i love that c!rivals duo is just variations of c!techno pointing out that something is wrong with c!dream, usually something he's doing his best to ignore, and then roasting him for it.

Band au has wedged way into my brain. Take the info-dump [I have one other au that rots in my brain]

Guitarist and vocalist Tubbo who dabbles in piano as well. Techno as the drummer. Niki as the bassist. The lead singer would totally be Wilbur in my mind. Quackity being the tour manager and hype boost everyone needs.

The rival but not so rival band [all of which are either exes or dating someone on the opposite band] - Puffy as the lead singer. Ranboo as a vocalist and a bassist. Phil as a guitarist. Sally doing drums [FEMALE DRUMMERRRR]. Schlatt would the tour manager 100%.

The groups always competing but they wish the best to the others. Pettiness but actual friendships as well.

Tubbo, Tommy, Ranboo are 19, almost 20.

Niki, Puffy, Quackity, Wilbur and Sally are 23 to 25.

Schlatt, Techno, Phil are 28 to 29.

The dynamics in each band + their name.

The band with Tubbo? Ascian. It means equatorial inhabitant, a person who casts no shadow at noon.

The dynamic between this group? Tubbo is relatively the quiet one, doing whatever Tommy does. Tommy is the hyper one, the one that gets everyone into trouble. Niki is the chill one, older sister figure to the max. Techno, in the nicest way possible, is basically the fucking father in this band. Techno is the one that hypes up anything stupid Tommy does. Wilbur is Tommy's brother, and therefore a mix of heavily protective but yet also hyping up the dumbest things. [Quackity has to keep them all in line]

Tommy and Tubbo have been friends for years, ever since elementary school / 1st grade.

Niki and Wilbur are close friends, they met a few years back.

Techno acts like he hates everyone but he's fond of them.

Quackitys just..he loves them but it's hard sometimes.

The other band? Anaclypt.

Ranboos the..it's hard to describe him. He's more-so just the observer and the person that gets aggressive fairly fast with people if they piss him off. He's chill though besides that. Puffy is the mother figure honestly, she tries to keep everyone in line while making sure everything goes smoothly. Phil is the one that steps in when needed, he really just watches everything go down, cheering and hyping up people sometimes. Sally is the one that you don't wanna fuck with, she's a menace, short and aggressive. Schlatts the drunken manager that is actually good at his job.

Last section, dynamics between the groups?

Tubbo and Ranboo are openly dating. They have a friendly competitiveness between them but there are images of them holding hands and being soft.

Sally and Wilbur are exes. Bad exes. It was a shitty breakup.

Niki and Puffy are best friends in love and neither of them want to admit it.

Q and Schlatt? Exes on good terms..or neutral terms.

Phil and Techno..they don't realize they like each other but the other band members can see the looks.

Techno and Ranboo have an interesting dynamic, it'd take so long to explain it correctly so I'll leave it like that.

All in all, think of it as like friendly rivalry but also not friendly.

oooh so dream’s main weapon is his battle axe, ofc, and techno’s is a sword. techno actually has a lot more weapons, meanwhile dream just has his axe and then will use anything he can get his hands on if need be lol

as for abilities, I haven’t thought abt it too much (esp bc I’m still not 100% sure of dream’s parentage yet), but they’re both incredibly resourceful with their minds. also, techno has some connection to the gods beyond being a demigod, and this has granted him some abilities which got him nicknamed “the blood god” during the titan war.

(there are rumors that techno was offered immortality by the gods, and some rumors even say he accepted, but no one really knows).

as for dream, he’s really, really lucky. some people wonder if he was blessed by tyche or is secretly her child. also some people swear he can communicate with wildlife, but that’s probably just people’s imagination.

as for quests, the entire premise of the au is that camp half blood and camp jupiter do not know about each other (with the exception of techno having suspicions of the greeks existing). I haven’t worked out all the details yet, but techno and dream have to go on this quest together, and they can’t tell anyone else. actually, from everyone’s perspective, they seemed to have just disappeared one night (unlike percy and jason, though, they weren’t switched and they both still have their memories).

so, they’re basically put together by the gods and told to work together. cue hijinks and shenanigans.

I finished watching Transformers Animated today!! (Yes I'm still watching and plan to finish G1, but my vacations are ending soon so I wanted to watch another TF show before that, which is also the reason I started watching Transformers Prime at the same time lol. I already finished Season 1 of Prime, but that's another post for later)

And can we all just agree that Optimus isn't the responsible one for what happened to Elita One?!!

