I understand now, after I have loved, why did Orpheus turn around.
After Eurydice died he truly understood that he could not live without her, so he went to the underground to bring her back. And I can see the moment he is walking from the underground and the realisiation hits him suddenly, that there is a chance that Eurydice is not walking behind, that it is all just a trick, and most importantly that maybe he is walking in to a world without Eurydice. That is the moment he turns around.
The love he held for Eurydice was so big that just the chance of walking in to world without her was a torment for him. He turned around because he knew that he would rather face underground than earth without Eurydice. Rather death with his true love than life on his own.

bartylus!! Thoughts?
they make me sick in the head.. sick i tell you.. but i’ve compiled a little collection of posts for you about them <3 + there’s a lot of stuff under my /bartylus tag!!
this is a fic im currently writing but honestly im writing it so slowly that im starting to doubt it’ll ever be posted. it’s loosely based on the orpheus and eurydice myth but darker. long story short barty brings him back after the cave and it changes nothing in the narrative. miserable <3
this is a poem by richard siken that drives me crazy and is also a huge inspiration for my bartylus opheus/eurydice au……. like: ā€Okay, so I’m the dragon. Big deal. You still get to be the hero.ā€ and ā€You see, I take the parts that I remember and stitch them back together to make a creature that will do what I say or love me back.ā€ and ā€The entire history of human desire takes about seventy minutes to tell. Unfortunately we don’t have that kind of time.ā€ - but honestly. the entire poem makes me feel sick to my stomach about bartylus
bartylus moodboard i made a very long time ago….. when i was first getting into them….. i should really make another (better) one…..
and!!!! i read this bartylus microfic by @carniferous a while back which made me fucking choke. i hadn’t thought about bartylus in a while because i’ve been absolutely insane over over ships (bellucius, lurthur, maryjames, tl, etc…). like i genuinely had to lay down after reading it and i frequently go back to it still to reread it. ā€you were hardly the first to ask,ā€ ā€i didn’t ask,ā€ like are you JOKINGGTTTTGGG. i think about it sometimes randomly at work and my head starts spinning. genuinely insane. please follow dil and read their fics and microfics. insane insane insane
bartylus makes me insane. i used to be sort of anti bartylus as a ship ???? like it just didn’t make sense to me at all for a while and then something just. clicked. probably thanks to @stillagoodwitch…… my favorite version of them is canon bartylus i think. everythings miserable and awful, but they’re also just teenage boys at magical boarding school. like yeah, sirius said he hated regulus during winter break, but barty’s waiting for him at kings cross with a black eye from his father but he’s also sporting a huge grin when he sees reg. like.. they also had fun and that drives me fucking insane. they stay up late in the common room making each other laugh and everything else (everything that’s about to come) is just background noise. like…. they’re just boys.. despite everything….

between classes, art club, and booking solo time in for himself, hoetaek spends a lot of time in seongnam’s art rooms. it’s true he could paint in his own room, but there’s only so much space in his dorm. here he has all the supplies he could need within an arms reach, plus the smell of paint and canvas that fills the room provides a much better atmosphere for creativity. also he can blast music in here without his neighbours getting annoyed.Ā
musical soundtracks are usually his music of choice. it’s his favourite kind of music, stemming from his time being a tiny bit of a theatre kid in high school. he’s not the greatest performer, but he enjoys singing along when he’s by himself. also, he draws inspiration from the incredible musical storytelling of these shows for his art. sometimes directly, and sometimes they just help him get into a creative mindset.Ā
the soundtrack of the day is hadestown, a more recent favourite of hoetaek’s, and it plays loudly from his bluetooth speaker as he works on a painting inspired by the greek myth of orpheus and eurydice. he’d just sung through he opening two songs as he painted, jumping between parts but mostly sticking to orpheus’s lines. he hums along to the opening of come home with me, timing opheus’s yeses between hermes’s lines, before singing at full volume.Ā ā€œcome home with me..ā€ he’s only expecting to hear the next line sung by the eurydice in the recording, but he’s pleasantly surprised to hear another voice coming from behind him. he turns around quickly to face the person who’s decided to join him in song, a smile on his face as he sings orpheus’s next line.Ā ā€œthe man who’s gonna marry you. I’m orpheus.ā€ — @yoori-sgn

When I was little, one of the myths that made an impression, was that of Opheus and Eurydice. Long story short: Eurydice dies, Orpheus decides to get her back, descends to the underworld, charms Hades with his music, is given the chance to take Eurydice back with him. On one condition. She will follow behind him while he’s climbing up, but he mustn’t look at her until they are both out, into the light. Easy enough. Don’t look. Just before they reach the light, poor bastard looks back. Eurydice is sucked into the underworld, forever lost. Now, as a child the myth bothered me. Why couldn’t he just wait? Why was he so stupid as to look? He was strictly told not to, and he was so close to getting what he wanted, so why the fuck did he mess up? In any case, he wasn’t my favorite character. Until now, when I’m tempted to look back, knowing fully well it’s not going to end well for me. If myths were created as lessons and warnings, I’m about to ignore the signs. I grew up with these stories, they practically run in my blood, and yet I haven’t learned. More than 25 years have passed since I got my first mythology book, and I’m about to repeat ancient mistakes.
Don’t look, don’t look, don’t look! Idiot.
