This panel has several references, from the flowing rose petals to the close up... But, it appears that one particular reference has already been spotted...

Do you see the resemblance between these two characters? I sure do.

I also see the resemblance between the Team Rocket pair and a similar duo in the RISE universe...so it goes without saying...

Expect to see more "Team Rocket" references in this comic. 😏 Also, in this panel alone, I was inspired by at least two other anime. Can anyone guess what they were? (Hint: Both mangas came out in the 90s with their tv shows debuting later.)

Human form Mewtwo design I’m working on as part of my Melli goes to the future/pop idol au. More information about him/his story under the cut :3

In this universe, Giovanni’s DNA was combined with Mew to create Mewtwo. He was also raised alongside Silver as a sibling, being given the human name “Mercury”. Several years after Giovanni’s disappearance at the end of (an altered version) of the events of Gen 1/2, he now works as a scientist for the anti-Team Rocket organisation, Team V (short for Vee Vee, a commonly used nickname for the Pokémon Eevee), which is the same organisation that takes Melli in after he falls to the future.

M (as he prefers to be called) is tasked with investigating the cause behind the “falling phenomenon”, a mysterious event causing the sudden appearance of people/Pokémon from the past to randomly appear all across the globe. This is in addition to his regular duties working to advance Team V’s technology, with the goal of helping people/Pokémon, stopping what’s left of Team Rocket, and hopefully one day finding and bringing Giovanni to justice.

M is a Pokémon/human hybrid, and can switch forms at will. In public, he remains in his human form to avoid being recognised, as the existence of the “Mewtwo experiment/incident” became public knowledge after the fall of Team Rocket. Mewtwo is considered a known Team Rocket asset and a dangerous bioweapon. There is a bounty for Mewtwo’s capture across the globe. While his human persona has to live with the stigma of being Giovanni’s son, after an investigation finding no evidence that he was aware of or involved in any of the crimes committed by Giovanni/Team Rocket, he was legally cleared of any wrongdoing and was free to go. His true identity is a secret to anyone outside of elite Team V members, with even the most senior Team Rocket executives (outside of those directly involved in his creation) being unaware that Giovanni’s son Mercury and Mewtwo were the same person/Pokémon.

With the trauma of being created as a weapon, being manipulated and betrayed by his own father, vast periods of his childhood memories missing, and guilt for his actions in the past, M feels immense confusion about his very existence and place in the world. He hopes his work with Team V will help him to make peace with his creation, and to help atone for his involvement with Team Rocket.

M is nonbinary/agender, and is typically referred to by he/him pronouns/masculine terms, although he doesn’t have any personal preference in how he is gendered.
