Summary: You meet Steve and Bucky on a Tuesday. Steve ignores the soulmate pull, Bucky can't. There's something about you that neither can shake, even when you're wearing one of Clint's t-shirts and your unicorn slippers. After weeks of slipping into your bed Bucky decides he can't hold back anymore. He's telling you after the mission, whether Steve is all in or not. When you don't come back from the mission, they are both ready to burn the world down and the team have the matches to help. But is everything as it seems and have they been betrayed by someone on the inside.

Chapter Summary: The team have to admit they need help, as readers torment truly starts.

Chapter Warning: Mentions of torture, water boarding, bringing a prisoner and held against will.

The team still didn’t leave and instead went over everything again and searched for a twenty mile radius.

When Tony had originally arrived onsite and had blasted the sliding floor, they had found a track, similar to an old rail road. It stopped at a door and Tony had blasted that too, only to find a loading dock but no tracks. So they checked it again, as well as the surrounding areas. Retaking every step for a hundredth time.

A whoosh of a jet set them on edge. Weapons were drawn and just as Tony and Rhodey were about to take to the sky, Sam’s voice stopped them.

“It’s the Wakandans.”

Steve and Bucky snapped their heads in Sam’s direction and glared.

“Glare at me all you want but we’re exhausted and we need help. We all know how good at tracking people they are.”

Steve shook his head in disappointment, at what Sam had done but also at himself. Sam was right they were the best trackers and as much as he didn’t want to admit it they needed help. He’d let everyone down and worse of all he’d let you down.

The jet landed near to their own. The ramp was barely lowered when T’Challa, Shuri, Nakia, Okoye and Ayo walked off. They were followed by four other of the Dora Milaje. Two of them kept their eyes fixed on their king as the other two took in the surroundings, looking at the ground and the trees.

“I wish it was in better circumstances that we were to all see each other again.” T’Challa said reaching for Steve’s hand. Steve shook it, going to step back T’Challa gripped his shoulder. “We will find her, and we will find her together.”

T’Challa turned to Bucky, who put out his hand. T’Challa pushed it away and pulled him into a hug. He said something to him in Wakandan that the others didn’t understand, Bucky nodded as they parted as he tearfully rubbed at his face.

“James, show Shuri and Ayo where they took her from.”

Bucky turned and led them into the base, as two of the Dora Milaje followed. When he returned thirty minutes later with Shuri, his face was blotchy from crying. He found the others scattered around eating Wakandan fruits. He was annoyed at first at their lack of action, until Nakia handed him one and he realised it was the type to boost your energy for hours on end.

“Do you have everything?” Nakia asked Shuri, glancing at the tablet in the princess’s hand. Bucky so caught up in himself hadn’t even realised she was holding it. Sam was right. They all needed a break. What if they had been a hostile with a gun?

“I just need her body cam.”

Bucky pulled it from his pocket, where he’d kept it since he’d found it near the loading dock.

“It’s on Stark’s server too.”

Vision approached them and went to speak, but was stopped abruptly by raised voices. Steve was arguing with Sam and then T’Challa. Bucky went towards them just as Steve looked like he was about to hurt someone. Sam now stood with his hands on his hips, looking at the ground. Nakia placed herself between T’Challa and Steve. T’Challa remained calm and tried to give words of advice but Steve rebuffed them loudly. It was Nakia that finally silenced him.

“But I do know Captain, as many of your friends know too, we know the pain of what it is to lose someone that you love, to have them taken from you but we are lucky. They find their way back or we find them.” She told him.

Steve’s shoulders sank.

“We owe Y/N a debt and it’s time we repay her. Let us help you. Nakia, Ayo and the Dora Milaje will stay and check the tracks. The rest of us will return with you to your compound, look at all the leads, and if there aren’t any leads yet, we shall find them.” T’Challa assured him.

“Steve, he’s right.” Bucky told him.

“I know.” He whispered back.

A sniffle came from Natasha.

“We can’t leave her.” She said into Clint’s shoulder.

“You are not leaving her Natasha.” Nakia assured. “We are here.”

A few minutes passed but nobody moved, not wanting the first to admit defeat. Bucky’s eyes met Wanda’s.

“We find her together.” She said softly.

“And then we shall deal with whoever took our printsessa.” Pietro added firmly.

Bucky nodded and walked up the ramp and into the jet. Two by two, the others followed. It reminded him of a story you’d told him about looking for Noah’s Arc and a joint mission with S.H.I.E.L.D and the Vatican. He still didn’t know whether you were teasing him or if it was true.

“I’ll find you babydoll, I promise.” He whispered to himself, and I’ll burn the world down to do it.

Meanwhile……

You braced yourself as another bucket of ice cold water was thrown over you.

“She’s stronger than she looks.” The accent was thick. You’d guess male and Sokovian. Maybe he’s a Zemo fan, you thought.

“Bring me another.”

Still bound and your eyes and mouth taped, you listened carefully, hearing the bucket be passed to someone who’d been silent so far.

“I’m not your fucking assistant.”

That voice you were sure you recognised. Male. American. East coast. You heard footsteps as whoever it was turned and left. You also knew that this time he’d left the door open to the room you were held in.

You were trying to place the voice to the owner when you felt movement near you. The sound of the original Sokovian voice was now near your left ear. The movement of the jacket your captor was wearing had alerted you to when he’d throw the bucket of water over you, allowing you to brace for it each time. It also let you know he was about to touch you and it rustled and creaked as he gripped your jaw hard.

