During a March rally on the University of South Florida’s campus, three members of the Tampa Bay Students for a Democratic Society (TBSDS) and a university staff member involved with the organization were arrested by campus police during a protest against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. In May, a fifth individual turned herself in after being issued a warrant by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department and is now facing similar charges. Now known in total as the “Tampa Five,” Chrisley Carpio (31), Gia Davila (22), Laura Rodriguez (23), Lauren Pineiro (23), and Jeanie Kida (26) could each be facing between 6 and 11 years in prison if convicted of felony charges of battery on a law enforcement officer.
All five protesters, who are being represented by criminal defense attorney Michelle Lambo, pleaded not guilty to the charges at their arraignment on May 17. Davila, who just graduated in May, tells Teen Vogue she had to drain her savings to pay $3,500 in bail funds. Carpio, who says she had never even been written up during her seven years of work for the university, believes that she was wrongfully terminated after being placed on paid administrative leave and has filed a grievance.
A representative from the University of South Florida tells Teen Vogue via email: “The University of South Florida dismissed Chrisley Carpio from employment in April for violating several university policies and standards. As Carpio is a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union, the university followed all pre-disciplinary, due process steps contained in the staff collective bargaining agreement.” [...]
The dispute involved here dates back to a March 6 campus rally that TBSDS organized to protest the defunding of DEI programs. After convening at the university’s Marshall Student Center, protesters went inside the Patel Center for Global Solutions because they wanted to speak with university president Rhea Law to demand that the administration increase Black enrollment and the future of DEI programs, according to the Tampa Bay Times. That’s when law enforcement got involved and the situation violently escalated.
In video footage posted to TBSDS Instagram, USF's chief of police Christopher Daniel can be seen speaking to protesters just before Davila responded that they “are staying here until [they] get a meeting with the president.” Daniel grabbed her arm and, as seen from other posted footage, appears to have thrown her on the ground.
Although the footage is chaotic and difficult to make out, other officers and protesters got involved, leading to a violent scuffle that continued outside the building, off camera. An official statement released by the USF police department alleges that university employees who work in the building asked protesters to go outside before officers arrived and also asked them, multiple times, to leave. [...]
In phone interviews with Teen Vogue, Davila and Carpio allege the situation played out in a completely different way. Carpio says they walked into the building with no problem and at that point had not been told by administrators to leave. But things very quickly took a turn.
While protesters were chanting, Carpio alleges, police started grabbing students. Davila says she was thrown to the ground. Video of the incident shows that while Davila was being tackled by officers, the chief of police placed his hand on her rear end for several seconds.
“The chief of police grabbed me from behind, picked me up off the ground, and threw me face down on the ground," Davila alleges, "and then proceeded to grope me while another cop bent my arms behind me.” She is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence, disrupting a school campus or function, and trespassing in an occupied structure.
Carpio — who is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence, and disrupting a school campus or function — alleges that officers did nothing to de-escalate the situation and blocked the doors as she tried to get protesters to go back outside. After finally making it outdoors, she says, she was pushed up against a wall as officers hit her in the face and one placed an elbow to her throat. (USF police tell Teen Vogue they will not provide any further comment on the details of the allegations now that the case has been turned over to the state attorney’s office.) [...]
Says [Morenike] Fajana, [assistant counsel for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund,] the state should expect young people to become more vocal as they fight to retain stable learning environments. For their part, Carpio and Davila are grateful to have solidarity with other organizers and support from online petitions, but the reality of possibly facing 6 to 11 years in prison is something they don’t take lightly.
Still, both women say, they don’t regret their actions and wouldn’t do anything differently if they could go back in time. Carpio says there’s always an inherent danger from police and administration when you’re in a movement, asserting your rights, and exercising free speech. “The state attorney said that they would consider dropping the charges if we wrote down on paper that it was our fault, that we did battery, and that if we wrote apologies to all the cops,” she says. “And we all said no.” [...] “The solidarity from everyone has been amazing,” Carpio says. “Instead of making people scared of protests, SDS chapters — the day we got arrested — immediately had protests in other states…. They've been fearless, and I think it's only invigorated the movement instead of putting it down.”

