The bell had just rung to signify the end of your maths class, however, you had been asked at the beginning of the class to stay behind and talk to your teacher.

You stood up from your seat and walked towards your teacher, Mr Kelly. You cleared your throat and stood in front of his desk.

"So, Y/N I expect you know what this is about." he spoke dryly, looking up at you while pushing his glasses up his nose.

You groan softly and nod. You knew this was about your grades as it was safe to say maths was not your strong point.

The older man continued, "as we both know... you have failed every test we have took this semester, which only means you will have to be tutored."

"Yes, I understand." You answer meekly, embarrassed by being called out on your mathematical ability.

He picked up on your tone and tutted, "there is no need to feel down about this as there are many tutors out there. Now of course if you don't feel like spending any money on a tutor I can contact our top student in the maths department to help you."

You nodded, "I'd prefer that," you chuckled, "I'd rather not have my dad find out I'm failing."

He pursed his lips, "okay, sounds good, I'll have you meet them in the library after school."

You smile awkwardly at him and then walk out of the class, at least you wouldn't have to study with anyone you knew very well, it would probably be one of those self-centred nerds.

Oh how wrong you were.

You walked into the library with all of your maths equipment and sat down at an empty table waiting for your tutor to arrive.

Your pen battered against the desk as you sat there impatiently. "God, can you stop that?" You looked up and gasped lightly. It was Vance Hopper.

"Don't tell me you're my tutor." You groaned, dramatically throwing your head onto the table.

He huffed and sat down across from you, "quit complaining, I'm giving up my good time to help you."

You looked up at him, "I thought Mr Kelly was getting the top student in the maths department to help me."

"You're looking at him."

You couldn't help but laugh, "you? seriously?"

"Yeah me! How is that such a surprise?" He spoke sternly, crossing his arms over himself.

"I didn't know you could read! Nevermind be some maths genius!" You laughed harder.

He looked at you straight-faced, "do you want help, or do you want to continue to be a failure."

You rolled your eyes, "well that was rude."

It's been about 2 months now since your first tutor session with Vance, and surprisingly that boy was a genius. After all the sessions you and him had started to grow a friendship.

"So Vance, my test is tomorrow!" You smiled, leaning your head onto your hands.

"Which means if you pass I can get my Thursday nights back," he tilted his head as he spoke.

"Am I really that bad to tutor?" You chuckled lightly.

He smiled at you, "to tutor yes... but you're quite nice to talk to."

His words made you flush lightly, "aw that's sweet!"

"Yeah, yeah don't get used to it." He laughed and leaned back in his seat.

You and Vance sat and studied for about an hour and a half, sharing a few laughs here and there as you worked. It was nice. If you told yourself 2 months ago that you would be enjoying Vance Hopper's presence you would tell yourself to fuck off.

As you were packing up your things Vance turned to you, "come and find me tomorrow and tell me what your results are," he smiled sweetly.

"Will do Vance."

You had gotten 87%. That is the first time you have passed a test in maths ever since you were 12 years old. You had to find Vance.

You left the class immediately after the bell rang, as soon as you left you scoured the hallways for your curly-headed friend. You speed-walked up and down the corridors, then you spotted him.

He was standing with his group of friends when you found him, you approached him cautiously, you weren't exactly acquainted with his friends.

"Vance..." you meekly spoke, causing him to immediately turn around and smile while his friends looked at you confused.

"How did you do?" He asked, looking down at you.

You grinned up at him, "I got a 87!"

His smile grew wider, "actually?" You nodded excitedly, "I'm so proud of you Y/N!"

"and you now have free Thursday nights again!" You laughed.

His smile faltered as he gazed at you, "well about that, I thought we could maybe do something tonight."

"Are you asking me on a date Vance?" You chuckled.

He made a face before speaking, "...maybe?"

"Pick me up at 6," you grinned and placed a kiss on his cheek before walking away up the hallway.

You laughed at Vance, holding onto his forearms as his feet refused to move.

Cause each time he did, he’d be humbled and forced to grab onto the closest thing as the skates rolled underneath his feet.

Your reluctant boyfriend had very stubbornly been avoiding going to the roller rink with you for the last couple weeks. Saying it was a waste of time, and other insults.

In his infamous words, “who the fuck wants to fall flat on their ass? Sorry baby, but you’re out of your fucking mind.”

