Sonic
Maybe it should have been a mistake to let him choose the picnic spot, but he asked so sweetly, with such an adorable look on his face, that in the end, you gave in, letting your restless boyfriend decide the location.
In the end, Sonic concluded that it was a great idea to have a picnic at the top of a hill, right in the middle of the strong winds up there. But there was no complaining—you allowed it to happen.
You paused for a moment on your way up the hill, catching your breath. Looking up, you saw the top of the hill; you were almost there, but the path to get to this point had been tough and exhausting. Your eyes narrowed when your peripheral vision caught a blue blur dashing up at full speed. A few seconds later, it raced down the hill again.
Sometimes, it was hard to keep up with his fast-paced rhythm.
Gathering your strength, you composed yourself and resumed walking up the steep terrain, stepping carefully to avoid slipping or getting your foot caught on a rock.
An unnatural gust of wind rushed past you, tossing your hair up. Looking ahead, you spotted a very impatient blue hedgehog.
"Are you going to take much longer? I could have had ten picnics already with how slow you are." He flashed a teasing grin at you.
"I'm going to have to give you some lessons on human limits when we get back home," you said, still out of breath as you climbed another tricky part of the hill.
"Oh, remind me later—I forgot the soda. Be right back!"
Before you could even blink, the sound of him breaking the sound barrier echoed across the hill. You glanced back, seeing nothing but the bluish streak he left behind.
Sighing, you shook your head and refocused on making your way up the rest of the path. After a few more strenuous steps, you finally reached the top of the hill, letting out a satisfied murmur as you reached your destination.
Your eyes immediately landed on the picnic blanket your speedy boyfriend had laid out and the basket of snacks he had prepared.
Once again, that familiar breeze hit your side. Looking to your left, you saw Sonic standing there, holding a bottle of soda.
"So? Do you like the place?" He gave you a warm smile.
"Aside from the fact that I nearly passed out getting up here..." Your eyes scanned the location, taking in how breathtaking the view was from up there. "Yeah, I love it. It's an amazing spot. Thank you, love."
"No problem, babe. Now sit down, let's eat—now that we’ve got the drinks too."
He eagerly walked over to the blanket, sitting at one end. You followed, settling down beside him.
"What did you bring?" Crossing your legs and resting on your arm, you curiously scanned the basket, already guessing what he had packed.
Sonic pulled out some simple white porcelain plates, placing them in the middle of the blanket. Then, buzzing with excitement, he took out a few chili dogs, carefully setting them on the plates. Next, he pulled out a container of fries, placing them in a deeper dish, along with a ketchup bottle beside it. Finally, he brought out a few homemade heart-shaped cookies.
"Did you make these?" Your eyebrows lifted in surprise.
"Hm? I wanted to do something nice for my gorgeous girlfriend. I hope you like them... And I swear I didn’t accidentally go overboard with the flour—it was totally intentional." He gave you an amused grin.
"I'm sure they'll be delicious, even with your questionable culinary skills." You nudged his shoulder playfully, making his mischievous smile turn into a small smirk.
"That's because you haven't tried my specialty yet—Gourmet Burnt Instant Noodles." He raised a hand dramatically, as if to glorify his disastrous dish.
"Hmm, sounds divine. How about making it for dinner tonight? I have some leftover food poisoning medicine in the cabinet, so we can enjoy it worry-free."
You both laughed at the playful banter. Leaning in, he pressed his forehead against yours, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear.
"Let’s eat the chili dogs while they're still warm. I made everything with care for you."
--*--
You chewed on one of the last fries, grabbed another, dipped it in ketchup, and ate it. By now, after a while, the strong wind at the top of the hill had turned into a pleasant breeze, making the whole atmosphere much cozier.
Beside you, Sonic stretched his arms above his head.
"Well, that was a great meal... Now for the best part!"
Without hesitation, he practically threw himself into your lap, closing his eyes and placing his hands behind his head, fully enjoying how soft your thighs were.
"Now this is the life," he sighed in pure satisfaction.
"I didn’t know you could actually stay still," you teased, taking a sip of your soda.
"Well, only when it's worth it." He grinned, shifting slightly to get even more comfortable in your lap.
Your hand instinctively reached out, running through his soft, blue fur in slow, soothing motions.
Your fingers drifted toward his fuzzy ears, tracing circles around them. Immediately, you felt his body tense slightly, his fur subtly bristling.
"Careful there, babe, you know that's a weak spot..." He cracked open one eye to glance at you.
"I know, that’s why I’m doing it." Your eyes sparkled mischievously.
"Oh, you’re asking for payback, princess..." He smirked, flashing one of his fangs.
You laughed, deciding to play it safe and return to simply stroking his fur. He let out a soft chuckle, relaxing again and closing his eyes.
However, at that moment, your gaze locked onto something beside you—a stray bird feather lying on the picnic blanket. A mischievous smile crept onto your lips as you set your cup aside and reached for the feather.
Taking a deep breath to suppress your laughter and avoid giving yourself away, you brought the feather close to his nose, gently brushing it against his nostrils.
Sonic’s immediate reaction was to scrunch his nose, twitching it in confusion at the unfamiliar sensation. One of his hands moved from behind his head, lazily rubbing at his nose with the back of his hand. At that moment, you pulled the feather away, letting him scratch.
Just as he thought the itch was gone, you brought the feather back, swiping it quickly across his nose.
His nose twitched again, his expression contorting as he turned his head to the side, sneezing lightly before rubbing his nose against his arm. When he settled back down, his eyes snapped open, locking onto the feather in your hand and the mischievous glint in your eyes.
"My girlfriend is feeling extra playful today, huh?" His voice was low and amused. "I hope you’re ready for a counterattack..." His gaze narrowed.
"And what exactly are you going to do?" You challenged, curious to see what he had in mind.
However, your eyes widened in shock when his muzzle brushed against your thigh, and you suddenly felt his fangs graze the soft skin of your leg, sending a shiver up your spine.
"Hey! What are you—" Your gaze shifted to one of indignation as you raised your hands to stop him.
But you weren’t fast enough. A playful chuckle escaped him as he nipped you again.
"I warned you, babe..." He pulled away quickly, dodging your hands as you tried to stop him. "Now it’s my turn..."
Before you could react, he lunged at you, this time playfully nipping at your side over your shirt.
"You little—" You laughed, the sensation both surprising and ticklish as his teeth grazed your body.
"Sonic, I don’t have fur to hide your little bite marks!" One of your hands gripped his shoulder while the other supported you from behind, keeping you from falling as he got closer.
"Perfect..." He pinned you down, placing a hand on either side of your body. His face hovered close to yours as he pressed a small kiss to your chin. Then, his muzzle tilted up, and you felt the warmth of his lips on yours, the soft fur brushing against your skin in a mix of tickles and gentle caresses.
Your eyes instinctively fluttered shut, but the kiss was brief. He pulled away, stealing one last peck before gazing at you with an intense, love-struck expression.
"Now, I plan to resume my peaceful nap on your lap, babe. And if my girlfriend tries any more tricks... I’ll retaliate with more than just little bites."
You chuckled softly as he looked at you with hooded eyes, utterly smitten.
"Is that a threat or an offer?"
"It's up to you..." So, he went back to lying peacefully on her lap, closing his eyes and relaxing in that late afternoon.

Shadow
When you asked Shadow where he’d like to have the picnic, at first, he remained silent, lost in thought with his arms crossed, until he finally opened his mouth slightly to respond.
"I know a place..."
And so, now you were walking peacefully through the flower field, your silent boyfriend at your side, attentively accompanying you. He carried the towels and the picnic basket, searching for the best spot to set everything up.
Shadow was always very considerate, never letting you carry heavy things or anything like that. He also never left you behind while walking—he patiently followed your pace, wearing the same grumpy expression as always.
But deep down, he was loving every second of it and would do anything to have more moments like this with you. In a quiet and peaceful place, without worrying about others judging your relationship or interrupting your date.
"This looks good." The black hedgehog stopped in front of a small clearing, a little distance from the thicket you both had walked through. With your help, the cloth was soon spread out on the ground.
Shadow then sat down on the blanket, and you followed, sitting beside him with your legs crossed.
"I brought something for you..." With somewhat hesitant movements, he reached into the basket and pulled out a gray container. As he opened it, the wonderful scent of salmon with cream cheese filled the air, revealing that Shadow had apparently prepared them himself.
"You made these?" You smiled at him.
"Yes..." He looked away for a second. "Rouge said you’d like this recipe."
"I loved it, and I’ll tell you, if you keep cooking like this for me, I’ll end up falling even more in love with you."
Lowering your body, you placed a gentle kiss on his forehead, making him close his eyes momentarily and let out a quiet hum of approval.
Wanting to reciprocate, he leaned in and brushed his lips against your cheek before pulling back.
"There’s more." He continued unpacking, taking out a jar of coffee beans, a thermos of coffee, and finally, a plate with two mouth-watering pieces of chocolate cake. "I didn’t make this one... but someone insisted on making it for me to bring you."
"Care to tell me who?" You crossed your arms.
"I don’t reveal my sources..."
"I figured. But at least the cake looks good."
Shadow let out a quiet, appreciative hum, placing the plate alongside the other items.
"You can start eating now..." The hedgehog said, sitting with his arms crossed beside you, watching you intently.
"Aren’t you having anything?"
"After you." Shadow replied briefly, keeping his gaze on you.
A small smile formed on your lips as you reached for one of the salmon onigiri, bringing it close to him. Shadow raised a hand in a gesture for you to stop.
"I’ll eat later... Enjoy as much as you want first."
Growing impatient, you leaned closer to him, lowering your body to his level. In a sudden movement, you playfully nibbled his sensitive ear, making him let out a brief, quiet gasp. His ears instinctively twitched back, and his shoulders tensed.
"Why did you do that?" He raised an eyebrow.
"I’ll do it again if you don’t take the onigiri."
Shadow stared at you in silence for a few seconds. Then, making a decision, he uncrossed his arms, reached for the onigiri, and took a small bite, closing his eyes as he chewed.
He remained silent while eating, and you just sat there, frozen, admiring how your tough boyfriend now looked like nothing more than an adorable kitten. Every time his jaw moved to chew, his ears made a short, subtle twitch to the sides, making the scene the most precious thing in the world.
"Is there something on my face?" He asked quietly, running a hand over his face, trying to wipe away whatever you were looking at. You just laughed.
"No, Shadow, there's nothing but the adorable face of my boyfriend."
It was noticeable that he froze for a split second at your words, possibly blushing, then, letting out a small "hmph," he went back to eating his onigiri.
He was the cutest thing in the world.
--*--
After eating, you were sitting with your legs stretched out, supporting yourself with one hand while the other held a cup of coffee, enjoying the caffeine after the delicious chocolate cake.
Your gaze was focused on the surrounding flower field, so much so that you didn’t notice the soft rustling of fabric approaching until you felt his fur and soft quills press against your thighs.
Looking down in surprise, you found none other than Shadow. His eyes were closed, arms crossed, and his ear twitched slightly to the side, picking up a nearby sound while he breathed peacefully. He had nestled himself comfortably, using your lap as a pillow, resting his cheek against your thigh.
Unable to resist, your hands began tracing over his black and red quills, feeling how soft and relaxed they were now—a stark contrast to when Shadow was in defensive mode. In fact, running your hands through his quills was now more soothing for you than for him, and you were sure you’d end up falling asleep sitting up if you continued.
Sighing softly, you watched his face. That’s when an idea popped into your head. Turning slightly, you reached for a small white flower, plucking it from the stem and gently placing it between his quills. And suddenly, you had fallen in love with the idea of covering his quills in flowers.
Over time, Shadow began to notice that your touch on his quills was no longer just stroking. Confused, he opened his eyes and turned slightly to glance back at you.
"What are you doing?" He asked quietly.
"Decorating you." You smiled, continuing your work of placing tiny flowers along his quills.
"Hmph." He turned back, closing his eyes and settling in again. "As long as this stays between us..."
"No problem, Rouge will be the first one I tell." You teased.
Immediately, Shadow lifted his head, sitting up again to look at you. In the process, some of the flowers fell off, which you quickly picked up to put back on him later. Shadow sat beside you, facing you directly.
"No one is supposed to know about this..." He took your hand, picking up one of the flowers you held and carefully tucking it into your hair. You felt your face warm slightly.
"Relax, love, this stays just between us..."
Nodding at your words, he once again laid his head on your lap, resting a hand over your knee while pressing his cheek back against your thigh.
Not wasting a second, you lowered your head to him, kissing his forehead and trailing soft kisses along it, feeling his soft fur against your lips. Then, your lips hovered near his ears as you took a deep breath deliberately against them. He tensed immediately, a shiver running down his spine.
"Careful, [Y/N]. Don’t tease me..." He warned without opening his eyes.
Laughing, your lips neared his muzzle.
One of his eyes slowly opened, gazing at you. His hand gently squeezed your leg as a silent warning, but you didn’t stop, continuing to play with your boyfriend.
In a swift motion, catching you off guard, one of his hands flew to the back of your neck, pulling you close, pressing your face against his. Shadow turned his head at the same time, capturing your lips in a passionate kiss before pulling away shortly after.
"I warned you, and I won’t say it again... If you keep this up, I won’t hold back."
Now blushing, you let out a soft laugh before returning to delicately placing flowers in his quills again.

Silver
Since you asked him to choose a place for a picnic, Silver had been extremely excited, thinking about all the possibilities, all the wonderful places where he could enjoy nature with you.
Now, he was walking beside you, delicately holding your hand while carrying the food basket and the blanket with his psychokinesis. Silver smiled a lot and walked confidently through the plain he had chosen. The field was vast, with a pleasant grove in the distance and a mountain nearby. The white hedgehog wanted an open and peaceful place like this—it was perfect for him.
"I think this spot is great for setting up the blanket, don’t you think?" He suddenly stopped, looking around, noticing that the area didn't have tall vegetation, had soft grass, and offered a good view of the surroundings.
"It looks good to me, let’s set everything up then." He let go of your hand, using his powers to place the blanket on the ground. You knelt down, carefully adjusting it, and then he placed the basket at the center of the blanket.
Finally, the two of you sat down side by side, and Silver reached for the basket, pulling things out. He began taking out his tupperware containers.
"I made those berry pancakes you like. I hope they’re still warm." He placed the container on the ground and opened it. The sweet and appetizing scent of pancakes filled your senses, making your mouth water.
"They smell amazing. I love the way you make them." Silver chuckled.
"I'm happy that you already like them before even tasting them. I also made this." He pulled out a small plate with some pastries.
"You made scones?! I’ve always wanted to try them!" Your eyes sparkled at the sight of the treat being placed on the blanket.
"Yeah, I know, that’s why I looked up a recipe online and made them. I heard you mention them that time." He reached out, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear.
"You’re such a thoughtful boyfriend..." You leaned in slightly, giving him a quick peck on the cheek, making him blush lightly.
"Anything for you, my love." He smiled softly, taking out the last item from the basket—a bottle of iced tea he had also prepared. "Well, what are you waiting for? Feel free to enjoy everything!"
Silver said excitedly, picking up one of the scones and bringing it to your mouth. You were surprised by the gesture but opened your mouth, letting him feed you.
"Hmm, this is really good. You have a special talent for making sweets, Silver." He scratched the back of his neck at your compliment.
"It's nothing much, I just put a lot of love into what I make." He took your hand in his, gently stroking it with his thumb.
"Well, let’s not waste these delicious treats, right?" You reached for another of the pastries.
--*--
After eating, the two of you were sitting side by side, enjoying the peach iced tea he had made. He took the last sip from his cup, then looked at you attentively, noticing you were sitting cross-legged.
"Hey, [Y/N], do you mind if I lay on your lap?" He looked at you hopefully.
"Of course, love, you don’t even have to ask." You adjusted your position, making space for him to lie down, supporting yourself with one hand on the ground.
Carefully, he rested his head on your lap, wrapping his arms around your waist, snuggling against you. Instinctively, your hand began to trace his quills gently, feeling how soft they were at the moment.
"Your hand is so warm..." he murmured sleepily, his breathing becoming slower as he drifted off under your gentle touch.
Your boyfriend was adorable like this, lying on your lap, hugging you, unconsciously hiding his face against your stomach as he breathed peacefully. However, you couldn't resist teasing him a little.
Your finger traced soft circles on his forehead, then moved to stroke the fur on his muzzle. Leaning forward slightly, you placed a gentle kiss on his forehead, making him stir a little, though he kept his eyes closed. A small smirk formed on your lips.
"Silver... you’re drooling..." you whispered to him.
Immediately, as if he had been electrocuted, he sat up with wide eyes, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
"W-WHAT?! I wasn’t drooling! I—" He paused when he saw your teasing smile, raising an eyebrow.
"It was just a joke..." Laughing, you leaned in, capturing his lips in a quick kiss.
"You’re so mean, you know that...?" His expression softened, and a sly smile began to appear on his face.
He started to lean closer, his half-lidded eyes locked onto yours. His hands gently rested on your waist at first but soon became firmer. He playfully nibbled at your chin before trailing his lips up to meet yours, murmuring softly.
"I could make you apologize for scaring me right here..." His hands caressed your waist, one of them sliding to your back, pulling you closer to his smaller frame.
Nipping at your lower lip, he pulled away, his face now completely flushed beneath his fur. Clearing his throat, he said,
"I’m going back to napping... don’t scare me again..." He left the warning in the air before settling back onto your lap. His hand brushed against your thigh, feeling the softness of your skin against his fur.
Letting out a small sigh, he wrapped his arms around your waist once again, curling up on your lap and drifting off to sleep with his face buried in your stomach.

