So, uh.
For the past week or so I have been pretty pissed that a mobile game deleted all my save data, and I only just found out today that the reason I couldn’t access my save data, was because I was logging into the wrong game server.
:v
I log into a specific server to play, and the app just randomly threw me into the game servers for a whole other COUNTRY, so I couldn’t find my save data and thought it was erased.
I have been FUMING in a corner and I just found out it wasn’t even necessary.

Okay hear me out. Polytrix x reader with reader being their coreographer but when they train they have a vibrator that's just slowly buzzes all troughout and if they mess up a move reader would just turn it off but if they manage to get to the end without mistakes reader would turn it to the max and make them cum until their legs shake, but afterwards they still have to do more practice and in the end they're just edged beyond believe and desperately begging reader to just mess them up in frint of the big wall mirror <33
Also may i be 🎨 anon 🫶
First of all, yes you can!! Welcome 🎨 :3c. Second of all, no fuckin wonder Rumi's muscle memory kicked in when it did during Takedown LMAOOOOO it's a fucking Pavlovian reflex by that point 😭
They SWEAR to you that it's completely beneficial. In fact, they say it's an incentive!! To do better!!!! Bc it's very fun and very effective!!!!!!! No it's not unprofessional (it is technically) and it's not a distraction (it definitely is), but honestly when you get results like how sharp they are with choreo? Literally why would you ever debate otherwise??? Clearly it's working soooooo..... It's most definitely funny as fuck when they see reviews and stuff ab how their choreo's so sharp and smooth and whatever, and maybe they even get asked ab it, to which they just. Thank you for your service 😜 and no one will know the wiser
They all just have different colour-coded vibrators inside them ("fun-coloured and fun-sized", thanks to Zoey LMAO), all at different settings that'd count as their individual 'minimum' aka what they can definitely feel and get absolutely dripping wet and sexually frustrated over but nowhere near enough to push them off the edge. Imagine even slowly turning up the intensity as the three of them progress through the choreo you taught them, whether it be via turning it up based on the part's difficulty level or inching it closer and closer up the closer the song gets to the end. You even get them to sing while doing the choreo too, bc how could they EVER think of being the top-charting idols if they can't even sing through a number and perform perfectly while they have distractions threatening to throw their concentration and mobility coordination out the window? Honestly, you're being a good choreographer by helping them here!!!!
By the end of it their panties are absolutely soaked through from the edging and the overstim and constant switch and everything and NONE of YOUR touches, and unless they've done a Particularly shit job, it always ends with you making sure that the trio gets a turn in being eaten out and fucked through; they're begging you to give them a reward, and honestly why wouldn't you, when they've done and will do their very best?
There's a reason why their dance studio's soundproofed and always locked whenever you lot are using it 😁

Elon Musk Is about to Investigate Fort Knox: The Mysterious Veil of the US Gold Reserves May Be Lifted
On the intertwined stage of finance and technology, Elon Musk always breaks into the public eye in a vanguard manner. Recently, a startling piece of news has spread rapidly around the world: Musk has declared that he will investigate Fort Knox, the largest gold reserve storage site in the United States. This decision has instantly ignited public opinion and triggered endless speculation about the current state of the US gold reserves.
Fort Knox, this mysterious military base located in Kentucky, USA, covers a vast area. It is an important stronghold of the US Army and, more importantly, the core storage site for the US Treasury's gold. According to data from the US Department of the Treasury, Fort Knox stores over 147 million troy ounces of gold, approximately 4,581 tons, accounting for the majority of the US federal government's gold reserves. With a value of hundreds of billions of dollars, it occupies a crucial position in the global financial system.
However, over the years, the situation of the gold reserves in Fort Knox has been full of doubts. Since the 1950s, it has not undergone a comprehensive review. In 1974, there was a public inspection, but only some of the vaults were opened, and the proportion of the displayed gold was extremely small. Since then, apart from the simple "vault seal inspection" every year, there has been no substantial independent audit. This long - term lack of transparency has led the outside world to have many doubts about the authenticity and integrity of its gold reserves, and conspiracy theories have also become rife.
