Chrom, having just moved to the Monastery, has seen to it to say hello to his fellow faculty within the Black Eagles. He was, after all, one to want to set off on the right foot with those he had yet to know.
His approach to Nel had been no different. 'Hello, nice to meet you. I'm Chrom, I hear we'll be working together' were the words he most wished to say to his coworkers to be.
He hadn't been allowed such an approach though, when it came to introducing himself to Nel.
The eyes. The eyes had been what he noticed first. Nothing else had filled his senses thereafter. Were he holding something in that moment, he knew, he would've dropped it. He wanted to reach for his blade, for his implement. After all, that is what his instincts screamed at him, but he hadn't.
Instead, conversation, though without that friendly tone he hoped to behold, took hold.
"Who are you," he asked, his voice laced with cautious disdain, "and what business do you have with the Monastery?"
A dragon's memory is quite impressive for their lifespan- while it's true that names and faces would fade over centuries of time, it's rare that Nel fails to recall the visages of those she's met. It becomes a reasonable assumption for Chrom to be a stranger, but the second she turns to address his arrival... the scornful look tossed in her direction nearly makes her believe that they've met in some distant land. Yet she can't think of a man that looks anything like him, and dark brows arch for a split second as a reflexive reaction to the words sent in her direction. "... I am a faculty member of the Black Eagles house, if you are so curious," Nel begins in her svelte tone, eyes narrowing slightly as she struggles to gauge the direction in which this conversation is meant to go. There's clearly apprehension here, and she certainly doesn't intend to stoke those flames-- so she offers him her full attention, arms crossed over her chest as the corners of her lips twitch into the slightest hint of a frown. "An instructor who specializes in lances." It takes only a heartbeat more for things to shift into perspective, and Nel thinks she has an inkling as to why this strange approached in the way he had. Does he know of her origins? It never had been kept as a secret upon her arrival, as Rafal made no effort to conceal his history either. "If my presence has set you on edge, you are not the only one." There's no apologies to be made for being who she is, for being born as a Fell Dragon. The crimes committed by her kind are not hers to bear, and there's a hint of defiance that flashes in the depths of her ruby eyes at the thought. "Yet you still approach. Why is that? If you seek to play the role of hero... I am not the one you should be opposing."

Being in a position like hers, Alear's had enough experience being shoved into stuffy clothing for the sake of appearances. This, however, is a completely different matter-- the corset around her waist feels more like rope binding her in place, a wince plastering itself across her face as the veil over her eyes shields the expression she makes from the guests that crowd around her and the man assigned to her as her 'groom'-- Emblem Chrom, of all people. This is a moment where she's extremely grateful that he wouldn't recall the times they've spent together, as it shields her pride a bit from the severe blow it's taking from being touted as his... his... wife-to-be. She just has to remind herself that it's for a good reason. Really! To shield a young couple from those who would love to see their downfall, to allow their love to blossom instead of being stomped out before it truly has a chance to develop.... Alear heaves a sigh there-- well, as much as she can, anyways. The way the bodice digs into her ribs causes it to sound more like a wheeze than anything, and she turns to offer Chrom a quick wave. "I apologize, we haven't had a chance for proper introductions yet," Alear extends a gloved hand to him, raising her veil with the other just enough to flash a smile in his direction. It's strange, pretending like they haven't spent time together at each other's side... but she understands, and perhaps it's a conversation topic for a later moment. "Not the best circumstances for us to become acquainted in... but I'm Alear." "Sounds like they were desperate for help. And, well, I'm not one to turn someone down when they need a hand like this... though I didn't expect to be playing the role of the bride!" "I think just being a bodyguard would've been much, much easier..." @soulsaligned
not the 'engage' i meant...