Scourge
When you told him to find a nice spot for a picnic, a wide smirk appeared on his face as he thought about the various places he could take you for a pleasant afternoon.
In truth, you were a little afraid of the location he might choose—who knows if it would be somewhere bizarre or outright forbidden, knowing Scourge’s personality.
However, to your surprise, your boyfriend picked a suitable and cozy spot for the picnic.
The green hedgehog stopped in front of a flowing river, looking around and analyzing the shade of the tree with a critical gaze to see if it was truly comfortable.
After huffing in satisfaction, he turned to you. "This spot’s perfect, babe. Let’s set up the picnic here."
He crouched down, grabbing the blanket and spreading it out in the tree’s cool shade before taking the basket and sitting at one corner of the white cloth. You followed suit, settling beside him.
Almost instinctively, his hand reached for your waist, pulling you closer to his smaller frame. Scourge lifted his sunglasses to look at you fully.
"You’re a princess every damn day, but today, ya look like a queen." He flashed a smirk, his eyes admiring you.
You chuckled.
“What are you hoping to gain from this?”
"A kiss?" He grinned, showing his sharp teeth.
“You could’ve just asked directly.”
Chuckling softly, you leaned to the side, pressing your lips against his, feeling the ticklish sensation of his muzzle’s fur against your skin. He tightened his grip on your waist slightly but quickly broke the kiss.
"Look what I brought for ya, babe." he said, reaching into the basket and pulling out some containers with the snacks he had prepared.
First, he pulled out two cans of energy drinks, setting one near you. Then, he took out a container with a few slices of pizza.
“Is this what’s left of last night’s pizza?” You raised an eyebrow.
"I call it makin' the most of every bite. I don’t wanna waste it. Besides, day-old pizza’s the best kinda pizza." He grinned, reaching for the last item.
Pulling out a large bag of nachos, he placed it beside him. Lastly, he grabbed a sealed container filled with dip.
"Babe, I was thinkin’ ‘bout what would be cool, an’ I found a guacamole recipe. I’m not big on this cookin’ stuff, but it didn’t take much effort. It'll go great with the nachos."
“Well, I’m glad you at least put in the effort, love.” You smiled at his subtle gesture of love.
"All for ya, babe."
He let go of your waist, opening the nacho bag and the guacamole container before dipping a chip into the sauce and taking a bite.
“So, do you like what you made?” You grabbed a nacho as well, dipping it into the guacamole.
"It actually tastes better than I expected." He chuckled, picking up his energy drink and opening it. "Hope ya like it, princess."
--*--
After finishing the nachos and guacamole, Scourge stretched his arms, letting out a yawn.
"Babe, I feel like takin' a nap."
He turned to you, lowering himself and resting his head against your crossed legs. He nuzzled his muzzle against your thigh, pressing a small kiss that sent a shiver down your spine. Then, he lay back, placing his arms behind his head, enjoying the serenity and the soothing sound of the river beside you.
"Ya love when I lay on your lap, don’tcha?" He teased with a smug expression.
“I don’t mind it at all.”
Your hand started tracing his quills, feeling each one under your fingers—surprisingly soft, probably because he was relaxed and with someone he trusted.
"If ya keep runnin' your fingers through my quills like that… I’m either gonna fall asleep…" He paused, and when he spoke again, his voice was lower and husky. "Or do somethin’ crazy…" A wide grin spread across his face.
You just huffed playfully, letting him tease you all he wanted.
Then, a mischievous idea popped into your head. Innocently, you continued running your fingers through his quills, but one hand silently moved away, creeping toward his nose. Before he could notice, your fingers pinched his nostrils shut, cutting off his airflow.
Scourge’s eyes immediately snapped open, and he shot up, gasping for air. He turned to you, his expression first shocked before shifting into something more mischievous. He grabbed your wrist.
"Ya seriously got the guts to mess with me while I’m relaxed, babe?"
He leaned in dangerously close. You swallowed hard, anticipation building over his next move.
“W-wait—!”
You barely had time to finish your sentence before you felt your back hit the blanket, his weight pressing down against you.
"You’re such a naughty girl…"
He captured your lips once, then twice, his hands pressing against your ribs while his knees pinned you down, one on each side of your waist, preventing any chance of escape.
"Blockin’ my air like that…"
He kissed you again, then trailed open-mouthed kisses down your throat, purposely grazing his teeth against your sensitive skin, asserting dominance.
“Scourge…” You managed to whisper softly.
"Babe… Be careful with these lil’ provocations…" He chuckled, pulling away and grabbing your hands, helping you sit back up.
"Let’s enjoy the place for now…"
He kissed the back of your hand before once again lying back down on your lap, his quills brushing against your skin as he got comfortable.
"Don’t tease me again, or I swear I won’t hold back." He smirked before closing his eyes, drifting off to sleep again—leaving you completely flustered as you watched his relaxed features while he slept.

The way I loved you - Shadow's version
*A.N: sorry, I got lost reading some ff
Tumblr media
"He is sensible and so incredible And all my single friends are jealous."
"Look at these beautiful flowers!" said Amy. "You have to tell me your secret, Sonic isn't the most romantic guy, ya' know" You were sitting in the living room of your apartment; it was small but cozy. There were plants in every corner, and despite the little time you had to settle in, you felt comfortable in this new house.
"And it's like, I couldn't ask for anything better," you said with a shy smile.
"That's fabulous! I'm so happy you gave yourself this chance... you know, since..."
"I know, I feel good, but I want to take it slow."
"And I feel perfectly fine."
When Amy left, you let yourself fall back onto your bed, in fact you didn't really feel fine. You missed him, you missed every moment. You couldn't blame Amy, you were too good at hiding your feelings. Only someone who knew you perfectly would notice you weren’t... happy. Actually, you didn't feel anything at all.
"... And it's 2 a.m., and I'm cursing your name. So in love that you act insane, and that's the way I loved you."
Every night, just before closing your eyes to sleep, you could feel his breath, his presence hadn't left you for a second in the last three months. Even though you didn't see him anymore, it was as if his memory was buried in your mind, like his image was tattooed on your heart, a mark you couldn't erase, one you didn’t want to erase. It hadn't been long since you met Dylan. He was actually nice, you'd bumped into him at the cafeteria, and he accidentally spilled your latte. After a thousand apologies, he offered to buy you a new one. You’d been hanging out three times, counting today, but when you told your friends about it, they were more than happy to see you back in the game.
"He respects my space, and never makes me wait, and he calls exactly when he says he will."
You checked your latest messages. Dylan had written "Goodnight and have fun, beautiful," after you mentioned you wouldn’t see him and would instead spend time with the girls.
"He's charming and endearing, and I'm comfortable."
"I'm comfortable," you said aloud, but when you were alone, hundreds of memories haunted you. Memories of when you had been so happy, loved like you never thought possible, cried, and suffered, but you did it all by his side. There he was again, always occupying your thoughts. At 2 p.m., when you had lunch, and again at 2 a.m., when you woke up startled by nightmares where you lost him over and over. You turned your phone back on, scrolling down to the bottom of your messages, and found his conversation. You read again the last message he had sent you: "I'll be late," with the date on the day you decided to move on with your life without him.
"He caused all of this. So… why do I feel like this?" you thought. You couldn't stop looking at the screen, hoping, wishing there was something more, that he had done something more. Suddenly, his status changed, he was online, and dots began to appear on the screen. He was typing. After three months of silence, he had finally reached out to you… your heart raced so fast you felt like it would burst out of your chest. The excitement, anxiety, fear, and anger were trying to take control of your body all at once. But when the dots disappeared, and his status went offline again, everything collapsed.
"Breaking down and coming undone, it's a rollercoaster kind of rush. And I never knew I could feel that much, and that's the way I loved you."
The next morning, you bumped into Dylan on your way to work. You talked about the weather, your outing with the girls, and his job. Dylan loved his job as an IT agent for GUN and loved to talk endlessly, something you weren’t used to. You limited yourself to nodding and smiling while he told you about the latest update he'd made to the criminal profiles platform at GUN.
"He can´t see the smile I'm faking and my heart's not breaking 'cause I'm not feeling anything at all."
As you walked through the GUN facilities and passed by the training center, memories flooded your mind. This time, you both had fought, but you didn't quite remember why...
You walked out of the training center, both fists clenched until your claws dug into your palms. You were upset, he hadn't respected the agreement to let you work, and his only defense had been, "You're not strong enough for this task, sorry." Once again, underestimating your abilities, even though, thanks to your effort, the last two missions you'd worked on together had gone wonderfully, and your colleagues praised your persistence. Of course, he was the team captain, and you didn’t expect different treatment just because you were his girlfriend; you simply expected him to start noticing your potential.
"And you were wild and crazy. Just so frustrating, intoxicating, complicated. Got away by some mistake and now..."
"Stupid hedgehog," you muttered under your breath as the raindrops began to soak your body. The wind soon picked up, and what started as a small breeze had turned into a storm. You had to turn back, or you'd end up sick, and they'd send you home. Just as you were about to go back, you heard someone calling your name. It was him, standing a few meters away, his dark fur soaked, and every quill dripping. His chest fur, once fluffy, now seemed flat due to the water.
"If you're here to scold me again, keep it to yourself. I was about to go back." In a second, the hedgehog was right in front of you.
"I'm sorry," you heard him murmur. "Don’t disappear like that again." Something in his voice made your wall of anger break. There, in the rain, with his face drenched and his red eyes, now dimmed, just inches from yours, made him look so... vulnerable. "No… I didn’t mean that you can’t do it, it’s just that… thinking of you, alone, out there… no, no..." he stammered, looking away. You had never seen him like this. You were so used to his strong, disciplined personality. Worry was not a word you associated with him, but now you realized he was worried about you.
"Hey," you said, gently caressing his face. "It's okay, I’m here, and I’ll be fine because I’ll have the best captain to guide me" you smiled at him.
"The best captain?" he asked, his crimson eyes regaining their sparkle as he raised an eyebrow.
"Of course! Sonic doesn’t do things as badly as you think, and... we have you too," you joked, earning a snort from him. You smiled as he closed the distance between you, pulling you into an embrace. The surprise was evident in your eyes. You knew he hated public displays of affection, especially at work. He didn't want people thinking there was favoritism towards you. He tightened his embrace as he felt your body shivering because of the cold, moving his face close to yours placing a soft kiss that contained everything he couldn't express.
"I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain and It's 2 a.m., and I'm cursing your name. I'm so in love that I acted insane, and that's the way I loved you."
"Hey! Moon!" someone called, snapping you out of your thoughts. As you returned to the present, you found yourself staring at the training center. Dylan had his hand in front of your face, trying to get your attention. "Where did you go?"
"Ah... it's nothing," you said, scratching the back of your head, your cheeks still flushed from the memory. "See you later, Dylan." You walked towards the main offices, trying to avoid making eye contact with anyone else and trying to avoid running into him. When you reached the elevator, you heard a ring—a new notification. You quickly pulled out your phone and found a message. It was a simple interaction, just 3 words put together, but it was enoght to make your heart begin to beat again, as if waking up from a deep sleep.
Shadow: Hey
"Never knew I could feel that much and that's the way I loved you."