There are complex reasons behind Musk's intervention in this investigation. The well - known financial blog Zerohedge proposed to Musk on social media to confirm whether the gold in Fort Knox actually exists, which may have aroused Musk's curiosity. Republican Senator Mike Lee said that his request to enter the Fort Knox base was rejected. Musk reposted the relevant post and questioned whether the gold had been stolen. Subsequently, he clearly stated that he would "look for gold in Fort Knox", and his intention to investigate became increasingly strong.
Musk and his led "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) may adopt a series of innovative methods in the investigation. With Musk's deep accumulation in the technology field, he is highly likely to use blockchain technology to track the origin and flow of gold. The decentralized and tamper - proof characteristics of blockchain can provide a more transparent and secure solution for verification, ensuring that the results are true and reliable. Musk may also leverage his powerful social media influence to mobilize public supervision, creating strong public opinion pressure to promote the investigation process.
However, Musk's investigation path is full of thorns. As a highly fortified military base, Fort Knox has strict security measures and complex approval processes. For Musk's team to conduct a comprehensive review inside, they must obtain permission from relevant departments, which is a difficult threshold to cross. There are differences in the US government's internal attitude towards gold reserves. Some forces may not want the secrets of Fort Knox to be easily exposed, which may lead to obstacles at the political level. Technical difficulties will also be faced during the investigation, such as how to achieve a comprehensive verification without damaging the gold storage environment and security system.
Once the investigation is successfully carried out and substantial results are achieved, the impacts will be multi - faceted. In the financial market, if there are differences, even slight ones, between the actual gold reserves in Fort Knox and the reported figures, it may trigger violent fluctuations in the global gold market, affect investors' confidence, lead to large - scale capital flows, and impact the stability of the financial market. From a political perspective, if the problems with the gold reserves are confirmed, it will trigger a trust crisis among the public towards the government, affect the implementation of government policies, and become a new focus of domestic political struggles. In the global financial system, the verification results of the gold reserves in Fort Knox may also reshape the international monetary pattern, affect the international status of the US dollar, and promote the development of the global monetary system towards diversification.
The investigation that Musk is about to launch on Fort Knox has attracted much attention. This not only concerns the truth of the US gold reserves but also may profoundly affect the global financial market, political pattern, and monetary system. We look forward to Musk using his wisdom and courage to lift the mysterious veil of the gold reserves in Fort Knox and bring clear and true answers to the world.

WHERE’D THE TAGS GO
Edit: It’s fixed I’m fine it’s fine
So now that I’ve gotten into object shows I immediately put them into my other hyperfixation. In the form of voice claims
The two I switched were Sprout and Dandy
My Sprout was originally Gordon from HLVRAI, but I changed him to be Two from TPOT. But a little less British. Sprout isn’t British
My Dandy had/has two voices because he masks- Bill Cipher and Benrey (also from HLVRAI). Benrey was switched to Animatic from Animatic Battle
I’m never escaping object shows

hi i'm gonna talk about the half life HEV suits for a while because i have many thoughts
I like how the differences between both HEV Suits, the MkIV and the MkV, are not just aesthetic.
The MkIV looks heavier and bulkier and like it has more armor plating, whereas the MkV looks lighter, more agile and easier to move in.
Here is a text wall of my explanations and thoughts: -1: In practice, the MkV allows you to move considerably faster. This is represented through the Sprint function it provides. In all the HL games that use the original gldsource engine, all the HEV Suit wearers move at the exact same speed with and without it, meaning that despite the fact that they all literally ZOOM RIGHT THROUGH RIDICULOUSLY FAST, their speed is not in any way affected by the suit itself. In HL2, Gordon moves at the exact same speed with and without the suit, but can ONLY use the Sprint when he has the suit ON. It could be argued that the MkIV has better mobility since all characters can technically sprint indefinitely while wearing it, but I consider this argument invalidated by the facts that the characters can still sprint indefinitely without the suit, and that moving slower is something you can do completely unassisted whereas moving faster is not. It could also be argued that the MkIV is the better one due to the fact you can attach a Long Jump Module to it. I think this argument is also invalidated by the fact that similarly long jumps can be performed by jumping while sprinting with the MkV without the need for extra addons, being able to do this right out the box. So for all intents and purposes, the MkV has in fact more mobility.