chrom and inigo as father and son are so very dear to me and i understand that parent supports in awakening are all generic so any patterns that i see are unintentional and just coincidence and blah blah blah but i dont care, they are so fascinating to me. because if you compare how they interact in inigo’s parent support versus lucina and chrom’s support theres a clear difference in attitude chrom has towards inigo and its not something that i would call malice or dislike but its something more like… a lack of faith? he essentially acts as if hes waiting for inigo’s misstep, as opposed to lucina who he whole heartedly trusts and supports. i think thats so interesting because when you go into the future past conversations (WHICH ARE NOT GENERIC. and also happen after the C-A supports), chrom tells inigo that he sees so much of himself in inigo, and they’re more alike than they think beyond just the surface level hair and face and. everything. and i think thats so fun because its true!! everything inigo faces in regards to his position as a prince—chrom does too! the older sister whos way better at the job than you, feeling anxiety over whether or not your personality/worldview makes you fit to lead, their brash attitudes, the mistakes that they make while figuring it out, its all there! and i think its that similarity that ticks chrom off in the initial support because wheras lucina represents everything he sees as successful, inigo carries with him the opposite: everything chrom doesnt like about himself. his uncertainties! and thats fucked up to take out on your kid, obviously, but like. to be fair chrom was suddenly handed an adult son from thin air at the age of like 25. but then he goes and he learns about him and realizes that where they share their flaws, they share strengths as well, giving chrom the wisdom to have that much more productive conversation in the dlc, encouraging inigo instead of pushing him down, because its everything that maybe chrom needed to hear at some point too. isnt it fucked up how none of this is canon like what the hell

"Laaaaaaaaaaaadies and gentlemen, party people! Our next event of the evening is a friendly little competition... a test of your reflexes, your dexterity-- and even your bravery!" Someone that Say'ri doesn't recognize is shouting into the night, a crowd of students and faculty alike seemingly enthralled by the challenges that the announcer keeps proposing to any and all that are interested. This one in particular has caught her attention, though, at the mention of putting her nerves to the test-- and she pauses to hear out the rest of the details provided. "The name of the game is simple. Twisterrrrrrr! Step on up, spin the wheel, and find out what's goin' where! It'd be easy if it was just you, though... so good luck winding and weavin' around your opponents!" This is certainly nothing like she's seen in Chon'sin, dark eyes sweeping across the wheel set up, before settling on the mat stretched out across the sand. She's suddenly thankful that she's worn a loose outfit that gives her plenty of room to move... and she boldly steps forward with a hand raised to volunteer as tribute. Little does she know, this is far worse than what she believes it to be. "We have our first challenger! What is your name, Miss?" All eyes are on her, now. And she swallows nearly audibly before speaking. "Say'ri, of Chon'sin." "Well nice to meet you, Say'ri! Come on, come on, there's no time to waste. Give that wheel a big ol' spin!"
His hands are at her shoulders in the blink of an eye, shuffling her towards the oversized prize wheel with various labels on it. She barely gets a chance to reach out before he's nudging her harder, and she nearly stumbles-- her hand barely catches the wheel before spinning it, feeling as if maybe she's just signed her soul to a devil.
Say'ri spins the wheel! Roll 1d5: Left Leg.
Easy enough. With a flourish of his hand, the event host directs her to the mat stretched out before bowing, allowing her to take the metaphorical stage. Her left foot easily makes contact with one of the red circles, and she lies in wait for her next challenger to appear. @soulsaligned, @old-scalebag, @dottingoldersister, @nohrianoutlaw, @fujins-favored

i know everyone likes to put tharja in the "yandere goth girl" category but tbh i feel like pigeonholing her into one specific archetype does a huge disservice to her character. is she obsessed with curses and robin? yes. is she constantly shoved into a fanservice role by intsys? absolutely.
but i think a lot of people forget just how impactful a lot of her supports are...there's something about tharja that makes nearly everyone who interacts with her divulge their deepest secrets and points of anxiety with her. we see this with libra, who tells her of the abandonment he endured at the hands of his parents. we see it with nowi, whose cheerful demeanor slips off as she tells tharja of her missing parents. and although tharja is not the only one lon'qu confides in regarding ke'ri, their support is notably the only one in which lon'qu divulges that there was romantic involvement between he and his childhood friend.
and despite her antisocial exterior, she always listens mindfully and offers to help! she even goes out of her way to discreetly help the shepherds (getting virion to do odd jobs that benefit civilians, interrogating henry to make sure he bears no ill will towards ylisse, etc).
a big thing about tharja is that she IS kind. she IS considerate. she just also has a reputation to uphold as a dark mage and that (paired with her overall awkwardness ofc) makes her true nature hard to see at first glance

i love that some parts of fire emblem are like "hey remember that time Frederick put a commissioned propaganda piece of prince Chrom naked around the Shepherds army camp? that's so silly" and others are like "hey remember when Sigurd got incinerated alive in the home of his murdered friend while his wife and the mother of his child watched and had no memory of him" like isn't that so. ._.