Memories (Shadow x Reader)
Pairing: Shadow the Hedgehog x Reader (gender neutral) → Can be read as platonic or romantic Word Count: 3.4k T/W: loss, mentions of death (previous to story) Summary: It's New Year's Eve and life has been quite peaceful for the last few months following Dr. Eggman's defeat (again). You work up the courage to invite Shadow over, but he seems to be a bit distracted...
Tumblr media
SQUEEE- the marker squealed as another day was crossed off the paper calendar hung on the wall in the hallway. The end of the year had come much sooner than Shadow expected. It felt as though most of his days blurred together, the mundane routine turning his concept of time on its head. At one point in his life, he had longed for the same sense of normalcy that Rouge had mentioned long ago. But this? This was torturous. He replaced the cap of the pen and hung it back up with the calendar before moving into the kitchen of his apartment with a great deal of reluctance. He had yet to go grocery shopping, making his usual routine of finding breakfast somewhat more adventurous than he had the energy for this morning.
Rouge had urged for him to rent the apartment and get his current job following their efforts to put a stop to Robotnik’s world ending plans. “I think you are long overdue for a taste of normal life Shadow,” Rouge had cooed at him.
He scoffed at the memory, taking in the view of his living space as he exited the kitchen with a sad bagel topped with cream cheese (making a mental note to stop by the corner store to grab something to fill him up a bit). His apartment wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t anything grand either. His living room could fit a single, plush couch across from a TV, record player, and his plant. The walls were lined with records that were regularly rotated out every week. He had direct access to his small breakfast nook and kitchen due to the open layout, which he enjoyed. It allowed for him to sit and enjoy his music as he ate or cooked. The hallway led to his room, office, and bathroom, all neat and tidy in their own respective manners. It was comfortable for him, mostly due to never expecting any real company over.
The size of it also meant that rent was cheap, which was good as all of his paycheck from the cafe only had to go towards every day living expenses (at the behest of a certain bat, once again, advising him to save his payout from their more intensive work). Shadow couldn’t deny the merit of her words; the higher paying work had slowed down significantly. Preventing world domination for the upteenth time seemed to discourage others from another attempt too soon.
Shadow finished his breakfast and headed toward the front door, slipping on his shoes before starting his commute to work which was only a short walk from his place. He let out a long sigh as he locked the front door behind him, nearly running into you as he turned toward the stairwell.
“Oh! Uh- Sorry, Shadow. I didn’t see you there,” you stuttered, embarrassment dripping from each word. You had been neighbors for a few months now, excited and yet intimidated by the proximity you had with him. It was simply chance that you two had even met in the first place, what with Infinite sparing you and the events that followed; you had somehow become an integral part of Sonic and his cohorts’ plan to bring Dr. Eggman to a halt. But the fact that Shadow not only worked with you at the local cafe but had also moved in next door to you so soon after felt too good to be true.
“All good. See you at work,” his voice somewhat hushed and low before he continued on his way. Burying his hands in his pockets, his steps covered an impressive distance in only a few minutes, Shadow’s mind wandering. He had also taken note of you - your impressive feats to aid them in their world saving efforts all the way down to your also somewhat mundane ritualistic activities. You both worked behind the counter at the cafe; him focusing more on brewing orders while you handled customers. He was always curious how you managed it with a smile on your face most days; the idea of switching spots with you was enough to make him shudder, shaking his head in effort to rid himself of the idea.
“Oh Shadow, people aren’t all bad!” Maria’s voice echoed. Shadow stopped dead in his tracks, the sudden flashback startling him. Why would he remember that now, of all times and places?
You weren’t too far behind Shadow, but you swore he glided to work effortlessly even without his air shoes. It wasn’t until he paused that you were able to catch up with him, letting out a small chuckle as you bumped shoulders with him lightly. This seemed to pull him out of his daze.
“C’mon, spacey, we don’t want to be late. I still owe you a breakfast sandwich for yesterday!”
“Wait- what? What are you talking about?”
You turned to look at the dark hedgehog, a smile creeping on your lips, “you saved me from that older gentleman, remember? He was making all sorts of comments-“
Shadow let out a “tch-“ sound before furrowing his eyebrows further, “Oh. You don’t owe me anything for that. You seemed uncomfortable.” His pace picked up a bit, causing you to need to start into a light jog to keep pace with him.
“I mean- yeah. He was being a bit creepy.” You huffed out a breath, once again embarrassed only this time by how winded keeping up with Shadow made you. “Hey, could you slow down a bit? We aren’t running that late or anything.”
Shadow eyed you from the side, smirking slightly before slowing his pace, “well, lucky for you, we’re here.” He motioned toward the building in front of you both, windows lining the outside to reveal the dark seating area of the cafe. You let out an exaggerated huff in an effort to make light of your winded state before digging in your bag for the keys to the front door. After wrestling with the key for a moment, you were able to unlock the building and begin setting up to open.
“Hey Shadow, I’ve been meaning to ask, how do you like your coffee?”
Shadow paused for a moment while he removed the chairs from atop their respective tables, pushing them in and moving on to the next methodically, “black, which I’m sure you probably could’ve guessed.”
“Ah- right. My bad. That does seem too fitting to not be obvious, huh?” you laughed shyly, starting the brew and selecting a breakfast sandwich to heat up for your counterpart. Man, you’re really going 3 for 3 this morning, huh? Your head hung low before rolling your shoulders back. This is your last chance to invite him, don’t screw it up!
The oven chimed as an indicator that Shadow’s sandwich was done, encouraging you to work up a bit of courage to not only present the seemingly unnecessary gesture but to also address him. You plated the sandwich and placed it on the table Shadow had just cleared off.
“Your breakfast, my good sir!” you bowed dramatically, getting a strained chuckle in response from Shadow. Clearing your throat, you figured now was as good a time as any, “I wanted to ask you something.”
Shadow sat in the chair in front of the sandwich, thankful that he wouldn’t have to resort to the corner store option, “hmm?”
You waited a moment to see if his gaze would meet yours, only to realize after a few bites in that your gesture maybe wasn’t as unwanted as he made it seem. “Well, see, I am going to be having a few people over later tonight to celebrate New Years. Rouge, Silver, maybe a few others, and uhm-“ you gulped, your mouth dry as your original, short invitation started to take a turn for the worse. “And... you? If you’d like to come?” Your ears drooped a tiny bit, your body subconsciously preparing for the inevitable rejection you were sure you would face.
Much to your surprise though, Shadow paused his chewing to look at you, “Yeah. I could stop by.” He continued to eat, completely unfazed by your shock at his response.
“Really?? That’s great! I mean- that’s, uhm, yeah! The party starts at 8PM!”
Shadow said nothing, which you took in stride, practically twirling as you went to grab him a coffee.
The work day somehow dragged on and yet also was over before either of you knew it. Shadow was appreciative of the routine of brewing the coffee, cleaning the machine, collecting dishware, and starting over as it allowed him to shut his brain off. It seemed to be determined to pull the rug out from under him today considering his flashback earlier. Memories of Maria weren’t unwelcome by any means, but Shadow recognized his emotional responses to them weren’t necessarily appropriate at work. He could have contemplated the reason behind their resurgence, but he simply chalked it up to his recent living situation changes, unwilling to dig deeper than that. Although, he might not have been too far off.
Rouge wasn’t the only one Shadow had heard speak of normalcy longingly; Maria’s illness was better managed whilst in the care of her grandfather, but that didn’t mean she got to experience much of a normal childhood as other kids her age did. She was at the mercy of her grandfather’s schedule and her small living quarters. “I know it seems silly,” she would say softly, “but sometimes I miss going to school. I miss riding the bus. I miss running through flower fields and my parents yelling for me when the street lights came on.” These concepts had meant very little to Shadow at the time, but as life had settled around him, he couldn’t help but wish he could show Maria that he was trying to live each day with her in mind.
The New Year creeping up on him was maybe too much of a reminder that he hadn’t done that great of a job to really appreciate the peace he had recently found. All he could hope for is that the party tonight would not be something he would regret agreeing to. I’ll make a promise to Maria that I will do better in the coming year.
You stared at your reflection for far too long. Clothes were strewn about your bed, all rejected options for tonight’s celebration. “You don’t need to overdo it!” you said to yourself, gripping the jeans in your hands. “Just wear the stupid jeans and find a comfy sweater. This isn’t meant to be some crazy thing.”
A knock on your door indicated that you didn’t have time to continue to bemoan over your lackluster wardrobe any longer. Throwing on the clothes in hand and quickly fluffing your hair, you made your way to the front door to greet your first guest. To your surprise, Shadow greeted you with a bottle of champaign.
“Hope this is okay,” he said, looking you over subtly. He was dressed in a pair of dark slacks, a turtleneck sweater, and a nice blazer. You could feel the dread set in once again before mentally shaking yourself out of it, “yes! This is fine! Thank you, you really didn’t have to bring anything.” You welcomed him inside and placed the champaign on the kitchen counter before turning to pull refreshments from the pantry and fridge.
Shadow stood next to the door as he watched you move about your apartment, removing his blazer and placing it in the crook of his arm. Your own apartment wasn’t much different than his, the layout the same, but flipped. It seemed much more suitable to host guests than his own, he noted, as he moved across the living room to where you were at in the kitchen. He hung his blazer along the back of one of the dining room chairs before holding his hands out to you. By this point, you were struggling to move the punch bowl, having filled it prematurely and realizing you would have to move the full thing to its proper place. Shadow’s outstretched arms took you by surprise but you did not refuse the help. You gingerly placed the bowl into Shadow’s arms, “thanks- uhm, you can set it on the bar counter next to the cups.”
He nodded and placed the bowl with ease, something you were quite jealous of. His otherworldly strength was quite useful while you two worked together, as he did a majority of the heavy lifting when food shipments arrived. Of course the simple task of moving the punch bowl would be easy for him. You laughed at yourself quietly at the thought and quickly turned away to continue setup.
It did not take long for the other fantastic mobians to join you both, the space of your apartment quickly filling with sounds of chatter and laughter. As the festivities kicked off, you began to notice that Shadow wasn’t really interacting with anyone (except for Rouge every now and again when she would seek him out). You had made a mental note to check in with him, but were quickly swept away to host.
You had never quite pulled something like this off, and the constant interaction was quickly draining your own social battery. Chaos, if I’m feeling this way I can only imagine how Shadow is doing. The thought prompted a quick scan of the apartment, but Shadow was nowhere to be seen. Your brows creased with concern, hoping he hadn’t left without saying anything. However, your search would need to wait as you felt an intense need to step outside for a bit of fresh air. You checked in with Tails, asking for him to keep an eye on things while you stepped out, to which he smiled at you and told you not to worry.
One of your favorite parts about this apartment was access to a private balcony. It wasn’t anything impressive but it made for a nice getaway when you needed it. You pulled on the door, struggling as it stuck to the doorway before prying it open and prompting Shadow to turn around to face you.
“Oh- sorry! I didn’t mean to, uhm-“ you gulped, startled by his presence. Why was talking to him always so nerve-wracking? “I just needed some fresh air.”
You watched as Shadow shifted over to allow some space to join him, “be my guest.”
Struggling again to close the door behind you, you moved next to him to rest your arms on the railing. Your eyes gravitated toward the sky, catching sporadic flashes of light from fireworks far off in the distance. The cool night air was a refreshing contrast from the sudden stuffiness in your small apartment and almost immediately your body relaxed. It was only at that point that you were able to take a deep breath and really released the subconscious tension you held in your shoulders since everyone arrived.
“Quite the turnout, huh?” you offered, shifting your gaze to Shadow.
He stood unmoving, his eyes now fixated on the sky above him. The stars lit up their dark backdrop, competing only with the bursts of fireworks every now and again. Shadow hadn’t seen the night sky like this in what felt like a lifetime. He had his own balcony but rarely ever used it, having forgotten it was there for the most part. In his solitude, he had very little reason to occupy the space.
The silence between you two and his unbroken focus on the sky brought you to look up again. This moment was not unwelcome nor awkward like you feared it might be. You felt a wave of comfort wash over you as you listened to the muffled sounds of your friends indoors alongside the chirping of crickets and popping of fireworks.
Shadow finally acknowledged his lack of a response to you, shifting slightly and clearing his throat, “I wonder if Maria had gotten to experience a New Years like this.” Taken aback by this vulnerability, you turned to Shadow again.
Maria. That was a familiar name in regards to the dark hedgehog. You knew she was the only friend he had before he was captured by GUN, having suffered a horrendous fate at the organization’s hand. You contemplated if she was the reason for his more prominent standoffish behavior tonight.
“This place reminds you of her, doesn’t it?” The words came out as hardly anything more than whisper, your effort to come across as tender shining through.
You watched as Shadow winced, moving his hands to interlock his fingers. “Not just this place.” He took a deep breath, as if calculating how much he wanted to divulge to you. “Everything and everywhere does...”
His voice was low and barely audible in comparison to the world around you. Shadow had been carrying the weight of Maria’s death with him through life, a feeling you could only imagine. His ears drooped slightly as his gaze shifted downward to his hands. He studied their shape, taking note of his inhibitor rings and the creases along his fingers, trying to remember what Maria’s felt like. With another small breath, he continued, “memories of her are in everything.”
To say you were stunned would be the understatement of the century. You took in the scene of Shadow, arms resting on the railing in front of him, the fingers of one of his hands tracing the other, his demeanor sad and sincere. You placed your hand on his shoulder, giving it a light squeeze. His eyes lifted to meet your own, his gaze years away as tears pooled and fell along his cheek. You smiled at him, pulling him gently toward you.
He hesitated at first before accepting your embrace. You held each other there for a moment, searching for the right words to say in response to his. Everything seemed to come up short, in your mind, sounding way too cheesy and cliche to truly convey your desire to comfort Shadow. Against your better judgment, you pulled away to look at him.
“I think... that’s how you help keep their memory alive. You carry them with you in some capacity. You associate certain things in life to them, and you cherish those things more than you would have otherwise.”
You paused, searching his expression in an effort to ensure you weren’t overstepping. He stared back at you, his usual scowl nowhere to be seen, his expression softer than you had seen before.
“Maybe it also helps us live life to the fullest and not take things for granted.”
He nodded slowly, your words sinking in as he stepped out of your arms to look at the sky again.
“She would have wanted me to enjoy life,” he said thoughtfully. Shadow took a deep breath before looking at you once again, a timid smile playing on his lips. “Thank you.”
You returned his smile in kind, imprinting this moment to memory for you to cherish always. After a brief pause, you offered your hand to him, “what do you say we go back in?”
He looked down at your hand and nodded, wiping the tears from his face and giving the night sky another glance. Shadow would have to remember to spruce up his own balcony to enjoy the stars.
Your fingers intertwined with his as you started to head back inside; the backdoor being of no issue for Shadow (of course) to pull open and close shut with ease. He let go of your hand after giving it a light squeeze and moved through the group to find Rouge of his own accord, smiling back at you. Sonic approached you, taking note of the interaction, “wow, never thought that guy could actually smile! You sure we don’t have a SUPER faker among us?”
Your elbow jabbed into Sonic’s arm playfully as you laughed and shook your head.
As midnight approached, you all gathered around the TV in the living room and counted down the New Year. Shadow closed his eyes, allowing Rouge to shake him as she joined the others in celebrating. His eyes opened and rested their gaze on you, watching as you cheered alongside everyone. It was then that he decided; he was going to make sure he did everything he could to appreciate his newfound friends and peaceful existence, just the way he hoped Maria would have wanted him to.

hi!! ive been enjoying your work for awhile now, and have two questions bt “From the Shadows of the Deep”
First, is Tails’ vitality thing going to play a significant role in the plot?
And second, is Sonic like, gonna fall for the Kraken? Romantically? Or are they just going to form a friendship? I’m sorry if this is a weird question and if the answer is obvious, lol. It is a sonadow fic afterall. I am just caught off guard since Sonic doesn’t know the Kraken is Shadow and sees it as just a sentient oversized octopus. Wouldn’t he js b falling inlove with an animal? (Not meant to be rude, just curious bt what u think <3)
Hello there! First of all, yes, Tails' vitality reader will play a role in the fic, but will probably be a lot more minor than people are expcting!
And all right, now let's get into the meat of this ask!
Usually, I don't sit down and clarify or explain what's going on in my fics because I would prefer for my writing to do the talking. HOWEVER, the idea of Sonic falling in love with the Kraken has been brought up enough that I will try to elaborate a bit on what's going to go on over the next few chapters, just so that you (and anyone else reading this) can decide if they want to continue with this fic or not. So conceptual spoilers ahead, read at your own risk!
-
Sonic's feelings for the Kraken's are going to be very convoluted, and while he won't technically harbor explicit romantic feelings towards the Kraken, he is going to be very confused about what exactly it IS that he is feeling towards him. There's going to be a lot of reflection as he kind of grapples with the morality with their growing closeness and intimate moments, and this is all needs to happen in order for a very specific scene to occur. The scene that the entire fic revolves around.
Because the thing is, he is in love with Shadow the Hedgehog, and what that means is that he is going to fall in love with Shadow no matter what form he takes, whether he knows it's Shadow or not. That's kind of the poetry I'm going for with this whole thing: it doesn't matter if Shadow is a monster or a hedgehog, or if Sonic knows it's him, he loves him no matter who or what he is. So this sense of familiarity and attraction he feels towards the Kraken is going to confuse him, because even though he knows that it's weird and wrong, there is still something that draws him in, because that "something" is the fact that the Kraken and Shadow are one and the same.
Long story short, we only have a few chapters of this complicated Sonic/Kraken thing. I just updated the tags to include "mild interspecies romance" because I am surprised that I didn't do that from the start, so hopefully this can prepare future readers better for the contents of the fic. The entire final act (aka last six chapters of the story) is going to be Sonic and Shadow, and that is when the "real" romance begins, though technically it is starting with his interactions with the Kraken in the second act we are in right now.
So yeah, that was a long one! Hopefully it answered your main question? Idk you're not the only person who has brought this up, so that's kind of why I went so in-depth. And I'm really hoping that these next chapters can execute this vision I have, because as I've mentioned elsewhere, this is kind of the meat of the story we're in right now. Anyways, thanks for asking!