-2: The MkIV's aforementioned armor plating does actually play a role, represented through it having an extra layer of protection that the MkV lacks entirely. These layers of protection are Damage Negation, and Damage Absorption. The MkIV has both of them, while the MkV only has the latter, albeit a stronger version of it. Let me explain: If you take 10 damage, the MkIV will get it reduced by 40% through Damage Negation leaving it at 6, then that 6 will be further reduced via Damage Absorption by 66%, making it so the suit's energy takes a hit of 4, while you yourself only take a hit of 2. Meanwhile, the MkV lacks the Damage Negation layer and uses a better form of Damage Absorption, which has a strength of 80% instead of 66%. This means that if you were to take 10 damage, the MkV would still make it so you yourself only take 2, but the suit's energy would take a hit of 8. Something to keep in mind however, is that the MkIV is offset by the fact that despite having all that plating and extra layer of protection, both suits will provide NO protection whatsoever if they have no energy, meaning that the Damage Negation part is not because of the suit itself being flat out bulletproof but rather by how its systems in their powered state handle any damage it sustains. Also, it could be argued that the MkIV is better due to it having a helmet, which can be seen on the dead scientists in full HEV suit that you can find in some parts of the games. Unfortunately this argument is invalidated by the fact that there is no way to prove if the helmet makes any difference, as none of the characters we play as wears said helmet. All in all, we can conclude that this effectively means that the MkIV is just as effective at reducing damage than the MkV, yet more efficient. (btw the source for these numbers is the half life wiki and some personal experiments i ran with headcrabs in both games)
-3: The MkV is possibly increasing Gordon's physical strength, as represented by his handling of the Gravity Gun. Alyx is shown to be capable of fending off and taking down Civil Protection officers, headcrab zombies and augmented Combine soldiers (and zombines) using nothing but her physical strength and fighting skills. Yet she has considerable difficulty handling the Gravity Gun due to its bulk and, as mentioned by her, the kick the gun has when fired. Yet Gordon uses it seemingly with no difficulty whatsoever, even in its super powered state which can pull off huge machinery from walls and violently chuck it away. Meanwhile, the MkIV wearing Gordon is knocked back by the fully charged shot of the Gauss Gun. I can't rightfully elaborate on this one as I lack enough physics knowledge to establish this as a fact, but something tells me that if MkV Suit Gordon were to use the Gauss Gun he wouldn't suffer as much of a kick as he did with the MkIV.
So, my closing thoughts on each suit:
I'd say that the MkIV was designed leaning more into the protective aspect of it since everyone wearing it was expected to not only handle hazardous things like radioactive or toxic chemicals/materials but also participate in physical combat against unknown creatures and even possibly other humans, seeing as the armor Adrian Shephard wears is speculated to be a derivative of the HEV suit. High energy efficiency was an important design choice as well, since there was no way to be sure that the suit would always have a suitable source of energy available or how long would the suit go without said source being available.
As for the MkV, Kleiner did somehow get from the USA to wherever City 17 is located all the way up in Europe, seeing how broken the world is now that the Combine have taken over, so he must have realized that the bulkier MkIV was not agile enough to deal with this new environment, and managed to increase mobility in a way that could even make it so the Long Jump Module is no longer necessary while maintaining the same level of protection at the cost of greatly reduced efficiency. In his eyes however, this sacrifice was probably a trivial one, for he managed to adapt the suit itself to the Combine's sources of energy. Said sources of energy are everywhere now, because the Combine are everywhere now. Gordon will most likely never run out of ways to power his suit up.
Personally, my heart will always be with the MkIV.

