Im working on this Evo nightsilver fic on and off since 2019. I only really got into it while I was manic. So now I have to go back and deep edit so the characters are more themselves and not just pining idiots right off the bat. I pulled out my sketchbook and have written down the plot so I can see where things are clearly too rushed. I feel bad cuz theirs this one active reader who’s always in my comments (I love her she’s so nice) and now she’s gotta reread all my bullshit if she wants to be up to date. Cuz I’m making major plot shifts to push the actual story line, I’m trying to push myself threw the editing so I can focus on the part I want to work on, Lance, Toad, and Tabitha. So i wrote some small things to help me cope with being stuck editing

Here are some fun little drabbles from my fic:

Toad is 100% the Brotherhood’s biggest stoner and unofficial weed dealer, always carrying pre-rolled joints like it’s part of his daily essentials. He’s got a steady supply from some sketchy high school connections and will smoke just about anywhere, anytime. Lance, being the opportunist he is, bums one off him at least once a week—not because he doesn’t have his own stash, but because why waste his when Toad practically hands them out for free? It’s an unspoken agreement at this point. Toad never complains, and Lance never thanks him, but they both know the deal.

Toad and Lance have a standing tradition of getting their piercings done together, hitting up the same slightly sketchy shop run by some dude who definitely doesn’t check IDs too hard. Lance plays it cool like it’s no big deal, but Todd treats every new piercing like a badge of honor, hyping it up way more than necessary. Meanwhile, Tabitha? Absolutely not. She has standards. No way she’s letting some back-alley piercer with a questionable sterilization routine put a hole in her body. She’s got her own guy—professional, expensive, probably does celebrity clients on the side—and she never lets the boys forget it.

Lance is Peruvian, not that he really talks about it though. Family isn’t exactly an easy topic when you’ve spent more time in the foster system than with the people you came from. Most of his early memories are hazy, blurred at the edges, but one thing that’s always stuck with him is the sound of his mom playing Peruvian cumbia while she cleaned the kitchen. He doesn’t remember much else—what she looked like, the exact shade of her eyes—but he remembers that. The music, the warmth, the way the whole house smelled like lime and cilantro. Sometimes, late at night, when everything’s too quiet, he’ll pull up an old cumbia playlist and let it play low in the background. He misses her. He just… never says it out loud.

Before the amnesia, Kurt had this habit of picking out jewelry for Toad, always keeping an eye out for pieces that would suit him. Toad acted like he didn’t care, like he’d wear whatever just to humor him, but the truth was, he never took off the stuff Kurt picked—especially the little star-shaped septum ring. It was Kurt’s favorite, said it made Toads canines stand out when he grinned, which made Toad show his teeth more often, made him smile a little wider. He’d never admit it, but even now, with Kurt not knowing who he is, Toad still wears it hoping Kurt will remember why it’s important.

Before the amnesia, Pietro barely spared Kurt a second thought. Sure, they argued sometimes—Pietro lived to get under people’s skin, and Kurt, bless his heart, was basically Xavier’s walking, talking success story. Too easy to poke at, too predictable in the way he’d get frustrated, which made it fun. But it wasn’t deep. Not to Pietro. Just another way to entertain himself, another game to play. Kurt, though? Definitely took it deeper than it was meant to be. Maybe it was just frustration, maybe it was something else buried too deep for even him to recognize, but Toad saw it. Saw the way Kurt would get way too in his head after a fight, the way his tail flicked sharply whenever Pietro so much as breathed too cockily in his direction. Yeah, maybe Toad tried to steer him away from that mess, kept nudging him toward literally anyone else, because come on, Speedy was the worst option possible. Not that he was jealous. Nope. Not even a little.

Scott has absolutely no idea what Kurt sees in Toad—seriously, out of all people, why him? But it doesn’t really matter, because here Toad is again, climbing through Kurt’s window like a little goblin, tracking mud onto the carpet, and grinning like he just thought of the world’s dumbest, most annoying prank. And of course, Kurt’s laughing, already in on whatever disaster is about to unfold. Scott can feel his blood pressure rising because he knows—he just knows—that his night is about to be ruined, and there is absolutely nothing he can do to stop it.

Kurt likes hanging out with Todd because, for once, there’s no pressure to be anything other than himself. Even with the X-Men, there’s always this quiet weight pressing down on him, this reminder that no matter how much they accept him, they don’t have to hide like he does. They get to be themselves without a second thought—he has to put on a mask just to exist outside. But with Todd? There’s none of that. Todd leans into being the scrappy outcast, the guy nobody wants around, and somehow that makes it easier. He doesn’t make Kurt feel like he stands out—he just makes him feel like he belongs.

Jean doesn’t understand why she can’t sense Kurt. Ever since he went missing, she’s tried—God, she’s tried—stretching her mind out again and again, searching for even the faintest whisper of his presence. But there’s nothing. No thoughts, no emotions, not even that subtle, familiar hum of his consciousness at the edges of her awareness. Just a void where he should be. She tells herself it’s fine. That there’s an explanation. That maybe he’s just too far or something’s blocking her. But every night, when she’s alone with her thoughts, the truth slithers in—the one thing she refuses to say out loud. Maybe he’s dead. Maybe that’s why she can’t reach him. She can’t tell the others. If they knew she couldn’t sense him at all, they’d think it too. They’d believe it. And if they believe it, then it’s real. So she keeps pretending. Forces herself to act like she’s still trying, like there’s hope. Because as long as no one asks, as long as no one knows, then maybe—just maybe—she can keep pretending he’s still out there somewhere, waiting to be found.

Back when Toad was living in Brooklyn, he picked up bits and pieces of different languages—some conversational Mandarin from the old ladies who ran the corner store, but a lot of Spanish from growing up around it. It’s not perfect, and his accent is definitely rough, but it gets the job done. Lance loves that he finally has someone who actually understands him when he slips into Spanish, even if that someone is Todd. He also loves to give Todd endless shit for his pronunciation, mocking the way he butchers certain words just to get a rise out of him. Toad, of course, just rolls his eyes and fires back a stream of insults in Spanish, half of which don’t even make sense, but all of which are deeply offensive. It’s their thing.

When Tabitha got her navel pierced, it basically became her entire personality for a solid few months. Every outfit? Crop top. Every movement? Deliberately positioned to make sure people noticed. Didn’t matter where she was—school, the Brotherhood house, committing minor crimes—she was showing it off. It took actual winter weather to finally break her streak, and even then, she only caved begrudgingly. Of course, Lance and Toad immediately seized the opportunity to tease her about it. Every time she wore a normal shirt, one of them would casually go, “Wow, guess the belly button era is over, huh?” or “Damn, we really lost something special.” Tabitha would glare, threaten violence, maybe even chuck a small explosive their way, but the second it was warm enough again? The crop tops were back.

Toad is secretly way more sentimental than anyone would ever guess—not that he’d ever admit it. He’s got this whole stash of photos and videos saved up, just little moments of the people he actually gives a damn about. A lot of Kurt, because, well… obviously. But he’s got plenty of Lance and Tabby too—dumb inside jokes, random nights of them messing around, even the rare, unguarded moments where they actually look happy. And then there’s Pietro. The problem with Speedy is that he’s either moving way too fast for a normal camera or he’s making some deeply annoyed face at Todd for even thinking about taking a picture. The result? Pietro is mostly just a collection of motion blur and irritated side-eyes in Todd’s little archive. Toad hates that his collection of memories is full of useless, streaky nonsense instead of actual pictures, but whatever. Speedy will just have to live on as an artistic choice.