Knew Exactly What He Was Doing - Silver
Author Notes: So, fun fact time. I actually wrote this the same day I wrote the "Sparring Sessions" Silver fic, with this one getting written first. So the sparring sessions mentioned in this fic relate to the contents of that. I didn't really listen to anything specific while writing this, it was really more that I just thought it would be fun to characterize Silver with just a dash of the meaness our faerie boys have since was raised by Lilia and Malleus. As per usual, reader is gender-neutral. I hope you enjoy!
Type: Gender-neutral reader/ fluff/ platonic or romantic
Word count: 1534
Tumblr media
I stood next to Silver, watching from a safe distance as yet another fight was resolved in the courtyard.
Ever since that one day when I’d nearly been hit by a badly missed punch courtesy of a Savanaclaw junior who’d been dodged by a Pomefiore sophomore, it had become customary for Silver to shadow me. Though I didn’t know if it was by his choice or if he was a Hornton-appointed guardian for me.
I glanced up at the young knight, just about to comment on how the teachers had made it here faster than usual when I heard it.
“SILVER!” Sebek’s voice came like a sonic blast from across the courtyard, making me jump about a foot in the air as my head snapped to the side to look at the half-faerie man.
Silver, at odds with my skittish reaction, merely turned his head with his usual calmness. By now he was probably used to Sebek’s loud nature, but I didn’t know if I would ever truly get used to my classmate’s yelling.
I watched as Sebek glared, holding eye contact with Silver as he gestured at me vehemently and then mimed widening the space between me and Silver.
I sighed softly at his theatrics because, at this point, it was nothing new.
Sebek, though a sweet boy who was always looking out for me, was quite prudish. After all, he was the one who had a long and detailed plan for wooing someone that involved penning several missives and, after a whole thirty-five moons, finally sitting with a person’s width between him and the object of his affections.
The fact that Silver was standing right next to me was probably quite scandalizing to him considering he had, at some point, decided that Silver was interested in me. Or at least something along those lines.
Lilia may or may not have had something to do with that assumption of his, but that was neither here nor there at the moment.
Ever since Sebek had reached his decision, he had been belligerently attempting to keep Silver at what he deemed a respectable distance from my person. However far that distance may be.
I smiled reassuringly towards Sebek and waved, mouthing that all was well in a feeble attempt to calm the excitable young man, but I was far too late. Because when it came right down to it, despite Silver’s angelic looks, the young man had a mean streak all his own.
I’d found this out the hard way shortly after I’d started really getting to know him.
Though perhaps a mean streak wasn’t the right way to put it. After all, Silver would never do anything outright mean. Because while he did like to pick on people, Silver was also genuinely nice. He was just a horrible tease with an impressive poker face.
I could only assume Silver had learned to be such a fart from either his father or Malleus. Both of whom were just as much, if not more, of a mess than Silver.
What was important to remember, though, was that the supposedly well-behaved knight probably reached his worst when he was messing with Sebek.
I was fairly certain he simply enjoyed riling Sebek up and watching the younger man’s reaction. And, to be fair, Sebek did have some glorious reactions.
The only problem was that I was often the best, handiest, and most efficient way to rile Sebek up. Simply because Silver could attack Sebek’s prudish nature via me.
What was worse was that Silver hadn’t minded messing with me ever since I’d started learning swordsmanship from him. May those many, many sparring sessions never go forgotten.
I watched as Sebek stiffened and knew that Silver was up to something immediately. And sure enough, I felt a hand on my waist that tugged me closer till I was fairly well plastered to Silver’s side.
There definitely wasn’t a person’s width between us now.
I looked up only to find that Silver’s expression was his usual, innocently stoic one that he so often used as his poker face. As if on cue, I immediately heard Sebek, “YOU-!”
The freshman sputtered out what sounded like the beginning of several different complaints before releasing something akin to a frustrated growl.
Oh, this was gonna be a doozy. Sebek couldn’t even talk right.
Silver was not done, though. Ever innocent-looking, he leaned down to speak to me, “Where’s your next class?”
Silver's voice was soft as he whispered in my ear, his breath tickling the outer shell of my ear and causing me to shudder at the sensation. In the distance, I could hear Sebek release some form of outraged screech while I fought to not react to Silver’s proximity.
It simply wasn’t fair. I couldn’t deny that this was definitely an easy way to mess with Sebek, but it definitely wasn’t easy on me considering Silver was confoundingly good-looking but seemingly unaware of his effect on anyone who had eyes and weren’t a member of his little family group.
After stuttering out several more rather incoherent words, Sebek at last bellowed a very loud, “DEBAUCHERY!!” His voice alone had students scattering and poor Trein looking up in alarm and confusion.
Off to the side, I could see Ace and Epel all but choking with laughter while Deuce and Jack shook their heads. But I couldn’t entirely blame Ace and Epel for laughing.
They were simply watching and didn’t know that this was, in fact, a very pointed attack on Sebek by Silver. So all they saw was me fighting embarrassment, an outraged Sebek, and a completely calm Silver, who they probably assumed was too dumb to figure out what was going on.
And to be fair, I still wasn’t entirely clear on if Silver knew that he was also messing with me when he messed with Sebek. After all, it was almost impossible to tell with that poker face of his.
Which was why I simply fought my embarrassment without retaliating, even though I was already growing fidgety due to the raw amount of attention we were garnering. And that wasn’t even factoring Silver himself into the equation.
But I wasn’t about to react. Not when I was doing my very best to avoid ever entering the range of Silver or his father’s hit list for harassment and teasing.
So I merely inhaled, a little too sharply to be honest, and answered, “Potionology.… Do we have this one together?”
Silver let out a hum before straightening and nodding, affirming my thoughts and giving me room to breathe a little more calmly at the same time, “Sebek will be there too….” He trailed off and glanced over to see Sebek marching towards us, ready to scold Silver as soon as he reached us.
Unfortunately for him, Silver apparently had no interest in being scolded since he calmly started forward. Tugging me along with him easily as he kept me close to him.
At this point, it was quite possible that he simply didn’t want to lose me in the crowd. But in reality I wasn’t convinced that keeping me tucked up against his side didn’t also serve to only further incense Sebek.
I stumbled slightly and shot a look up at Silver, catching the subtle amusement in his eyes as he glanced down at me, but adjusted his pace accordingly.
He easily navigated the crowd, though, putting as many people between us and our very loud friend as possible in minimal time.
I fought against the urge to say something as a childish attempt to get back at him but couldn’t quite stop myself from retaliating, “Don’t fall asleep this time. Remember what happened last time?”
He nodded slightly, his face a perfect mask of calmness that meant he probably didn’t recognize my retaliation for what it was, “Of course, Sebek will hardly let me forget.”
He tilted his head in a thoughtful manner, those strange eyes of his flicking towards where a clock hung on a wall before meeting my eyes again, a slight smile slipping onto his face, “If we make it in time, we should be able to work together.”
I smiled slightly at his words because at least with this, I could trust Silver to just be helpful. He took his lessons seriously, even if he did have a nasty habit of falling asleep. But, if paired with me, he could trust me to keep him awake, and I could trust him to help with necessary magic spells.
But then he continued, “Since Sebek and Fa⏤ Lilia will be in this class too. I’ll have to do my best not to disappoint.”
Oh…. It was always worse if Lilia was around. He was an enabler of all chaos and was especially proud when his ‘air-headed’ son was ‘innocently’ at fault.
I almost frowned at the man next to me as we started off towards our class.
Air-headed my butt. Little rat knew exactly what he was doing.
Or at least he did when it came to Sebek. I could only pray he didn’t when it came to me, because then who knew what I’d have to do to survive.

valentine’s day sonadow fic!! i posted this around midnight my time so sorry if you see this the next day <33
au where sonic was born and raised on earth and shadow is cupid
Shadow had been making people happy since he could remember. Being Cupid had its perks. He got to see people fall in love, seeing them live their lives. But he had always been making people fall in love but never experiencing it himself. Until he saw Sonic. Oh, it was love at first sight. He was enamored with the energetic blue hedgehog. Ironic, isnt it? He wanted, no, he needed him. But he could only pitifully watch from afar as he and his friends had fun together. Oh, how he wished he could just fly down there and introduce himself. See his gorgeous quills up close. And his eyes, they looked like the emerald. They were so rich and green. After weeks of watching, Shadow had enough. He couldnt take anymore. Sonic was alone, and he was alone. He flew down and his wings folded away. They couldnt be seen when he wasnt using them, so he wasnt worried about getting caught. He bought a cup of coffee from a cafe and started walking towards Sonic. He "tripped" and fell on him.
"Oh my god, Im so sorry!” he apologizes, getting off him.
"Dont worry about it!" Sonic smiles and helps him up. "I think your coffees seen better days though," Sonic grimaces. Shadow turns to the coffee cup on the ground. "I’ll buy you another one. I’m so sorry.”
"You dont have to do that. It was my fault for not checking where I was going." In reality, Shadow was praying that Sonic would insist. And he did.
"No, please. It was my fault. I’ll buy you another cup!"
"Thank you... youre so kind." Sonic starts walking and Shadow follows him.
“So, where are you from?” Sonic asks as he orders the cup of coffee. They find a table and they both sit down as they wait for it to be made.
“Not… around here. You?” Shadow mutters and looks at the hedgehog across from him.
“I was born a few hours away from here. Lived here basically all my life. What do you do for a living?” Sonic replied as he sat down.
“I help people fall in love,” Shadow replied.
“What? Like Cupid? How?” Sonic’s eyes light up. Shadow tenses slightly but it’s gone before Sonic notices it.
“It’s complicated,” Shadow mutters and leans closer to Sonic. Sonic grins and giggles, which makes Shadow’s heart flip. The blue hedgehog just stares at him with a wonderstruck look in his eyes. As if he’s in love. The two of them continue talking for so long, they get kicked out of the cafe, and it’s dark when they walk out.
“I really enjoyed tonight,” Sonic says, leaning forwards.
“Me too,” Shadow murmurs. “This was fun. Sorry for bumping into you.”
“No! I mean-don’t be sorry…” Sonic blurts, and Shadow suppresses a smile.
“Well, I was wondering if I could get your number? If that’s okay?” Sonic murmurs.
“Yeah, just give me your number. I’ll call you?” Shadow suggests, since he doesn’t exactly have a number. He’s Cupid.
“Yeah.” Sonic grins and writes his number down quickly on a piece of paper of paper and gives it to Shadow. “Thank you for bumping into me.”
“Thank you for buying me another cup, sunshine. I’ll call you.” Shadow smiles and walks away. He’s gone before Sonic can ask about why Shadow just called him ‘sunshine’, or acknowledge the fact that he loved being called that.

Oh you're calling Sonic over right now? He's gonna see that shredded glove and worry about you~ It's only fair though, you fussed over his lip and bruised cheek just earlier. I bet a month ago he would have tried to laugh small injuries like those off and waved away most help with them too, but not now that he has a sweet boyfriend who wants to take care of him~<3
*Shadow hangs up and sighs, closing his eyes. Any moment now. Within a few seconds, Sonic appears by his side*
Hey! Whew.. Oh, that was not a good idea.. oh jeez.. *he sits down next to Shadow*
What's wrong with you?
I uh.. had a chili dog eating contest with Knuckles and Omega. Didn't think about the fact that running at like 400mph immediately after is not a good idea.
... Did you win?
No..
Damn. *Shadow looks over as Sonic leans against him, their shoulders touching*
.. this view... It's beautiful. Is this what you wanted to show me?
Yes. *He yawns as Sonic's scent soothes him. He lays his head on Sonic's shoulder and closes his eyes*
Aww, heh... You tired, sunshine..? *He gently takes Shadow's hand.. the good hand. He hasn't noticed the hurt one yet*
...mhm.. *By the time he finishes murmuring out his confirmation, Shadow is asleep*
*Sonic puts his free arm around him and holds him close as he admires the beautiful blooming hills before them. He gently runs his fingers along Shadow's arm, speaking quietly even though he knows Shadow can't hear him* .... I know something is wrong.. I know you too well, Shads.. I just.. wish you would talk to me about it.... You're always there for me.. let me be there for you, too... *He smiles softly, admiring his sleeping boyfriend. He kisses his head* I love you so much..
*in the early stages of sleep, Shadow heard him. He loves Sonic, too*

New Sonic Headcanon: Glow-in-the-dark Knuckles the Echidna
Accidentally made this one and realised how cool it was (at least to myself anyway).
I feel that Knuckles should get weird mobian biology privileges like Shadow does since he's the guy who sits next to one of the most powerful objects on the planet.
It'd be so funny if Knuckles was bioluminescent or something because of all the Chaos Energy he's absorbed all his life. Not by much, just kinda like a glowstick that's always going.
In fact, it'd be so cool if all life on Angel Island glowed in the dark to some extent and Knuckles was surprised that only the island had properties like that. Like
Sonic: "Knuckles, what the heck? Why are you glowing in the dark like that?"
Knuckles: "Why am I glowing? Why are you *not*? In fact, why does nothing down here glow? What's with that?"
Sonic: "...Because they're not supposed to? Not normally anyway."
Knuckles: "I've always glowed like this."
Sonic: "You were always like that? How'd I not notice?"
Knuckles: "You're never normally near me when it's this dark so you'd never see that I did — or I'd see that you don't."
Sonic: "...Huh. Weird."

I just know that while carrying Emmie, Sonic was not handling well the fact that he couldn’t run for a while-
Oh yeah, of course, and undoubtedly!
Emmie was not planned!! Actually, in this interpretation Sonic and Shadow would have never tried for a child otherwise. Originally they didn't want to carry her to term, since Sonic has things to do, places to be, worlds to save!! And Shadow's never felt prepared enough to be a parent.
Not only was this an unplanned pregnancy, but Emmie's a direct descendant of the Black Arms heir!!! They kept her mainly because they didn't know if it would harm Sonic more to get rid of her than anything.
Have you seen Sonic??? He can't even sit through a someone telling a story without feeling anxious. If you have time to worry, then run!! But he physically could not!!! It likely opened up a long time slot for Sonic to just think and process everything that's happened to him (which is... a lot.)
Sonic's also got a lot of pride. Imagine how he felt when he couldn't move faster than the average person?? Couldn't lean down very far?? More than losing the ability to run, Sonic was just stuck in one place. His hobby is literally saving the world. What's he supposed to do now, for 9 (give or take) months? Learn to crochet??? Yes. Yes he did.
He probably went through more emotional turmoil and passing interests than the average person lol. Then he had Emmie!! And then he didn't stop go go going for the next three years. Ahhh, fatherhood.