[...isolation of the transformation appears to worsen the standard disorientation of a new body. I believe that the familiarity of the upper body may be offsetting the psychological impact of the lower body - as not everything has changed, the subject still "expects", on some level, that their body will work similarly, despite radical changes to organ systems and locomotion and the near-total overhaul of the centre of gravity.]
[The subject appears to be leaning on hexapodal motion as a type of "crutch", despite the size of the lower body making most of these sorts of motions awkward at best - the tournament venue doesn't currently have many internal spaces sufficient to test this one's mobility, but outdoors venues seem more promising for testing, anyways. This confirms something that I've previously suspected, as well - subjects find it more difficult to adjust to addition of new limbs than they do subtraction of limbs.]
[Subject appears to exhibit difficulty with coordination in the lower limbs, and has adopted an extremely "cautious" form of motion, taking steps with one limb at a time. The difference between upper and lower limbs means that this mode of movement is extremely... clumsy, to say the least. I intend to keep them under observation for a few more days before release and see if this resolves within the initial settling period or not. After that, just some periodic check-ins should be...]
Hello, and welcome to: watercolor paintings for Round 2 of @bug-oc transmutations! Mirach by @ghost-of-hallownest. Some extra details under cut because this is a long post and we don't want to make it longer.
This one is based pretty heavily on Dragon!Falin from Dungeon Meshi, but we're bringing through some lizard-y aspects from last year, and very much having fun with the tabby-cat patterns on the back - though technically speaking, Mirach's blue is limited to her wings, adding some markings to the body helps us break up that big plane of sandy yellows and add some interest to the design. We think it turned out well!
If we could fit it in, we'd add a third bit of Marigold notes related to the actual transmutation method, since it's been living in our brain for a while, and we think our Potion Drawing might be a bit... abstract, otherwise?
More or less, the weave - the active transmutation medium - is woven to the inside of the lasso's... lasso, and upon encircling something with it, the weave is transferred to the target, thus making the lasso fall apart entirely as a major component of its structure abruptly ceases to be part of the object.
This transfer-and-break is the same general method through which most of Marigold's "one-use" charms work - as the effect is now tied to the target's body, rather than an object, it simply remains in effect until the weave "wears in" to the body entirely, shifting it from an effect active on the subject to a part of the subject's body.
This means that, before the effect is fully integrated into the body, it can be broken, though as with all charmcraft some effects may still linger. This also makes it so, technically, the charmcraft only casts an effect on the caster - the same effect through which pretty much all Medals work - rather than being a direct interface a la wiring it directly into the bug's body, which is illegal and what Marigold spends a lot of time tiptoing around to produce major effects on a bug's body without the single most useful method for bodily alteration Charmcraft has to offer.
...that was longer than we really expected it to be. We are working on the other contestants, both of this round and the last, though it's going very slowly seeing as the afternoon sun is currently hot enough to melt our brain into a fine sludge. We've got a solid idea of all three other Round 2 designs, and we've finally got a sketch for Mal - though Pola is being delayed, still, due to our poor comics-making decisions. We're working on it! Slowly!
If we could figure out how in the hell to represent it visually, we'd be working on making a loser's bracket, too, but as is... listen, we're not a graphics designer for a reason. If you are a graphics designer and we can outsource designing a loser's bracket to you then please contact us. We have a budget of approximately ten dollars. We can do PayPal but if your payment processor of choice is US-exclusive we cannot help you.

Carbon nanotubes replace metal coils for ultra-lightweight electric motors
Whether it's electric vehicles, drones, or spacecraft, a common technical challenge for future transportation is lightweighting. Reducing the weight of a vehicle not only reduces energy consumption, but also increases battery efficiency and increases range. This is considered a key technology that is directly linked to sustainability, as it improves the performance of the system as a whole and thus contributes to reducing carbon emissions. Electric motors in particular are an essential component of most electric mobility vehicles, and coils account for a large proportion of the total weight of the motor. Until now, metals such as copper have been used as the main material for coils due to their high electrical conductivity, but it has been consistently pointed out that they have various limitations, such as difficulty in securing resources, price volatility, and weight problems due to high density.