Pietro doesn’t mind when Kurt gets high—hell, he knows now that Kurt and Toad used to get high together all the time, which is honestly kind of hilarious. He even joins in sometimes, though it never lasts long. His metabolism burns through everything way too fast, making him the ultimate heavyweight. Joints and edibles don’t do much for him—he’s more of a dabs guy, the only thing that actually lets him feel anything. Still, just because he’s chill about it doesn’t mean he’s not watching Kurt like a hawk. No way is he letting his boyfriend green out or, worse, try to keep up with Pietro’s freak metabolism like it’s some kind of challenge. If Kurt’s getting too spacey, Pietro’s the one making sure he’s got water, making sure he’s eating, making sure he’s not about to tip over somewhere dumb. He plays it off like it’s just because he doesn’t want to deal with a mess, but the truth is? He’s stupidly protective, and no amount of weed is ever gonna change that.

Toad doesn’t really care what people call him—nicknames, insults, whatever, he’s heard it all—but there’s something kinda nice about hearing his actual name from his friends. Lance only ever calls him Todd when he’s exasperated, usually after Toad’s done something particularly dumb, like, “Todd, for the love of—can you just not?” Meanwhile, Kurt started calling him Todd the second he found out it was his real name, like it was the most natural thing in the world. No teasing, no hesitation—just Todd, warm and casual, like it belonged to him. Tabitha, on the other hand, takes it to another level, dragging it out into Toddy whenever she’s feeling playful—or right before she’s about to blow him up. And then there’s Pietro, who only calls him Toad—except, every now and then, he slips up, a careless Todd tumbling out in a moment where he’s not thinking. Toad never calls him on it, but they both know what it means. He doesn’t need some big declaration to know Pietro cares—he just needs to hear his name.

Ohhhh please do (only if you want, of course, no pressure)! Asks like this always stir up new ideas for the story. Plus they’re usually a lot of fun.

This one, I’ll admit, is a bit tricky for me, though because:

1) most of my headcanons (are they technically headcanons if I’m the author? 🤔) will be used in the story and I don’t wanna spoil anything. That’s no fun.

2) I feel like I’ve already hinted at or posted about the other ones.

3) I’d rather hear all YOUR headcanons 👀

But I’ll do my best!

Henry

- His birthday is in May (I’m pretty sure I just used Nick’s birthday because I was too lazy to come up with a new date 🤫)

- I’m sure I’ve said this one before, but he was held back once, in the 6th grade.

- Did Henry allow himself to get held back on purpose? Definitely. There was no way Henry was moving on to high school while Evelyn was still in elementary school. He was thrilled to be in the same grade as her.

- He struggles a lot with reading and writing. That’s his biggest hurdle in school. Otherwise he would be an average student.

- He’s not stupid and he really hates when people question or mock his intelligence.

- Let’s be real, Henry hates being mocked and teased period. But that is a special trigger for him.

- He hasn’t had a proper home-cooked meal since his mom left. 😢

- Most of his dinners come from a can. And sometimes they’re not even meals, just random cans of beans or vegetables.

- He also makes a lot of sandwiches. Nothing fancy.

- Occasionally, Charlene Huggins will bring him leftovers from the restaurant where she works.

- Yeah, Belch’s mom has a soft spot for Henry. Probably because she’s known him for so long.

- Tabitha Criss absolutely cannot stand him, but she tolerates him for her son’s sake.

Patrick

- His birthday is the same as in the movie, February 4th, so he will be turning 18 at some point in the story.

- His dad moved out sometime after the whole animals-in-the-fridge situation.

- He’s recently remarried but still financially supports his first wife and son.

- He just couldn’t bear to stay in that house anymore.

- (Or is there another reason?) 👀

- Patrick doesn’t enjoy most things, so he doesn’t really have a favorite anything.

- He has gotten his hands on a few snuff films, though, and finds them very… stimulating.

- He truly doesn’t remember his first kiss. It left zero impact on him. Might’ve been with a girl. Might’ve been with a guy. Who the hell knows. 🤷🏻‍♀️

- He lost his virginity at a shockingly young age. That’s all I’m gonna say about that.

Victor

- His birthday is in April, so he’s almost 6 months younger than Evelyn.

- Victor hasn’t had a birthday party since he was a little kid and his parents forced him to have them. He hates being the center of attention.

- Victor likes his routines. He hates surprises or having things sprung on him at the last minute.

- So he wasn’t flirting when he requested Evelyn give him advanced notice before coming over.

- Okay, he wasn’t just flirting.

- He really does appreciate the heads-up.

- Victor doesn’t know how to ride a bike. He was terrified of looking stupid while learning, so he never bothered to try.

- That’s why he never tried sports as a kid. He doesn’t like trying new things.

- He’s very picky about his food. There’s a lot of foods he simply won’t touch for various reasons.

- His mother knows his preferences and tries her best to cater to them.

- He’s never slept over at a friend’s house before. He simply can’t sleep in unfamiliar places.

- He hasn’t had his first kiss yet and he doesn’t really care. It’s not something he’s dying to do.

Belch

- Belch’s birthday is in October, same as Evelyn’s, so he’ll be turning 17 soon! 🥳

- He also got held back in elementary school. He had to repeat the 5th grade due to poor performance.

- His weakest subjects are math and English. Strongest subjects are phys ed, shop, and surprisingly, home ec.

- He took the class to meet girls… or at least that’s what he tells his friends.

- Henry was Belch’s first and only friend for most of his childhood. That’s why he feels so indebted to him.

- He’s had a distant but friendly relationship with Victor since elementary school, but they didn’t really start hanging out until high school.

- He introduced Victor to Henry and was shocked when Henry so quickly accepted Vic into the group.

- Belch keeps in contact with Moose Sadler and Gard Jagermeyer… or at least he used to. It’s been a while since he last heard from them. Weird.

- Christie Gibson is not Belch’s first girlfriend. He had one other before her, but she dumped him after a week.

- A lot of girls have expressed interest in him… for his car, anyway. He was the first in his grade to get his driver's license.

- His mother is an assistant manager at a local restaurant. She works long, long hours and rarely takes a day off.

- In case it wasn’t already obvious, Belch and his mother are very close. He considers her his best friend.

Misc.

- Lenny Arkins is on the hockey team. He’s a goalie.

- For a while, Paul Colborne thought Evelyn Tozier had a massive crush on him.

- When Paul first moved to Derry, Evelyn was the first to greet him and was always inviting him to hang out after school.

- His theory was debunked when the next new kid came along.

- Paul was very relieved. He wasn’t sure how to let her down gently.

- Lenny also thought Evelyn had a crush on him at one point.

3. Who is/are your favorite main character(s)?

Reese is my absolute favorite, to the surprise of no one I'm sure haha. Love him so much ;0;. And bonus points to the fact he's a monster. I also really like Tabitha! Was pretty neutral on her at first, but the more I found out about her the more she grew on me.

4. Who is/are your least favorite main character(s)?

Ah, that's a bit of a tough one as I don't dislike any of the main characters. If I really had to pick, it would most likely be Oscar only because I haven't spent as much time with him than the others. But like I said, I don't actually dislike any of them!

5. Who's your favorite side character(s)? Your least favorite side character(s)?

My favorite side character as of right now is Bo! He's a super nice guy and I really hope he'll be around more when we go to check on Julius.

Least favorite is Joan. She lost all my respect when trying to explain how poisoning and gaslighting her son was actually a good idea because he might be dangerous to others.

9. What difficult game changing choice was the hardest for you to make?

Hmmm, I'd have to say the dilemma for chapter 2 was the hardest. I actually went with leaving the kids during some of my earliest main playthroughs before deciding to see what would happen if I went back for them. And although I've made going back for them canon in my main playthrough at the moment, I'm honestly not sure if it'll stay canon. Been very indecisive about that one!