With Light In My Heart, Entry 7: Chasing Echoes
Tumblr media
''Whispers spiral, born of flame, in the corners, shadows frame. Cinders crawl beneath my skin, I can't escape what pulls me in. Fragments drift, forgotten screams, ghosts that flicker in between. Chasing echoes, falling through, a labyrinth I never knew.''
– Embers of the Abyss by ABOKAI Release (Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings)
xXxXxXx
Sonic took a deep breath, his eyes closed, one arm placed over his eyes as he tried to wake up, yet he couldn't. He felt so cozy and warm underneath the blankets, wanting to sleep a little longer, but his body protested, his stomach growling and demanding food. He sighed, his arm sliding down as he slowly opened his eyes. He realized that he was lying on a couch in a cabin, taking a moment to recall how he got here, only for his muzzle to turn a rose red when his memories hit him with full force. He and Shadow had been cuddling, confessing their feelings for each other, kissing and simply pouring their hearts out. Frankly, Sonic had no idea how he even got that far. Sure, he had feelings for Shadow, something that took him a long time to realize and even longer to acknowledge, but he still believed that he would keep them for himself for Shadow's sake. He never thought that Shadow would reciprocate his feelings, but he would be lying if he said that he didn't feel happy about it. In fact, he as thrilled about Shadow becoming his boyfriend. Speaking of which…
''How do you feel?''
Sonic sat up, looking over the couch and spotting Shadow in the kitchen, walking over with a plate of fluffy pancakes, setting them on a coffee table next to the couch.
''I feel much better,'' Sonic answered, with Shadow placing his ungloved hand on his forehead, then lowering it to his peach muzzle and chest.
''You don't feel like an ice block anymore,'' Shadow stated, with Sonic snorting.
''That's all thanks to your care,'' Sonic said, only to get interrupted by his growling stomach. He glanced at the pancakes, then back at Shadow.
''Those are all for you. I already ate. Admittedly, it is a little late for breakfast,'' Shadow told him.
''Really?'' Sonic hummed, pulling the coffee table closer and digging into his meal.
''It's actually past noon,'' Shadow told him, sitting next to Sonic. The cobalt hedgehog rose an eyebrow, with Shadow adding, ''I didn't want to wake you up since you were still asleep and recovering, so I went to the village to get some supplies since I knew you'd be hungry once you wake up, as well as inform them that they won't be bothered by any of the Doctor's robots.''
Sonic nodded, happily eating the pancakes. He had to commend Shadow's cooking, as the pancakes were quite sweet and fluffy, but tasty and filling. ''I'm good to go once I'm done eating.''
''Are you sure?'' Shadow directed Sonic's attention to the nearest window, with the cobalt hedgehog's ears drooping once he realized that everything outside was white. Glittering snowflakes were flying past the window at high speed, the strong blizzard causing a near white-out. ''I have managed to return to the cabin just before the snowstorm and it only got stronger since then.''
''I guess we're stuck until the blizzard passes,'' Sonic commented, only to realize something. ''Wait, you still have the Chaos Emerald, right? I guess we could use that to leave.''
''Right…'' Shadow suddenly fell silent. Sonic gave him a puzzled look, wondering what was wrong, only to get startled when Shadow pressed his head into his hands, groaning, ''I should've used the Chaos Emerald to get you to a hospital.''
Sonic laughed lightly once he heard what was bothering Shadow. It seemed that the dark hedgehog finally realized that he could've used the Chaos Emerald to get Sonic to a hospital to get the appropriate care instead of trying to help him himself, even if he knew what to do in the case of hypothermia. Why didn't he think about it in the first place?
''Eh, confessing in a hospital wouldn't have been as romantic as confessing while cuddling to try to keep me from freezing to death,'' Sonic commented nonchalantly. His ears twitched when he heard a snort, only for Shadow to look up at him after sighing. He spotted a wide smile on Sonic's lips, both infuriating and endearing. He knew that his rival – now boyfriend – was just trying to cheer him up, with Shadow appreciated, but he still felt that Sonic shouldn't have treated the situation so lightly. It seemed that Sonic knew exactly what was on his mind, because he added, ''You know, thinking about what you could've done differently won't bring you anywhere. I meant it when I said that your treatment really helped.''
''You're right,'' Shadow agreed. He knew that debating about what he could've done will just lead to him spiral into more negative thoughts. He didn't need that. He couldn't go back to that. Sonic gave him a comforting smile, then focused back on his meal. ''Nevertheless, this means that we would be able to leave once you're done.''
''Maybe I don't feel that well.''
Shadow glanced at Sonic, who gave him a cheeky smile. The dark hedgehog furrowed a brow, knowing well that Sonic was spouting nonsense, since it was clear that he was back to his usual self after getting some proper rest. They weren't even stuck at this cabin, since Shadow could easily use Chaos Control to bypass the blizzard and they could move on to their next destination. Therefore, it would make no sense for them staying here… unless Sonic actually wanted to stay a little longer.
''Really?'' Shadow gave Sonic a quizzical tilt, despite the knowing look on his expression. Sonic was well aware what it meant, but he kept pretending as if he knew nothing.
''I mean, I do feel a little cold… Not like 'ice block-cold', but I wouldn't mind staying here to warm myself up a little more, at least until the blizzard passes,'' Sonic replied, doing his best to not make it obvious that he was just coming up with excuses to stay in the cabin in hopes to cuddle with Shadow in front of the crackling fire while listening to the whistling icy wind outside, and failing miserably at it.
Unfortunately for him, Shadow knew what he was up to, considering the 'you're not fooling me' gaze he gave the cobalt hedgehog, but to the latter's relief, he played along with it. ''If you don't feel well enough to leave, I won't argue.''
Shadow stood up to walk over to the fireplace to throw in more pieces of wood, only for his ear to flick when he heard a hiss of a ''Yes!'' as Sonic fist-pumped in delight. He was a little amused by the fact that, even though Sonic could've just asked him outright if they could just stay and cuddle, he went back to his usual attempts at playing it cool. It was kind of endearing, especially since they weren't in some perilous situation that would eat at Shadow's nerves and cause him to snap back. It genuinely felt weird to Shadow to not feel tense for once and he was doing his best to get used to it.
Sonic was soon done with his meal, making a quick trip to the bathroom to clean himself up and then plopping right back on the couch with a content look, patting the space next to him as he glanced at Shadow. Shadow sighed, relenting as he wondered how he even ended up in this situation, but he still joined Sonic under the blankets, with the cobalt hedgehog immediately wrapping his arms around Shadow, nuzzling his shoulder. Shadow couldn't really protest, as this felt quite comfortable and he had already abandoned any sense of dignity and pride the previous night. Nevertheless, he felt compelled to mess with Sonic a little.
''I never thought that you would be the clingy type,'' Shadow commented, watching with a smirk when Sonic rose his head.
''I'm not clingy,'' he protested, pouting. ''You're just a good heater.''
''If you want heat, perhaps I should kick you off of the couch and leave you in front of the fireplace instead,'' Shadow continued.
''You wouldn't,'' Sonic grumbled, his eyes narrowing as he shot a glare at Shadow.
''I would, and you know it,'' Shadow threatened, his deep, growling tone sending chills down Sonic's spine. The cobalt hedgehog knew well that if Shadow was set on a mission, there was absolutely nothing that would stop him and he deeply admired that determination, even if it led to them often clashing with each other. So, yeah, if Shadow felt like it, he would've kicked him off. However, that wasn't what left him unnerved. Instead, Sonic took note of Shadow's voice, sensing something in it that made him shiver, with waves of heat spreading through his body. He soon realized that it was actually a hint of playfulness on the dark hedgehog's part, the latter clearly being amused by his irritation.
If Shadow was relaxed and petty enough to annoy him for his own amusement, Sonic had to wonder what he was capable of when things got a bit more heated… only to quickly chase out those images in his head. Sure, he prided himself in being The Fastest Thing Alive, but he knew that he would have to get used to being in a romantic relationship first before he went further. It wasn't just because of Shadow's comfort, but also his own, given how he never actively pursued being in a relationship until now. However, he couldn't help those thoughts crawling back into his mind every time Shadow flashed his fangs, making Sonic wonder how they would feel on his own skin; or the fact that the dark hedgehog kept his bare hand resting on the cobalt hedgehog's peach belly, leaving Sonic's imagination spiraling.
''Hmph, you're unusually quiet,'' Shadow commented, snapping cobalt hedgehog out of his thoughts.
''Well, yeah, you're hot,'' Sonic responded with the first thing that came to his mind, only for his brain to finally catch up with his mouth, leaving him flustered. Sure, he knew that this relationship would eventually come with compliments from both sides, but he wasn't going to feed Shadow's ego so easily. Somehow, even when completely closed-off to others, the dark hedgehog still managed to radiate an aura of smugness that Sonic was usually able to match. Keyword being usually, because currently, he was far from his cocky self. He sighed, knowing he dug himself into a hole, but decided to tackle this like any other challenge he came across.
''As much as I appreciate the compliment, since it is true…'' Sonic frowned at that. ''I'm not certain whether I even want to know what made you say this.''
''So, you don't want to know what I think about you?'' Sonic asked in a teasing tone, giving Shadow a wide grin.
''No, I just want to stop you before you completely embarrass yourself by saying something foolish,'' Shadow responded in a deadpan tone.
''D'awww, Shads, you do care!'' Sonic didn't miss a beat, nuzzling Shadow's cheek before planting a kiss on it. The dark hedgehog felt a little exasperated by this, but he took it in stride. This was his new reality, after all, and he needed to get used to it. Speaking of reality, a brief memory of one of his conversations with Maria flashed in his mind, this one having occurred right after his confrontation with Sonic, where Maria expressed her fondness for the cobalt hedgehog, wondering if he and Shadow were friends.
While Shadow wanted nothing more get Maria back, he also shuddered at the thought of what she would think about his current relationship with Sonic. He wasn't worried that she would disapprove of it, having a hard time believing that she would be anything but supportive. No, what actually worried him was that she would get a bit too supportive when she realized that there was a special bond between them and start asking Shadow questions he, or at least his past self, didn't want an answer too. Despite being seen as sweet and innocent by everyone on the ARK, Shadow knew that Maria was wickedly smart and perceptive, and would not only pick up on his feelings towards Sonic, but also tease him about it or try to push him towards accepting those feelings. Somehow, an image of him confessing to Sonic at a park while Maria was lurking in the bushes and giving him a thumbs-up popped in his head, causing him to snort at the ridiculousness of the scenario, only to groan when he realized that, in an another world, that would probably happen. He didn't even want to think about how awkward things would be, but he figured that he maybe would be able to handle his emotions in a more healthy way.
''You okay?''
Shadow saw a pair of green orbs glinting at him.
''I'm fine…'' Shadow sighed, adding, ''Maria would've liked you…''
''I'm sure I would've liked her as well,'' Sonic answered, figuring that Shadow was simply reminiscing.
''I know…'' Shadow shot him a glare. ''Unfortunately, in that scenario I'd be stuck with babysitting you two and making sure you don't drag her into trouble.''
Sonic chuckled. ''Yeah, that sounds like something that could happen…''
He sort of felt bad for Shadow for having to watch over him, but his mischievous side was more than happy to drag dark hedgehog into another unforgettable adventure.
Unforgettable… Sonic's smile faded as a recent memory invaded his mind. He still smiled, despite the memory being unsettling. ''Hey, Shads?''
''Hm?''
''I want you to promise me something.''
''…'' Shadow took note of the seriousness in Sonic's tone, furrowing a brow. ''What is it?''
''If I ever start losing my memories of who I am, I want you to remember for me what kind of person I was,'' Sonic said. Shadow gave him a shocked look, his tone laced with concern and disbelief.
''Why would you ask me that?''
''Back on the Starfall Islands, when I freed Amy, Knuckles and Tails from their cyber cages, I also absorbed cyber-energy, which led to my mind and body getting corrupted by it. My condition started to deteriorate to the point that every movement caused me agony, my body growing cold and numb. However, that wasn't the worst of it.'' Sonic frowned, his emerald eyes losing some of its light. ''The worst part was that I was also starting to lose my memories of my friends, of my life, of myself.'' Shadow's eyes widened in shock at the revelation. He had his own experience with amnesia, knowing well how lost memories could mess up a person's psyche. Sonic seemed to have caught on, because he added, ''It wasn't anything like your situation. You forgot everything in an instant, while I was slowly losing my memories piece by piece. At some point, I have forgotten about my past adventures and almost forgot that the only reason I was running around on the Starfall Islands was because I needed to save my friends. I forced myself to remember my mission, but I would be lying if I said that it wasn't difficult and scary. I even forgot my name…''
Sonic had no idea when a teardrop rolled down his muzzle, nor why Shadow embraced him tightly as if his life depended on it. Instead, he looked up at Shadow with a smile, despite the pain and numbness in his chest. ''So, if something like that happens again, please remember what kind of person I was, especially if I start acting differently.''
''I… I promise…'' Shadow whispered, still holding Sonic tightly in his arms. Despite the his expression not changing at all, he felt horrified. Having his own memories messed with, he understood better than anyone how frightening this experience was for Sonic. He was used to having forgotten everything about himself, only remembering fragments of his past until all pieces of the puzzle could finally be put together. He recalled how there were times when he couldn't care less about his memories, not wanting to be defined by them. But then, it was like a switch flipped, and he was suddenly obsessed with the desire to know everything about his past, to the point of madness. Those were two extremes he had been struggling with for a long time. In comparison, Sonic had all of his memories, but they were forcefully taken away from him piece by piece. One moment, he saw the faces of his friends, cheering him on, and in the next moment, there was nothing but blank space in his mind, the faces of his friends gone. Not only that, but the person he was was gone too.
Despite making this promise, Shadow was determined to never let anything like this happen to Sonic again. He didn't care what he had to do to prevent this; he would ensure Sonic's safety and happiness. However, that also reminded him of his own issue.
''In turn, I want you to promise me something,'' Shadow stated, with Sonic giving him a serious look.
''What is it?''
''If I ever lose myself… If I ever give into my anger and decide to destroy the world, I want you to stop me.''
''Why would you even do that?'' Sonic asked, not understanding why Shadow was making a request like that.
''Even though Black Doom is gone, I doubt I will ever be free from his influence. I also know what I'm capable of, so if I ever reach a point where I give into that darkness, I want you to stop me by any means necessary,'' Shadow stated solemnly.
''I refuse.''
''What?'' Shadow blinked, puzzled by Sonic's response. Sonic gave him a determined look.
''I said I refuse.''
''Why?''
''That's because I know you will never become someone consumed by anger,'' Sonic stated with conviction.
''You do remember that the first time we met that I tried to erase the world from existence,'' Shadow reminded him in a deadpan tone. Sonic just smiled.
''Sure, but it's not like either of us knew what was going on. However, now we do, and I'll make sure to stay by your side. If you ever feel like losing yourself, just tell me and we'll figure things out,'' Sonic assured him.
''You are putting too much faith in me,'' Shadow muttered, sighing.
''And you are putting too little faith in yourself,'' Sonic told him in a serious tone, reaching for Shadow's arm and tracing down the red stripe, which went to the tip of the dark hedgehog's middle and ring finger. ''You're better than you think you are. Don't sell yourself short.''
Shadow didn't respond, instead leaning over and kissing Sonic. The cobalt hedgehog was caught off guard by the sudden gesture, feeling a strange sensation in his chest flaring up and returning the kiss. This one was more earnest, with Sonic understanding the message Shadow wanted to convey. Both were thankful for each other and for their mutual support.
''What's wrong?'' Shadow asked after breaking off the kiss and noticing Sonic's pensive look.
''I was just thinking what we're going to the others,'' Sonic said, giving Shadow a mischievous smile. ''I doubt that we'll be keeping this relationship a secret.''
Shadow's ears pinned back. Right, he forgot about the fact that they would have to come clean to their friends and teammates. His expression then fell, morphing into a look of annoyance that caused Sonic to chuckle lightly.
''Lemme guess- it's Rouge.''
''You're right.'' Shadow was a bit astounded that Sonic guessed what was bothering him so easily, but on the other hand, it wasn't hard to come to that conclusion. Both knew that when it came to their respective friend groups, Tails, Amy and Knuckles would most likely show their support for them and be respectful of their privacy, while Omega wouldn't care at all unless it involved bloodshed. Rouge, on the other hand, would definitely hound them for the juicy details about their relationship, wanting to know how in the world they ended up together and also gathering ammunition to tease them relentlessly.
''You know, maybe they don't have to know,'' Sonic said. Even if he liked Rouge, he wasn't in the mood either to talk about his relationship with Shadow,… at least not until he got more comfortable. ''At least not right away.''
''So, you want to keep this a secret?'' Shadow asked, raising an eyebrow.
''Why not? In fact, I think it will be fun to not get caught together. We could even make it a challenge, see how long it takes any of them to notice,'' Sonic suggested.
''Hmph, that sounds interesting.'' Shadow grinned, finding himself intrigued by the proposal. Sonic hummed.
''If I have to give it a guess, I'd say that either Amy or Rouge will be first to notice. They're the most perceptive when it comes to this stuff. But, until then, it's on. Don't disappoint me, Shads,'' he said.
''You too, Faker,'' Shadow responded, with the two sealing the deal with another kiss. Unless the world was ending, they both wanted to spend their time together in an embrace.
xXx
''So, where to next?'' Sonic asked, his hands folded behind his hand.
It was the next day, with Shadow using Chaos Control to warp them away from the snowy mountainside to somewhere warmer. They were more than ready to continue with their journey with newfound vigor, but they were clueless about their next destination.
''Weren't you the tour guide with the itinerary?'' Shadow asked in a snarky tone.
''I lost it after getting side-tracked,'' Sonic said, snorting when the dark hedgehog rolled his eyes. ''We could pick up a dart board, write down names of various locations, then throw a dart to see where it lands.''
''Depending on your aim, we might be stuck at the dart board the whole day,'' Shadow replied in a mocking tone, with Sonic groaning in annoyance.
''Dude, my aim isn't that bad!''
''The target practice at Twinkle Park begs to differ.''
''Then why don't you try, Mr. Gun Expert?''
''Gladly, but first, we need to find a dart board,'' Shadow pointed out. Sonic looked around, noting how they were currently at a dense forest, meaning they didn't really have any way of finding one. However, Sonic remained confident.
''Then we'll just walk around until we come across a place where we can find a dart board,'' he said. Shadow sighed, being torn between pointing out how that would be a waste of time because they didn't even know whether they'll come across a settlement and just going along with Sonic's idea, since his rival-turned-boyfriend had a knack of finding adventure without even trying.
''You know, this place kinda does look familiar,'' Sonic stated, with Shadow tilting his head.
''Really?'' Truth to be told, he didn't think about their location when he used Chaos Control, simply focusing on warping them to a place that wasn't the mountainside.
''Yeah!'' Sonic replied with a bit more enthusiasm. ''If I'm right, they should be living close by. Com'n!''
Sonic grabbed Shadow's hand, dragging him along. Shadow noted how Sonic's excitement was quite infectious, the cobalt hedgehog looking forward to meeting whoever lived in the area, which left Shadow wondering who that person might be. He got his answer soon enough when they left the woods and entered a clearing, finding themselves in Forest Floral Village, but Sonic didn't stop until they came across a particular house, with a particular figure in the front watering the plants.
This person was a tall, cream-furred anthropomorphic rabbit with a white muzzle, a small brown nose, brown eyes, and a tuft of dark orange hair on her forehead. She was wearing a long lavender dress with a white trim at the bottom of the puffy sleeves and the skirt, a burgundy-fitted vest with golden buttons, a blue ascot, white gloves with gold cufflinks, burgundy low-heeled shoes with a yellow detail and gray soles, and pink lipstick. She was holding a watering can, looking up from the plants when she heard the two hedgehogs approaching.
''Oh, my, Sonic, Shadow! What a surprise! What are you two doing here?'' Vanilla asked. ''I didn't know that you were visiting.''
''We were in the area, so I had figured I might as well say 'Hi'. How are you?'' Sonic asked.
''I'm fine. I was just doing a bit of gardening,'' Vanilla said, only to notice Sonic looking around. ''Are you looking for Cream and Cheese?''
''Yeah. They aren't back, are they?'' Sonic asked. Vanilla shook her head.
''No, they still have not returned. Last I heard, they were with Amy and Sticks in Apotos. It is quite far away, but Amy assured me that she was taking care of them,'' Vanilla explained. ''What about you two? Are you also on a road trip?''
''I suppose our journey could be described as one,'' Shadow answered in a polite manner, glancing at Sonic, who looked a little disappointed that his friends haven't returned yet. He felt bad for the cobalt hedgehog, realizing that he probably forgot that the two were still away. Considering how they were in Apotos, it would still be a while until they returned. ''If you're busy, we don't want to intrude.''
''No, not at all,'' Vanilla replied with a smile. ''Do you two want tea? I would like to hear where you have been.''
Sonic and Shadow exchanged glances, then nodded, with Sonic adding, ''Sure. We'll help you prepare everything.''
The three then walked into the house, with Vanilla preparing the tea and snacks, while Sonic and Shadow set up the table in the garden after being greeted by Chocola, Vanilla's companion Chao. They sat around the table, with Sonic launching into a description of the places they had visited so far and Vanilla and Chocola listening to him intently. Shadow remained silent, interrupting one or two times when Sonic got something wrong or exaggerated the situation. He did take note how his rival didn't mention the fact that he almost drowned or their time together at the cabin, staying true to the challenge they had.
''My, my, you've been through a lot,'' Vanilla commented, sipping her tea. Shadow took note of her glancing at the woods from time to time during Sonic's story.
''Are you waiting for someone?'' he asked, startling Vanilla.
''I have sent Gemerl to collect some blueberries for a pie I was baking, but he still hasn't returned. I'm getting a little worried that he is in trouble,'' Vanilla admitted.
''Knowing Gemerl, he should be able to deal with anything that comes his way,'' Sonic started, then give Vanilla a confident smile. ''If you want, Shadow and I could go search for him.''
''You would do that? Thank you so much,'' Vanilla said, clasping her hands in gratitude.
''It's no big deal,'' Sonic said, him and Shadow standing up. ''We'll be back with Gemerl before you know it.''
The two hedgehogs then left, dashing towards where Vanilla had pointed them to. They entered the woods once more, finding a path that led to blueberry bush, only to find an abandoned overturned basket with blueberries in it and no robot in sight.
''This is concerning,'' Shadow commented, looking at the scene and crouching down to inspect the footprints he spotted on the soft soil, followed by a gaze at the scorching marks on some of the trees. ''There was someone else here. They may have gotten into a fight with Gemerl.''
''Do you think that Gemerl had been kidnapped?'' Sonic asked, looking at the scorch marks. A pit was forming in his stomach.
''I don't have the answer to that, but it is a possibility,'' Shadow said in a grim tone. ''It seems that he may have been ambushed and got into a fight with his attacker, hence the scorch marks. But whoever took him managed to somehow overpower him.''
''We need to find Gemerl,'' Sonic stated, his eyes narrowing. Shadow stood up, nodding.
Things were about to get serious.