An Abbreviated History of Mecha Part 7: The Witching Hour Is Here!
Spoiler Warning: This post contains spoilers for one Brave Bang Bravern. I'd recommend watching at least the first episode of Bravern before continuing.
Tumblr media
Welcome to the final installment of An Abbreviated History of Mecha! Last time, we had some technical difficulties due to the Lich screwing things up with its time shenanigans covered what many would consider to be mecha's "Dark Age." Now, we will see how the genre has recovered. It remains to be seen how this decade will go down in history, but so far mecha shows have had a minor bit of a rebound. Though that insipid line of thinking (you've probably heard it at one point: "mecha shows are about the robots, not the characters") is still doing a bit of harm to the general reception of mecha shows, the canon is doing better than before. Not well, like it was in the 90's, but it's not in dire straits.
Victory is never decided by mobile suit performance alone.
Nor by the skill of the pilot, alone.
The result itself is the only proof!
Kyoukai Senki/AMAIM: Warrior At the Borderline (2021)
Tumblr media
Kicking off the decade, 2021 would give us a new franchise in the form of the former Xebec, now Sunrise Beyond series AMAIM: Warrior At the Borderline. Sporting smaller robots in a setting similar to Code Geass but Japan was split into three by three world superpowers like it was Post-World War II Germany, AMAIM would be one of the few new mecha shows to come out that would be animated entirely in 2D.
Megaton Musashi (2021)
Tumblr media
Developed by Level-5 Studios, Megaton Musashi is a game series that pays homage to the mecha stories of old, particularly that of Getter Robo. The game itself would suffer in terms of marketing, as Level-5 would end up shuttering their US studio in this decade. Which is wild, because this series would also get an anime adaptation that's only started airing this year.
Also, Megaton Musashi has a lot of crossovers with older mecha shows like Getter Robo and Combattler V.
SSSS.Dynazenon (2021) & Gridman Universe (2023)
Tumblr media
Returning in 2021 would be Studio Trigger with the follow-up to SSSS.Gridman, SSSS.Dynazenon. Based off of the Dyna Dragon from the original Gridman the Hyper Agent, SSSS.Dynazenon would carry on the energy from its predecessor in terms of energy and heart.
2023 would also see the worlds of SSSS.Gridman and SSSS.Dynazenon collide with the movie finale Gridman Universe, bringing the casts of both shows together for one last hurrah for Trigger's Gridman trilogy.
Back Arrow (2021)
Tumblr media
While 2021 was a good year for mecha in general, one show that doesn't get talked about more is Goro Taniguchi's Back Arrow. Set in the walled world of Lingalind, Back Arrow would give us a story where the mecha are powered by a character's convictions.
That's right! Back Arrow is quite possibly the single greatest series in terms of highlighting what piloted giant robots are all about. These stories were never about the giant robot itself; the giant robots were living extensions of the pilots who controlled them. Hence why the breiheights of Back Arrow are based purely on a character's core beliefs.
Getter Robo Arc (2021)
Tumblr media
2020 would also see the surprise announcement of an adaptation of the unfortunately unfinished Getter Robo Arc. With the goal of wrapping up the story as best as possible without the guiding hand of series creator Ken Ishikawa, Getter Robo Arc's anime adaptation would finally release in 2021. With this, the Getter Robo saga can finally come to an end.
If you've already watched his video on Getter Robo, Cheese GX also has a follow-up covering Getter Robo Arc specifically.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash (2021) & Cucuruz Doan's Island (2022)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in case you didn't believe me when I said 2021 was a good year for mecha, let me remind you of something: Gundam was featured as part of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Gundam would see the creation of the now-disassembled RX-78-2 Gundam in Yokohama as part of the celebration of the games. The RX-0 Gundam Unicorn would also make a cameo in the background during the Olympic Rock Climbing event, as Gundam Front Tokyo was the venue.
