In celebration for her fourth birthday here's Maggie fun facts uhhhhhhhhhh
She's an AU of an AU of my scrapped warrior cats sona turned original character. Magpieheart, the ShadowClan deputy who can see ghosts -> Human Magpieheart AU where she can see ghosts still -> I have a cool dream about being murdered and waking up in a future where I kept living -> Maggie, totally original OC who can see ghosts. Magpieheart lives on as one of the stray cats that lives around Maggie's apartment and is attracted by her weird soul, her name is Marge (Named by Jenna, said in a Simpsons voice, Any Simpson), hes also a male cat but none of them know how to tell neutered males apart from females so they all refer to him as a female cat. Oops. This is also the cat Maggie gives to her parents after the plot concludes as a "Sorry I got murdered" gift

Opinion on TinyLeaf’s video on Rain Code? (Specifically what they think of the characters)
I saw this ask pop up and instinctively went to go listen to the video. FYI: I haven't watched the full video; I wanted to mainly stick to your request of what TinyLeaf and Phos thought of the characters, so I watched up to the ending of that section. I feel like this video's (or at least what I've watched up to) unscripted nature really pulls down at any point they try to make about the characters they bring up. It also hurt to hear that they experienced the game with barely any audio, as the voice acting and music in this game really improves the experience, especially since this game isn't a visual novel and shouldn't be treated as one.
For a section talking about Rain Code's cast, it hardly felt like they discussed them with any greater detail. They kept bringing up characters from other games instead, making the discussion feel bloated. Their main point is that the cast is boring, but they rarely give reasons as to why they think so, with the only characters they really delved into being Yuma, Shinigami, and Kurumi. I do actually agree with their thoughts about Kurumi being bland. She really did feel like a 'nothing' character where her main purpose was to provide information unknown to Yuma when necessary for the plot. She's cute, sure, but it doesn't remedy how forced she felt in the story. As for the NDA detectives, TinyLeaf and Phos hardly spoke of them at all, Halara and Vivia being almost completely left out of their discussion. I think the point they tried to make is that the NDA detectives having their own focus for one chapter each is why they think they're boring, but that message didn't completely fall through.
If TinyLeaf is to ever make a scripted video in the future, it'll be a lot less like sifting through filler. But for now, this video serves as an opinion piece I don't really jive with. And that's fine! They needed to get out their unfiltered thoughts and feelings out and they did exactly that! But as a form of discussion, there isn't much I can really talk about since a lot of their points can be summarized as 'it was boring.'