Sonic
The blue hedgehog was at home, lounging on the couch, enjoying some chili dogs while watching TV. You were sitting beside him, just keeping him company. It seemed like a peaceful day as always, until his daughter approached, her little hands behind her back, her green eyes sparkling with excitement.
Sonic raised an eyebrow at her in confusion.
“What’s up, kiddo?” he asked, finishing his chili dog and licking his fingers.
“Dad, Mom, there’s a boy I like at school,” the little hedgehog said, completely excited, a big smile on her muzzle.
Sonic’s eyes widened at that moment, and he felt a strange chill run up his stomach, an odd sensation washing over him. A thousand thoughts ran through his head as he stared at his daughter blankly. Finally, he let out a small smile, crossing his arms.
“Oh yeah…? And what’s so great about him, huh?” Sonic sat up straight on the couch, fully focusing on her, one eyebrow slightly raised.
You just watched with a smile on your face, obviously noticing that he wasn’t thrilled about the idea, but he was still handling it in a calm and relaxed way.
“He’s cute, Dad, and he’s nice. He plays with me during recess,” she said softly, a blush appearing under her fur.
“And is he cooler than your dad?” he asked, his tone a bit more serious.
“Hmm, I think you’re cooler, Dad,” she answered after thinking for a moment.
“If he’s not cooler than me, then there’s no reason for you to like him,” Sonic replied with a smug grin. You let out a nasal laugh at their interaction.
While your daughter made an incredulous expression, Sonic turned to you and whispered, “If I knew this stuff started so early, I would've put her in a school for babies.” His tone was way too serious, making you playfully punch his arm.
“Sonic, no. This was bound to happen sooner or later. We just have to be careful and deal with it.”
“My daughter is way too young to like someone…” He narrowed his eyes.
“Sonic… It’s just a school crush,” you laughed, while he just sighed.
“Fine, but I’m meeting the kid first.” He closed his eyes, accepting the situation. You nodded at him before turning to your daughter.
“We’re happy that you like someone at school, sweetheart, just be careful, okay? And if he ever does anything to hurt you, don’t hesitate to tell us.” The little girl’s eyes lit up with happiness at your words, and she eagerly nodded.
“If he does anything to hurt my daughter… I’m gonna run around him so fast that he’ll be sent flying,” Sonic murmured.
“Is this all just jealousy?” You laughed, intertwining your arm with his. The hedgehog simply gave you a little grin.
--*--
The next day, despite your requests for him not to do it, Sonic went to casually pick up your daughter from school. He leaned against a wall, waiting for her to come out of the classroom. When the little hedgehog finally walked out with her backpack on, her green eyes widened upon seeing her father.
“Hey, kiddo, how’s it going?” He flashed a big grin, approaching her, placing one hand on his waist as he looked at her. “So, where’s this boy you like?” he asked casually, hiding the fact that he had already been keeping an eye on practically every boy walking out of the classroom, analyzing each one meticulously to see if any of them seemed decent—and if any of them were the boy she liked.
The little girl looked timidly at her father before shifting her gaze toward a boy at the end of the hallway. Sonic’s eyes followed hers, landing on a small Mobian opossum who was walking clumsily while chewing gum. The boy stopped, pulled the gum out of his mouth, stuck it under a bench, then spat on the floor right after. He then walked up to another boy and pushed him for no particular reason.
Sonic watched the scene, jaw slightly open. He wasn’t sure if this was just a normal kid or a reformed criminal who somehow ended up there.
The blue hedgehog clenched his fists tighter and tighter with every bad thing the kid did. He narrowed his eyes and turned to his daughter.
“Hey, kiddo… You sure it’s that one?” She nodded, making her father sigh. “You don’t wanna pick someone else? Look at that one, he looks shy and nice.” He gestured toward another classmate sitting timidly on a bench in the hallway.
“No, Dad, I like that one,” she said determinedly. Sonic was in complete disbelief at how his daughter could like a kid who had so much potential to be a future villain. But he understood that young love was incomprehensible.
“That one? Your dad doesn’t approve of him, got it? Let’s go home.” He casually grabbed her hand.
She pouted at him for a second but then started walking normally. Until she suddenly stopped.
“Wait, Dad, I forgot my water bottle in the classroom!” She quickly ran back to grab it.
Sonic crossed his arms, leaning against the wall, watching the boy from afar. The little troublemaker walked past a girl, snatching a juice box from her hand before running off. Sonic furrowed his brow, but then a little smirk appeared on his face.
The blue hedgehog closed his eyes, keeping his relaxed stance as the boy ran past him. Suddenly, the little opossum tripped. The smug grin on his young face vanished into panic as he crashed onto the floor, sprawling out as the juice spilled all over him.
“Oh, what a shame, champ,” the hedgehog murmured. “Pulling that kind of stuff on others isn’t cool, you know?” The boy shivered slightly at Sonic’s words but remained on the ground.
Sonic kept his eyes closed, his smirk widening slightly, until he heard the familiar sound of his daughter’s footsteps. He opened his eyes to see her smiling.
“All set, Dad…” She paused, looking down at the floor and at the juice-covered boy. Her gaze shifted to Sonic, now filled with suspicion.
“What’s wrong, kiddo?” He smiled at her, holding her hand.
“Dad…?” She looked between him and the crying, sprawled-out boy.
“It wasn’t my fault, he just learned his lesson. Let’s go home.” He started walking, stepping around the boy. The little girl glanced back for a few seconds before looking at her father, narrowing her eyes.
“He deserved it, didn’t he…?” she asked softly. Sonic raised an eyebrow at her.
“…Hmm, yeah, quite a lot. But I’m not stopping you from liking him, kiddo. You’re free to choose… but that doesn’t mean I won’t feel like teaching him a lesson every now and then if he keeps acting like that.”
The little girl just smiled at him, shaking her head. Then, she suddenly hugged him tightly. Sonic stopped in surprise, but soon, his arms wrapped around her.
“If you don’t like him… Then I trust you, Dad. I won’t like that boy anymore.” Sonic felt an unexpected wave of relief and a deep warmth in his heart at her words.
“That’s good, kiddo. That makes me happy. Now let’s go home.”
And so, the two of them peacefully walked home, laughing and talking along the way.

Shadow
The black hedgehog was in the kitchen with you, helping prepare dinner. He kept his usual serious expression, focused on making a sauce. But deep down, it was clear that he was enjoying spending that time with you.
Then, suddenly, you both heard the sound of little footsteps approaching. Your daughter stopped in front of the table, dragging a chair close to you and sitting down. You both turned to look at her.
She had a happy expression, her little legs swinging since they were too short to reach the floor.
"Mom, Dad, I have something cool to tell you. I like a boy at school," she said, cheerful and excited.
You smiled at her, then turned to Shadow, already aware that his reaction might not be the best. The hedgehog had the same serious expression as before, but his brow was subtly furrowed, and his arms were crossed tightly. Before you could say anything, Shadow responded seriously.
"Who?" he asked, expressionless.
"He's just a nice boy, Dad. He helped me carry some books," she said happily, holding her hands together.
"This is an unnecessary distraction," he said briefly.
"Shadow, be nice," you nudged him lightly with your elbow, to which he only responded with a characteristic "hmph." You knew you would have to talk to both of them later to handle this situation better.
You just hoped things wouldn’t get too complicated with Shadow.
Later that night, you woke up to get a glass of water and noticed that the black hedgehog wasn’t beside you in bed. Instead, he was at his desk with the lamp on, writing something. Approaching him, you stopped nearby, watching as he scribbled things in his notebook.
"Shadow… What are you doing?" you asked quietly.
He turned his attention to you, shifting his gaze briefly.
"Gathering information," he answered, returning to his writing.
Growing curious and confused, you decided to peek at what he was writing. Your eyes widened when you saw everything.
The paper had the name of the boy your daughter had mentioned earlier, his address, a background check on his parents, and several other highly personal details. At that moment, you started regretting ever teaching Shadow how to use social media and search things online.
"Shadow, don’t you think this is too much? It’s just a school crush, it’s normal at her age, you know? There’s nothing to worry about, she’ll probably change her mind soon."
"When it comes to my daughter’s safety, nothing is too much," he said with determination, continuing to write.
"Just take it easy, okay? This is completely normal." You turned to leave the room and get your water. The black hedgehog only let out a deep sigh, placing his pen back on the desk before getting up and returning to bed to rest.
--*--
The next morning, Shadow casually stood at the entrance of the school, waiting for his daughter. He closed his eyes. It would still take a little while for her to finish class. Crossing his arms, he remained deep in thought, then suddenly used Chaos Control, reappearing inside the school, hidden in a dark corner of the hallway. He stayed there, observing. He already knew the boy’s face, so it would be easy to recognize him.
After waiting for some time, a group of boys passed by, and in the middle of them was the boy his daughter liked. He was the shortest of the group, walking awkwardly and shyly.
That’s when the boy looked to the side and saw a pair of red eyes and the imposing figure of Shadow standing there, staring at him. The boy let out a small yelp, stepping back, trembling, before turning around and running down the hallway crying.
Shadow raised an eyebrow, confused by the boy’s reaction. Then, he heard someone clearing their throat behind him. The hedgehog turned around and saw his daughter standing there with her arms crossed and a serious expression. His ears twitched to the sides.
"Dad, why are you scaring the boy I like?" she asked quietly.
"I wasn’t…" he started to answer, but she cut him off.
"It doesn’t matter if you were or not, you’re being scary to kids right now, Dad." She put her hands on her hips, looking at him sternly.
Shadow sighed. The little girl stepped closer, taking his hand.
"I know you’re trying to protect me, Dad, but can you go easy on him? He’s… sensitive and gets scared easily," the small black hedgehog said softly, pulling him along as they left the school.
"He doesn’t seem like a threat, but I’ll keep watching… If he hurts you… He’ll learn a lesson he’ll never forget," Shadow said in a threatening tone, narrowing his eyes as he followed his daughter.
"Dad!" she said, exasperated, as they walked away from the school. It would be harder than she thought to convince Shadow that this was something completely normal.