Despite how easy it would be to take his words as a slight, Nel merely hums in response as ruby eyes flicker across his features. It's true that he could have chosen to act instead of speak, a blade brandished in her direction on a moment's notice-- and there is kindness in refraining to do so. Perhaps at another point in time, Nel would view that kindness as naivete and stupidity, but one can never have enough allies in a foreign land. A sentiment that this Chrom seems to understand well enough. She would, however, be certain not to bare her back to him. Not until he had proven himself time and time again, as it would be too easy to prey on the downfall of a Fell Dragon. Nel has always had confidence in her own ability, though, and she knows how easy it is to tear a man's spine in twain. She's done it before, after all. "There are... quite a few instructors. I do not know them all by name; however, my brother is one of them as well." Nel brings a hand to her chin as she thinks, listing off names in her mind; there's several that she hasn't had a chance to speak to yet. "He specializes in axes. There is Professor Yunaka, who is adept with daggers... Queen Ivy, proficient with magic. There are plenty more, many of which are just as talented as they are-- but these are who I know best." "My point is that there are plenty. I assure you, I am not the only one for the lance."

i deleted my earlier whining about it from several days ago because frankly that was not my best post ever but the point is it doesn't make sense to me to say you like sumia and then disregard her story cutscenes, particularly chapters 2 and 3, because... that's her character arc. yes, the potential romance with chrom is incorporated into it, but those events are so important to her finding her footing (pun intended) in the shepherds and starting to gain confidence in herself, and it's also an example of why the shepherds follow chrom in the first place - he's a supportive and encouraging leader who tries to bring out everyone's strengths. dismissing it completely as the game just trying to push a romance on you is doing a huge disservice to both of them

I never understood why Sully let Virion tag along instead of just telling him to get lost, and more importantly, why Chrom let him hang around without questioning where he comes from.

The rat orchestra from last year’s Ethereal ball is apparently back and looking for work again. That’s the only explanation you can think of, anyway, when you start hearing rumors about rodents gathering in some out-of-the-way alley in town to play music on instruments stolen from the monastery. At the same time, a second rumor has started up: students have reported hearing a long C-sharp before going to bed at night, only to discover the next morning that one of their classmates has gone missing! That’s three in the span of a week so far. Are these things related? The Knights won’t get involved and the monastery staff appears unbothered, so you decide to take these matters into your own hands. [Grants Sword +1]
Kurthnaga didn't know much about music, and certainly didn't know anything about what a "sea-sharp" was, but people were going missing! It didn't matter that he didn't know because his fellow students were what was important here!
(Kurthnaga also has heard rumors of rats forming an orchestra, or something like that. Apparently they were at last year's ball? He feels like he is able to vaguely recall such a thing, but the memory is blurry around the edges. As if it was part of a dream and hadn't even happened at all.)
The sad thing was: the monastery didn't seem to care about the missing students. They were slipping away from right under their noses and all a staff member Kurthnaga had asked had to say was I'm sure they'll be back. Don't worry, boy.
Putting aside the fact that he was most certainly older than that man, such a statement was incredibly worrying coming from someone who should be caring for the safety of the students above all else.
Kurthnaga was simply going to take it into his own hands then. But it would be dangerous to go alone, wouldn't it? (See Nasir! He was learning how to not throw himself directly into danger :D!)
Spotting a student he recognized, he runs over to the man with familiar blue hair, a polite smile across his face, "Chrom!" He shouts out, tapping the other boy's shoulder, "Have you heard the rumors about the missing students? Quite disheartening; isn't it? Would you care to investigate with me?"