“I’m going to take this tape off and this time you’re going to tell us something that isn’t your name and number.”

He pulled the tape hard and you barely flinched.

“Hmmmm, you really are stronger than you look. Now, I want a list of the Avengers safe houses, and don’t forget Stark’s undeclared properties too.”

You remained silent.

“Speak!” The captor yelled.

“Agent Y/L/N. Avengers Agent 5.”

The footsteps neared again and you could tell it was the same agent as before. His footsteps now also sounding familiar. You heard the bucket be exchanged, followed by the Sokovian voice.

“Tilt the chair. If she won’t talk it’s time for a little water boarding.” He gripped your jaw again. “Last chance Agent, start talking.”

“Agent Y/L/N. Avengers Agent 5.”

You braced yourself anticipating the chair you were on was about to be tipped back. Right before it was you felt a breath near your ear and the familiar voice from before whispered harshly. 

“Not talking everyone around now are you?”

You got a whiff of cologne and the chair was tipped backwards and the water began to be poured over your mouth and nose. You held your breath and tried not to gasp for air. Pushing your thoughts to try and piece together whatever you could from what was happening. The concussion was definitely slowing you down so you pushed yourself more to concentrate.

The waters fresh so they have running water. It’s cold too so it’s possible coming from a tap connected to an outside source. And then there’s the waste. That might be connected to a sewer. The chair is creaking and you might be able to break it. Two captors currently and the door is now being left open. One Sokovian. One American. They know enough to know to tie you up to an extreme fashion, and they know you have what your granny used to call the gift of the gab. The American is left footed and there’s a small weakness to his right leg.

Just as the pour seemed to quicken your brain snapped together.

Male. American. East Coast accent. Cologne. CK One, like he’s a teenage boy. Left footed. Weaker right leg. Weaker from injury. Maybe shrapnel. Shrapnel. Triskelion.

Agent 17.

The agent who had caused all the problems with the French, and many others before, was now tipping back the chair you were tied too, whilst you were being water boarded.

This was an inside job.

What's some stuff you're really hoping to see in Jedi 3 (either narratively or gameplay wise)?

Oh I'm so glad you asked this 🙌 Because I have THOUGHTS.

Gonna put everything under the cut so this doesn't clog up the feed with a wall of text (whoops.) Some of these ideas I hope to create concept art for, after I replace/fix my very cranky thirteen-year-old tablet. Anyway let’s start with gameplay!

Gameplay!

Maintaining Cal's abilities: Survivor handled this beautifully by keeping many of the skills learned in Fallen Order, instead of undoing Cal's growth from the first game. I think it'll be trickier to keep this momentum into Jedi 3 (the skill tree has gotten so large!) but story reasons could push Cal towards new types of abilities instead of bloating the current options.

More synergy between the lightsaber stances: I like all the stances in Survivor and it'd be A) disappointing to lose any of them, but B) overwhelming to add MORE combat styles. Being able to flow between the stances more fluidly would be fun though, with specific combos unlocked depending on which two are active together. Now if Merrin lets Cal borrow her knife-staff and he puts his lightsaber on the end... MAGICK SABER PIKE GO.

New or adapted movement mechanics: Maybe the ascension cable is replaced with a force ability (Force Ascend or Force Leap for an extra vertical boost?) or is "upgraded" to connect between two anchors, letting Cal create his own temporary ziplines.

Replayable missions: This could be explained in-game with a Force Tear or Cal's own interactive echoes. But I'd love the option to experience story missions and boss fights again post-game.

Customization!

This is a bonus section because Merrin should get new outfits. Haven't decided how to make it part of gameplay yet, stay tuned.

Cal's cosmetics in Survivor are mostly cool, some just funny, but overall a huge improvement from Fallen Order (yes, even though we miss all the poncho designs). For Jedi 3 I'd love to see more story-centric cosmetics that tie into the communities and people Cal has met along his journey. A Legacy outfit (incorporating pieces from his three Jedi masters), an Anchorite-inspired outfit (with arm tattoos), a bounty hunter outfit (the prize after defeating the Brood), etc. Maybe a Bogling outfit? No not made from Boglings; it looks like a Bogling. Hang on lemme fix my tablet—

Narrative + Gameplay!

Explore Tanalorr: Right now this sparkly, strong-in-the-Force, temple-carved planet is a huge mystery box for Jedi 3. There's a few directions it could go - more High Republic history, another civilization (the Nihil? someone new?) lurking in the shadows, or Force-related secrets hiding below the surface. Each Jedi game has followed Cal's exploration of an ancient culture, and I think Tanalorr can be a focal point in that journey.

Defeat Sorc Tormo and the Haxion Brood: I mentioned this in an ask earlier this week, but I so want a resolution to this fight against the Brood. Especially since roaming bounty hunters would threaten the Hidden Path. Maybe Cal breaks back into Ordo Eris, or hunts down Sorc Tormo on another planet. Maybe there's a Force-only stealth section?? Maybe a big multi-wave boss fight? Maybe Caij is there??? (no she doesn't get an invite to Tanalorr)

Dark Side Force Slow: The fact that Cal's Force Slow ability kept its red-stained aura, even in the Survivor post-game, is great. I love lasting consequences and ludonarrative harmony, yes yes yes. Really hope this isn't fully resolved by the start of Jedi 3 (potential timeskip makes it tricky but whatever) and the ability receives some sort of healing through Cal finding his way out of the darkness.

