My thoughts on Horizons episode 100! (Spoilers ahead!!!)

Okay okay okay I’m calm I’m cool I’m chill!

I love how the kids are slowing learning how Laquium impacts Pokémon which is also causing them to gradually get better and better at fighting laquiumed-up Pokémon.

Battle strategist Dot! Love to see it!

The RVT is fully reformed and back at it! Such a great thing to have happen for episode 100.

Friede is alive!!! I’m not surprised, I made a post about how I felt there was no way he would’ve been killed off, but it’s good to have that confirmed! What’s more interesting about his transmission is what words he used. The sub I watched had Friede saying “we” and not “I” when describing what he was doing. While he could have been referring to him an Charizard, he says “Charizard is with *us*” according to the sub I watched. Now I know translations can be incorrect, and I believe I once heard that the difference between “we” and “I” isn’t always made super clear in Japanese, if he truly did say “we” and “us”, the only person I can think of that Friede could be working with is Amethio. If that’s the case, then Friede’s message was saying that he, Charizard, and Amethio have been hiding from the Explorers and studying how Laquium works for the past year. He also said that it only recently became safe for him to send this message because they could be caught by the Explorers.

As excited as I am that this message may confirm one of my two theories about what happened to Friede, it also made me a little disappointed at first when I heard it because it seemingly invalidated my other theory (which I much prefer). After listening to the message again and considering what Spinel said in the ending scene, however, I think there’s still a possibility that Spinel has captured/will capture Friede. Spinel said that “he” should have just stayed quiet, I assume “he” is referring to Friede. This means that Spinel is aware of Friede’s transmission/may have been aware of it for a while now, putting Friede in danger. While this doesn’t necessarily mean that Spinel will capture Friede, it would be a very interesting direction because it would subvert the RVTs expectations that Friede is fine, which would also leave room to bring in the “Friede betraying the RVTs” plotline that was discarded but kept in consideration to potential be reworked into something. In this case, it would be Spinel somehow brainwashing Friede into turning on the RVTs who would all assume that nothing is wrong with Friede based on the message he sent.

Sorry I got a little crazy with theory stuff there lol

Moving on, there’s something… not heterosexual between Orla and Karna, right? Like I’m not the only one who noticed this?

I love seeing Ult try his best at the RVT “handshake” thingy. It was really endearing and makes me think that he’ll grow into a solid member soon enough.

New Spinel scene! I missed our little menace to society. Happy to see he’s as evil (and pretty- what who said that???!!) as ever.

As for next episode’s preview, I’m excited to see how Liko and Roy battle against non-Laquiumed opponents. It’ll be cool to see their progress in action on a fair playing field. Also I feel like poor Ult is going to struggle figuring out people’s gender in Paldea (half of Paldea is NB coded I swear), poor kid will be so confused and embarrassed.

Family, Blood Ties and Redemption in Pokemon Horizons

I really felt for Amethio in episode 65. Spinel will do anything to get rid of him, huh? I can definitely see Amethio joining forces with the rvts in the future, either as a member or as an ally.

I want to call this a 'redemption arc' but I don't even know if that's the correct wording. Amethio is not being redeemed because he was never bad to begin with. He is a kid who has been manipulated by his own grandfather. I think this really showed during his conversation with Liko, where he said that his goal is to simply fulfil Gibeon's wishes. In addition to this, Amethio has shown numerous times to care for other's safety, regardless of whether they side with him or not (ie. When he saved Liko from Rayquaza's attacks in episode 45, and when he subsequently teamed up with Friede.) In other words, Amethio is a good person who has been taught to do bad things.

In this sense, Pokemon Horizons highlights both the importance of family and the dangers of blood ties and manipulation. The rvts are a family who care for and trust each other. Meanwhile, the Explorers are built from selfishness, deception and greed. Amethio does what Gibeon demands because he is his grandfather. When someone close to you treats you badly, it can completely bypass you because you care about them and their behaviour becomes normalised. Amethio seems to have been raised with the Explorers, so it's no wonder why he has been so loyal to them. As a result, Gibeon has been able to use Amethio for his personal gain. It reminds me of N's dynamic with Ghetsis in Pokemon Black and White.

Out of context, I found it funny how the plot of this episode was Liko and Amethio trying to get out of a cave. Whether that was a reference to Plato's analogy of the cave or coincidence, who knows. Either way, Amethio has seen the light (literally). He has seen Gibeon's true colours, Spinel's real intentions, and gained insight from Liko.

If Amethio does switch sides, I don't think this will be immediate. As he said to Liko, he is on a different path to her. Even though he is banished from the Explorers, he has still been loyal to Gibeon for so long. It makes me wonder what really happened to his Dad- did he willingly leave the Explorers or did he 'disappoint' them in the same way that Amethio did? For now, Amethio needs to decide whether he's prepared to join the other side, even if it means completely betraying his grandfather.

Kind of weird decision to give Roy, a caracther that is probrably compared to Ash the most bewteen the Horizons cast, a Mega Lucario, when Ash used a Mega Lucario himself on Jorneys. Like, just weird. There are SO MANY Megas out there, many from Roy's home region, and they give him a Lucario? Like, wtf?

ALSO, I really hope they give megas to Liko and Dot as well. Only the male caracthers (Roy and that Green Hair Dude whose name I do not remenber) having one just doesn't sit right with me. You can get so creative with how to place their Mega Stones in their designs (the bracelet looks cool, but its kind of boring)

Maybe you could give Liko a colar, to reference her pendant, but my favorite idea is placing the mega stone on her hair clip.

For Dot, idk, you could put it on those headphones she's wearing. There was a dude with a mega stone in a freaking CAMERA on the XY anime, Dot can have a mega stone on her phones

What megas they would get? Idk. Maybe Altaria for Liko? Fits her aestheatic, plus It would be a good ride pokemon. For Dot, I have NO idea

Also, I came to think, there are quite a few caracthers in Horizons have pokémon that can mega evolve:

Lucius - Rayquaza

Friede - Charizard

Orla: Metagross

Onix - Aerodactyl

Sango - Glalie

Agate - Medichan

Ludow - Sharpedo

Soooo, one more theory:

It is very much confirmed Rakurium effects are spreading accross the entire world now.

What I'm suggesting is that, Spinel has developed artificial Rakurium. One that can be mass produced. And he's testing it on wild Pokémon. That's why he's telling the public there's nothing to worry about at the credits scene when asked about weirdly behaving wild Pokémon.

The hints have been there for quite a while, with Spinel doing own research on Rakurium and all.

I also do not believe Spinel actually cared about Gibeon at all. He merely speaks highly of him to make sure he's seen as one. But he always, always, intended on backstabing the ideals of Gibeon. Now that Gibeon is gone, he doesn't need to hold back. But he has to keep up the facade.

He really is an intriquing villain character for me and I'm glad he's holding up as a very good villain. Such a good time skip design too, man oh man.

Apparently he took the position that Crave has, which means he's the director of Exceed. Wonder what that means for Crave? He's also said to be the leader of the Explorers. Obviously Amethio is not gonna follow Spinel's orders, same with Hamber, so both of them are probably forming their own plans. Maybe join up with RVT?
