SunFest 2016

SunFest was a party sponsored by produce companies Sunlight International, Sun World, and Sun Pacific held during the weekend of PMA. The marketing was made to invoke a grungy rock concert, celebrating the band, Lucero, and the party’s attitude of being high on fun and low on spectacle.

“Can You Feel It" is about dealing with self-doubt during those critical moments that ultimately define who we become. Should you follow your heart or will you be guided by the voices in your head, discouraged by others opinions, social norms, and the fear of the unknown? Ultimately, it’s you who has to forever live with your endeavors and decisions (art, relationships, career, etc..) so we should make damn sure it comes from the gut."

Sometimes inspiration strikes from the immersion of living in a faraway place. The view of the ocean. The sound of a rainforest at sunrise. The smell of an open-air market. The embrace of the wild human experience. However, maybe the nostalgia for a certain place might be attributed instead to a feeling, or a time, or even a person. Sometimes, inspiration stems from a place that everyone can relate to, but maybe no one’s actually been. This is the music of The Hip Abduction, the vibrant St. Petersburg, FL-based collective. 

The Hip Abduction (THA) began through informal jam sessions and quickly coalesced into a sound that attracted national attention. For “Gold Under the Glow”, the band’s third full album released on March 11, 2016, THA engage an indie pop acumen alongside a highly emotive and roots-driven sound. Recorded in Nashville, Gold Under the Glow was produced by Dabney Morris (Wild Cub) who is credited with incorporating synth-pop teeth into the band’s global foundation and summery vibe. It’s a smart blending of world pop and club aesthetics that appeals to both audiences. The Hip Abduction featuring David New (lead vocals, guitar), Chris Powers (bass), Dave Johnson (baritone, tenor sax), Cody Moore  (keyboards, sax), Matt Poynter (drums, vocals) and Justino Lee Walker (guitar, vocals, sitar) have shared stages with the likes of Grace Potter, Galactic, The Revivalists, Ziggy Marley, Umphrey’s McGee, Thievery Corporation, Matisyahu, 311, Galactic, and Moon Taxi and has performed at Shaky Knees, FloydFest, Wanee Music Festival, Suwannee Hulaween, Deep Roots Mountain Revival, Sunfest, Orange Blossom Jamboree, Tropical Heatwave Music Festival, The BIG What? and more. Watch out for more festival plays in 2018 including Red Rocks Amphitheater, California Roots Festival, Blue Plum Festival, Camp Bisco, Duck Creek Log Jam, Camp Deep End and more as well as coast to coast dates.

Were you at Sunfest in Palm Beach – 2016?

It is getting to the point where I am beginning to recall dates off of the Paper Gods tour on our “day in Duran history” calendar.  That seems hard to believe. Just last year on this very day, Duran Duran played in Palm Beach at Sunfest. It was a date on the Paper Gods tour, and the album still had that new car feeling. We’d had the music for a while, but it still felt new.

Sunfest 2016 i saw walk the moon. But like im not a big fan so it wasnt that big of a deal. I wanna see Threw Days Grace in april since theyre performing at some festival in orlando. I was also thinking of seeing Lorde in tampa in april but idk if ill have a car around that time. What about you?

Wavves Announce 2017 Tour With Blink-182

Wavves have announced a new tour, supporting Blink-182. The band will head out across America, beginning on April 21 with a show in Amarillo, Texas at Aztec Music Hall. The Naked and Famous will join for select dates. Check out the tour schedule below.

Late last year, Nathan Williams announced that the band’s new album had been completed and would be out in April. Earlier in 2016, Wavves teamed up with Weezer for a special collaborative 7", which included a Wavves cover of Weezer’s “You Gave Your Love to Me Softly.” Williams most recently collaborated with his brother Joel on a video game in which the player can punch white nationalist Richard Spencer in the face.