12. What's your favorite ship(s)? What's your least favorite ship(s)?

Obviously my favorite ship is Clementine x Reese and no I'm not being biased in any way ;)

In all seriousness though, as far as ships between canon characters go, my favorite is definitely Tabitha x Stella. I feel so bad for the both of them. Gonna do my best to get them back together in my main playthrough!

I'm also starting to grow fond of Avery x Wayne and Kaneeka x Bo, both of which started out as silly "haha what-if's" for me lol. They're fun to think about.

I don't really have a least favorite ship, but admittedly I don't really vibe with rival ships (more so for Stabby than the other two).

Although it would be really sad for me to see Live Again fizzle out before the climax, I can understand where you’re coming from and at the end of the day, it’s YOUR work to do with as you wish.

About “writing Adam wrong,” I definitely see those types of opinions thrown around in the fandom concerning Adam. People who agree with Heaven completely and hate the sinners as much as the in-universe exorcists, latch onto Adam (even though his interest in the Exterminations is clearly selfish) as their personal avatar of “Justice.” It’s very common to see his character twisted into a well intentioned, paternalistic defender of virtue, who was never wrong about anything. And of course, he has to a badass Sigma male too, because what can you expect? It clearly comes from a place of insecurity (and lacking self-awareness), and besides being completely OOC (Adam is literally a satire of people obsessed with masculinity), it’s just downright boring from a writing perspective. Obviously characters are more interesting when they have flaws and moments of vulnerability, but some people can’t accept that.

I will say, I honestly don’t see those types of opinions that often despite participating in the community, so I’m guessing a lot of this is deliberately targeted at you by certain bitter people. Is there any way to filter that kind of thing for you? If you can’t get away from that “feedback,” I can understand just wanting to distance yourself from the whole fandom.

Either way, I just wanted to thank you for all that you’ve written for Hazbin Hotel, and specifically Adam. You write him better than anyone else I know of! And Tabitha is one of my all time favorite OCs! I wish you well on all future endeavors. <3

How easy it is to avoid it depends on how far into the fandom you go. When I was just posting fics, I did get comments deriding me and accusing me of character bashing for not saying that Adam was the hero all along, but it wasn't all-consuming. However, between the two servers I joined and participated in, I experienced a lot of "Adam was right", going after anyone who portrayed Adam as a villain or Lucifer and Lilith as sympathetic, declaring WILDLY OOC fanon as Canon and aggressively pushing people to use it, forcing fics that are just blatant domestic abuse and sexual assault down people's throats (but it's okay guys, Lute likes it!), any discussion of queer Adam or Lute being shut down with insistence that they are both monogamous cishet, INSISTING that pathetic tradwife subbottom Lute and gigachad Adam are canon, demanding that All Guitarspear content be domtop Adam/subbottom Lute, and shutting down any headcanons or discussion of fics that contradict that.

Oh, and writing retaliation fic about how not portraying Lute as a rollover crybaby subbottom is anti-feminist using chunks of our conversation when I explained why I was uncomfortable when asked why I left the server. That was a fun one. <3

(Note: this is not me saying that subbottom Lute and domtop Adam are inherently bad, it's me saying that the way this server was pushing people to portray it was fucking disgusting, especially since they insisting that it was sweet and wholesome. They are the reason I won't write or read anything with subbottom Lute anymore, regardless of who wrote it. It just puts a horrible taste in my mouth due to the associations. Switch is fine but not straight-up subbottom.)

Then in the third server I was in, someone publicly called me out for having Adam use offensive language (in the context of one of the nicest things he did in the fic, but all that mattered was that he used the wrong words, with a mod immediately jumping to back them. And also most attempts at Guitarspear talk being shut down with insistence that Adam is irredeemable evil and Lute is a lesbian who needs Emily to save her. (Successfully made me hate Emilute. <3)

🍂☕ Scarlet Hollow ask game ☕🍂

I really wanted to do this ask game, so I've done it! Scarlet Hollow is one of my favorite games right now (second only to Deltarune). And I just wanted to have some fun, so here we go! Original was made by @juleshollow (thank you!!).

TRAITS:

Your "canon" trait combination? I have a couple different runs, and I haven't decided yet which is my "canon" playthrough, if there ever will be one. Regardless, I'm Powerful Build/Hot and Powerful Build/Keen Eye! (Will shorten Powerful Build to PB from now on. 🥜🧈)

What third trait would you add for hardcore mode? Tbh I haven't messed with hardcore mode yet. It's not too appealing for me (I am just not the type of gamer this mode is made for) because I feel like the consequences don't match the "crime". Conversely, I'm one of those dirty hackers who goes into the game files and changes the rules so that I can play with all 7 traits unlocked with no drawbacks. I've done this for a couple of playthroughs, but there's no combination that I super-like yet (though I will admit Mystic is a nice add-on to any existing combo). Once the game is all finished, I want to do a playthrough where I have all 7 traits and save the town. Not the hero Scarlet Hollow wants, but the hero we need. B) I will fix everything, goddamn.

What trait are you least drawn to? Probably Talk to Animals (TTA)? There are just other traits that I like more. If this game had more snakes in it, though, I'd certainly feel a different way. 🐍💕 Also, I was wary of Hot before I tried it, and still have some gripes with certain writing choices, but it's become one of my go-to traits.

Coolest trait? Fuckin PB, dude!! The one thing you always wish you could do in a horror movie, right? Be strong enough to punch the monsters in the face, beat the killers up, and it actually works! You really are strong enough, you really can protect! Maybe this says something about my psyche, or maybe I am just small and frail in real life, but dude I love to be the strong friend in this game. Also, I'm often drawn to the "regular" characters in horror/fantasy settings. Like, how does the guy without supernatural powers hold their own? What are they doing here? That's impressive and compelling.

ROMANCE:

Who are you romancing? Reese. Once he starts talking about horror movies, it becomes impossible to not kiss him.

What romance are you least interested in? I dunno? I'm probably not gonna do a Stella playthrough because I'm gettin Stabby back together if it kills me (if it kills me!). I like all the characters and think their romantic lives are interesting (I also really like Kaneeka/Reese. They are so nigthmare before christmas.)

Who would you romance if every single character was eligible? Probably Reese again LMFAO. On the real, maybe Winnie? Or Janey?

MISCELLANEOUS:

What character would hurt you the most if something bad happened to them? Tabitha. :(

sorry I'm about to Gotham post off the clock bear with me here, keep scrolling, block the damn tag, whatever

anyway while Gotham fails spectacularly on many levels as a prequel one thing that's generally done pretty coherently is giving us a sense of where major antagonists are coming from in terms of their background and relationship with their family. that's a little touch but it can tell us a lot about them!

a lot the Penguin's behavior tracks when you see his relationship with his mom and realize he was raised by a smothering, possessive woman who gave him an inflated sense of ego and also once sold her childhood rival's father to the Hungarian (???) secret police. one of my favorite pieces of characterization for Fish Mooney is her spinning a heartstring-tugging yarn about having to listen to her mother get murdered by a john only to get called out on it by her very alive mother, who we can see that Fish is treating like a queen. it's made clear in very few words that Barbara's parents were emotionally absent at best, and her murdering them is one of the biggest pivots of the entire show. we can see Jerome's anger towards his dead mother. Tabitha and Theo Galavan are hugely shaped by their relationship as siblings and as the heirs of an insane family of revenge-obsessed weirdos, Jervis Tetch is established as an above average scumbag when we learn that he's been sexually abusing his sister, Falcone is a murderous old man who misses his saintly mother so badly that Fish is damn near able to kill him with a well-placed substitution.

even the baby rogues get in on it! Selina's personality is largely informed by her mother's abandonment, Ivy's dysfunctional home life is a central plot point of the pilot episode, Jonathan Crane is a weird teen being pressured into helping with his dad's insane fear experiments.

anyway you may be wondering where I'm going with this and as always the punchline is the goddamn Riddler, a character I'm steadily becoming convinced that the writers straight up hated. I've just cleared season three (it was bad, thanks for asking) and so far there's been absolutely zero showing or telling in this show to indicate this man has any kind of human origin whatsoever. it's becoming increasingly plausible that he simply spawned one day when a child dropped a book of riddles into one of the open puddles of radioactive sludge that surely dot Gotham City and it mutated into a guy. like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles except he got autism instead of ninjutsu.