Narrative!

Timeskip?: I vote no, but I think Jedi 3 will vote yes, likely to age up Kata and allow Tanalorr to be more developed. But that also means Cal and the Mantis Crew goes through character development without us (boo) or remains emotionally stunted until we get there (also boo?). I'm more comfortable with the five year gap between FO and Survivor than I used to be though, despite "missing out" on big character moments, so maybe it'll be okay. Maybe. 👀

The Hidden Path builds a home on Tanalorr: This works until it doesn't, whether from outside pressure or the threat of a spy within. I don't think Bode's fears should necessarily be validated, but I do think the risk will keep Cal on edge and hurt his ability to trust (both others and himself.) It'll drive decisions that strain his relationships and be a source of conflict for part of the game.

The Mantis gets semi-retired and then reinstated: I just love the mental picture of the Mantis parked somewhere cozy and decorated with cloth and lights and a hideout for Kata. It's become too small and high profile to use for gathering the Path, but when the plot gets going, they're gonna need her back in action.

Three main antagonists: The Empire, an unrelated third-party with their own goals (Nihil or someone else), and Cal's own demons. The first two drive the external conflict, the third drives Cal's inner conflict and the story's themes. More on that at the end.

A memorial garden: It's designed by Pili and filled with native Tanalorrian plants and trees, from which the Anchorites hang cords and windchimes and bits of colored glass. Cere's saber was buried beneath the largest tree. Cal plays her hallikset here when he's too troubled to meditate. If we want to be mean, this place gets damaged during a battle in Act 3. If we want to be less mean, this is the place that doesn't get damaged during a battle.

Kata has some sort of student-teacher relationship with Cal: I'm torn on her being Force sensitive: this is a story about Jedi and "guide her through the darkness" is pretty telling given Cal's own darkness at the end of Survivor. But Cal helping Kata (and Kata helping Cal) can happen regardless of her Force sensitivity - it would just look different. This is a soft answer because I'm still exploring ideas around it BUT admittedly the angst levels would be higher if she is sensitive.

A battle against the shadow self: Look this one is cliche. I don't care. I want a huge cavern in the depths of Tanalorr where Cal gets to fight a dark version of himself that switches between all his former enemies. If we're making a video game here let's physically beat up our darkness. Let's have it not work. Let's bring Cal to rock bottom to remind him that he is more than his darkness and he doesn't have to do this alone. Let's go back to that same fight later and then we finally win.

There's more to explore story-wise and I will eventually, but I'm overall not concerned about Jedi 3's narrative. Respawn has been very intentional with their writing of Cal Kestis and the Jedi series so far (despite some last minute changes to Survivor) and I love this character and this story because of all the great work they've created. I really hope they finish this journey the way they want to. That being said—

How should Jedi 3 end? Should Cal die?

No: I'll argue Cal dying at the end of the trilogy completely undermines the entire lesson of Survivor.

Cal wouldn't stop fighting the Empire: The Cal we meet at the beginning of Survivor definitely wouldn't. That Cal also watched countless friends die to that same fight and saw two different Jedi fall to their passions-turned-obsessions that led them to the dark side. He may wrestle with remnant obligation or a bitter apathy, but he's definitely not as single-minded as he was before.

Cal would sacrifice himself to save the Path: Yeah, he probably would. Cere did exactly that during the Siege of Jedha when all else failed. But maybe the Path could be protected without Cal needing to be a Weapon - a lesson Cere also wanted him to learn.

Another way: I think the Koboh abyss (that separates Tanalorr from the rest of the galaxy) could be destroyed. I don't know if Cal would choose to destroy it, but I think the Empire would: if they can't reach Tanalorr it's the next best thing.

Now Cal has to make a choice: Leave (continuing the fight alone) or Stay (shepherding the Path for an unknown future.) It doesn't mean they never find a way back to the known galaxy, but it'll take time. Enough time for a New Hope to appear.

Whatever your opinion of the Sequel Trilogy, the line: "That’s how we’re gonna win. Not fighting what we hate. Saving what we love." is not only a complete thesis of Star Wars, but fits really well with Cal's journey. He's become very good at fighting. He wants to save everyone in Fallen Order, and he can't. He still wants to save everyone in Survivor, and they refuse him. His Fight has made a difference (again, Cere says as much) but it's clear this can't be Cal's final answer.

Choosing to protect the Path, choosing to trust the Force, choosing a home. That's what he's been fighting for. I love Cal Kestis because he isn't the chosen one and he isn't going to save the galaxy. But for his family and his community, he saved their galaxy. It's cheesy but I don't care, and you know Greez and BD would agree with me.

Okay this got so, so much longer than I expected. Bonus points if you made it all the way down here haha. I've had a weird assortment of concepts and ideas over the past year but never wrote them down in one place - until now. I've said it before but part of my hyperfixation with the Jedi series is because it isn't finished yet and Survivor ends on such a gut-wrenching cliffhanger. Whatever happens to this series, I'm slowly finding some sort of catharsis through all the edits and photomode shots and half-baked concepts. Thanks for tagging along ✌️

“Are you still there, Idia?”

Idia toggled on the private chat between him and Yuu. “I told you I’m Gloomurai when we’re playing in squads.”

The crackle of a huff made his eardrums beg for mercy. “We’re the only ones in the call.”