You thought he was just being stubborn cause cmon, who doesn’t want to see Pinball Vance Hopper stumble around on skates?

“The hell are you laughing at?” He scoffed, looking up at you with half amusement, half annoyance. You couldn’t contain your smile at the look on his face and how the colorful lights of the rink crossed over his eyes and blonde hair.

“You look like a giraffe.” Was all you offered, trying to skate but the second you let go Vance stumbled, and gripped onto your shirt and almost took you down with him.

“Vance-“ You exclaimed, laughing as you tumbled back and landed on him, and he grunted in surprise and fell flat on his ass.

People skated past you, and it was evident in their eyes that they had to do a double take.

It was kind of an unbelievable sight, watching Vance Hopper trying to fight back a smile as his bubbly and giggly girlfriend was in the middle of his lap on the ground near the rails.

“We look so stupid- get up!” Vance tried, and you couldn’t, laughing even more. He tried not to, the most you could see was the hints of a grin forming as he turned his head to face your shoulder.

Vance pinched your side as you smacked his hand off, getting up with the aid of the railings and forcing his ass up as well.

“The shit I do for your ass…” Vance muttered, shaking his head with a scowl, and only you saw how it softened just a fraction as you kissed his cheek.

“You’re having fun with me, though. Right?” You asked, looking up at him.

Vance just stared at you, and you saw the way his eyes flickered over your face.

You couldn’t hear his mind, but if you could you’d hear the words “shes so fucking pretty- what the hell-“ and hear him stumbling and ogling.

It was blaring in his mind the more he looked, going from idea to idea of either kissing you or skating away. But this was Vance we’re talking about.

Alas, you couldn’t hear his mind. But you still smiled when he rolled his eyes, knowing no malicious intent was behind it.

He balled his fist, gently pushing your face away with his knuckles on your cheek and trying to skate past.

“Whatever, cmon. Goddamn sap…”

You laughed and followed right after his stumbling ass.

Vance is definitely affectionate but in his own way. Instead of cute nicknames, or kind words, he invites you to participate in activities he would usually do alone, like going to the Grab ‘N Go to watch him play pinball. or opening up about more personal things like his interests or home life. Though, as you get closer, he would be more open to the “normal” couple stuff.

( B ) Beauty - what do they admire most about you? What do they think is your best feature?

Vance definitely loves your eyes and your hair.

Like I mentioned a million times before, Vance struggles with expressing his emotions (especially verbally) so I totally see him just staring into your eyes whenever you guys are together. (Even though he struggles to maintain eye contact)

He also loves playing around with your hair whenever he’s bored or when you two are cuddling. (no matter the hair type bc I said so)

( C ) Cuddles - do they like to cuddle? And if so, how?

Like many of his traits, this is something that changes over the course of him getting used to a relationship. At first he’s very defensive towards any type of physical affection but over time he gets used to it and even initiates it.

I can def see him just laying his head on your shoulder while you play with his hair or just having an arm around you 24/7.

( D ) Dreams - How do they imagine their future with you?

I don’t think Vance really thinks about the future with you that much. Not because he doesn’t love you, but because he’s more of a “live in the moment guy” he adores you and would much rather focusing on you now than worrying about what’s soon to come.

He definitely sees you guys growing old together tho

( E ) Equal - are they dominant or passive in a relationship?

I don’t think Vance would be either in a relationship. He knows some things are better done by you and some things are better done by him, and he’s perfectly fine with that. But he definitely attempts to show you how much better he is at something than you are. (He almost always fails)

( F ) Fighting - what are they like in an argument? How long does it take for them to forgive/ be forgiven?

I think it depends. He is a very reactive person and I think he understands that he has a hard time dealing with his anger (or any overwhelming feeling for that matter.) This knowledge either leads him to isolate himself to avoid lashing out on you. Or (in more cases then not) it results in the classic aggressive yelling.

Either way, he tries his best to not hold grudges, he (secretly) appreciates the connection you guys have and tries to keep things from ruining it.

( G ) Gentle - How gentle are they?

About as gentle as a brick🙏 As I mentioned before, Vance tries his absolute best to keep anything from messing up the relationship between you two so at the start of the relationship he was the absolute opposite of gentle but overtime he develops a kinder and more gentle spirit (with your help ofc.)

