i know that some of the sb producers confirmed that the widow's mite is the very last ep of reimagined but it would be funny if cbn just said "sike" and announced s6

since most people in the fandom were waiting for s6 and were also making predictions, here are the most common ones that i've found (disclaimer: these aren't my predictions, these were entirely ones that were from stuff i've seen in the fandom):

• one of the episodes will be a samson and delilah ep

• chris and joy will be teens. this is actually a smart idea bc they are used as a reflection of what kids/preteens or people in general go through (cbn's words, not mine). if they use(d) this idea, then cbn would show what it's like to be in your teenage years and how to deal with the struggles of being one using the kids as examples

• sb would delve into darker concepts even more (i know the series delved into darker concepts before like death/grief being the most major ones)

• the kids would eventually become adults, play house and let their children live on their legacy or at least somewhere in the series they would have a crush on each other

if i missed anything, then i'll just find it idk

b u t , cbn did confirm that they'll do more for the series this year and i'm hoping to God that it won't be low budget gizmo content (dw i'm not throwing shade at gizmo go, i'm referring to the specials). the fandom's just starved for more sb news and canon media at this point. like,,, at least leak deleted scenes from the storyboards/animatics or scrapped parts from past scripts please

also thank God for the sb producers/people behind sb bc they spill almost everything abt the series. apparently, there was supposed to be a s6/other seasons and even a film but of course, cbn ruins things by scrapping the idea. on top of that, we had a rushed s5 that was beginning to be good but the later eps were boring. thanks a lot, gordon...

The real problem with Superbook is they never established if Gizmo the Crusading Robot had an immortal soul. How am I to enjoy this anime about kids going back in time to Bible stories if I don't know if their robot can go to heaven or not?

Dot is a princess doll since Gizmo is a wind-up toy, and B-777 is a babysitter robot. I could go full on detail about them but I think I'd ramble a bit too much haha!!

prologue:

in 2006-07, pat robertson stepped down as the ceo of cbn and appointed his son, gordon, to take his place. one of the first things gordon did for the network was to plan a reboot for one of their shows. this turned into the little, soon to be big, project called superbook reimagined

with the reboot, the whole premise of the plot was the same as the original. oppositely, the names for the kids (minus gizmo) were different. they were no longer called chris peeper and joy but they were known as "two typical 22nd century friends" who go by the names of chris quantum and joy pepper

reimagined, of course, did bring a divide within the classic fandom since the majority hated the reboot (due to its multiple changes) while a handful of people appreciated the futuristic aspect of the series

an introduction to reimagined:

• developed in 2006-07, pilot aired around 2008-09, released in 2011 and ended in 2021

• the show is set around the 22nd century

• the series was nominated for a daytime emmy award for its main title, graphic design and opening/promotions back in 2014*

• in 2006, the working title for the series was going to be superbook 2.0, but it later changed into the official title of superbook reimagined instead

• while many can remember a giant adventure to be the 6th episode of s1, it was actually used as the first ever pilot of the series

• according to one of the art directors and designers for sb, reimagined was originally planned to be in 2d, but cbn scrapped the idea and wanted it to be in 3d instead. the reason was that in order to air reimagined to one of their main geographic targets (china), they therefore changed the animation style. however, *it was confirmed by the senior producer that there was a test pilot before the final product of a giant adventure

• reimagined has two official taglines: "his word's forever alive!" and "the bible is alive!"

• in 2016, cbn released a video titled superbook's gospel presentation and there were three versions of the same presentation that featured chris, joy and gizmo respectively. there were many changes to the presentation depending on which version you were viewing. for example, one part of the chris version has him saying "God made you, uniquely you, and has a very cool plan for your life" whereas joy and giz's versions cut out the "very cool" part. another thing that's different is after peter's apology, chris and joy's versions say "so, what do you think? it's not that complicated, is it?". gizmo's version completely cuts out this part and says something else. on the official sb youtube channel, you can only find chris and joy's versions but you can find giz's version on dailymotion.

(fun fact: the presentation that is normally used within official media is joy's version!)

• there are multiple references to classic in reimagined. for example, there is concept art of classic gizmo in the professor's lab, a picture of the classic trio in chris' bedroom, a toy of classic giz in the downstairs hallway of the quantums' house and reimagined joy's surname (pepper is an allusion to peeper)

• (cont.) the kids' names in some international dubs are changed to the classic versions. compared to the classic japanese ver, the japanese ver of reimagined doesn't keep the original names of chris and joy, however, they still keep the western names (supposedly, this might be due to copyright entanglements with tatsunoko productions)

• in 2018, reimagined made its japanese debut since 1981 and was well received

• during the development of reimagined, cbn released an official fan website for sb. it included videos of classic's history, games, a forum feature and etc.

• both chris and joy's surnames are a reflection of their family and their personal interests. chris' surname is quantum because his father and his late maternal grandad are/were scientists. it's also a reference to the discrete amount of energy in physics, which is also called a quantum. joy's surname is pepper because her family is associated with cooking (for example, her parents own a pizzeria, her grandma taught her how to bake at a young age and she herself has culinary expertise). it's also a reference to the vegetable/spice

• in 2023, cbn started a project to translate reimagined in sign language. this has only happened in bsl (british sign language) and the first christmas was the first episode that has been fully translated

• in 2015, cbn introduced a "curriculum" based on the series so that it could be used in schools, churches or in the home

• although you can't find this on the official english website or any other sb website, the indonesian website actually explains why the main trio is relevant to the series. for example, chris and joy were made to mirror what children (or people in general) go through in their lives (like grief, bullying, peer pressure, cheating or disobedience) and gizmo, albeit the fact that he's there to be comic relief, was also made to add historical, chronological and geographical information about the place that they've travelled to. plus, the scripts also have a rule that the kids and giz can't tamper with the history, culture or the biblical scenarios that take place