Like it was Sentinels fault for suggesting going to that planet when it clearly wasn't allowed, and Optimus wanted to get out of there and voiced that thought. And even when they already fell through that hole before the spiders appeared he once again voiced that they should get out of there. And then when Elita fell into the hole of spiders and the Energon was exploding Optimus made the logical and reasonable choice of getting away from there cause they were gonna die if they didn't. And Sentinel then putting all the blame to him for the accident, and telling this lies to Ultra Magnus, making Optimus expelled from the academy (and Optimus letting it happen cause he feels guilty about the events. OPTIMUS MY BABY YOU WEREN'T I PROMISE :(((), and still calling him a loser after all this time??!! I'm glad that Sentinel at least got to be kicked around and bullied in his scenes cause the jerk definitely deserves it and more.

I just feel for so bad for this Optimus, cause he obviously didn't want to abandon Elita, but the place was literally blowing up and after the explosion ended her signal didn't came up, so what's the logical reason? That she's offline, not that she got turned into a spider-lady!!

But BOYYYY THOSE STORY SCRIPTS FOR THAT EPISODE OF SEASON 4 WHERE OPTIMUS GETS TO CHANGE THE PAST BUT HE ENDS UP BEING THE TECHNO-ORGANIC SPIDER??!! MAN I WOULD'VE EAT THAT UP SO QUICKLY I WANT IT RAHHHHH!!!

Also I'm checking the ao3 fandom tag rn and I'm seeing a lack of found family fics of the Autobots and Sari????!! HUH?????!! WHERE'S MY FOUND FAMILY FOOD???? in another life, c!techno and c!dream were destined to be podcast bros. it would be weirdly popular considering the topics are often all over the place. they talk about writing and myths and politics and pet care but most people are listening for techno bullying the heck out of dream and then dream saying something so out of pocket that techno ends the stream right then and there.

Female Characters and the Big Sister Problem

So in this fandom we love family dynamics, and something I see pretty regularly is characters written as a family even if they didn't have that relationship in canon. When it comes to things like SBI family dynamic or Kristin as SBI's mother, some people might not even realize this isn't canon, because the trope is so strong. And now with a lot of people 3-6 years into the fandom, we're expanding the family to other characters— I see Niki big sister pretty regularly, or Niki mother. Puffy mother, Gem sister, Pearl sister— etc. And I know people are writing this because they love family and familial love— family is one of the strongest bonds many people of experience and people are writing this because they want these characters to be part of this network of love!

However, there's also a pitfall when writing canonically non-family characters into a family in its simplest form, especially to female characters, and I think some people might not realize it— so I thought I'd point it out.

One of the basic ways to write a story is you have your main character or main duo, and everyone else is in a supporting role. If your story is about one character, then often things revolve around them— around tommy, or techno, or ranboo, or grian, or jimmy— and everyone else is there to play support. Often in a family situation, big siblings and parents take specifically nurturing and caring support roles.

And when all your female characters are is their nurturing/caring role as a big sister or a mother, if that's what defines them within the narrative, or if you always write them in that way, there starts to be a problem.

Particularly when you look at canon— these characters were not in nurturing roles originally. Kristin is a powerful goddess presiding over death, Niki is defined by rage— Geminitay is out here bullying her friends and building beautiful things, Pearlescentmoon is working multiple jobs and joining revolutions. Roscumber is inventing new types of yuri daily. The list goes on. These are characters in the original with their own arcs and quirks and hopes and dreams! And every time you change someone from their canon role or characterization, that's sending a signal about how you see the character and your specific victory condition for the character. When you hold up the character to the light, are you holding up good at combat, or powerful, or mischievous, or organized competence— or nurturing care of a male character who is the centre of the real story? Are you doing this over and over again? Is the tag full of this?

And again, sometimes you don't have time to get into the background and characterization of all your side characters, that's just a narrative focus thing. But if every time you're using this character nowadays, you're swapping their canon character out for a nurturing role, that starts to message about how you see the character, and further, how you see female characters in general.

When you write a male character away from canon characterization into a nurturing support role that's one thing— the fans of that character are probably not gonna be hype but that's not like, a societal trend. But unfortunately the pushing of female characters and female-perceived people into a nurturing support role is something that hollywood has been doing since we invented film, that people have been doing since we invented stories, that society does every day. It starts to grate. It reduces women down from complex beings into the care they can provide men, and again, I don't think anyone is doing this on purpose, but when you meet it again and again in fiction, boy. I start pacing my room and muttering. It is one of the classic sexist tropes for how to write women, unfortunately. Every terrible guy in your creative writing class who got told to add more female characters does this, and boy, we don't want to be like terrible guy in your creative writing class.