( H ) Honesty - do they have any secrets or are they open about everything?

Vance is a very secretive person. Not because he has anything bad to hide, but because he is simply not an open person. He’s used to keeping things to himself so it definitely takes a while before he’s able to open up. Even then, it’s not anything crazy, just little facts about the things he likes and the things that go on at home. (☹️)

( I ) I Love You - how long does it take for them to say it? How would they say it?

Like I said before, Vance shows his affection in his own way. So I think it would take a while for him to say it, not because he doesn’t love you but because in his mind being kind to you is enough to show that he loves you. Obviously he would still say it back if you say it first but it would just be rarer for him to say it first.

( J ) Jealousy - Do they get jealous? If so, how do they act?

MOST DEFFF. Vance knows (and LOVES) that most people are afraid of him. So when he finally meets someone who genuinely cares for him, he is willing to sacrifice his life for them. He also doesn’t “talk things out” like how a normal person would. Anything from a weird look to an inappropriate comment from someone else is enough to get him riled up to fight. (And he wins every time bc I said so)

( K ) Kissing - What is kissing them like? Are they a good kisser?

Vance is definitely not a good kisser. Again, he’s not used to affection so all his dating/kissing information comes from whatever movies or videos he watches and whatever stories his friends tell him and his friends are probably just as inexperienced as him.

This doesn’t make him a horrible kisser though, -and after a lot of practice (make out sessions with you) he definitely learns.

His kisses are desperate, vulnerable, and full of emotion. He kisses you as if it’s his last day on earth with you and he must savor every last bit of his time with you.

( L ) Love Confession - how do they confess their love?

If I’m being completely real, Vance is NOT the one to confess first. Like I said in the Vance hopper dating hcs, despite his whole tough guy act, he is not brave enough to confess anything to anyone so you would have to be the one to ask him out😔 but it would probably be something very simple like coming up to him at school or at the infamous Grab N Go and asking him out to a movie or whatever they were doing in the 70s

Vance even finding somebody attractive just in general sense, no deeper emotions than that, feels like the end of the world to him. Like, on one hand, he knows these feelings are natural, and there's not really shit he can (or will) do about them, but GOD is it torture for him.

He hates the butterflies, the nerves, the stress-sweats, the inescapable urge to look his crush’s way, all of it. It's gross and uncomfortable, and if he could turn off the ability to feel attraction on a whim, he would.

Butttt,,,, at the same time, he is also a teenage boy. There's no way where SOMETIMES he doesn't mind maybe, POSSIBLY having a lil' hallway crush. Getting to check them out when they're not looking or seeing them outside of school; a pleasant surprise.

To be honest, it's kind of why it's rare that you're ever the jealous one. Or rather, rare that he notices you being jealous. Not that he doesn't pay attention to you, of course that's not the case. But it's also not really something he considers, you being envious, because (and this is, once again, definitely him talking), “What the fuck would she have to be jealous about?”

It's actually kinda nice having him to act as scary dog privileges. And while maybe sometimes he might get a bit too antsy, you're lucky he likes- oh, I'm sorry, in his words, "respects" you enough to cool it whenever you advise him to. Not in a - dramatic, "Stop fighting, look at me, this isn't you🥺" - way (he'd probabaly laugh and actually physically move you out of his way if you ever did some shit like that💀✋🏽), but more in a - mildly vexed, "😒🙄Don't bother with that guy, it's not worth it..." pinching the bridge of your nose and sighing - kind of way (while he might still ignore this sometimes, at least it isn't pure cringe lmao).

And to be fair, he's right in the sense that he's rather loyal, whether either of you realize it or not. Again, it's not like he's purposely going out with the intentions to woo other folks, but from time to time, a girl or two won't shy away from ogling him and even being bold enough to approach (such as you did, but that's neither here nor there so it doesn't count lol😆).

And in these moments, kind of resemblant to Finney, you can't help but be a little taken aback yourself because… Who the fuck is this girl talking to right now? With you standing right there, no less! The disrespect and audacity of these hoes…

Little thing

This is short, but it has been sitting in my drafts forever, so I thought why not. Warnings: Albert Shaw - do I need to say more? — both characters are adults!! Masterlist || Navigation || Ao3

The Grabber is confused, rightfully — in his mind, at least — so. For starters a grown woman is far from his kidnapping type. You are twenty-three, in college, and working a nine to five, but as twisted as it is, he finds the idea of corrupting you much more arousing than those little boys; you had a planned out future, something you were working to be, and he stripped it all away from you in mere seconds. 