Maybe ask yourselves why the fuck he’d personally want Bughead back on the show. (and no, Bughead wouldn’t be better for his character. Nor does that have anything to do with "professionalism"). And while we’re at it — ALL the actors were deflecting a bit and wouldn’t go into too much detail because they’re tired of the constant ship wars and fandumb drama. Cole clearly endorses Jabitha. They are getting a lot of heat about the show generally, and yeah I’m sure hearing positivity was nice, obviously fans know how negative the spaces are.

I don’t know what his personal opinions are on the show and ships (nor would it influence my love of two fictional characters).What happens on the show happens on the show and we don’t have control over that. We are all allowed to ship what we like; I don’t particularly have anything against Tabitha and think all the new ships have been short changed, but that’s my opinion, if you love it then great. I hope you are enjoying it.

And of course all the actors are deflecting, the season is weird as hell and anything they say can be taken as a spoiler since no one outside the writers room seems to know where it’s going.

Yeah I’m sure they are tired of the ship wars, the fandom is tired too, I know I’m tired.

While the bugheads I follow tend to have more of a humorous tilt to them as we make fun of the show and even our favorite characters we do so in our fandom space. There is a stark difference between shipping/talking within your part of the fandom and bringing that negativity out into other spaces.

LOVED IT LOVED IT. so I’m not a big AU person (I love canonverse too much and there’s always so many OOC characters... it's why I never finished Beat Sheet RIP, though it was hilarious and now that I know the plot twist through tumblr I kinda want to finish it just for that.) But this hit just the right amount of buttons for me.

I think their relationship translated soooooo well to this alternate universe. like, what is dean if not just some guy with a shitty, shitty life but lots of spirit and love who somehow inspires cas to be himself and break free y'know.

the side character roles were so creative too. like, missouri being his former teacher and mentor? kevin being the insecure student in class who was worried he'd never measure up to the poems from class? even tired-and-true tropes like charlie being his best friend felt more fleshed out with the flashbacks to how they met and her having her own life & story rather than just being there to be the emotional gay support.

also I said this here but I really do like that jack was the saileen kid instead of the destiel kid. I'm not big on baby jack (sorry y'all.) to be fair, this is definitely a personal preference since I don’t really care for babies or kidfic in general lol (the responsibility of raising a baby is terrifying to me and I don’t get the appeal of a ship having one) and have complicated feelings on dean & jack in general. but sometimes it sucks to see the importance of sam & jack's relationship undermined just to give dean/destiel a baby too, especially when he had been the first one to truly be there for him and care about him. so this at least fixes that.

uncle dean works SO well too. he’s not his father but he does spend a lot of time taking care of the kid and still becomes a huge part of his life. and it also meant we got to have a young jack who greets everyone by signing and I think that’s absolutely adorable (love that he was still adopted too.) sam got to more than just the “brother who is off at law school” too, loved them discussing the intricacies of being raised by john winchester and dean seeing how sam is trying to be a better father to jack.

anyways, as for the actual meat of the fic I mean woooooooooh the psychoanalysis of dean winchester through poems were written SO well and delicately. I’m not a very cultured person when it comes to poetry so I honestly learned a lot about form and prose from the discussions about it in both cas and missouri’s class. jack allen’s style is so fun and the kind of poetry I would be way more into over the “I am very intelligent” types the other students seem to prefer, with the way it feels more real and storytelling and references pop culture. it’s why I enjoy spn bloggers’ poems so much I think, because I know what it’s referencing.

but yeah, the “perfect” poem had me crying and seeing cas’s reaction to realizing the “lazarus” poem was about him was great. dean’s first poem about death was actually my favorite, I loved that it used creatures from the show like Thee Death as metaphor and imagery in his poem. it’s just such a cool way to tie in canon.

other small moments I liked: 1) the alternating POVs showing how each saw the other and were like “wow he is out of my league” 2) the hilarious discourse on how his poem was “femalecoded” and Max and Kevin basically being like “yeah that’s not a thing” like hello spn tumblr and 3) DEAN’S BIRTHDAY <3

was it borderline lifetime rom-com? sure. is it very unrealistic that a lot of people would show up to a lgbt college group’s poetry seminar because there was an attractive teacher? definitely. but overall, it’s just a very soft and sweet fic that I think any artist or creative type (not just poem writers) can relate to and see themselves in.

anyways this is definitely longer than what you asked for but WOOF I like this fic a lot, talk to me about it

season one

there isn't much I think is super controversial in season one, but I will definitely be talking about selina, the batcat kiss, and the overall season itself

on selina i have to say i was a little nervous before the show aired. it’s silly but also understandable for me because i always find myself getting nervous whenever someone new takes on a character I love. but honestly, i think camren is the best selina kyle we could have asked for. there is just always something about each catwoman/selina kyle i didn’t like, but with camren i think we get the most true and genuine portrayal because gotham shows her childhood—a obviously important part to selina’s character. it’s a side of her we never get to see much of in the comics or in films, and i just find it a very important part to her character. 

sometimes I think people are too drawn into making selina something more (holy tim burton, batman! she’s got cat powers!). and I hate to throw tim  under the bus with this, but over time the whole cat powers thing really pissed me off because part of what I loved about selina was how she was a regular person. she didn’t need cat powers to be great or special. it also kinda makes me sad when people compare cam’s selina so much to pfeiffer’s because a. camren is her own selina and shouldn’t be put under that kind of pressure and b. I really can’t see someone as tough as camren’s selina becoming some old man’s assistant with “corndogs” as a (cat)chprase(?) 

i know it’s silly, but another thing about cam’s selina is how much i just love her. i just grew up wanting to be her and be like her. i wanted to be hardened by city streets and i know it’s dumb but i don’t think i have to explain why i feel such a strong way about her. we all have our favorite characters. **more of this hot mess in the tags

moving into the batcat kiss i was initially really uncomfortable and disappointed with it. david and cam were young at the time, therefore, so were bruce and selina, and i just honestly feel like it was too soon. however, i know in an interview they talked about it and were okay with it—cam saying how she was able to separate herself from the character—so I have grown to be more tolerant of it (is it dumb to say i was a little embarrassed for them because that’s how i would feel if it was me?) i am also not innocent because i did make a gifset of the kiss but it was also paired with selina asking for bruce’s consent, and i only made it because i liked the parallels (queue a young me making gifs on makeagif.com) Now, I will highly advocate for that gifset because to me it really shows how much selina went to get bruce’s ‘okay’ before she kissed him. i feel as though we are always advocating so much when it comes to a woman’s consent but never when it is a man’s and both are equally as important but we’ll get into that later in this post. 

another thing i want to add, is how i’d like to believe i have some idea as to why they did the kiss in the first place. i want to believe it had something to do with the trauma of the day, or the fact that bruce is a boy who showed selina genuine kindness when she is clearly someone who has gone without. god forbid it only to be seen as ‘cute’ but perhaps, because selina wanted to know what it felt like to be touched in that sort of way. by someone like Bruce (who was innocent and had never been kissed) maybe it was some sort of way to thank him or a parting gift, to which i’m sure people would say that’s wrong but i feel with selina’s background it makes sense. as if it was a way for bruce to remember her by. now, i personally wouldn’t know what any of that feels like so maybe that throws all my credibility out the window but these are just my ideas.