Silver
The white hedgehog was sitting on the couch with you, holding you in a side embrace while his other hand held a book. He was reading peacefully when your daughter appeared at the doorway of the living room. She looked very happy as she took light steps toward you and then sat on the couch, hugging Silver.
"Dad, Mom, I have some news to tell you," she said sweetly, looking completely delighted.
"Hm? News? Tell us, sweetheart," Silver said softly, closing the book and setting it aside as he ran a hand through her quills.
"I like a boy at school."
At those words, Silver completely froze, his golden eyes widening in surprise. Then, he started shaking his head vigorously.
"No, no, no! You're way too young for that!"
"But Dad, all my friends like boys too," she frowned at him.
"But you don’t have to, you don’t have to copy everything they do, sweetheart."
You placed a hand on his shoulder, making Silver pause and look at you.
"Your dad is right, sweetie. You don’t need to start liking boys just because your friends do. Focus on your studies for now," you said softly, and your daughter paid close attention.
"Yeah, besides, dating at your age isn’t a good idea. There are relationship problems, we don’t know the boy, we don’t know if he has bad intentions, he might hurt you, he could leave you for another girl…" Silver was counting on his fingers until you cleared your throat to get his attention.
"What your dad means is that at your age, it's okay to like someone, but dating is more complicated. There are many problems and things that only older people can fully understand."
You tried to summarize what Silver was saying. The little hedgehog simply nodded briefly, understanding the situation. Silver let out a small sigh of relief.
However, that didn't put an end to his worries.
You had just tucked your daughter into bed when you returned to your shared bedroom and found Silver on top of the bed, glued to his laptop. One hand rested on his chin as he frowned in deep concentration.
Curious, you sat down beside him, glancing at what he was searching. The sight made you let out a nasal laugh.
"At what age do girls start liking boys? Is this normal?" You repeated what was written in the search bar. Silver turned to you with a concerned look.
"I need to be sure… I also don’t want her getting involved with someone dangerous," he clenched his fists, determined.
"Silver… She just likes a boy, it’s just a childhood thing."
"But she’s too young!" he said, clearly worried.
"It’s normal, completely normal," you reassured him, closing his laptop and placing it on the bedside table. "Let’s sleep, stop worrying about this."
Even though you tried to comfort him, Silver was still tense. It was obvious he wasn’t prepared for this.
Lying down beside you, he couldn’t close his eyes, thoughts swirling in his head. One last idea crossed his mind before he finally managed to relax enough to sleep.
"Am I overreacting? …No. I’d better see for myself."
--*--
Silver approached the school, his face set with determination. He was determined to find out who the boy was and see him with his own eyes.
The white hedgehog stopped in front of the school, waiting for his daughter to come out. His golden eyes scanned every child in the area until they finally met his daughter’s. He smiled.
She ran up and hugged his leg.
"Hi, Daddy. Look, that’s the boy I was talking about."
Silver’s eyes followed where she was pointing and landed on a boy sitting on a bench, reading a book. The only problem was that the boy looked a few years older than her.
"I still think you should wait at least 20 more years before liking boys," he said, crossing his arms. "Have you two… held hands?" Silver asked cautiously.
"…No? Dad, I just like him, that doesn’t mean he knows about it or likes me back."
"Even so, I need to know all the details…" He gently held her hand, turning to head home. Then, he sighed briefly.
"He seems… harmless… But if he ever hurts you, I swear I’ll make him float in the air for a whole month," Silver narrowed his eyes, glancing back.
"Dad, are you jealous?"
"Jealous? Me? No… I mean… That doesn’t matter right now! What matters is that I’m protecting you!" Silver immediately blushed at her accusation.
She only giggled and hugged her white hedgehog father again.
"I love you, Dad. Thank you for caring so much about me."
Silver completely melted at her words, letting out a small, appreciative murmur at his daughter's affection. At least he knew she would always be the best daughter he could ever have.

Scourge
Scourge was in the bathroom brushing his teeth. He had just woken up and hadn’t even put on his jacket yet. From the corner of his eye, he saw his eldest daughter skipping to the bathroom door, stopping there with a smug little grin.
He looked at her, not stopping his brushing, waiting to see what she would say. Soon after, the youngest appeared behind her sister, a baby bottle in her mouth, her blue eyes focused on her father.
“Hey, Dad, I want to tell you something.” Her little grin only grew, making it clear she was very happy. “I like a boy at school.”
Almost immediately, Scourge’s eyes widened, and he choked on the toothpaste, coughing uncontrollably as he turned to the sink, scooping water with his ungloved hands and rinsing his mouth. Then, he spun around, walking up to his daughter, still breathless.
"Who’s this punk? Who da hell he think he is?" Scourge said, irritated, crossing his arms.
“Dad, I’m the one who likes him, he doesn’t even know about it.” His daughter frowned.
"I don’t give a damn. I sure as hell didn’t authorize him to make ya like ‘im." he said quickly.
“What?” The little girl raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"Oh, so my baby’s already gettin’ herself a boyfriend now? Big freakin’ deal, ya barely know how ta tie ya damn shoelaces!"
That was when you happened to pass by the hallway, stopping to check the commotion, looking at Scourge curiously.
He pointed at your daughter.
"She’s got a crush on some kid at school!" he said indignantly.
“Yes? That’s normal…” you replied, smiling at him.
"Ya kiddin’ me, right?" he muttered, his ears lowering slightly.
“I’m completely serious.” You let out a nasal laugh at his reaction.
“Come on, Dad, you don’t even know him,” she said with a smug little smile.
"And I don’t wanna!" He crossed his arms again, clearly uncomfortable.
You tried pulling him away, giving him time to calm down and process the situation better, but he remained on the couch, arms crossed, sulking.
“Scourge, you don’t need to act like this just because your daughter has a crush at school.”
"…I’m gonna snap dat little punk in half…" he muttered threateningly. You grabbed his ear firmly, making him hiss in pain.
“No, you’re not. Leave the boy alone.”
"Ain’t no way! No suitor's survivin’ this. And what if dey’re delinquents, huh? Ya think I’ma let my girls run ‘round wit’ some two-bit punks? Hell no!" He looked at you, exasperated. You simply blinked at him, staring seriously before bursting into laughter.
“Scourge… Have you ever looked in a mirror?”
"Listen, I know my type, and THAT’S exactly why I ain’t lettin’ my girls anywhere near a damn delinquent!" he said with determination, making you laugh even harder.
--*--
Scourge stood in front of the school, arms crossed and wearing a scowl, sunglasses covering his eyes. His daughter appeared at the entrance, running toward him happily.
“What’s up, Dad?” She got close and exchanged a little fist bump with him, waiting to head home, but he remained still, pushing his glasses up onto his forehead.
"Where’s the damn kid?" he asked in a low, menacing voice.
“Dad, I don’t want you to kill him… Let’s go home.” She grabbed his hand, trying to pull him away.
"I swear, I ain't gonna touch ‘im, kiddo, just point me in the right direction…" His tone was obviously threatening.
“Dad, you’re going to scare him.”
"That’s his problem, not mine. I’m gonna be his worst nightmare."
“Dad, I’m telling Mom if you kill him.”
Scourge froze at her threat. His shoulders tensed as he turned to face his daughter.
"That little bastard’s lucky I ain’t in da mood ta get locked up again." He held her hand, finally starting to walk home.
“My little sister likes a boy at her preschool too, did you know that?”
Scourge stopped in his tracks, his jaw dropping.
"Ain't no damn brat takin’ my princesses away from me." He looked at them with determination. Then, he just closed his eyes and sighed. "I’ll be watchin’ ‘em real close… If any of ‘em even breathe funny ‘round ya, I swear, this world ain’t gonna be safe for ‘em no more…" the green hedgehog said in a low, gravelly voice before continuing to walk.
"And listen here—ya better be ready to throw hands. If some punk tries anythin’ and I ain’t ‘round, ya punch first, ask questions later."
The little girl giggled, nudging her father with her elbow.
He knew his daughters were growing up, he knew these things would happen. But Scourge didn’t want them to, and he would do everything in his power to make sure they stayed far away from boys for as long as possible.

Sonic and Shadow spending the night together laying down in a field and looking at the stars and talking but eventually Sonic falls asleep and Shadow carries him back to Rouges place
A sweet one to end it on.
“Is it that one?” Sonic asked,
“No,” Shadow said,
“What about that one?” He asked again,
“I told you, you’ll know when you see it.” Shadow said with a chuckle.
The two were laying out in a field looking up at the stars, Sonic trying to find the ARK. Shadow had told him it would be visible on a beautiful night like tonight.
It was always a beautiful sight seeing the moon glow brightly, even the broken debris from the laser Robotnik shot at the moon taking a chunk out of it all seemed to glow vibrantly.
“They look so different down here, the stars.” Sonic said,
“I feel the same, it’s almost like they look more lively.” Shadow said,
“I could stare at them all night.” Sonic said with a yawn. “Oh! There it is!” Sonic said, pointing to the ARK. Its face-like appearance glowed just as much as the moon, but the fact that it had a similar appearance to a certain evil genius made it stand out even more. “Man, that must be a family ego thing.” Sonic said with a chuckle.
“Sometimes I wonder if Maria would have an odd logo like that.” Shadow said with a sigh as Sonic let out a soft laugh.
“Now I’m trying to envision it.” Sonic said with another yawn, Shadow knew this was going to happen. But Sonic stubbornly stayed just to see the ARK. Not that he’d seen it his body already stopped fighting the exhaustion.
“You can see the constellations much easier on earth.” Shadow said with a soft and relaxed tone.
“Uh huh?” Sonic said, his eyelids slightly drooping.
“Yes, from here you can see Orion. Orion is very useful as an aid to locating other stars. If you go south east from his belt you can find Sirius.” Shadow continued to ramble until he noticed the soft sounds of snoring coming from next to him.
He sits up, seeing Sonic sleeping soundly. His partner looked beautiful sleeping amongst the flowers; it almost felt like a crime to have to move him. But a small shiver proves Shadow wrong. Gently lifting Sonic from the cold ground immediately curling into him with a loving purr.
Seeing Sonic sleep was a rare thing. He’d sleep just like anyone else but in the privacy of his home. Feeling too vulnerable to sleep out in the open. That is until recently. Sonic had become relaxed around his friends, knowing that he had grown to trust them all warmed Shadow’s heart.
He was so happy to see how far Sonic had come. Hopeful that the future will continue to bring out more of who he truly is.

Ya'll... I just watched the new Sonic movie (Sonic 3) and I have to say... I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Me ranting about it after the cut!!
SONIC 3 SPOILERS!!
1) Okay, so, first of all. The movie was amazing. I felt so giddy and excited when I was sitting in the movie theate, just waiting for the next thing to happen.
2) I had to hold back my tears when Tom got brutally punched by Shadow, mainly at hoe Sonic reacted at that... poor boy thought he lost another parent:( I didn't want to cry in front of of my brothers. (They would've bullied me bc they always do)
2) Maria was sososososo pretty!!! I really wished that we could've seen more of the sibling dynamic between her and Shadow, but I honestly loved the relationship they had.
4) My boy Tails should've had more screen time though...💔 Along with knuckles...💔 (I understand they already had enough going on in the movie, and I think if they did what I wanted, it probably would've made the movie uncomfortably cramped)
5) TAILS LOOKED SO CUTE WITH THE HELMET ON IN THE HELECOPTER ATVTHE BEGINNING OMG⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️ I mentally agreed with Agent Stone when he said Tails was adorable, because he is.
6) Honestly, kinda wished Stone and Tails built up a friendship between them. Would've been fun to see them interact more! (Again, same thing I said earlier in nr.4)
7) I actually thought about this before seeing the movie. If I remembered correctly, the movie is based of Sonic adventure 2 (I believe) And Amy Rose was the one who comforted Shadow and got him to turn from evil to good? (I THINK. I SAW A PLAY THROUGH LIKE 10 YEARS AGO, DON'T YELL AT ME😭) So, I wondered how the would go about this. Honestly, the fact that Sonic comforted Shadow was a little odd to me, but what Sonic said was sweet. Since this is the movies we're talking about, it's on brand that Sonic was comforting him, since basically every single live action Sonic movie has him comforting SOMEBODY. Honestly, I liked it.
8) And... THE WAY MR. OLD REBOTNIC (can't remember name💔) GOT KILLED!?!?!? WHAT!?!? YOU'RE TELLING ME HE FOT STABBED IN THE BUTT BY A SUPER POWERED ALIEN HEDGEHOG QUIL, GOT LUNCHED UP, AND GOT INCINERATED BY A DAMN SHEILD!?!? Woah. Imagine telling other people how you died and someone says THIS to you??? My one brother quite literally looked at me like this when that happened: "" (my other brother laughed his arse off)
9) And the final message Robotnic gave Stone?? Omg, you can NOT tell me they didn't have SOMETHING going on over there....
10) Finally, the end credit scene... METAL SONIC AND AMY???? ARAGARAGATSGA!!!! Sigh, Why must I wait for the 4th movie to come out... 😔 (PLEASE GIVE REVERSE SONAMY IN THE NEW MOVJE OLEASE PLEASE PLEAS PLEASE PLEA) Also, when Amy revealed herself a little boy (who had a Sonic CAPE mind you) yelled out "IT'S AMY!!!" He might be a bigger fan then me chat... (I forgot my Tails plush 😔)
11) Fun mini fact about me, I'm not much of a Shadow fan (Don't come at me) so I've never been too interested in him. However, the movie got me much more interested in him, and Shadow is now up there with the others. (Also made me feel much more for the poor boy :<)
12) Overall, the movie was literally the best one I have seen in a WHILE. Even though the movie had a lot going on, I still felt immersed in the story the whole way through. Character development was was amazing, Sonic crashing out was SO COOL??? Tails and Knuckles trying to stop him was just as amazing. Tails looking like a scared kid while Sonic and Knuckles were disagreeing tugged SO HARD onto my heart strings💔 I really recommend the movie, it was a great watch. I do however recommend watching the first two movies before watching the third one.
PLEASE DONT COME AT ME!!!
I am simply a teenage girl who's a little obsessed with the STH franchise and movies.
Also, I am not a proper movie critic. Please don't take this stuff too seriously 🙏🙏 Like I said, I'm simply a teenage girl who likes Sonic.