Idia rolled his eyes. His fingers flitted across his keyboard from sheer muscle memory. “Doesn’t matter. Your butter fingers toggle on the in-game chat all the time.”

Another huff made Idia move one ear muff from his ear. “I did that once, and it just made a bunch of kids scream about a girl being in the lobby. Are you readying up or are you calling it a night?”

Idia scoffed and queued up the next match. The other three players in the lobby were having their own separate conversation in the chat, but Idia barely glanced at the messages. They were a group of nobodies. He would have preferred to have Muscle Red in the lobby with them, but his online friend had been too busy for a last-minute game session. 

Honestly, Idia had been preparing for bed himself when his tablet dinged with a notification. He had booted up his computer and joined Yuu for some late night dungeon grinding. Idia had expected Yuu to call it around midnight, but she had suggested a more fast-paced game instead. Almost like she was looking for something to keep her awake longer.

Idia didn’t have the courage to ask personal questions, so he grabbed a can of his favorite energy drink instead.

Idia stared at the wait time for the next match. “If the guy wearing the toga splits off from us, I’m not rushing across the map to revive him again.”

Yuu made a noise that Idia assumed agreed with him. Her username–LadyKnight–popped up in the chat with the simple order, Follow Gloomurai. The other three immediately spammed the chat with insults and lewd suggestions as creative as the pseudo-clan names in their gamer tags. Idia rolled his eyes. “Tell me you’re ten without telling me you’re ten.”

“Were you telling other players to kiss your ass in chat when you were ten?”

Idia’s grin reflected back at him when his screen went black to transition into the game. “I was saying stuff that’d make you blush IRL.”

“Like your cooties are bigger than my cooties?”

Idia snickered. The game loaded them into a proper match, and Idia searched the nearest chest for a better weapon. “Something like that, yeah.”

“How very ten-nish of you.”

“I never claimed to be a saint.” Idia’s snickering stopped when he noticed their teammates’ gamer tags growing smaller. He sighed. “They’re running to the tower. Again.”

“Why do they keep doing that? They get sniped every time.”

“Because one of them read a forum post saying better weapons spawned there.” Idia toggled through his inventory and activated the item he found to temporarily boost his stats. His sigh was short and harsh when a small skull appeared by a teammate’s name. “Aaaand they’re down. GG.”

Idia watched Yuu’s player model stutter. The second teammate went down. Yuu mumbled under her breath, her mic barely picking up her grumbles. Idia equipped a sniper rifle and used the scope to watch their last teammate fall just outside the tower.

A squeal of feedback made Idia wince. Yuu’s voice echoed through the in-game chat and the app they used privately. “Are you fucking kidding me? Stop running to the towers! You scrubs keep dying. Get off your damn forums and play the game!”

Idia silently gaped at the screen. Did…did Ramshackle’s prefect just drop an f-bomb? He heard that type of language in public lobbies all the time, but not from the prefect. Yuu was too…pure wasn’t the right word. Polite? Fuck, he had corrupted her by introducing her to public lobbies.

Their ten-year old teammate’s brilliant response was, “Are you a girl?! Girls can’t play games!”

“That’s not what your mom said when I slapped her ass.”

Idia’s surprised laugh morphed into a coughing fit. He didn’t care that his moment of distraction led to an opposing player knifing him in the back. Yuu continued cursing and insulting the boy, whose voice steadily pitched higher and higher with emotion, while trying to dodge attacks from the opposing team. Her efforts were futile, and they eventually loaded back into the lobby. Idia quickly kicked and blocked the randos before the kid with the mic could blow-out his eardrums.

He collapsed back into his chair and stared wide-eyed at the screen. Yuu became eerily silent save for the random clicks of her keyboard. Idia stuttered. “U-uh…do you wanna talk about that?”

Yuu hummed. “Talk about what?”

“The…uh…” Idia rubbed the bottom of his jaw. “You just told a kid his dad wasn’t coming back with milk anytime soon.”

Yuu’s keyboard taps paused. “Was that going too far? I thought that’s just what other gamers said to blow steam.”

It took an embarrassingly long moment for Idia to process what she said. “You think gamers…just talk like that?”

“That’s what most of the lobbies we go into sound like,” Yuu said. “I get why you guys yell so much now. It’s a bit cathartic. I really got into that.”

Idia hesitated. “Do I sound like that?”

“When you get really excited, yeah.” Little heart emojis appeared in the chat. “I think I’m going to call it a night. I thought I’d be too wound up to sleep, but that really helped me vent the tension keeping me up. Maybe we can do another session tomorrow. Night!”

Idia was still too stunned to process what she said. By the time he could utter another word, Yuu had already disconnected from the game and their private chat. Idia stared at his screen for another full minute before closing out the game.

He wasn’t telling anyone he stayed awake for another hour worrying about every housewarden on campus coming after him for “corrupting” the prefect.

Where the hell is she?

Everly typically woke up before him, but she never strayed far from their shared room on the bus. This morning, he couldn’t find her working on schematics on her tablet, or tinkering with the various tech she’d scavenged, or overriding the vehicle’s AI to cuss him out.

“Ev?” Micah called.

As he stepped out of the room and into the narrow hallway, a chill snaked around him. The exterior door panel was wide open, and Everly was still nowhere in sight. He ducked back into his room and snatched the first pair of shoes within reach. He wasn’t sure what could have possessed her to leave the bus on her own so early in the morning—if she left by choice.

Premature anger bristled at the back of his mind. Crew members had bullied her into working off the clock before, but no one ever dared to drag her out of bed.