the season overall i hold onto dear, i know we all have our favorites and this isn’t controversial, but you can’t beat the first. sometimes, i do feel like shows lose their way and loose that little spark when they first got started. and to be honest, i did feel that a little with gotham. not only that (and i’ve said this before so i’m sorry if i’m a broken record) but with gotham it gaves us these characters we are so used to seeing a certain way. the show took these seeming monsters and turned them human and we as watchers related to them. edward nygma was a nerd working at the gcpd. oswald was a guy holding an umbrella, turned dishwasher who then became the king of gotham. poison ivy was just a kid. everything was so new and fresh and exciting. so yeah, i think that’s a wrap on season one

season two

the only thing i am really going to talk about from this season was ‘babitha.’ again, i am sorry for anyone who follows me, is reading this and is a fan of them but in all seriousness: their relationship was toxic as hell. first off, i really didn’t like barbara nor tabitha before hand. barbara always felt whiny and needy while tabitha was played like some ditzy woman for her brother. together they were highly annoying, and i almost hate say that because independently tabitha was a really strong character. i still didn’t like her but i see and appreciate her without her brother. 

going into that i really think there where times barbara dragged her down. times where barbara was unstable, power-hungry and it just seemed like tabitha was not enough unless she had more. barbara also didn’t seem to like the idea that butch had a special place in tabitha’s heart (and then later killed him). i mean this is a funny way, but barbara can come off like that kid who was never told ‘no’ in her life.

not to mention when tabitha died and barbara went and fucked jim for the sake it of, i guess. i know everyone grieves differently and holy batgirl, batman! but it doesn’t seem right.

i wish i had more to say on them with better examples, but i honestly have way more to say regarding the sirens so i’m gonna let you read that instead.

honorable mentions include: bridgit pike deserving better because that girl could never catch a break. and the true ending of herself and karen jennings meeting, falling in love, and leaving gotham together. it honestly makes me sad i made up this ship and it feels like i’m the only one keeping it afloat. 

season three

again, i have my issues regarding the siren’s team up, so i was unhappy when they decided to make tabitha galavan selina’s mentor. i personally would not want to pair someone as vulnerable as selina with someone who physically and mentally abused her, but okay gotham. so that is where my ted grant comment came in, i assume you’ve read the comics and know that ted was one of the few who originally trained selina before becoming catwoman. therefore, i was disappointed they didn’t use him as i find him a better canidate for a mentor but also such an important person in her story. he would have been a great addition to the show. 

of course my first honorable mention must go to the batman returns scene because you’re only hip if piggy-back off of tim burton. as i mentioned above i don’t like how much cam’s selina is compared to pfieffer’s. i don’t understand why they had to re-create something i already think is over hyped when gotham is already a great show on it’s own, it would have been redeeming if they had not done the ‘cat power’ thing in season five but thankfully they didn’t really use it.it really pisses me off how much they really tried to make that scene frame for frame. 

my second honorable mention is going to be given to selina not knowing five was bruce because of his scars & alfred and maria respectively. i could talk a lot about why i love maria and alfred--i understand why people don’t like her and they’re right to do so, however, i do think they are right for one another. they both have jaded pasts, and yeah, the show was teasing love-interests for alfred a here and there but how can you not be happy for him when he saw selina’s mom? i think people should be redeemed and i honestly think maria was at least changed by her time at wayne manor and if you want i wrote a fic about alfred and maria but it’s totally bad writing wise so don’t read it. also. i’m sorry it’s dirty and i couldn’t go through with it. it’s kinda bad

as for selina and five i think there is something imamate about selina knowing bruce’s scars (not gonna lie,i was honestly going to talk about this but i’m too tired and don’t think i have anything meaningful to have)

season four

this is probably going to be the hardest season for me to talk about. and the only two things i’m going to cover are the toxic manipulation and abuse between the sirens team-up, as well as the sexual abuse bruce endured.

on the sirens i just wanna say i hopefully plan in the future to make a master-post involving this trio. i want to be as clear as possible and include the episodes but in case i don’t i’m just going to try my best. keep in mind i made this post regarding this topic a long time ago if you want the quick version. if you do check it out it’s been a while since i read it so it is probably messy and ugly. i also want to point out i’m going to try and talk about how much of the adults in selina’s life failed her. barbara and tabitha hit this mark pretty hard since at least barbara was there in the beginning stages of her life, and the trio themselves were made to appear as some sort of strong power-house.

i get on a surface level why fans like the barabra/tabitha + selina team-up (because girl power i guess), but i honestly can’t get over the abuse selina endured to even get to the point of being in a group. much of their relationship seemed more about tabitha and barbara loving to have her rather then love her, period. there were times during their involvement that it was clear selina was not an equal, and times where being with them made selina weaker (speaking about when she called upon them for help in that one episode where she was trapped, yet you’re telling me this is the same girl who took out that guy’s eyes from season one?) several times, selina appeared to be talked down to and treated as though she couldn’t handle tasks, yet has been homeless her whole life and has broken in and out of prison. 

the interaction between barbara and selina from season one haunts me a great deal for the way barbara spoke to selina and was objectifying her. i made a long-post/ask about it here which i encourage you to look at. this is particularly hard for me to talk about for the simple fact of selina being a child of the streets and barbara speaking to her like she’s trying to pimp her out *for lack of a better way of saying it* i just don’t think this is something an adult should be saying to selina because the truth is that barabara is the adult and should do better. her and tabitha even dressed her up for that club commercial (in which selina was clearly unhappy) and had her running a club full of underage kids developing a drinking problem and one very small boy being taken advantage of. 

people hate it when alfred slapped selina but when tabitha punched selina unconscious and kidnaped her for barbara it’s no big deal

and the episode “to our deaths and beyond” hits deepest and is a clean sign of manipulation when they both tricked selina into bringing bruce so they could mutilate him for his blood. even when he was crying and panicking barbara help him down and tabitha held selina back from helping him. 

here is a gifset about the scene and *lex i’m sorry for using your set if you happen to see this (but please don’t see this because i don’t wanna make anyone feel bad and i just want to speak freely about what i believe) 

again, not treating selina with respect, and when she straight told them she would have not brought bruce BECAUSE HE IS HER FRIEND, tabitha got defense and questioned her loyalty. first off, you are an adult and should know how to act better. she knew selina wouldn’t have brought bruce otherwise because they knew what they were doing was wrong. they knew how much bruce meant to selina and for them to try to guilt her is awful in itself. tricking and manipulating bruce is awful. mutilating him is awful. and holding selina back from helping her friend after you lied to her is awful--this is honestly one of the most sickening things for me to watch *not to mention why you would not want selina to be friends with bruce when he’s clearly a great guy* (but the gifset is pretty no question. shout-out to lex for being so talented)

in addition to this, the entire selina getting shot storyline is right up there too. i understand the writer’s didn’t have enough time to flesh everything out but it wasn’t even mentioned once that barbara and tabitha went to visit her. i believe tabitha might have mentioned it but it was only to get revenge over jeremiah, but they never visited her or checked on her, and she tried to kill herself and still nothing. 

now, i’m not trying to be all biased for bruce wayne because he was there for her every singe day and never left her side. nor would i ever mention that idea of bruce physically helping selina care for her own body when she couldn’t. how he got her that medicine to heal her pain and held her while she screamed that she wanted to die. all the while doing everything he could to help her not feel that way again.

you can say a lot of things about bruce wayne. people love to talk shit about him. but at the end of the day you can never say he was a bad friend, because he was the best. and you can’t say that for barbara and tabitha (not only to add how all the abuse was never brought up nor apologized for)

now, onto something that i am a big advocate for and particularly boils my blood. bruce’s alcohol problem and constant physical abuse by the adults in the show. 