How Sweet That Taste of Remembrance
Tumblr media
Ships: Past Lancelot/Sonic, Past Sally/Sonic (mentioned, not focused), Sonadow
Warnings: N/A
AO3 L!nk in the Comments!
Sonic had written the letter more times than he could count. Practicing his words over and over as he tried to find what to say and how to say it. How was he supposed to even write something like this?
How did he tell his husband in the past that he was suddenly shot forward into a future where he and everyone they knew were long gone? How did he explain his eventual decision to stay…
It was a lot. A lot of emotions and nowhere near enough words. Too many words and none of them were what he needed.
It took him months to write the letter. That part didn’t really stress him out. If his plan worked, he could leave it for Lance the very morning the knight would have woken up to an empty bed.
An empty bed… Sonic’s bed had also been empty.
Sonic was never one for serious relationships. He could count on his hand how many he’d had and with those same fingers how long they’d lasted. In a lot of cases it was a mutual understanding when they ended. Sonic was just too much for a lot of people.
Sally had always kept up with him in a way few could. She was a lot like Lance, if he was honest. They both grounded him, kept him from floating off into the clouds, never to be seen again. He saw the same spark in their eyes when Sonic would banter with them, doing or saying something just to get a rise. Even when it worked, both of them were eager to snap back with something just as strong. Worthy opponents in both wit and strength.
Neither of them took it to heart when Sonic ran off for days on end. Neither of them questioned when he came back, needing help brushing the leaves and flowers and twigs from his spines. Both of them set him free knowing he would come back to them. Just as well as both of them would stake his feet to the ground when they knew he needed it.
He always knew he had a type but this was starting to get ridiculous. Especially when he started to recognize his most recent target of affections. Of course, there were a few key points that made him a bit more uncomfortable about it all.
Shadow was also a lot like Lance.
Not just in personality as Sally was but in physicality as well. Of course they weren’t the exact same.
Shadow’s fur was a darker, almost night black where Lance was closer to a smokey grey. Shadow like the dark of his name sake, Lance like the metal of his. Their stripes were similar, both a nice red, though Lance’s were thinner. Their eyes were also both red but Shadow’s were bright and alien while Lance’s were a deep burgundy. And Shadow was alien. Very alien. Not in any way Sonic disliked. There was this otherworldly beauty to the details of Shadow’s features that made him stick out in their own way. His eyes shined brighter than normal. His claws and fingers just a bit longer.
They were similar but not exact. Sometimes Sonic wondered if there was a chance the hedgehog DNA used was from Lance’s bloodline. If that would somehow explain the similarities.
However, even in these thoughts, Sonic concluded that his mourning was still ongoing and any relationship he might want to pursue with Shadow would need to be at a later date. Instead, he kept rewriting his letter.
It wasn’t that he didn’t have the words to say, in fact quite the opposite, he had plenty of words to say. Years worth of words to say. But this letter was too important, his emotions too strong. What was put in there would be the last not just Lance but anyone from that time would probably ever hear of him. It was why he was sitting and giving much longer pause to what was going into it.
He decided even if he wasn’t done with the letter, he would go ahead and get its delivery set up. After all, he didn’t see Silver all that often.
Sonic made sure that the next time Silver was in their neck of the woods that he pull the other to the side and officially ask him for help.
“You said you needed to ask me something?” Silver questioned with a light tilt of his head.
Sonic was leaning against the wall with a nonchalance that was pretty common for him. He gave a nod and a hum. “I, uh, well I need a favor,” he started with.
“A favor?” Silver questioned in return. “What kinda favor?”
Sonic chewed on the inside of his lip in thought. He hadn’t really thought about how he would go about asking without having to explain way more than he wanted to.
“There’s this… letter I need sent out.”
Silver frowned and crossed his arms. “I’m not a post office, Sonic,” he bit.
Sonic groaned and let his head fall against the wall behind him. “It’s a time travel thing, Silver.”
“Oh,” Silver muttered, dropping his arms back to his side. “Wait, you need to time travel mail a letter?”
The speedster sighed and ran a hand along the back of his neck. “Somethin’ like that,” he mumbled. “Listen, I really can’t explain it all but… I need you to go into the past and put down a letter for someone. Could you do that for me?”
Silver’s frown kept as he looked at Sonic before looking down at his own feet. His hands found his hips as he gave a soft sound of frustrated consideration. “I dunno… Sending a letter back in time like that could cause major disruptions to the timeline.”
“What if—” Sonic hesitated with his next words. He needed to convince Silver to do this without telling him the whole story. But the first thought he had to do just that he really didn’t like. “What if I let you read the letter before you take it? You can decide if it’s gonna cause a problem or not.”
Silver looked back up at him with a questioning brow. “Why is this so important to you?”
“It… it just is,” Sonic mumbled. “Listen, Silv, I really can’t get into the details you kinda just gotta trust me with this one, okay?”
Silver’s frown didn’t really let up but his shoulders dropped just a hair and his eyes turned back towards the ground. When he finally did look back up at Sonic, it was with a drawn-out sigh. “I can read it first?”
Sonic nodded.
“Alright. I’ll do it.”
***
Sonic had forgotten about the letter.
‘Forgotten’ was a strong word. More like put it on the back burner. Every word he wrote felt like not enough and every paragraph was too much. He wasn’t really sure what to do. He decided that continuously stressing over it wasn’t gonna help either way. Silver had already agreed to take the letter when it was done and it could be dropped off the very morning Sonic disappeared so there wasn’t really that much of a time crunch. It just had to happen… eventually.
Eventually didn’t come as life continued to pass by. It was actually a while before Sonic even looked at the letter again. By then he had actually started dating Shadow.
They’d finally stopped dancing around each other and actually talked about their feelings. Since then things had been great. There wasn’t much of a honeymoon phase for them; they just weren’t that kinda people. They were happy to just keep being as they always were just with some added romance in the mix.
However, it was only a little under a year into their relationship before their first real hitch. Shadow learned about Lance.
Sonic had gotten sick right after the new year and was very lucky to have a loving and attentive boyfriend during the time. However, the fever that had plagued him caused his mind to cloud and any thought almost completely lost to static.
When Shadow had come up to him during one of these moments, in his lack of clarity, Sonic had for some reason confused him for Lance. Even to the point of calling him the wrong name.
He’d tried to wave it off as being delusional from his fever, but even he could tell that his lie was only making Shadow more anxious. The anxiety had clearly hit its peak when Shadow cornered him, trying to force him into telling the truth of the mysterious ‘Lance’.
But Sonic couldn’t say. He couldn’t find the words or even the heart to try and tell the story again. The fear of not being believed returned to him. The feelings he had let lie in the past coming back to haunt him. It was all just too much.
Sonic snapped at Shadow before running off.
That was when he picked the letter back up. He remembered having left it in his junk of a house and dug it out. He made his way off with it to Solaria. Somewhere far off that hopefully Shadow or anyone else wouldn’t think to look for him.
He sat with the letter under a tree that had just begun to start budding again in the early year. He read over what he had last written with a sigh. He remembered why he’d stopped writing it for a bit. The words had just stopped working properly. The letter was like alphabet soup to his addled mind. He doubted he would actually be able to work on it in such a state.
Sonic put it to the side and laid back against the grass. He thought about Lance and the kingdom. About all his friends he’d made and then had to leave behind. He wondered how their lives ended up. He knew the fate of the Grand Kingdom, lost to war and to time after the peak of his rule. There was nothing left but ruins.
The very ruins that when Sonic found himself back in his own time he ran to and dug through. He hardly even knew what he was looking for at the time. Maybe Caliburn? Some evidence of the knights? Maybe even something to prove that it hadn’t all been some wild dream the whole time…
He knew it couldn’t have been a dream. No matter how long he was left questioning it, there was just no way it could have been a dream. There was no way that whole part of his life he’d lived was just a figment of his imagination.
He picked the note up again and looked over it.
Maybe it was time to tell someone.
He thought about if Shadow would even believe him or not, but in all truth, he wasn’t sure it mattered anymore. If anyone would understand the emotional impact of losing a home and a family so suddenly, it was Shadow. Maybe he wouldn’t believe him, but Sonic trusted Shadow to not make fun of him or try to call him a liar.
There was no doubt in Sonic’s mind that if he told Shadow the truth that the other would listen. Maybe that was all that really mattered. Not someone to believe him, but for someone to genuinely listen to him.
So Sonic found Shadow.
He wasn’t expecting to find him at that old trailer. Shadow must have been looking for him anywhere he could think, even though Sonic himself hadn’t been to his and Tails’ old childhood squat in many years.
He gripped the hilt of his sword tighter as he ran up to face Shadow.
The conversation had gone well. Sonic didn’t explain nearly as much as he was planning to, the words just kept getting stuck somewhere inside him, but he explained enough to ease Shadow’s fears and to feel more at ease in himself as well.
And Shadow had believed him. Honestly and truly believed him. It was better than he had hoped by far. When they went home Sonic found a comfortable spot snuggled up against Shadow on his couch to calm down from the rush of emotions. He also thought about the letter.
After he’d left Shadow’s house Sonic pulled out the letter once more. He reread what he had and then grabbed a fresh paper and started again. Finally, he finished the letter. With a clear mind and a fresh heart he wrote down what would be the last words he would give to that part of his life.

When Sonic handed Silver the letter the other gave a raised eye ridge. “What’s this?” he asked.
“That letter I need you to deliver, remember?”
Recognition flashed on Silver’s face. “That was so long ago,” he sighed. “I’d forgotten…” He looked down at the letter and back at Sonic. There was clear hesitation in his expression.
Sonic waved a hand at him. “Go on,” he sighed. “Read it. Make sure it’s up to your time traveler standards.”
The look of hesitation didn’t leave but Silver flipped open the letter. His face changed the second his eyes landed on the page. He looked back up at Sonic but the blue hedgehog was keeping his own eyes to the side. Silver didn’t say anything. Instead, he continued to read.
After a moment he closed it again and sighed. “There’s nothing about the future in this, at least nothing that could cause a problem,” he finally said.
Sonic looked up at him. “So you’ll send it?”
Silver frowned but gave a nod. “I’ll need the exact date and place but… yeah. I can send it. It’s just… what is this all about, Sonic?”
Sonic met his eyes. He saw so many emotions he wasn’t even sure what to make of half of them. He ran a hand over the back of his neck before giving Silver a tired smile. “I’ll tell ya over a chili dog someday. Just not today, okay?”
That gave Silver pause but he nodded all the same.

Lancelot woke up to the lack of soft blue fur under his arm. It wasn’t that uncommon that Sonic would rise before him. Probably out with Gawain or Percival for a morning spar. Or even with the blacksmith just “hanging out” as he’d described it.
He raised from their bed and stretched out his arms, throwing a hand through his quills with a sigh. He’d gotten up to reach for his armor and start his day, but was quick to notice a folded paper with his name scrawled on it resting just atop the desk.
He walked to it and flipped it open to read.
My dearest Lancelot,
I know this letter will find you more confused than anything else, and I’m sorry for that. I guess even Merlina’s spells have a time limit on them. I found a way to get this letter to you as soon as possible. I wanted you to know that I’m safe and alive, but that I am gone.
I found myself waking up back in my own time, the life I held before I found myself in your hands. I do not believe there is any real way for me to come back to you without knowing the sort of magic Merlina practiced. And even if there was, it is with a heavy heart that I admit I have decided it’s best I stay here. It hurts to leave you, but The Grand Kingdom was not my time or my home. It needed me and I took care of it in those moments, but my home needs me too. The people and planet I left behind have always leaned on me and I can’t abandon them.
Leaving the kingdom without a king will have repercussions, I know. But I also know that it’s nothing you and the others can’t handle. I trust you all to find the right person to lead you and take the kingdom into prosperity. The history books tell of many great years for the kingdom to come and I know you will all prosper without me.
Tell the others of this letter. Tell them that I am safe and that their memories will be with me forever. Tell them that I wish them all the best and that the years our lives crossed paths were just as beautiful and important to me as any other.
The same goes to you.
Lancelot, my knight, you will stay close to my heart for the rest of my days. I don’t know what comes after in this life, but if you see me, know that you will always be a part of me. No matter who I meet and who I lay with in the future, I will always love you now as I did then. And please, do the same. Remember me, but do not let my loss end you. Keep moving forward, my love. Continue to live and to learn and thrive in your life and your time.
With Love,
Sonic
Lancelot held the letter to his chest and fell to his knees in tears.

Ok so I saw sonic the hedgehog 3 last night and I want spill my thoughts
SPOILERS BELOW
I really liked that Shadow was explicitly described and portrayed as a kid—he’s Sonic’s age (minus the 50 years in stasis, where he clearly didn’t age physically or mentally)… he was manipulated by Peepaw Robotnik, he was a hurt child that was used by the govt and later someone he considered something akin to family………
Anyway that scene of sonic and shadow sitting on the moon… ahh damn it makes me tear up to think about
Also I like that sonic isn’t perfect—I like that he decides he needs the use the master emerald, he goes back on his promise with knuckles and tails and is ready to actively fight his friends to get to it, both to stop the evildoers and to get revenge for his/their father… he leaves his team after promising they would always work together, and he realizes that what he’s doing is wrong, realized that killing shadow wouldn’t make Tom better, it wouldn’t reverse what happened, and it would only make him regret taking a life
And seeing that compassion, that ability to make a difficult choice, even in emotional turmoil, has such a profound effect on shadow, because suddenly he’s seeing someone going through something similar to him, who begins responding like him before… not. He sees an option, a path, that previously wasn’t even considered—forgiveness, moving on… etc
I also like that knuckles calls sonic out when they square up over the master emerald. He explicitly tells Sonic that he’s in no mental state to make such a drastic decision, but he trusts Sonic enough that he lets him get the emerald anyway, and despite not agreeing with his choice he still turns up with tails to help out at the end.
I really hope that shadow is not just dead now, though, because clearly they plan to continue this film series (metal Sonic and Amy seem to be coming next, based on the after credits scene)… I’d like to see shadow pulled into Sonic’s funky little family with two parent humans, a dog, and a handful of mutant alien animals…
Let shadow learn how to have a family again, to move on, to honor and remember Maria but live a fulfilling life because it would’ve made her happy to see him happy
Also let him get some mfing therapy
Oh, also, I really appreciate that they used the super shadow coloring from sonic adventure 2, where shadow is more of a silver-gold rather than the bright yellow-gold of sonic (shadow’s coloring is way more like Sonic’s in the shadow the hedgehog game, and I kind of hate it)
Really my only complaint: about the film, besides them not hinting at or showing shadow surviving (please don’t kill my blorbo) {Edit; I have since seen a second end credit scene that I missed—thank you to everyone for sharing!! My boy lives!!!), is the fact that Rouge is just not around… which like, she absolutely wasn’t necessary, plenty of characters are/were omitted but I feel like with the pattern of introducing characters in pairs (Tails and Knuckles in 2, Metal Sonic and Amy in presumably 4), it’s weird that Shadow didn’t have some other character introduced in the same movie… Rouge could have helped with the infiltration of G.U.N., for example… but again she’s not necessary and it doesn’t really take away from the movie.
Final complaint is the G.U.N. lady, her name escapes me… the one who acted as essentially a secondary antagonist and was trying to secure the weapon keys. Tom gets the key from her by impersonating the other G.U.N. guy who died, and that’s the last we see of her!! Feels unresolved imo (though I wouldn’t be surprised if we see her again in 4, perhaps accusing Sonic of crimes committed by metal, maybe leading to a similar city escape-framed by lookalike situation that happens in adventure 2 with Sonic and shadow)…
Oh and last thing: I do think the movie spent a bit too much time on the Robotnik’s… it could’ve used a bit more shadow screen time imo…
And those are my unorganized thoughts fkejjdjndidkejs fun movie def recommend watching it
