The level to which AI has infected academia not just on a student level but also in the teaching sphere and in doctorate level research spaces is going to have catastrophic consequences that I can’t even fully conceptualize right now and yet I continue to be confronted by it every day
#why are so many teaching resources and online areas of professional study being taken over with ai ???#anyway if you are educating students based off the ‘work’ of an ai program you should not be teaching#misinformation dissemination in the classroom is only going to get exponentially worse#flora.txt

#theres an online pastry program............#im gonna look into that as well as the vet tech program#part of me is so reluctant to give up on pastry but part of me says maybe i should stop trying to monetize my hobby#and i like the vet tech program bc its the same school i graduated high school from so i know how they teach#it can be challenging being online but ive done it before and im getting help for my adhd now#but when i was in normal college and they had online classes . i just Could Not#so idk about a different online school#theres just no other options#i need to find out more about their externship#bc thats the scariest part obviously#the vet tech program has 2#but the pastry program i dropped out of had 3 . i already did one. and the hours are literally insane#my friend who did a nurse practitioner thing (idk exactly idk how it works lol) had less internship hours#than the culinary program.#she is sticking people with needles.#and its only like that bc the head of the program is a power hungry control freak who thinks chefs shouldn't get breaks 😀#he made it to make us suffer. congratulations you succeeded and perhaps threw away my dream since I was 13 😀 are you happy chef ******

going into my final week of classes and we always have one last week after the final paper (so the professors have time for grading) where typically the only work we have is one last discussion post.
usually, this post is pretty simple and light (to go easy on us after the final). my ethics class is like “summarize your conclusions from your final paper! :)” and my communications class is like “tell the class about your career goals! :)”
meanwhile, statistics…

#which is very easy - it’s just FUNNY#you thought we were done learning new material after the final? THINK AGAIN!!!!!!!!#READ THE PYTHON SCRIPT AND WEEP#no but stats was my favorite class this semester…#i still wanna take stats II but i haven’t decided for sure yet#it’s a lot of work but it’s very straightforward work#as opposed to my environmental and communications courses that involve a lot of opinion#which is fine but can be really tiring when the thing they want my opinion about is stupid or repetitive#like. FOUR courses made me take that one environmental footprint calculator quiz…#FOUR SEPARATE COURSES#and it’s like. i’m not saying it’s not important - but i GET IT!!!!!!!#at this point it’s just a waste of my time - teach me something i don’t already know!#i definitely should have taken a different online program but that’s beside the point#it’ll even out once i get my master’s#and i’m ultimately happy to have had the ‘broader’ education of environmental science (with a communication minor)#bc i think that’ll serve me better in management later in my career#even if it makes early career stuff more difficult

Me going into that interview powered-up from all the luck and well-wishes from my family and friends like:
#i talk#job talk#I think it went really well!#Despite my body and brain self-sabotaging me by keeping me up until like... 3:30 am last night#The biggest mark against me is the fact that I don't have tons of experience managing a specific program platform#but I (a bit belatedly) reminded them that I have tons of experience doing website management (including our company's website)#so maybe that helps???#There were 3 interviewers which would've been stressful (even if that seems to be the norm now) but I knew all of them#Like. I don't know them SUPER well but I DO know them. As in we've all met and there's no bad blood or anything#So that helped a LOT#Me on my hands and knees like: Please let this be a nepotism hire I need a better paying job so frickin bad#It's hilarious (but mostly extremely depressing) how the first interview I've gotten in YEARS after hundreds of job applications—#—is only because it's for a job at a company I already work for. What a mess. And I have almost 10 years of experience in my field#Anyways. It was a virtual interview but I still put makeup on so A) They don't see how dead I look#and because B) My eyeliner really makes my expressions more visible#I actually never wore eyeliner until I started teaching online during the peak of the pandemic / lockdown#I made the same discovery that my eyeliner really makes my expressions more visible and I look friendlier#Which I think helped since my students were all Going through It (I mean; we all were; but good god lockdown was bad for the kids)#So now I just kinda always wear eyeliner when I do makeup. I could probably do it thinner but I'm too lazy to re-learn it#Makeup is an expensive art form but I admire anyone who is dedicated to the practice. It's really cool seeing people do it!#Anyhoo back to work#gif warning

Tbh the strangest and most concerning thing about kids that I’ve observed get steadily worse is how these kids just…don’t know how to use a computer???
Like if you put a 12-15 year old kid and my 50 something year old mom next to each other and asked them to copy and paste using a computer, both would look at me like a deer in headlights!!
And yes I know some of this is because schools just don’t really have computer classes anymore (like I had ones that taught “proper” typing, Microsoft office programs like Word and PowerPoint, etc.) but like??? Every school I’ve been to so far has had computers for students so they’re all on devices all the time yet still don’t know how to use them.
Hell, they barely know how to type a URL in! Like! Huh! I’m genuinely concerned about them not knowing how to use a computer properly and how they use it so freely without proper thought and care as to what they put out into the world.
#meows#SORRY teacher rant#and before you go well then just make your work paper#1. their handwriting is on level with their reading scores (3rd grade or lower)#and 2. the main class I teach has a program that’s only online#that I’m required to make them use#and tbh for my two ela classes most of my stuff IS paper#except bell ringers that’s online#it’s just scary how their media literacy is on par w their computer skills#I even try to add visual instructions to help them#but next day boom gone#I have kids who still ask how to copy and paste their assignments#into the turn in box even tho it’s a daily assignment they do#and so theoretically they should be copying and pasting each day#and yet!