i am mainly speaking about ivy (peyton list) however, while reading a reddit thread someone said that grace’s actress as twenty-one years of age, also kissing david (who i believe was sixteen at the time). someone else, also said that it wasn’t really illegal but i honestly do not care. if the roles were reversed and it was a young girl vs an older man, people would be in outrage and i don’t think that should change be it david.

the scene with peyton particularly bothers me because she is substantially older, and while you could argue it might not be david based off how the scene was shot, i highly doubt it. it’s wrong no matter how you slice it and it particularly bothers me because the abuse surrounding men/boys is taken so lightly. i’m not trying to put presidency over female abuse, as i believe both are equal in how awful they are, but there is evidence behind males being mocked. something that is at a higher volume, and it makes me wonder the number of rapes that go unreported or those who can’t talk about it because they won’t be believed. i’ve already seen it but i would be lying if i said i wasn’t worried for david to be conditioned to think what happened to him was fun or cool.

on top of all the kissing in the club scene followed by waking up in bed with the two girls--i would not hesitate to think he was taken advantage of in some way. i also can’t even think of his drinking days and not think of all the people who potentially abused him.

i obviously can’t speak for david and perhaps i’m grasping at straws but this is something that bother me and no one talks about enough.

season five

nothing to add here except while i did miss cam in the final and it wasn’t complete without here, i very much respect her for her choice to walk away. i think it shows a high level of intelligence and integrity (something i wish i had). and i most admire her for passing on the torch when she felt she wasn’t ready, which i think speaks volumes of her and her character. again, selina one selina will always be my favorite so i love the idea of my favorite staying a young girl before she was ready. i don’t think the show was ready. and as much as i would have loved for her to have a cameo like david did, it isn’t here or there and she said she favorite scene was on the staircase. so as far as i’m concerned, that’s the best place to leave on (even though that wasn’t the last scene but we’re ignoring that)

Succession

Favorite character: Roman Roy, my favorite dysfunctional fuckoff. 

Least Favorite character: Honestly, every character on this show is great. I really feel that. Most hated is for sure Logan. But in a love-to-hate way.

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Roman/Gerri, Roman/Gerri/Tabitha, Tom/Greg, Marcia/Rhea, Tabitha/Willa.

Character I find most attractive: There are many women on this show who are smokin hot, and Stewy is objectively the hottest guy by far IMO, but if I am being perfectly honest about who I am most attracted to, it is Roman. I don’t even know.

Character I would marry: Tabitha, the only sane and maybe somewhat moral person. Also, she is so pretty <3

Character I would be best friends with: Also Tabitha. 

a random thought: Kendall isn’t my favorite character, but if Jeremy Strong does not win an Emmy, so help me. His performance is utterly unbelievablely good.

favourite friendship: How can it be anything but Tom and Greg? Though Roman and Kendall win for my favorite sibling relationship. But “friend” is not the right word.

when or if I started shipping it. TLJ. As soon as the soulbond kicked in I was a gonner. (I liked the idea in TFA, but didn’t actively ship it)

my thoughts: THEY ARE GREAT. Best canon hero/villain ship since Spuffy. I love how Rey never bent an inch for him, but still felt that connection. I love how well they fight together. Just all of it.

What makes me happy about them: That they are canon! His fucking smile when they kissed.

What makes me sad about them: That Ben is dead. It makes me sad both as a shipper, and because I think redemption via death is the least interesting way to go.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: I don’t read enough fic for them to have thoughts on this.

things I look for in fanfic: I like canon based fic when I do read it. Love me some h/c.

My kinks: Hurt. Comfort. Femdom.

How I feel about this character: He’s the best. Top 10 favorite characters ever, for sure.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Peter Parker. Pepper in canon, though I have some thoughts about how I don’t think they really make sense longterm. Bruce post-A1 but not really after IM3. If I weren’t so devoted to Starker Tony would probably be my fandom bicycle, but I am, so mostly it’s just Peter.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: NEBULA. Tony + Nebula BroTP forever. Though I also love Tony + Rhodey and Tony + his bots. 

My unpopular opinion about this character: I think his death worked and am not bothered by it.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish he had left a video message for Peter that we got to see.

Tabitha stood up to take Liam’s arm, and the group of four left the dining room to follow the security team heading to the palace carriage house & garage. While walking through the west hallway, they passed by Madeleine’s Press Office. Madeleine had been waiting by the door to greet them and holding a clipboard and pen walked with them as they made their way down.

“Your Majesties; Liam… Tabitha….”

“Good afternoon, ...Madeleine.“

Madeleine gave Tabitha the side eye and proceeded to talk, only to Liam.

“Liam, Ana De Luca and the rest of the Cordonian Royal Press Corps have been hounding our offices chomping at the bit, wanting official word from The Palace to confirm Tabitha’s pregnancy. I’m advising a full photo shoot cover & exclusive feature story spread in Trend to announce the news. We could even highlight the results of the Queen’s sonogram appointment today. The people of Cordonia are already gossiping and eager to know whether the heir to the throne will be a new Prince or Princess.”

“Madeleine, I don’t think my wife and I are quite ready to go to the press with this news yet. I would hope that Ms. De Luca and the rest of the CRPC would respect our privacy in this delicate time. They shall hear from us soon enough.”

“Liam, if you wait too long to go public you’ll miss your opportunity to control the narrative! The tabloids will have a field day speculating why the happy news hasn’t been officially rolled out yet by the Palace. The Queen is starting to show. You really can’t wait any longer!”

“I am well aware of the public’s unquenchable thirst for information about our private lives but we need to make this decision based on what is best for OUR FAMILY!!” Liam stopped walking to stomp his foot and look directly at Madeleine when he answered her, his reply echoing throughout the large gilded hallway. Tabitha, Drake, and Maxwell were all stupefied at the degree of Liam’s intensity.

Tabitha placed a cautious hand on Liam’s shoulder, feeling his muscles tense under her fingers.

“Darling… I think Madeleine gets the idea now. Madeleine, we’ll get back to you soon.”

His face softened and relaxed with a tinge of embarrassment as he put his hand back over Tabitha’s. “You’re right. Madeleine, I do apologize for my abruptness.”

Madeleine stoically looked down to dust non existent dust particles off of her green silk crepe dress “Think nothing of it… your majesty…” and her stiletto heels went clopping back down the hallway in the opposite direction towards her office.

Tabitha and Maxwell exchanged a look, while Drake dragged one palm over his forehead and scratched the back of his neck with the other, sighing, “Well, that was fun.”

“It’s the jet-lag, getting to me.” Liam replied curtly as he squinted and pinched the bridge of his nose. He again offered Tabitha his arm, a gentle but slightly unconvincing relaxed smile returned to his face as he gazed at her. “Come now, it is a happy day. Let’s continue.”

The drive over to the Adair OBGYN and Maternity Wing of the Royal Cordonian Hospital was quiet but tense. Bastien drove the black Landrover with Mara in the front passenger seat, the only sounds came from the road and from the radio dispatch security team updates they were monitoring. Liam sat with Tabitha’s head on his shoulder in the middle seats. She was trying to finish drinking her required 20 oz of water needed for the scan. Drake and Maxwell sat in the back. Maxwell’s phone and iwatch both vibrated on silent mode with a new text notification. It was from Drake.

Drake: You hanging in there?

Maxwell: 🤢💀

Drake: … Stay strong. For Carlisle.