As he stepped off the bus, though, he didn’t have to look hard to find her.

Everly stood a few yards away with her back to him. Snow fell lightly onto the asphalt and stuck to the ground. She wore only a t-shirt and jeans, shivering like crazy but rooted to her spot.

“There you are,” he said, all the breath leaving his lungs at once. “What are you doing? You’re gonna freeze out here!”

Everly turned and looked up at him. Her eyes were wide—and for a second, he thought he was scaring her. But a breathless grin lit up her face. Every smile he’d ever gotten from her was hard-fought. Her sheer, unprompted happiness made him wonder if she was tripping on something.

“Uh…” He cleared his throat. “Don’t get mad, but you’re freaking me out.”

“It’s beautiful. Look at it.” Everly’s wistful sigh puffed past her lips like a cloud. She stuck her hand out and caught a few snowflakes, bringing her palm close to her face to examine them. 

Then it hit him.

She’d lived all her life in southern California. 

“You’ve never seen snow?” Micah dropped to one knee beside her, cocking his head to continue soaking in the unbridled joy on her face.

She shook her head. “Not the real stuff, anyway. A couple years ago, they dropped synthetic snow on the slums around Christmastime to boost morale or something. It was depressing as fuck. But this…” She cupped her hands, grinning as snowflakes gathered in her palms. “It’s not as cold as I thought it’d be.”

Micah laughed, reaching down with both hands to scoop her up. “That’s just the childlike-wonder talking.” His smile wilted when his skin brushed against her. “You’re so cold, Ev.” He swiftly brought her against his chest, eliciting a squeak of surprise.

“Relax, I’m fine!” She squirmed for a moment, but sure enough, she leaned into his warmth. “Okay, maybe…” She rested her forehead against his shirt. “Maybe it’s a little cold.”

He chuckled. “Let’s get you into some warmer clothes.”

“I… I don’t have any.”

Micah made a wounded noise. “I thought you said you looked through all the clothes I got you. Liar.”

“I-I mean… Looking through all of it would’ve taken me days.” She tugged at his shirt, and he peeked down at her. While she was definitely cuddling up against him for warmth, there was a certain sweetness to the way she rubbed her cheek against his chest. “But that means you can surprise me with an outfit. Won’t that be fun?”

Hugging her closer, he could already feel the chill vacate her little body as he stepped back inside. “Babe, we’re going through all your winter clothes. By the time we’re done, there’ll be enough snow on the ground to have some real fun. Wanna bet I can nail Xan with a snowball?”

“Only if I can also bet that he’ll murder you in your sleep.”

You were lounging on Dave's bed, waiting for him to finish fetching his charge back, a strong grunt with powers unmatched by any. They were highly favoured by all in the building, and your boyfriend shared in that admiration.

Killing time by playing games on your tablet, awaiting your man to ambush him with the news. You'd missed a cycle, and decided to take a test, which sat in the bathroom bin wrapped in toiler paper, cross marked. Positive.

It's not like you'd been actively trying for a child, but you weren't being careful either, let nature take her course and that course was parenthood. The door slid open, and your lover stepped in, beaming when he saw you. "Ello love,"

He removed his hat, placing it on the coat rack before strolling over and giving you a sweet kiss. "hope you 'aven't been too bored waiting for me, pigeon." His love of the sky invaded everything in his life, even his pet names for you, always something to do with birds.

"Hi Davey." You greeted back, nuzzling into his palm. "No, I've been playing GruntCraft. Built some silly things in creative mode. You wanna see?" He took off his jacket, revealing his sweaty t shirt, when he was out of the sky, his jacket cooked him.

"Sure thing, hen." He sat next to you, his hand massaging your back instinctively, his love language being physical touch. His fingertips sent pleasant shivers up your spine.

You shifted your character around and showed off some of the builds, getting a laugh as you showed off your giant wool sheep, with actual sheep inside it's hollow body. "Davey, there's something important I need to tell you."

"Your sheep building skills are baaahhdass. I already know." Dave grinned at you, his suave British charm making your heart flutter. You rolled your eyes and kissed his cheek, he was a goofball and you loved that about him.

"Its important, Dave." He lifted his arm, and you cuddled close into him, his familiar scent calming you down, yet exciting you too. "We're gonna have a baby."

Confusion crossed his features. "You what bird?" His brows knitted together. "That's a daft joke."

"It's not a joke honey. You can check in the bathroom bin, there's a test in there. You and me, we're having a baby." Dave's eyes lit up and he covered your face in kisses, his stubble scratching up your chin.

"We're pregnant? Really? Oh pidge we're gonna have a little aviator! Ach, we can paint their room to look like the sky, hang little planes up, and and-"

"Easy tiger," You laughed, music to his ears. Just when he thought he couldn't possibly fall deeper in love with you, you were going to carry his child. "we've got months to prepare. Besides, what if he or she prefers boat?"

Dave let out a dramatic gasp. "Then they're no child of mine!" He snorted and chuckled, unable to keep his fake shock up for a mere moment.

News quickly spread about your immanent baby, Dave gushing to everyone about his wonderful partner and their soon to be physical form of love for each other.

Bossman seemed to zone out when he talked, nodding along with the occasional "Mmmhmm."

Q-Bert rolled his eyes anytime the subject was brought up. "Are ye actually gonna buy somethin' or are ye jus' gon' waste my time again?"