Your tear-filled eyes drained of whatever hope they had left the moment he overpowered you, every dream and aspiration you had left, replaced with uncertainty and fear — something The Grabber never had the pleasure of seeing with those boys – sure they were afraid, but nothing compared to you. 

Your life is ruined in a way those boys would never grow old enough to understand.

He’s there when you awake in the dingy basement, watching the way you keep your eyes shut, praying to the same god that got you into this mess to get you out — he can hear the shaky breaths leaving your lips, the newfound hope that it’s all a bad dream diminishing as quick as it came. “My dove,” he starts, pulling you from whatever day dream you inhabited. “I know you’re awake.”

There it is again, the helpless look in your teary eyes. If you knew what it did to him, would you try to hide it? Of course you would, but it would only anger him to hide your pretty face — he can picture it now, using his large hands to pry them away and relish in your fear. 

He’s towering over you with that devil mask concealing the face you’ve already burned into your mind — the bottom half is blank, as if to say he’s unsure about you; a blank slate, if you will. 

The question claws its way up your throat and out of your mouth before you can even register it, “Are you going to kill me?” You force yourself to meet his eyes, which under any other circumstance you would’ve found hypnotizing. 

Your question catches him off guard, not that you can tell. He pauses to think, tapping the bottom of his blank mask: tap, tap, tap. He’s been asked this question by every victim, but somehow you have him stumped — this only excites him further. 

It’s only a few seconds of tantalizing silence before he speaks, “Not if you behave, you’re much prettier like this.” but it doesn’t ease your nerves; in fact, it makes you feel worse and he can tell. “My dove, I promise I won’t hurt you if you don’t hurt me, understand?” it’s a warning, but you nod — he sounds sincere, you reason. “Since we are on the topic,” he begins, leaning down to lift your chin higher. “I also won’t do anything you won’t like.” and there’s something off about the way he says it, not sexual but far from innocent. He is testing the waters, hoping to elicit a reaction from you, but you give him nothing more than a hesitant nod.

Tension weighs heavy in the room, breathing in itself becomes a difficult task and you’re too afraid to speak — stuck in a staring contest you’re bound to lose. 

He moves to a kneeling position, placing himself in front of you inches away. “You’re a docile little thing aren’t ya?” he teases, a shitty attempt to lighten the mood. “Usually, they’re fighting for their life and spittin on me,” a hand reaches out to grip your chin, pulling you closer to him, “but you’re being such a good girl.” 

Your behavior is odd, but he appreciates it, nonetheless, already thinking up ways to reward you.

That Funny Feeling

Let’s be honest, it would take an entire miracle for Vance to even consider you a friend, much less close enough to be a partner

Vance is an asshole when he’s provoked, or probably just when it’s THAT kind of day

And if it was you who did it even on accident?

So obviously, he’s gonna be a dick to you

Maybe it was during school, maybe at Grab N Go, hell you maybe said hi to him when he was in a mood, but nonetheless, Vance did NOT take to you at first

With Vance I don’t think it’s a “Fall in love at first sight” thing, sure he finds people attractive, but he needs to know them to even find out if they’re annoying or worthy to keep around

You fit into that criteria, but he learns that way later on

After the first interaction, he thought he successfully scared you off by him being, Yknow, Pinball Vance Hopper

But then he noticed you just kept popping up somehow. At school, probably on the walk home, Grab N Go, or just all over town

It was the small moments that built everything up I feel

A hi here and there, a smile then and again, or maybe some change for the Pinball machine when you noticed he was out

Just acts of kindness, that maybe just made him kinda warm up to you, and to you him

He doesn’t think he is even capable of thinking about someone that way, so for a very, very long time you weren’t even friends, more acquaintances

You gotta go at it slowly, and when he warms up enough, THAT is when you are just his friend, even if it is left unsaid

Being friends with Vance comes with pros and cons, and one con is his inability to express his feelings in something other than anger

So when he gets close enough to you to start developing feelings?

He probably is mean even more after, starts just rejecting your presence in hopes that the feeling with MAYBE go away