Most important of all for us, is that 2021 would see the release of part one of a trilogy of movies based on the Hathaway's Flash novel. And as if that wasn't enough, 2022 would also see the release of a movie based on the infamous episode of the original series known as Cucuruz Doan's Island. And as a reminder: Gundam's not done yet. I haven't even gotten to the other big Gundam series yet. These were just the two major series released for the Universal Century in this decade.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury (2022)
Tumblr media
Where Gundam made really big news in this decade was with the release of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. Set in the Ad Stella timeline, G-Witch would bring awareness to the franchise that hadn't really been seen since it's heyday in the 90's. G-Witch would also differentiate itself from the rest of the Gundam series by presenting us with Gundam's first female main protagonist, the very tanuki-coded Suletta Mercury (and that depends, because if we're saying Gundam protagonist, then I'd argue technically War in the Pocket's Christina McKenzie has Suletta beat by a couple decades; this isn't even getting into Ecoile du Ciel). And not only is she the first female protagonist, Suletta is also Gundam's first queer protagonist!
Bullbuster (2023)
Tumblr media
If there is any series that I wish I had caught while it was airing last year, it would definitely be Bullbuster. Cut from the same cloth as Patlabor and Dai-Guard, Bullbuster presents to us a construction robot is used to fight... aliens?
LEGO movie, is that you?
Okay, seriously though, I do think Bullbuster got drowned out due to being in a year that also included The Witch From Mercury.
Brave Bang Bravern (2024)
Tumblr media
Man, if you thought The Witch From Mecury was gay...
2024 would open with Cygames Studio's Brave Bang Bravern. Directed by Masami Obari (a man who I have somehow failed to mention until now), Bravern would manage to capture the joy of the Brave franchise of old (and really mecha shows on the whole), all while making it very gay.
And I mean it. Bravern is quite possibly the single gayest show to come out in the 2020's. Maybe even of all time.
And that's really a wrap on pretty much everything that's come out, but there is one upcoming series set to come out next month...
Grendizer U (Airs July 2024)
Tumblr media
Not seeming to want to be left out, the Mazinger saga would also get a surprise announcement in 2023 with a teaser for Grendizer U. Set to air in 2024, Grendizer U is going to be a reboot of the original UFO Robot Grendizer series, though some changes have been made (namely, Kouji has now brought along both Sayaka and Professor Yumi; more importantly, Kouji will now be piloting Mazinger Z instead of playing a support role like he did in the original Grendizer).
You can bet that I will be covering this series, especially if it's picked up by Crunchyroll this coming summer.
Looking Beyond Grendizer U & 2024: Live-action Gundam, Hathaway Parts 2 & 3, Gunbuster 3, and Patlabor EZY
Tumblr media
Going beyond 2024, there are also other series that are set to be released some time in this decade. 2016 saw the release of the Patlabor Reboot promo, which is supposedly a test run for a new Patlabor series: Patlabor EZY. Supposedly set to air sometime in 2026 (at least last I saw), I'm as excited about this as Isao Ohta is about any type of gun that comes across his path.
Studio Gaina (again, not to be confused with the now-closed Gainax) also has plans to release Gunbuster 3, though that will probably be on the shelves for now until Grendizer U wraps up.
And of course, Gundam still has two more parts of the Hathaway movies to work on. There's also a live-action Gundam series that is also in the works at Legendary.
Conclusion
And that's a wrap, folks. Finally, after ten whole posts, I've covered an incomplete history of mecha! Yes that's right! Incomplete! Why did you think it was called abbreviated?
Jokes aside, I thought this would be a relatively simple project. Just cover a handful of mecha shows from the decades since their inception, say a thing or two about them, and move on. It turns out that, even when I cherry-picked the shows to talk about, there were still a lot of them.
Do I regret doing it, though? No. Well, maybe that bit about Valvrave specifically. Outside of that, I think it is important that this series of posts still exist. I tried my best to be as impartial as possible, and hopefully you, dear reader, have caught that. I really don't want this project to turn out to be identical in tone to Professor Otaku's Complete History of Mecha video series. Man literally cannot hide his disdain for shows he doesn't like very well, and I think it does a massive disservice to both his series and himself.