Skinner was amused, letting him talk freely as much as his heart desired. "It's very rare that babies are even conceived in all of Nevada, let alone one right in this base. I'm sure they'll be a wonderful boost to morale."

None of the chefs gave him the time of day, he wasn't there for guns, so they had no interest.

Doc seemed sceptical to begin with, but would sometimes offer his own advice, having had a hand in Deimos' birth, and raising the little ankle biter. "Best advice I can really offer? Sleep when the baby sleeps. Don't try and sleep regularly, you'll be on baby time until they settle."

The mysterious grunt who seemed to build up the SQ didn't speak to anyone most of the time, would silently listen to Dave going on about anything and everything. "Hey listen, if uh, y'see anything sweet out there, like candy or chocolate, would you mind bringing some back? Pregnancy cravings are a bitch when you don't got much to work with." And faithfully, they'd always end up with something you'd enjoy.

Evenings and nights were blissful for the most part, a snack in hand while Dave talked about his day, interesting things he saw while flying, or a brief rundown of whatever the leader was up to that day. He was always massaging your feet which ached thanks to the added weight, or your tummy so he could hopefully coax a kick out of his little one.

"Does it hurt? When they kick." He perked up one night, hand over your active baby's writhing.

"No, but it's weird. Nice, but weird. At least we know they're healthy." You smiled, and Dave rested his head on your stomach.

"Aye, want nothing more than to have a healthy mite."

"What about yours?"

"Ey?" You poked Dave's gut.

"Your baby, does it kick?"

His cheeks turned red. "Oi! Cheeky bird! Don't insult my love handles. I'll have you know I worked very hard to get this dad bod for you."

Sleeping together was nice, you'd sleep on your side, a pillow between your legs, since it was most comfortable, and Dave would have an arm around your belly, spooning you from behind, keeping you safe in his grasp.

He'd cut back slightly on his drinking, slowly but surely becoming less indulgent on intoxicants to have a good time, enjoying just living in the moment with you, working towards the future.

Decorating the new nursery was a lot of effort too, he'd always work up a sweat painting, decorating, building baby essentials, it helped slim down his figure a little, but he was still plenty squishable and lovable.

He still had a job to do, indebted to the silent boss of the building, always flying them back and forth even if he wanted to hang around the closer your expectant day came. Alas, he was out flying when the action kicked off.

Bossman luckily had been passing by when you called out for help, and he rushed off to get Skinner, who easily picked you up and carried you to his office with care. You cried out for Dave, but he was absent, and Bossman was constantly pacing, calling him over the radio constantly.

"Don't worry, even if Dave isn't here, you're in safe hands." Skinner reassured you, wiping your forehead with a damp cloth.

"Why did he have to go out today?" You sobbed, this was scary, you had to face this alone, and he promised he'd be here for you. But he wasn't. "I hate him!"

Skinner nodded to his nurse, who took over caring for you while be busied himself at your other end. "You don't hate him, you're just upset he's not here." The nurse was kind, he was doing his best to soothe you. "I'm sure he's on his way as soon as possible."

Hours later, the door slid open, and Dave came running in. "PIGEON!" He yelled, running to your side. "I'm so sorry, boss wanted a lift to the otherside of Nevada and I-I I'm sorry!" He was crying, clearly upset about not being here the whole time.

"You're here now at least." You took Dave's hand. "You're here for the worst of it." He didn't leave your side, even as you crushed his hand. Eventually, you successfully delivered a baby girl, which Dave had insisted on naming Ava.

Q-Bert

You and Q-Bert weren't dating, more of a situationship. Both had urges, and could help each other out, and that worked fine. Until it didn't.

He was at his usual post, chewing tobacco behind his shop, legs crossed and propped on his desk, arms folded behind his head. You stepped up to his space, and he lifted his head, shadows cast over his eyes.

"Alright lovely?" Bert greeted you with a grin, his brown stained teeth coated in fresh poison. His accent was intoxicating, everything about him was. From a foreign land, with a strange voice and weird customs, like .... Haggis.

"Hope you've brought your wallet, 'coz I ain't able to scratch yer itches right now, as nice as the break would be. Mmmhh, actually, scratch that. Maybe if yer wantin' somethin' quick."

"Not right now, Bert. There's uh, a slight issue with our... thing." You felt flustered, even when he was being a perverted bastard, it was still charming. Bert spat his chew into the bin to his left and sighed.

"Yer callin' it off? Guess I should'a seen it comin'." His lip stuck out, he'd have to find someone else to bunk with now, which was gonna suck. But of course a pretty thing like you would move on and find someone willing to commit with them. He knew he couldn't, and he'd told you that. Commitment issues, never one to settle down.

"No, hear me out Bert." Rip off the bandaid. "I'm pregnant, and you're the father." That made him freeze up.

"Ye... yer sure about that?" You nodded to him, throwing your positive test onto his desk. "...'Ow do I know it's my wee bairn?"

He was starting to get under your skin. "You think I've been getting cosy with the other guys? Really? You think that I'm like that?"

Q-Bert got to his feet, raising his hands. "Nay 'course not. I just.. Shit.. Look I've had a few flames who pulled a stunt like this, they were lying just tae get tae me money."

"I don't give a fuck about the money!" You snapped at him. "I thought you knew that." Turning you back to him, you heaved out a sigh. "Look, I can do this myself if you don't want a part in it. Bossman, Skinner and Doc will be more than happy to help." As you began to head back to your room, arms wrapped around your middle.