So! You have to make sure your character comes alive as more than just nurturing support. If your heart is set on family, spend a little more time rotating that character. What are her hopes and dreams, and quirks and foibles? Can she contribute to the plot in a way that isn't just support of the main character? Can she provide a narrative role that isn't nurturing? Does she get to be the centre of attention and have other characterization? Can you make her really funny and scene-stealing for a scene, or show that she has a life outside of her family? Consider writing a story or an arc where she's the main focus!

Or even, I'd strongly suggest considering writing women in as not family at all. Expand that circle of influence away from the home. Does your main character have peers or adversaries or friends? Coworkers? Brothers in arms?

I think sometimes people go to family because it's a fast way to show how important a character is to a person, because so many of us think "sister" and feel that tug of affection and importance. And because people love family, which makes sense. Family is important to a lot of us! But if you can show that importance in a different way, through the narrative, you've celebrated a character you like, and you've sidestepped the pit trap hollywood is digging for us. Because boy is hollywood lining up to make this a pit trap. Movie after movie after tv show with female characters who are only there because they're family. It's as bad as the woman who's only there to be sexy, because it starts to message that the only way a woman can be important in someone's life is if they're related to them. Which is not an improvement on women are only there there for sex.

And I don't think anyone is doing this on purpose, and no one fic or au is necessarily "oh this one is sexist", but it's about the trend. When there's one fic that does this, you go "aw this person loves family". When it's every second fic that does this, you start to go— wait a minute, what's the signal being sent here. And we are unfortunately there, as a fandom. We've been there for a bit. And it doesn't mean that every female character in a family dynamic is bad characterization— women also exist in families. I am in one, in fact. Family is cool. But this trope does map so precisely to sexist writing tropes and carries so much potential narrative weight that you've got to do some quick maneuvering to avoid all that, if you're doing family.

So please, I'm begging you, when you're bringing women into the story, make sure family roles is not all your women are, or consider the joy of making them not family at all! Most people your character meets will be not related to them, perhaps your selected character is one of them.

Godspeed, may your women be complex and nuanced beings henceforth.

So Bramch was canonically in 2 boy bands in his youth, one of them being the most famous one in Pop Troll history, and both of which had to have been before Rosie's death. Idk about you, but considering how Pop Trolls are, the ultimate flex for a male troll had to be being the lead singer/leader of a boy band, which we can safely assume Branch was the leader of NSYNC's band considering the way their cameos spoke about him asking them to visit and the fact he stayed in the center of the screen. On top of that, Branch had to have been the youngest troll to ever join a boy band, seeing as he couldn't have been older than 2 when Brozone broke up.

I'm just saying the series is REALLY hyping. Branch up as the ideal Dream Boy for a pop troll to get with, and then I think to how he was literally an outcast in the first movie and can't help but laugh my ass off. Like... I bet a lot of Trolls in Pop Village that used to mske fun of him very much had expressions akin to sucking on a sour lemon when they realized Branch was Bitty B AND the presumed leader of whatever NSYNC's Troll name was.

And that's before we take the events of the movies in account and just focus on his background up until the day Rosie died! Boy had been a full on Pop Troll legend before he reached puberty and then became a hero and the best candidate for future king in later life, you can bet Poppy is gonna see this and be so damn smug her best friend/crush is such a catch and she was the only damn person to see it for so long. Like full on pointing st him and be like,

"THAT IS MY MAN! YA'LL THOUGH TI WAS CRAZY FOR TEYING BUT LOOK WHOS LAUGHING NOW!?"

Like... ever heard Skater Boi from Avril Lavigne it's gonna be a total situation like that in Pop Village when they have that concert

Classic case of "Be careful who you bully in high school"

It's not just Pop trolls, Branch has qualities that the other tribes find very attractive.

His intelligence and engineering abilities are very sought after in the Funk and Techno tribes.

Musical and composing skills are very attractive features for the Classical tribe.

The Country trolls always appreciate a hardworking, honest, and loyal troll in their community.

All those qualities together make him a highly desired troll amongst the Rock tribe.

So, yeah, Poppy might not have much competition in the Pop tribe, but she'll need to put up a fight when it comes to the others. 😉

I wanna tell you about a portrayal i love: phil being followed by crows that HATE Anyone But Phil but then techno comes around and whoops would you look at that the crows somehow like techno, sometimes even more than phil. I've seen a couple people write it in fic and i just eat it up every time.

It's so good and I love it so much! I see the crows only liking Techno (aside from Phil) in fancontent a fair bit but now I'm imagining how funny it is for them to like Techno more than Phil. Maybe mirrored by Techno's voices absolutely liking Phil better than him sometimes.

Bullied by their own respective chats but absolutely adored by the others' chat would be a funny dynamic lol