• back in 2006, cbn held an experiment with both children and fans of classic sb.* the experiment was based off past designs of chris, joy and gizmo. the results showed that most of the participants hated the concept designs of the trio (especially giz's) and cbn decided to change to the ones that we now know of (which was accepted by both participants). the experiment wasn't the only reason why they had design changes. while the pilot was in process and due to the scrapped 2d concepts, it was hard for the producers to look for suitable 3d studios that would take on the idea of animating the series and when they did find one, they had to change the concept designs (according to one of the production studios that cbn worked closely with)

• in other countries, the translated title for the series is "the book of books", which is a direct reference to the bible literally being a book of books

If you’ve only seen the rebooted Superbook series, please check out the original anime! It’s priceless. A few highlights:

“I bet that’s the first time anyone has said ‘Merry Christmas’ to a Christmas tree!” Christopher Peeper is the cutest.

“We’re in the middle of nowhere.” “This does not compute. One must be somewhere to be in the middle.” I love Gizmo. You might assume he’s just being logical, but the rest of the episode will prove this robot got sass.

The moment Mary and Joseph offer the kids food Chris just STUFFS his face to the point of choking. Can relate.

It’s a bit wild that instead of the usual, “How can this be since I’m a virgin?” they went with, “How can this be? I’ve never been intimate with a man.” I think that was my first clue about where babies came from O_O

“When I grow up, I’m going to marry a handsome man like Joseph!” “Did an angel tell you that?” Again, I love Gizmo.

“But that’s a stable, what are they doing there?” Chris I thought you said you knew the story of the first Christmas. Have you never seen a Christmas pageant?

I can’t believe Chris’s first emotional response to seeing Mary hold baby Jesus was to leave and PUNCH A TREE

Even when he’s trying to act nice, the voice actor playing Herod has “evil guy” voice, complete with ~snICkerINg~ and ~INHALATIONS~

it was really fun to read and it felt like an episode of sb but extended and not in the typical sb formula! the last update was from april of last year, sadly...

these three ffs are from the same person! the concept of them was really unique in the sense that they'd also include drawings too so it felt like reading a webtoon rather than your typical ff on wattpad

all two (or three in this case) are from the author's vision of what a future season 6 would be like. compared to the canon reimagined episodes, it includes even more mature themes and the kids are now in their late teens!

don't ask why the classic versions aren't here. it's bc i'm too tired to do one for them as well (i've got some for them dw). i meant to post this a while ago but hey-ho. i thought "why be a wuss when i can post these myself!"

(also cbn hmu if you want ideas from me yk just saying)

• they first met at an overseas resort when they were younger (around 5 or 6 years old). when they found out that they're both next door neighbours back in valleyview and that chris was going to be enrolling in joy's primary school, they became inseparable

• they're born on the same year but joy's a month older (they're both summer babies)

• chris is very much the touchy feely type. joy, on the other hand, isn't very quick to show pda but she'll do it every now and then. due to this, most people at school think they're dating. they either play into the rumours to take the absolute mick out of their classmates or they would shut down the rumours immediately bc they don't fiddle around with the idea

• chris' middle name is joshua (idk i have this headcanon bc he looks like a joshua and because his middle name canonically starts with a j)

• joy's middle name is lisette (i was actually thinking of her middle name to be aline bc one of her international names is aline but i don't think it would fit her name)

• they're both night owls

• whenever they go to a supermarket and they're in the fruit and veg section, chris always picks up a pepper and lends it to joy

• albeit the fact that she's very energetic, joy tends to be sleepy and gets into trouble for it sometimes

• they're definitely rin and len coded

• superbook visits the kids every now and then and checks up on them to see how they are. obviously, chris and joy use this time as an excuse to spill the tea on what's happening in their daily lives or they just vent to sb

• while they were younger, chris was taller than joy. it wasn't until joy started puberty when she was around 10 where she had a growth spurt and became taller than chris

• (it's not exactly the kids, but it's related to them) joy's parents' first names are richard and lori

• back when chris was 7, one summer of valleyview was hot. what did he decide to do? he climbed into the freezer of his kitchen and stayed there for 5 minutes (of course, giz had to get chris out of there before either crispin or phoebe could start a fuss abt why he was there in the first place)

• they're very telepathic

• joy's hair was originally short (this poor girl had the alice cullen/lisa rinna haircut while she was 3-8 btw) and was styled as a half up half down hairstyle with two sided pigtails. when she was 9, she decided to grow out her hair to how it is now. of course, she styles her hair like her mum, but now mrs pepper has a bob (in other episodes, her mum did have a similar hairstyle like joy's)

• gizmo is pretty much their younger sibling. he just acts like one and it prompts the kids to be parental/sibling figures for him even though his maturity develops when chris develops

(i love how this is kinda canon bc in one of the "ask gizmo" segments, giz actually says that he sees chris and joy as his siblings. it's sweet considering the fact that chris and him have been together since chris' birth and joy acts as an older sister to him as well)

• while joy is known for her pretty facial features and her signature headband, chris is known for his s- eating grin that'll make anyone think he's up to mischief (and most likely, he is)

• chris has a tendency to nickname joy "princess". his excuse is that "she's bossy like one" while joy normally calls chris "einstein" bc he thinks he's smart when he comes up with really dumb ideas

• even though she's focused on playing the cello, joy's vocal talent was discovered by none other than chris himself. he was the one that prompted her to sing more and to be in the church's praise and worship team with him (e.g: the promise of a child and rescued!)