"Nae, don' go. I'm sorry. A've been fucked over a lot in life, orite? Gettin' close to people ain't really been ma thing. But you, fuck, a've let a few of me walls down fer you. I canne promise you commitment, that's a big ask and I canne agree, but I'll do everything I can to keep you an' our wee bairn in good hands."

As previously stated, Bert isn't a good support system, unless you directly tell him what you need. He doesn't take hints well, but you can tell he's trying his best. "Ye look like ye could use a drink."

"I can't drink while pregnant, remember?"

"Oh.. right yeh." Bert would visit your quarters more often, bringing snacks he'd gotten in exchange for a few favours. His profits were biting a little, but a few bullets in exchange for your favourite candy was a worthy sacrifice. "Look, I got some of yer favourite crisps."

You graciously accepted his offerings, feeling like a dragon atop a snack hoard while your knight added to your pile.

Even when he was behind the desk, he'd have time for you. You could have the comfiest chair in his little room, or if he was laying back and lounging, you could cuddle into him, he'd rub your aching back and hips. Even as you got heavier, he didn't complain too much, just adjusting himself slightly to deal with the baby weight.

Sometimes he'd invite you back to his room to sleep next to him, missing the company. Despite saying he'd probably find someone else to share his time with, he didn't.

Other times you'd fall asleep alone in your bed, and wake up to his arms around you, his face buried into your back, hair, or shoulder. The distance between you and him made his heart ache, as much as he hated to admit it. He'd grown too fond of you, and he felt insecure, worried that something would ruin this piece of happiness he'd come to enjoy.

But... the pain never came.

With you, god with you he felt secure. He felt safe. And for the first time, in a long, long time, he felt genuinely happy. Of course you were different, you were carrying his baby for christ-sake. You'd sheltered and protected him, loved him like no other, and he finally opened his eyes to the fact.

One night you were laying in bed, and he entered, expecting you to be asleep as usual as he settled next to you. "Och..." His hand grazed your arm, softly and sweetly. "I love you so much." His stubble scratched your cheek as he kissed it.

"I love you too Bert." You mumbled tiredly, and he froze.

"Yer... awake?" You let out a noise of confirmation, and his face turned beet red, but it was thankfully masked by the darkness. "I.. dunno what tae say."

"Nothing, I'm tired and want to sleep, we can talk about it tomorrow, okay?" You carefully rolled over, facing him, seeing his expression soften in the dim light of the room.

"Alright love," He leaned in, kissing you tenderly, a hint of minty mouthwash on his lips.

It was another day in his office, lounging on him while he stroked your hair, chewing his tobacco and humming away when something ran down your legs. "Did ye just piss on me?" Q-Bert looked mortified. "If ye needed tae go ye shoulda said!"

"No, that's... You need to go get Skinner." The walk around the base would've been too much for your tired legs, so it was easier, and safer, to have the big doc carry you around.

Skinner suggested an epidural, which you decided to take. It hurt like hell to start with, but he swore it would make delivery easier for you. After hours and hours of body straining work, the G3 proudly announced. "It's a boy! And a chubby one too! Look at his fat little face!"

You looked at Bert, face sweaty and flush. "Magnum it is then." He'd asked you if you'd consider naming the child after a gun, which ... was weird but hey, why not.

Laying with a now settled newborn in your arms, Bert leaning over the bed to rub his cheek softly. "I'm gonna need tae get a beby holster."

Skinner

It started a few months ago, your favourite doctor snuggling you into the crook of his arm as you prepared to sleep, him absentmindedly scrolling down his social feed until something caught his interest.

"Hmm.. Seems an old friend of mine birthed a child recently." You were nearly in dreamland, his sudden voice waking you up slightly.

"Really? Interesting." You yawned, not out of disinterest, but pure exhaustion.

"What's even more intriguing is the fact she's a G3, like me. And her partner is just a normal grunt. It would seem my kind is capable of producing offspring after all. Curious." Sitting up slightly, you glanced at his screen, seeing a proud looking G3 with a baby in her arms, her partner equally as delighted with their little hybrid baby.

By all accounts, it was just like any other baby grunt, tiny enough in size, the only large feature from their mother they currently possessed were the thick, long eyelashes. "Drs. Eleanor Porter and Malicious Magnificent welcome their newest family member.. Proving once again life overcomes all in Eden.

Porter and I used to study together, both preferring to aid the hurt instead of shed blood like our other G3s. I'm glad she's doing well." Skinner's eyes lingered on the child, the beaming smiles on the tiny family's faces.

"Do.. you want a baby?" He looked at you, his smile carved permanently into his features. To some, G3s were Frankenstein monsters, to others their defining features made them more beautiful.

His massive hand cupped your cheek, eyes softening. "With you? Of course. I could think of nothing greater than being the one who gets to create a life with you."

"C'mere beautiful," You held his face in your hands too, giving him a loving kiss on his teeth. "you're gonna be the best dad."

Skinner set his tablet down, getting comfortable next to you. "We're going to have to closely monitor your heat cycles, picking out the best time to....Procreate." He was incredibly embarrassed about it, being posh and prudish was by default built into G3s.

A few months of trying and you could now share the happy news. "Hey smiles," You wandered into medbay, seeing him rummaging around in his new supplies.