Maxwell looked at Drake with a nervous expression. They both nodded solemnly at eachother, and Maxwell exhaled, turning back to look out of the window while trying to quiet the inner demons wrestling in his head. He felt something cool and metallic at his arm and looked down to see Drake’s hip flask resting against it. Maxwell was not a whiskey drinker, but desperate times called for desperate measures. He gratefully accepted and threw back three or four large swigs of warm Scotch. The burning sensation he felt as it went down his throat made Max wince, but physical pain was a welcome distraction from his negative thoughts. He shuddered passed the flask back to Drake, mouthing a silent “thanks” to him, while Drake replied with a discrete two fingered salute before taking a sip of his own.

The importance of keeping this appointment was nothing to be shrugged off. Because the Royal Cordonian Hospital was a public facility, security and scheduling had to be planned well in advance to make sure the Adair Wing was cleared out for the day with no other appointments to allow the King and Queen their privacy. A nurse greeted them as they got out of the car, and ushered them inside to the deserted waiting room.

“Your majesties, King Liam, Queen Tabitha. It’s so good to see you both again. And who are these gentlemen with you?”

Liam made the introductions, “Ms. Greaves, I’d like to introduce our good friends, Sir Drake Walker, and Lord Maxwell Beaumont.

“Your Grace, your grace—“

“Just Drake is fine”

Nurse Greaves shook both of their hands and then turned to Tabitha “Right then as Queen Tabitha’s nurse and ultrasound technician today, I’ll take her Majesty into the room first for blood pressure and weight checks, and once we have the ultrasound table set up we’ll call your husband back in, anyone else?”

“Yes, Max and Drake are here to see the baby too. They’re both my best friends and will be uncles to this little one” She felt compelled to cradle her stomach, something she had rarely done up until today.

“Excellent. If you would please wait here, we’ll call you all back when she’s ready then.”

Liam let go of Tabitha’s hand, kissing her cheek

Drake, shaking his legs antsy with restlessness immediately got up and started walking towards the snack room “Coffee. I need coffee. Does... anyone want some coffee? I’m gonna get some. Liam? Maxwell?”

Liam nodded and Maxwell shook his head. Drake left the two men while they both stared at the floor, deep in thought. Maxwell’s eyes were bulging and his arms were cradling his abdomen, as though he were afraid letting go would cause all of his guts to spill out.

“You do realize, Maxwell, this scan— it’s only to take anatomy measurements, check for the baby’s heart, brain and other organ health & development... and we should be able to find out the gender, but there’s... there’s nothing that will show up today, without further testing, anyway... proving...—“

Their eyes met in a tense silent moment. Maxwell was bracing for Liam to set all hellfire loose upon him. He was grateful for Drake’s timely interruption as he came back to the waiting room holding two steaming cups of coffee, while Nurse Greaves poked her head smiling from behind the main door.

“She’s ready for you three now. Please, follow me.”

Maxwell stood up slowly, stifling a nervous cough, and trailed behind Liam and Drake as they made their way to the ultrasound tech room.

Tabitha was lying on the exam table with the headrest slightly propped up so she could sit to greet them. She had on a gown and a paper-like blanket covering her legs. She beamed at the three men as they walked in.

“Wow, I just got emotional. Ariana, these three men right here, they’re my three most favorite people here on earth! My husband, and our two best friends, and I’m so happy we’re all here to meet my new fourth favorite person today ::sniff:: wow, thanks for being here you guys.”

Liam’s eyes were shining with tears as he took the seat next to Tabitha and kissed her hand. “It’s surely to be a day we’ll all remember.” He smiled warmly at Drake and then at Maxwell, who both sat down on the chairs on the wall that faced the exam table.

Maxwell gave Tabitha his best grin and nod of support, as he internally rode the waves of ebbing and cresting emotions: guilt, pride, love, fear. He leaned forward in the chair and addressed the ultrasound technician. “is this the part where you put the cold goo on her? I feel like I’ve seen this from movies and tv.”

“Well, one of the perks here at the Adair Wing is we take the time to warm the ECG gel for our special VIP patients as a special treat. She winked at Tabitha as she lifted the gown and applied the gel. Nurse Greaves made a few silent clicks on the ultrasound terminal computer to bring up the screen on the monitor. “There... we... go. This wand, or transducer, is used to emit ultrasound waves to bring up the image on our computer here for you to see and I’ll just guide it along right... here...ahhh... there we are!”

Nurse Greaves turned the screen towards the group for everyone to see. “There, is your sweet little one!”

Tabitha covered her mouth as became even more emotional “Hello my baby! Oh, I feel like up until this point, it’s looked like an alien, but it actually looks like a real baby now,”

Liam’s eyes teared up again. “That’s a hand, isn’t it? Is the baby sucking its thumb?”

“Oh how precious!”

Maxwell stared in awe at the screen. The prospect of a real new human life, not just a hypothetical “baby” becoming a part of theirs suddenly became more real than ever before.

Nurse Greaves continued the exam.

“Heart rate looks strong and within the normal range. See? There’s the heart, the ribs... that’s funny, I’m getting a spinal and head measurement that more closely tracks with a fetus at 21 weeks, but” she nodded and winked, smiling towards Liam, “it’s not unheard of and probably nothing be concerned about, since your husband is a tall drink of water himself. This little one likely just takes after his or her father.”

Tabitha smiled back at Liam and laughed off her comment nervously “He is tall, any taller and I’d have to stand on tip toes in platform heels to kiss him!” Liam squeezed her hand. Drake turned and creaked an eyebrow at Maxwell who seemed to be doing math in his head.

“Now, your majesties, are you ready to find out whether this little one is going to be a Prince or a Princess?”

“Yes—”

“No!”

They all turned suddenly to Maxwell, who had been the one to contradict them.

Tabitha’s eyes went wide and searched Maxwell’s trying to figure out what he was up to.

“I... mean... it’s not my decision but, maybe, maybe it doesn’t matter whether it’s going to be a ‘he’ or a ‘she,’ or a ‘they’ even? This kid is going to be the most loved baby in all of Cordonia regardless... so...”

Tabitha stepped in “That’s very sweet. I agree wholeheartedly with you Max, but I think that Liam and I might go crazy with curiosity wondering if we don’t take the opportunity to find out the baby’s sex now.”

“As you wish, my love. Though Maxwell, i concur with your sentiments also.” He turned back to Ms Greaves. We’ve been waiting a long time for this now though so let’s find out today while we’re here.”

“Certainly, your majesties. Let’s just hope the little one cooperates with us and isn’t going to be too shy on the screen here...”

She adjusted the probe lower on Tabitha’s abdomen and typed some cues onto the keyboard to bring up a new camera angle on the screen.

“Well would you look at that now... hold still your future highness!” She giggled “Goodness me! Seems this baby would rather have a dance party than hold still for us!”

Maxwell barfed. He leaned over his chair and vomited loudly into what blessedly happened to be a bio-hazard bin beside his chair in the exam room. He could taste whiskey, bile, and the lobster bisque soup & salad that had been served for lunch as it came up a second time. Maxwell held onto the red bin and continued to wretch loudly, doing so even after the contents of his stomach seemed to have been completely vacated. Drake and Liam exchanged horrified looks. Tabitha gasped and sat up, not noticing the paper drape over her legs falling down to the floor. Liam stammered and retrieved the drape to put it back over her. He hoped he had been the only one to hear Drake muttering under his breath “:::nothing the three of us haven’t already seen before:::”

“Omigod Max? are you all right?!” Tabitha wanted to get up to comfort him but Liam held her back, gripping tightly onto her hand and unable to hide his scowl of upset.

“Good gracious. Lord Maxwell? Can you tell me what symptoms you’re experiencing right now?” She put a gloved hand over his forehead as he slowly got up.

“I’m sorry... I guess... I shouldn’t have anything to drink in the back seat on the ride over”

Drake clapped his back. “C’mon man, lets go get you cleaned up.”

They could hear Nurse Greaves asking Liam to help Tabitha dress to get ready to finish the ultrasound in another tech room down the hall as she dialed the maintenance crew to tell them to come and clean up the mess.