Rematching comfort media (george trombley's Japanese From Zero lessons) bc I'm rusty and want to get active with the language again, and bc I'm feeling stressed out and need to relax so bad...
(I just feel really warm inside when i rewatch his videos. I hope i get to 250th+ episode again this time :) )
#i wish chinese and french had online series that teach them this well and for free#i always felt like japanese language learner community was very mutual-help driven with all the free programs and resources...#most full chinese and french course videos on youtube are ''samples'' and you need to ''buy peoples courses'' to get anywhere else.#and theres nobody who like... gets this personal. mr trombley is really fun to watch. and he explains everything in a fun way#with personal anecdotes.#hnnnhhh i Wish there were more lesson series like this about other languages. i

Hang on thought about pastry arts school again

#like. why and HOW did i go through 2 full years of college and not graduate with an associates#how did they get away with stringing me along for 1.5+ years as a pastry arts major with no pastry chef#the one pastry class i did have when i met the pastry chef before he quit. it was like. taunting#bc it wasnt extremely new info to me it was baking 101. but the chef was such an amazing teacher#and i was so excited to learn from him#and i cant blame him at all for quitting like bro i wouldn't wanna work there either !!!!#they couldn't hire another pastry chef for almost 2 years bc NO ONE WANTED TO WORK FOR THE PROGRAM HEAD#i know of 2 separate stories where one chef in the area wanted to get into teaching and then heard who the boss chef was and said oh nvm 😬#and one chef who got hired and then quit before he could start bc he couldn't stand to work with that man#like i Know the food service industry is tough and intense and chefs have a reputation for being jerks#i Know that. and multiple people warned me of that before i started. and sometimes im like wow i was wrong i couldn't actually handle it#everyone told me i couldn't handle it and i said yes i could and then i couldn't#but is that really what happened???? bc there were other jerk chefs in that school!! and still no one could stand that ONE MAN!!!!!#we literally complained to the president of the college. and she said uwu hes doing his best 🥺#bc thats the thing with him. you think hes nice until you're in the kitchen with him. he IS nice until youre in the kitchen with him#i truly think he designed the course in order to weed out the weak ones#and ig it worked bc so many people dropped out !!!!! but like . sir. i started that program at 17 years old#a fully prepared 17 year old. a smart 17 year old. a talented 17 year old. an eager and excited 17 year old. but a 17 year old#we were learning how to COOK not DISARM BOMBS. i hope hes glad that my 17-19 year old self got weeded out for being weak.#congratulations man you broke me.#literally he gave me the worst panic attack of my life on the first day and was so mean to me bc of my anxiety and how shy i was#to the point that i finally admitted i needed to go to the doctor#and then when i started some meds. and also was OUT OF HIS CLASS. and in the pastry class. and was a little more comfortable#he wanted to take credit for 'bringing me out of my shell' 😐 and i wish i had said what i was thinking. and looked him in the eye#and said thanks its cause of the drugs.#not only were the internship hours insane but also the class hours and the graduating test#i get that the classes have to be longer bc we need time for things to cook but . 8/9 hours ??? dudeeee#obviously i didn't get to the graduating test class thing but the way he described it sounded like torture 😭#and ofc you cant find that info online before you enroll. and they only offered it in summer#so if you finished in fall you still had to wait through spring to technically graduate. assuming you pass the week long torture test

i think homeschooling should be illegal
#i think its one thing if your kid has health issues or whatever but they should still have to do like. an online charter program#i dont think parents should just be allowed to teach their kids whatever they want. i also think school is too important a safety net +#source of socialization for young kids. i dont think children should be so isolated in their homes. i think to protect the saftey of kids#they need a wide network of trusted adults outside the home. and the reason conservatives want to paint teachers as groomers or abusers#is bc they dont want anyone to have influence over their kid but them. they dont want their kid to have a safe place to turn when their#home becomes unsafe or when their views or identity differs from what their parents expect of them

If any student teachers follow me esp sped student teachers i would change your major before its too late. teaching is a joke with how admin will treat you. The year 3 burn out is real.
#if you want to teach id look into tutoring positions honestly or outreach programs or whatever#i should have stuck with accounting or hell even going into art and having an online store

omg how did u learn to video edit it’s so hard for me 😣
i took film classes all throughout high school so video editing was taught to me there! then i continued to create & edit videos throughout uni with a group of friends c: after effects i taught myself tho!!! you definitely do not need to know after effects if you’re just interested in basic editing, but if you’re looking to learn vfx + motion graphics and all that fun stuff, after effects is the way to go! it’s a bit of a learning curve but once you get the basics down you’re pretty much good to go!
#ALSO don’t ever pay anyone to teach you video editing; there’s so many incredible resources online for free!!!#+ after effects is one of those programs where you’re constantly learning#like there’s always something new to learn or to create#i rly love it and i miss it a lot#but yeah! that’s how i learned!! ae i taught myself through youtube videos HAHA#i do think it helps to have a background in basic editing first but it definitely isn’t necessary#after effects can be really fun for colour grading too if ur into that#hope ur having a great day anon!! <3#stay safe n stay hydrated#inky.bb#clari gets mail
