A world almost devoid of animals and a woman following the last Arctic terns on their longest migration. To see if they make it or become yet another extinct species. To end her own life either way. If you’ve never lived a book, this one might get you the idea. Wherever you are, you’ll feel the numbing cold of the ocean, the crash of its waves and the kind of freedom only birds can possess. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #instabook #whattoread #whattoreadnext #migrations #thelastmigration #charlottemcconaghy #australianauthor #australianliterature #dystopia #environmentalliterature (at Tallinn, Estonia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcTlvy-LTKW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello everyone and happy Monday to you all. I’ve had today off which has been nice and I hope your week has got off to a great start too. It’s book haul time! I’ve already read two of the books on this haul - Migrations which you can find my review of on the grid but I loved it and have definitely found a new favourite author. I also had to buy What It Means When A Man Falls From The Sky as I only had a digital copy on my Kindle. It’s one of my favourite short story collections and I’m already looking forward to re-reading it. Does anyone else buy a physical copy if you love it in digital form? Finally, we have Swan Song which apart from being a very odd sized paperback 😂 is an epic story that has been compared to The Stand. It follows an America ravaged by nuclear war and an ancient evil called The Man With The Scarlet Eye. He has amassed followers and feeds on their dark desires but is now on the hunt for a special child called Swan. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Have a lovely week everyone! 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookhaul #paperbackbooks #favouritebooks #favouriteauthor #migrations #thelastmigration #charlottemcconaghy #swansong #robertmccammon #whatitmeanswhenamanfallsfromthesky #lesleynnekaarimah #shortstorycollection #environmentalfiction #fantasynovels https://www.instagram.com/p/CUVd_urALTa/?utm_medium=tumblr

It’s a rare but beautiful thing when you find an writer that speaks to your heart and mind so much that you just know they’ve become one of your favourite authors, on the basis of only one book! Migrations or The Last Migration as it is also known is that kind of book. And a huge hug and thank you to bestie @tarheelreader for introducing me to this author. Consider me now officially obsessed!⁣ ⁣ This is the story of Franny Stone in a world not too distant or impossible from our own where many species of wildlife are dying out or have become extinct already. Franny is on a mission to follow the Arctic terns on what might be their last migration to Antarctica. As we follow her journey, it soon becomes clear that Franny might be escaping something in her own life. When her story begins to emerge, she must struggle to find redemption. ⁣ ⁣ This book has everything I could want from a novel and stands proudly within a new kind of genre - environmental fiction - is it a thing? If it is, I’m here for it. One of my great passions is animals and to have a story where they play quite a central role was really beautiful.⁣ ⁣ Not only is this a gorgeously descriptive novel but you have the added bonus of a mystery regarding our female lead and the dark secrets from her past. I found myself completely gripped, totally immersed in Franny’s world and it just left me wanting more. More of the writing, more animals, more environmental awareness. Signed, sealed, delivered - I’m a huge fan. ⁣ ⁣ Five amazing stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #readthisbooknow #migrations #thelastmigration #charlottemcconaghy #beautifulbooks #booksthatmovedme #favouriteauthor #favouritebooks #fivestarread #fivestarreview #booksyouneedtoread https://www.instagram.com/p/CULO9NxL2oZ/?utm_medium=tumblr

Review: The Last Migration by Charlotte McConaghy
The Last Migration by Charlotte McConaghy
For readers of Station Eleven and Everything I Never Told You, a debut novel set on the brink of catastrophe, as a young woman chases the world’s last birds – and her own final chance for redemption.
‘An extraordinary novel… as beautiful and as wrenching as anything I’ve ever read.’ Emily St John Mandel. ‘This novel is enchanting, but not in some safe,…