"Hello dear!" He set the box down, coming over to greet you with a hug and a kiss, his usual greeting to you. "I got some new bits from our friends, something you might like!" 03/11/2024. Bonjour tout le monde, November has arrived and the week has seen the temperatures change and we have had misty mornings. I am in Bar-sur-Aube today 😁. The weather is 7c and could possibly hit 16c, the sun is shining so with any luck the nurse will arrive early and I can have my walk to the supermarket.

J’ai été très occupé this week (is that any change) consequently the jigsaw is not yet finished, I have been lazy with cooking meals and have spent time relaxing in the chair but let me explain why.

After the shock of finding out I had to go to Paris on Tuesday, my friend rang the hospital to find out why I had to go. Turned out it was for an MRI scan, no stay over just there and back. Monday morning I had bloods taken and dressing changed, in the afternoon the man from the laboratory rang to say my white blood cells and neutrophils were very low and to wear a mask when out to avoid any infection plus if I had a fever I was to go straight to hospital 😱. Anie called to see me bringing asters from her garden as well as apple crumble (which unfortunately I couldn’t eat) being neutropenic means I have to make everything myself so that another’s persons hands haven’t touched the food.

I was up at 04:45 on Tuesday as the taxi was due at 06:30, imagine my surprise when he turned up at 06:03 😤. Anyway, we arrived, I seemed to be “fast-tracked” through and before I knew it I was back in the car. Yes I was home by 1:30pm but I was still shattered I had been up just short of 9 hours at that point.

I realised I had three injections in the fridge which were what I needed to boost my white cells and neutrophils, so messaged the doctor in Troyes (while en route to Paris) for a prescription advising the nurse to administer the injections. .

My neighbour went to the pharmacy for my medication, I had only completely run out of one lot of tablets! Then I got a message from a friend who said she would come to see me around 18:00. My reply had confused her and so she didn’t visit. I had also asked Monique to make an appointment for Dr Stefan, at the practice in town, to come and visit me on 8 November. She did that so hopefully now I will also have a doctor in town again.

On 31 October I got a photo of my two grandchildren dressed up for Halloween. My granddaughter looks so grown up it’s just amazing.

Anie brought me apples on Monday and I still had the ones Monique had brought last week 😳 so on Friday I set to and peeled, cored, sliced, froze and stewed them. The freezer is almost full of bags of apples. Got to make something other than crumble though, think I will just have them stewed with yoghurt. It was a beautiful afternoon so I had my walk to the supermarket, not knowing what I wanted to eat I bought food to make a pasta dish.

My cleaner was ill so couldn’t come to do my housework. She also informed me that she is moving to Troyes on the 7 November. Now paperwork is an absolute nightmare here in France (mind you it’s worth it for me to live in this place I love) so I have had to have my head screwed on properly to deal with it. I am keeping my fingers crossed that everything is correct.

“The Photographer” has been busy at his day job but on Saturday he went to Burton upon Trent for the first round of the FA Cup. They were playing Scarborough AFC and he was there to take photos. I prayed for dry weather which it appeared they had. “The Seagulls” were doing really well until midway through the second half when their opponents scored. Unfortunately “The Seagulls” couldn’t even the score and it would be some disappointed fans who returned home. The thing to remember is that their opponents were in leagues above theirs so no shame in the score line, plus they played really well and as we know there can only be one winner. “The Photographer” took some great photos too.

It’s busy old days at work for “The Solicitor” and “The Recovery Coordinator” weeks are flying by so quickly. It is only two months since they were here but it feels such a long time ago. Niece and nephew went to their house on Friday evening, it was a late trick or treat, looks as if everyone had fun. Grandad had even bought outfits for the children to wear.

“The Jetsetter” with the clipped wings, at the moment, is most probably perusing holiday brochures (can you still get those) or is it all on-line now?

It seems to be that the world is not such a nice place. Countries that are against tourists, places where it’s unsafe to go out in the evening (according to the press) wars, floods, droughts good heavens it is probably better to stay home. Although being a bit of an adventurous traveller in my twenties, I understand the need to visit places. I once visited a country which at the time was “behind the Iron Curtain, and I don’t mean Yugoslavia. There were lots of things that were “scary” about it but it all adds to the memories. I laugh when I see adverts for holidays to countries being lauded as “new places to visit” when my holidays there were around 47 years ago!

A bit of a surprise with the music part of the blog this week, I have chosen two women and the songs are fairly recent (well they are to me). The first song is by Leona Lewis, it’s “Bleeding Love” from 2007 and the second is by Dido, it’s “Don’t Leave Home” from 2003.

I really must make some time to lay more cardboard. I don’t have sufficient bark to put a good covering on top but will see if my neighbour can get some more for me tomorrow. The weeds are creeping buttercup, they are coming through from my neighbours garden and they are so difficult to kill off. Some have even managed to come through the bark already (only small but it’s a start). Does anyone know how to kill off these “creepers” without killing the flowers in the borders too?

PS. I have finally out the last pieces of jigsaw into the puzzle. What satisfaction that has brought me.

Another thing that has brought a lot of satisfaction to me is the beautiful cactus I bought a year ago, it has lots of buds some due to open anytime soon. I am so pleased, it is a white cactus and I just left it to its own devices after my previous cleaner, dusted it and broke off all the new buds which were coming earlier this year! I was upset then but now I am just looking forward to the flowers opening.

It also appears that the beautiful orchid I received on the 12 September now has root rot (or similar). “Not my fault Guv, I know not to give it loads of water”.

So on that sad news, I will leave while I search Google for a solution.
