Моя соседка в очередной раз вышла замуж. Мужиков много, а нужного нет. В этот раз замуж она вышла во Владивосток и квартиру что бы не пустовала сдала каким-то балбесам с нервной собакой. Собака то воет, то лает. Соседи то бухают, то дверью хлопают. Вот сейчас бахают. У меня на нервной почве штукатурка от стен отваливается. А ведь я только ремонт доделала. Хотя сказать я хотела про другое. Что наконец-то собрала эту троицу и хотела срочно показать. Сфотографирую прилично и сразу в эфир, а пока так. Samuel Slater. Son of a yeoman farmer was born in Derbyshire, England on June 9, 1768. He became involved in the textile industry at the age of 14 when he was apprenticed to a mill operated the first set of cotton mills in England. Samuel Slater today is known as the Father of the Textile Industry for his business savviness and his charismatic persona to push the industry to a global perspective. Back in the day's organic fabric creation began in ancient times roughly around 5000 BC when primitive peoples used flax fibres, separated into strands and woven into simple fabrics coloured with dyes extracted from plants. It has been a staple in industry, fashion, craft and decorative arts throughout the ages but it particularly made a resurgence in the 1960s back into the contemporary art world. Since then Fibre and textile arts have been developing new forms and language -becoming more conceptual and cross-disciplinary, even into this digital age.​We're are seeking works that explore (but are not limited to) the following areas: 🥻Textiles (Fibre art, Ecology, Upcycling, Craft, Natural vs Synthetic materials, Traditional vs contemporary methods of making, Materiality, Cross-disciplinary art) 🔬Technology (Fibre optics, making and machinery of modern textiles, video/film, animation, VR, 3D printing, digital responses to textiles and fibres) We are particularly interested in works that cross over between the two but this is not essential. My next test is using Derwent Inktense pencils. In theory it sounds great. Draw on, blend and shade as you go, apply water, and once dry you have a permanent finish. For my needs, I found the pencils a bit hard. They dragged the fabric, which also made the application process quite slow. Once I added the water there was quite a lot of bleeding. If I was working on a sculpture with them, that kind of unpredictability would be very unnerving. It did dry back well, and the colour bleed almost disappeared. Though it didn't adhere very well to the printed finish on the fabric. You can see that white patch, which I had coloured over, is now showing through again. As we're nearing the end of #PrideMonth and I'm working on my new pieces, I thought I'd share this mixed-media canvas I created for Pride last year! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ It was the first time I'd used paint and embroidery together, so it's not perfect, but it's hanging in my room and means a lot to me - a little reminder of the difficult year we had 💚 The hand is stitched in embroidery thread, and it sits on a painted background.