Ok so basically about that comment about the human flower. So that girl is in the visual novel game Your Turn To Die (you've probably heard me talk abt it before, definitely seen me post and reblog abt it I am going insane over it,) and she's called Kanna, and in one of the routes of the game she dies.
So because they're in a death game (self explanatory imo), all participants have these collars on them and they uh. They can do a lot of things! They act as a sort of way to keep anyone from stepping out of line, and in some cases can be used to kill people. One guy called Mishima got his head straight up burned off his body because it heated up to a ridiculous degree (what a unique way of beheading someone!) and they can also explode! Neat! Anyways when Kanna dies in the route she dies in, her collar plants these specific seeds in her that rapidly grow in her body and turn her into a human flower. It is extremely painful. Like. The game is done with drawn sprites and pixel art but god it was pretty horrifying to watch unfold. And if you thought that was bad she uh. She is also a lil twelve year old!
Anyways with that out of the way I'm curious abt that OC you mentioned :3
Oh damn! That's really morbid! D: That's something that would totally keep me up at night! Things like that, like parasites or anything to do with the insides of a person, I really can't deal with!
Sorry for the late reply, I had to gather all of my info on this OC XD His name is Bluebell and I made him with @dremyink06 as a part of an original story called The Bluebells Sound Death, or TBSD for short! (I sometimes call it the Bluebell Saga, since the sequel is called Sunflowers Spring Forth Day)
I'll put brief summary of it under the read more!
The Bluebells Sound Death is set in around the 80s probably, Ink and I haven't fully decided on the date.
The main character is Sun Fowler, who is from a wealthy family and lives in a mansion surrounded by a lush garden he looks after. He finds that his prized bluebells keep getting eaten, so he asks his mother, Rossette, what animals would eat bluebells. He soon finds out bluebells are poisonous and goes out to figure out what had been eating his bluebells.
He soon comes across a guy lying down in his bluebell field, hiding from him. They introduce themselves and he finds out Scilan Dumort, some random guy who lives next door, has been eating his bluebells as his late mother told him that it would heal him. By the fact that he wasn't dead yet, Sunflower believes him. and invites him over for a proper dinner.
They find out they go to the same school and become very good friends, along with a girl at school named Poppy. Both Poppy and Sun nickname Scilan, Bluebell, thanks to his love for eating bluebells.
Eventually, Sun learns that Bluebell has had a curse since birth thanks to his parents' knowledge of witchcraft. They died to the curse while Scilan has a few years to live. The bluebells act as a remedy and keep him from dying but he didn't even realise he had a curse. His mother had simply advised him to eat bluebells every day.
Not only was he just a weird person in general, but Bluebell was constantly bullied for being gay. Late in the story, he confessed to Sunflower, but Sunflower mistook the confession as a joke and got arrogant about it. Heartbroken, Bluebell took the lonely path home. But, he began coughing out flowers on the way and he soon falls. Sunflower ran after him to actually say that he loved him but found Bluebell dying in the bluebell garden. Sun mourned his death. As they say goodbye Bluebell tells Sun to feed him a bluebell but Sun refuses, thinking there would be a way to fix this. In the end, Bluebell eats it and passes soon after.
Luckily, Bluebell comes back later as a ghost thanks to their strong love. But, he is completely covered in bluebells thanks to where he died and from eating bluebells. But don't worry, they live happily together :D
The blue haired guy is him as a ghost in Miitopia with his friend from another original series! (And me in the top left and Ink's OC Morty in the top right XD)

This all started out as a Caejose Hanahaki RP that spiralled way out of control! I actually have the original version of the Hanahaki AU written out, but it was when Ink and I were new to the fandom so I'd like to rewrite it someday.
I also wrote a song for this series! Maybe I'll post it sometime? Who knows XD
But yeah! That's a quick summary of TBSD!
#bluebell my beloved#i remember writing a very descriptive death for bluebell#very sad#then i mistyped and wrote 'like a grap vine growing' instead of grape#and it totally wrecked the mood XD#thanks for asking abt tbsd fhgjgfh#tbsd#my ocs#answer box

{ @lightcoded closed, plotted starter}
The prison was their fortress, a safe haven that kept him and his group securely protected from the threats of the outside world - both dead and alive. The small group that they had residing inside of the prison was one that was close and tight knit, and more than hesitant to let anyone else inside. They had learned that they couldn’t trust others, that the only people that they could tend to trust were each other. Each person had a role in their group, and there was no need to try and recruit others from coming in. Their were content in the walls of their safe haven, alone together.
Which is why whenever this woman approached the facility pleading to be let in a way from the wall of walkers that wandered after her, they were all hesitant to allow it. Rick had made the final call to allow the woman inside, saying they couldn’t go on with clean consciences if she would have died on their grounds. They could lock her in a cell until they knew that she wasn’t a threat, and then decide where to go from there.
Which is how they ended up here, with Daryl pacing outside of the gated room that she was now confound to, occasionally exchanging glances with her. He wasn’t one to talk much, but figured that they would have to end up having conversation, they would have to see what this woman was about if they were going to determine if they were going to keep her around (if she even wanted that), or send her on her way.
“Y’said you were out there lookin’ for your sons?” He questioned when he finally spoke up, the statement having been the woman’s own reasoning when she was initially asked what the hell she was doing out there alone. “How long’ve they been gone?”
#hope this is ok??? i figured there would be the most room for progression if we made it right after she showed up#lightcoded#{thread: tbsd [lightcoded]}

Bluebells! The reason why is quite personal, but due to something rather random
My sister and I created a story known as the Bluebells Sound Death, and what originally was a fanfic has turned into an original story. Thus, Bluebell, the main character, has become a very important character to us, and bluebells in turn.
And since Ink added the name Sunflowers Spring Forth Day as the sequel, starring Bluebell's more than a friend, Sun Fowler, sunflowers are important to us too!
I find them interesting for their tendency to curse anyone they are plucked by with bad luck thanks to fairies and such. They're super pretty too, and poisonous I believe. Just an interesting and pretty flower in general.
My friend IRL also told me her favourite flower was ALSO bluebells, which was just a coincidence!
#i might post the fanfic vers of tbsd on ao3 at some point but who knows XD#gotta rewrite it since it was my first jojo fic#thanks for the ask mika!!!#answer box
