A part two i guess to the Legend one i did. Although, if you compare the two you can definitely see the amount of detail and precision has doubled. But I definitely like a few things about the other one more.

I'm self taught!

I've glanced at art books a lot growing up, but none of them pleased me very much. i didn't like the way the people were drawn, usually the faces or the lack of details in the beginner books.

I learned to draw people early on, starting with stick figures as all kids do and moving on. People are a fascinating subject to me and always have been. Eyes have always been a particular passion, and I spent ages learning how to draw them correctly.

I grew up in a family of artists. All of us draw. My dad does pencil sketches, my mom paints, my sisters and brothers dabble in everything from woven art to paints to black and white to lego sculpture (AND YES THAT IS ART!!!!!). However, despite the fact that everyone has talent in one way or another, there was always something that bothered me about all of their works; the eyes. No one drew eyes that spoke. NO one.

My elder sister was treated like a genius and child prodigy, but her work felt soulless. The eyes held nothing. I thought she was amazing but I hated that her work didn't make me feel much of anything, no matter how much blood or destruction there was (some of her favorite subjects). I got teased by her and the others for focusing so much on eyes, but it paid off a lit because no matter how bad my art was then, it has feelings to it. Soul.

I study faces. I find eye contact difficult, but it's a requirement in my family, so I study faces when I'm with people, noting how the jaw is shaped, how the brows furrow, where the lines of the mouth are and so on. I study people and how their faces and bodies work not just logically, but emotively. I focus on soul first and body second. If the feeling isn't right, then I redraw.

I've studied people and emotions a lot, but my strength, i know, lies in the eyes of my characters.

Shading? Think of a light source and how things move and throw some dark blotches around (I also use a tortillion to smooth it out). The feeling of the piece is my focus though, and it's what makes whatever I draw work. No matter how little skill I possessed, the focus I got from my parents wasn't on skill, but the depth of emotion, and when all else fails, that serves as a fantastic distraction for the fact that I struggle with anatomy and colours!