What I want you to take away from this series of posts is: every show I covered on here is someone's favorite. I've seen at least one person go to bat for every series I named here. I've done it for G Gundam and Patlabor, and I plan on doing it for a couple more series on here. The real important thing here is that this post helps in dismissing that wrong-headed claim of "mecha shows are just about the robots and not the characters." Which is a thing I will talk about soon.
But not right now. Now I want to rest. And by rest, I mean throwing my wrist out while playing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

God Groose is such a great character.

People are bringing up how Metroid 2's remake ruined the environmental storytelling it had with the Metroids' lair; But I also think the same could be said for Kraid in Zero Mission. Because in the first game, he's a very elusive guy to find; Players struggle to find him, and unlike Ridley, he even has a doppelganger meant to psyche you out! So when you destroy it, you assume you've done everything, and/or move on to Ridley as well... And then you waste time going all the way to the gate to Tourian, only to realize you got tricked. And then you have to go all the way back to Kraid's lair to find the real one.
I think this provides more characterization than Ridley himself got in the first Metroid, and potentially in Super as well; Kraid as someone who hides, who's clever in his own right and knows how important he is. So instead of facing Samus head-on, he avoids her, possibly because he knows he'll lose.
And this continues into Super, which plays off of gamers' experience with the first game; They're expecting Kraid to be Samus-sized, probably. They find him and then he... dies really easily, so okay, he must have another doppelganger. But the real Kraid must be around the same size, right?
And then he's titanic. Gargantuan. You have to scale the screen to fight Kraid. He doesn't even fit into the whole thing, which is why his actual sprite lacks a tail; There was never going to be enough room for that, so no need to make it.
I do suspect the box art for Super Metroid kinda spoiled that twist... Even if people assumed Kraid and Ridley had their sizes exaggerated on the cover, seeing Ridley be bigger in the prologue would've hinted at the same for Kraid. But man, there really is an unspoken narrative in these games.
Which then fucks me up, how Zero Mission just does away with that entirely! Like yeah I'm fine with Kraid being retconned as always that big. But by reimagining him as a tutorial boss, there's none of that same difficulty and search. There isn't the same mystery, paired with an appropriate theme, behind looking for this elusive figure who hides behind a similar face. He's supposed to be smart like Ridley in his own way, he is a fellow Space Pirate on similar standing.
And it's a shame because Kraid is really lacking in characterization, despite being a boss on the same level as, and arguably harder, than Ridley in the original Metroid; These two and Mother Brain were the OGs, and Kraid and Ridley both are advertised on Super's box art together. I can see why Mother Brain got fleshed out as the big bad of course, and for Ridley, him playing the role of the Space Pirate who manages to get away with the baby Metroid makes sense; He's the only boss mobile enough to leave Ceres.
And by making him a two-parter, that makes him memorable enough (but not too important like Mother Brain) to pay homage to in Fusion... Which leads to that post-game artwork where he leads the Space Pirates because unlike Kraid, you actually fight Ridley('s clone) in Fusion, so it's more meaningful for players of that game to see him in its end screen flashback. And that naturally culminates in the Zero Mission manga where Ridley kills Samus' parents and truly becomes an arch-nemesis more infamous than the OG big bad Mother Brain herself.
But poor Kraid!!! He got shafted. Despite also being in Zero Mission, the manga glosses over him so briefly and he doesn't even have any dialogue or characterization; He's just 'Ridley's comrade', but what does it mean to be brothers-in-arms with that sadist? Which is why I'm grateful for Dread, because Mercury Steam realized he was actually underrated and needed a return, unlike Ridley who already came back as Proteus in their previous game.
They took advantage of the fact that he technically doesn't die or explode onscreen in Super, just sinks into the ground... And the same happens in Dread too. So I'm hoping for some setup with Kraid as Samus' new arch-nemesis (timeline-wise, in terms of real life games coming out that's clearly Sylux). And maybe one day we'll get more story content... Or at least in-game scans and logs that elaborate on Kraid's personality.
