfortunately, I don't have any time to do a fun little video compilation of clips like I wanted to, so instead, here's a revamp of one of my favorite silly edits I've done for this series so far! :'D

honestly can we talk about how over house chase is in s3
when he told wilson "i'm not waiting anymore" he fucking meant it. he seriously goes the rest of the season ignoring house, overriding him, pushing his own ideas over house's — by the end of the season he's doing it to house's face, calling him out on his lies/manipulations. (he also, amusingly/predictably, transfers all his asskissing to cameron.) it gets overshadowed by foreman's resignation/fall into despair and by cameron's similar but more obvious disillusionment, but it's. it's very much there. i'm watching half wit, and sure, we have the crying and the hug — chase still likes house — but we also have house ordering the team to do a procedure and chase, not foreman or cameron, being the one to tell him no.
and this leads directly into his 'boundaries era' of s4-5, which again — it isn't that chase dislikes house. he's always liked house. but he isn't seeking approval. he isn't trying to win house over. he has a job he's fantastic at, he has a life outside diagnostics, he doesn't need house, and he's no longer sucking up and trying to win favor. even when chase returns to the team, he never reverts to his s2 "lapdog" persona; he's quite willing to go behind house's back or over his head whenever he feels it's necessary (from private lives's "i noticed this and did a whole procedure on my own last night" to the c word's "house isn't available so i'm going to figure this out myself"); he isn't doting or passive.
and it all really does go back to finding judas, and that punch. chase isn't waiting anymore, and he never really looks for house's approval in the same way ever again.

Thinking about how outside of like, giles and joyce, spike and anya are the only people in the group who understand how to run a household and finances and shit because of the eras they’re from and the ages they were when they became demons

Todays Word Of The Day is: Toady
Toady originated in the 17th century as a shorter form of toad-eater(a charlatan's assistant who pretended to eat toads). Toads were falsely believed to be poisonous. Eating a toad was seen as a way to demonstrate the charlatan's curing ability.

your essay on WHA reminded me of my original assumption around its plot - when I picked it up I only knew that its protagonist was a girl who wanted to be a witch but wasn't, and the title (obviously), so I assumed she joined an atelier that makes and designs witch hats as an employee/apprentice, since that would be the closest she could get to witch society. Then the remainder of the story would be told from this fringe perspective, which I thought would be really interesting and cute. Obviously I immediately realised the story went into a totally different direction, but your talking about how normal people live in fantasy worlds reminded me of it. Tbh it also reminds me of MHA (not sure if you've ever read/watched it) where the main character wants to be a hero but doesn't have superpowers, and instead of exploring that perspective he's immediately given super strong powers lol. It usually annoys me when this happens, because I feel like the story becomes less interesting when the MC leaves the out-group for the in-group in like chapter 1 (even if it comes at a price).
I'm pretty sure either you told me about this before, someone /else/ told me about this before, or this was also a thought I had because yeah I absolutely see it and am already familiar with the idea! Even more that I first got introduced to it in french where the title translates to "the wizards' workshop"...
Your idea of an outsider trying to get close to witch society would have been so much more up my alley ha :'D even if I ain't complaining about the actual plot too much! I hope Coco's background gets centered more often in the future, asides of obviously her tricky position regarding what "being" a witch is. Love when her crafting skills learned from her mother are relevant for example the pen Tartah makes her!
I wish I could tell you, "oh read this it does that" but seeing fantasy through normal people's eyes is super rare in the genre? I assume most people are there for the magic and want to experience that stuff closely instead of from afar, and like high stakes. I've read stories in fantastical settings that centers nobodies but it's not typically settings with magic and wizards and whatnot.
Start motivating me to finish my Coustas fancomic projects, I guess

love living in a country that's utterly starved for nurses, teachers, and care workers but has plenty of staffing for nine million rent-seeking third-party bullshits like digital signature platforms and payment portals etc. and also everyone is still having to work multiple jobs and at the same time millions of others are languishing in unemployment because basically no one can get hired right now, and now the pool of folks desperately trying to get a job is fathoms and fathoms deeper because tens of thousands of the most dedicated workers in the United States recently got shitcanned via email by the jackoff who bought first Twitter and then the federal government
but by god are we just saturated with third-party hoops to endlessly jump through in this utter circus

I don’t typically like when star trek characters reference legacy characters just to talk about how great and perfect they are but I do like this route where even though Tuvok calls him a great visionary in the end he brings Spock up to say he argued with him. I think this is the way of the future. Lean in. Star Trek characters should say things like ‘An old man cut me off in space traffic the other day. I think it was McCoy?’ and another should nod and shake their head like he’s always doing that shit