Maxwell held his stomach as Drake ushered him towards the men’s room.

Max bent down in the sink and splashed water on his face and in his mouth.

“That wasn’t just the whiskey, was it?” Drake prodded

Maxwell turned ‘round and held a finger over his lips, his eyes widening at Drake. He looked up at the ceiling of the restroom and pointed to what appeared to be a small dark glass domed covered security camera lens on the ceiling.”

“She said ‘dance party’! 21 weeks? Shitshit-shit, Drake! What am I going to do?!

“Not a damn thing. That stuff she mentioned means nothing right now. No one knows anything for sure. So you, are going to have to man-up, and find a way to calm yourself the-fuck-down before we go back in there again.”

“I can’t go back in there, Drake! Did you see the way Liam looked at me when she said that. He probably wants to kill me and right now I can’t blame him. I shouldn’t have come here in the first place this was a huge mistake!”

“Carlisle needed you here and Liam agreed. The only mistake made, today anyway, was you not being able to keep it the fuck together in there. If this... if this is... yours... we’ll all have to deal with it later. Now let’s go back.”

“Ok...” He steadied himself on the wall with a deep breath, before he washed his hands one more time, and pushed out the door open with Drake behind him.

Tabitha was dressed and standing next to Liam, holding a picture from the sonogram that had been printed out. They were both in discussions with Nurse Greaves and a Doctor standing next to them.

Liam posed the question “so, how often does it happen that the baby is moving around so much that it’s difficult to get a decent glimpse of the child’s gender.”

The doctor spoke “more often than you would think! We have her Majesty scheduled for a 30 week ultrasound, 10 weeks from now. The baby will be bigger and will have less room to move around in, so finding out the sex should be much easier at that point if you decide to find out before the birth.”

Tabitha turned to Maxwell and took his wrist “Maxwell, you’re ok now? I was so worried—“

“Yeah I think so, sorry about that.”

Liam clapped him on the shoulder. “It’s no bother. Tabitha and I took it as a sign that we should end the exam without finding out our baby’s sex. We liked how your arguments put forth a more modern way of thinking about the importance, or lack thereof, of gender in society, and we feel that it will be a good step in modernizing the way the Cordonian Monarchy works in the 21st century.”

“Oh, heh, great! Then when he or she or they are born, it will be a proper surprise birthday party”

“Exactly. I think we’re done here, but oh! I didn’t get to introduce you two to my doctor! Drake, Maxwell, this is my OBGYN who’ll be delivering the baby, Doctor Valerie Thorn.”

“Pleasure to meet you, your Graces,” she shook their hand but stopped as she locked eyes with Drake & seemed to jog her memory. Drake looked back at her, confused. “Wait, you’re Sir Drake Walker? Oh, you must know my cousin, Kiara? She had nothing but good things to say about you when she told me all about her adventures during the last Social Season.” She gave him a subtle wink. “You know, I think she’s still single? Are you single too?”

Drake swallowed hard and looked as if he wished disappear or be anywhere but in that doctors’ office. His eyes darted from Liam’s to Tabitha’s and he stammered, trying to come up with a response.

Maxwell suddenly felt a second wind and smirked, happy that he wasn’t the only one now who’d been in the hot seat. “Yeah... I don’t think Drake’s on the market right now, are ya, buddy?”

“I’m not your ‘buddy’...” he huffed under his breath as his cheeks turned a brighter shade of scarlet.

Liam cleared his throat loudly. “Right then, Thank you so very much, Dr. Thorn, Ms. Greaves, for everything. We’d best be off now.” He took Tabitha’s hand and they met back up with Bastien & Mara in the waiting room to return to the Palace.

They were less than a kilometer from home when Liam turned around to the back seat and addressed them all, “I have a surprise for all of you when we get back.”

Drake grumbled “I don’t like surprises.”

Tabitha replies, “A surprise for all of us? What do you mean? I can’t begin to guess what it is”

The pit in Maxwell’s stomach lurched and he covered the nervous cough that came up. “All of us?”

“Yes Maxwell, you too...”

The Land Rover pulled up to the front of the palace where they saw Gladys ready to greet them with a man and woman standing next to them, holding a small child.

Tabitha squealed in delight “It’s Bertrand and Savannah and Bartie! Liam, was this the surprise?”

*Phew.* Maxwell couldn’t remember the last time he’d been so happy to see his brother and sister-in-law. Possibly after they had all defeated Anton and returned to Liam and Tabitha’s wedding. If this is all the ‘surprise’ is, then it can’t be too bad...

Liam helped Tabitha down out of the car and she rushed to embrace them “Savannah! It’s been so long! Look how big Bartie is now! Oh it’s so good to see you all! And Bertrand, we’ve missed you”

Maxwell lifted up his nephew high in the air and Bartie shrieked in a fit of giggles

Savannah spoke first after she finished hugging Drake “Liam told us you could use some new mom advice to help get ready for the baby!”

Bertrand scoffed “I don’t really understand why. Bartie’s a toddler now, he’d hardly be considered a baby any more—“

Savannah playfully slapped him “It doesn’t seem that long ago to me. Oh I have tales Tabitha, but let me know if I should spare you all the gruesome details of Bartie’s birth stories.”

Tabitha took Savannah’s arm affectionately “No you are an invaluable resource and you must tell me all, the good the bad and the ugly. I want to be prepared! All of the things you wish you had known when you were pregnant with Bartie...”

Tabitha and Savannah continued to gossip as they walked inside. The men walked behind them, except for Drake who was in the middle of giving his nephew a piggyback ride.

Bertrand walked back with Maxwell “How is Tabitha doing now? She seems better than you described before you left Ramsford. You know, Savannah and I have already been plotting to figure out how we can betroth our Bartie to the new heir to the throne.” He winked conspiratorially at Maxwell, who stopped dead in his tracks.

“You want to what? Uhhh I don’t think that’s the best idea I—“

“What do you mean Maxwell? As Bartie’s father and head of House Beaumont I have the responsibility of securing the most advantageous—“

“Just—-trust me...hold that thought—“ Yearning for a distraction he found one in noticing a second Land Rover that had just pulled up to the front entrance of the palace which the servants were busy packing with camping gear.

“Hey Liam? Who’s going camping?”

“The gear is for you and me, Maxwell. The two of us are going camping tonight!”

...I don't really like Connor Roy either

Just for the record, after my one viewing of the show, my ranking of Sucession characters is probably like:

Gerri

Roman

Kendall

Shiv

Tom 

Rhea

Connor

Greg

Tabitha 

Logan

with a lower tier where I’m meh on people like Frank, Willa, Rava and Marcia but i kinda want Karl pushed off the yacht for going after Gerri. But heading into 2.10, both Tom and Greg were very much my least favorites, so i know this list will keep changing. 

And yeah, the Roy Siblings implications of that ranking are that Connor’s less beloved by me? but I also couldn’t get a read on him through much of s1. 

Like here’s Kendall, whose addictions are the damage their money papers over, and here’s Roman, who uses their money to cover up the damage being a Roy gave him as a child, and then you have Connor, whose consensual financial relationship with Willa everyone treats like a joke, while they also joke about Roman’s abuse and Kendall’s rehab.

So I kept waiting to find out that Connor Roy had his own damage when it comes to being scary with women, financial settlements and things the family prefers not to talk about because he mostly stays out there on that ranch and he pays a woman to belong to him and he doesn’t embarrass them much. 

Instead, in S2 Connor was a guy who is very tense about party planning and would like the nuclear launch codes please. I’m not sure what to do with that!

Is he really just kind of a weirdo whose distance from the money and the power gave him less damage? Or is S3 going to show what’s underneath his relatively-more-laid-back heir mode?
