uhm uhm uhm. since a lot of people hc that siffrin got their name from a play they really like, so, in my system hc. consider. consider. siffrin is a fictive of a character from a play

i feel bad for making modern au siffrin et al's life soo shitty and traumatic but like. looks at canon,

#1 mal defender it is just a little creature!!! (personally and this goes heavy into headcanon territory, i dont think mal is evil or malicious. a menace, sure! unkind, yeah. but also, sharp edges keep you safe, and sometimes those sharp edges can hurt you, but i dont think mal had any ill-intent necessarily. it probably felt like there was no other choice than to give up - that, or be stuck for eternity in a rerun of the same play over and over, losing your mind and sense of self. it was the part of siffrin who was giving up (siffrin) and the part of them backed into a corner ready to tear apart the wish that trapped them there (mal). mal forced siffrin to confront their wish and the fear that brought it upon them - either believe your thoughts about them and the future, or face it in the real world with the real voices of these people. mal is a self-defense mechanism - self-defense mechanisms can backfire. not everything can work perfectly. a scared stray backed into a corner at the vet, biting and scratching the peoole trying to help it, doesnt know its making its own life harder. and, well, siffrin is compared to a skittish animal in the game once already!! although this is all mostly my pluralfrin/sysfrin headcanon stuff (as a system i love them) so it doesnt necessarily exactly apply to Physical Manifestation MDP takes. anyways sorry for the ramble ty for humoring me 🫶 i just love mal du pays)

(also ty for using mal du pays’ correct pronouns as used in the game, as an it/its user i appreciate it!! i see a lotta they/them mdp even tho i dont think its ever referred to w anything other than it. so thank you!)

This is such a late answer but you are so real for this actually? You have opened my eyes to some interpretations of Mal I hadn’t even considered before??

I was thinking more about you talking about Siffrin being a fictive, and was thinking of reasons Mal du Pays would go see a play. Maybe it was trying to get some food and noticed a flier advertising there would be snacks provided at a performance. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I needed to get the thought out.

Hiiii I love your mal du pays thought. Yea I know I’m supposed to be sleeping but the sickness woke me,,, ANYWAYS do you think maybe it were first created in the headspace as a way for Siffrin to cope with being alone? Do you think that maybe Siffrin was able to be with it in their dreams and maybe doesn’t even really remember because Siffrin blocks so many things out and it only comes to Siffrin in their weakest moments when they NEED it. Siffrin as a child was lost and alone and scared and needed a friend and the only person he knew was himself so, because yeah. I never saw mal du pays as an exact extension of his sadness but more like. A reflection of all their lost memories and a reflection of his weakest moments. I think Mal is there as a protector. To keep them safe from themselves and THATS why it appears during the kings fight. “You’ve been doing this long enough, let me talk some sense into you” type thing but. The sense maybe wasn’t exactly what needed to be heard. Yknow? Does this make sense? I’m still eepy but <3 wanted to quickly say this 2 u before I forgor. (Ps yea I knew there was a limit 🥰 dummy)

ITS FUNNY U SAY THIS BC. AFTER I POSTED THAT I STARTEF THINKING. i like as well the idea that mal came first? i dont know at what exact point sif wouldve split, possiblyyyyy late teens? makes sense to me… would be neat

in that way i think i could see it working opposite to the way u put it. siffrin offering company to mdp instead! aaand years go by mdp fronts a lot less etc etc. stealing things from the very quick notes app i created el oh el

i personally am interpreting the mdp scene in game as more of a… freakout on mals part. big ol panic attack you get the idea, which came about through these. twisted thoughts about their family. for funsies ofc. since i already established my belief of mal as much Younger more prone to getting afraid like this. sorry im also tired so words arent working with me very well atm. but yes i do think ur idea is p interesting too :0

i think the idea of sysfrin splitting the party (or some of them) IS A REALLY COOL AVENUE TO EXPLORE.

its not something ive thought about in detail yet. aand considering i have only siffrin and mal actually thought out- im leaning more towards the idea that sysfrin doesnt split very often. BUT yes. esp under the stress of the quest i can imagine maybe….. perhaps one or two :0

one idea i did consider was having then split someone off of loop after the events of the game. i like the idea that they dont really want to accept the name ‘loop’ for themself either, but struggle to find anything else that fits for a while

(imo everyone in the. sysfrin. system. has some complicated feelings about Names,, mal didnt pick a name until during the loops el oh el. siffrin was fine tho mostly)

!!!! its funny bc these thoughts are very very similar to some of my own ive had for mal!

esp the bit about it fronting when younger. i like the idea rhat siffrin didnt split until much later, and when he did he sorta. took over very quickly. so for a majority of its childhood up untillll late teens? mal fronted. usually very blurry though.

hi hi good day ^_^ thank you for answering our last ask, by neurodivergent hcs we meant like if they have any particular traits / stims / special interests, or if like you hc them as autistic or adhd or something, but but you mentioned system siffrin?? we haven't looked much around this fandom so we dunno if it's a common take or not but our entire experience of isat was as siffrin being a system, we started thinking about it really early on and the later acts just solidified it completely!! so we're really happy to hear someone else has taught about it, did you post about your idea somewhere?? we'd love to hear your thoughts, haha, thanks again !! ^_^