In SDR2, Ibuki Mioda bites the dust as a result of Monokuma’s latest diabolical motive, the Despair Disease. This element, and Chapter 3 as a whole, remain controversial in the fandom. I’ve seen quite a few YouTube videos proposing “fixes” for the storyline (TinyLeaf’s thoughtful rewrite comes to mind). Many fans think the whole motive is too nonsensical to be salvaged. I happen to find it interesting, and I’d like to keep it in "I DISAGREE: An Ibuki Mioda SDR2 Protag Swap AU" … with a few radical changes of my own.
Down with the Sickness: Starting the Game with Despair Disease
First, let’s review the basics of the Despair Disease. It’s …
A motive! One of Monokuma’s ways to push ordinarily non-homicidal teenagers into concocting and enacting fiendish murder plots. I’m not sure if I’ll invent any new ones for this AU. The ones currently in SDR2 really compel me. That said, I’m definitely not just copying and pasting them. AUs are for bold rethinking, and I’d like to twist this thing around and freshen things up.
More literally, a communicable illness. While symptoms include fevers and fatigue, the standout side effect is a major reversal of the sufferer’s personality. Some say it turns people into their exact opposite, which seems … a bit simplistic, but it’s a good starting point. It might be most accurate to say that the infected is definitely not acting like themself.
Well … a bit bullshit. I agree with many of the criticisms often leveled at this plot device. The drama of Danganronpa comes from thoroughly fleshed-out characters taking desperate actions based not just on their circumstances, but on who they are and what they value or stand for. A magical personality rewiring doesn’t keep with that. Still, there’s something spicy about characters suddenly becoming different, becoming unpredictable, losing control over themselves …
So yeah, I’m keeping it for this AU. But I’m not keeping Chapter 3 intact. This most contentious of Danganronpa plot points will actually move to the very beginning of the story!
Well, almost. The beats of the beginning will stay the same, with virtually the only differences being that Mikan wakes up Ibuki (who foams at the mouth and faints from the island reveal) and they meet everyone at the beach (besides Hajime, who passed out cold). This story still needs those precious few days before things start really going downhill. Time for characters to discuss their options over communal breakfasts, explore their surroundings, and grapple with the reality of their new nightmare lives. Time for them to get to know each other … but not much time at all.
One morning, a few of them are acting out. Granted, they all still think of each other as a little strange, but this erratic behavior seems different. It’s not long before Mikan Tsumiki notices that those classmates’ foreheads are running hot, and Monokuma finally confirms that the first motive is a contagious illness. He’s stingy with details, asserting that the Ultimate Nurse and all these other Hope’s Peak smarties can figure out the details. What he will reveal is that it’ll keep spreading until another life ends through less natural causes.
What a world of difference this rearrangement of events would make! Consider: by Chapter 3, the characters (and the player) already know each other well enough to recognize exactly what’s happening with the Despair Disease. They know to be weirded out by Akane’s nonstop weeping, Nagito’s baseless conspiracy theories, and Ibuki’s mindless obedience. At this early point, (almost) no one will know what to think of their infected classmates’ behavior. Is it that hysteria is a symptom, showing differently in each person? Is it just a normal psychological reaction to an abnormal situation, exacerbated by high body temperature? Is it … something else?
That’s what Mikan and her brave volunteers, including our plucky protag, will spend Chapter 1 investigating. One change cascades into an entirely fresh chapter, and those changes in turn will affect the entire narrative.
To be clear, I’m not doing any of this to “fix” SDR2 Chapter 3. It’s not like I think I’m fixing SDR2 by recasting another character as the main! This is all a creative exercise, a writer’s playtime between the boring day job and more serious personal projects. With that said, I wonder if Despair Disease haters might get something out of what comes from this decision. I’ll share more of this story next time.

TinyLeaf also has some great vids. Here's her concept for rewriting 2-3: https://youtu.be/LaXeIz_lWpE?si=HVPQlo7NnNpfDeQS
Though she's moved on to streaming and making vids about stuff besides Danganronpa, Weeby Newz has done some terrific work about this series. Her character analysis videos are full of great insight. Here's the full playlist.
I'd love to see more responses to this thread! Video essays are virtually the only thing I watch on YouTube, and I watch a loooot of YouTube. If they can be about my beloved Danganronpa, all the better~
you know...
i think in short what i'm always getting at is that we lack Video Essays about DR from people who are still actively fans, and genuine fans at that. we have a lot of "DR is so cringe am i right" essays from antis, we have a lot of "DR is so cringe but i like it lmao don't hate me" essays, and we have a lot of "i used to like DR but decided it sucked and here's why you're bad if you like it too" essays, and tons of material from people who kind of only half-care about Danganronpa (that is: v3) from afar as a curiosity, but...
i'd love more critical views and in-depth insights from people who can look at DR with a rational kind of love. there will always be Bias, of course, and i guess "DR has its flaws but i really do love it" isn't good clickbait. BUT i'd still take it over the 507th 20 minute video on how "the fandom" (Komaeda stans circa 2016 that don't even post anymore) is "toxic" (did wild shit that 15 year olds do on the internet when unsupervised) and "the whole franchise is mid" (there was a Komaeda ass shot in the anime we all kind of ignore anyway)
...
oh and also not racist. i cannot stress how much we need to not be Racist about this. the moment you say "Japanese culture is [pedophilic]/[sexist]/[etc]" and you're named Todd and from a state where child marriage is legal and women couldn't get loans without their husbands' permission until like 1985, i'm walking away
