Charles' thing is that he wants to feel alive and that's part of the reason why he decided to never move on to the afterlife right? Meanwhile Edwin thinks Charles will move on and that he'll be alone again because 'he isn't good with people'.

But then when the Night Nurse shows up a second time Charles is ready to go wherever -including Hell- as long as Edwin shouldn't have to go back there, meanwhile Edwin refuses that they be split up, and both are okay with being sent together to the Lost and Found Department to be sorted out later as long as they're together-

shotout to the writers who include charles' little slip of "ah, mate" when they're snogging and edwin needing to physically pull away like, "charles, i am begging you, kindly do not mate me when we are in the midst of engaging in these amorous affairs."

and it's already good, but even better when charles needs to fight with the proverbial two wolves that go, "begging, huh?" and "hehe, you said mate me" like he's actually sixteen years old and alive and not a day older. never gets boring, i genuinely eat this up everytime, thank

One thing i havent seen people talk about is that when Charles says "We've got litteraly forever to figure out the rest" its a plea.

They dont have forever. They either get stuck in Hell, becouse Charles looked back and slowed them down on their escape or they get out and go to the lost and found department only to be seprated by paperwork. Theyre running from one prison to another and it trully looks like theyre doomed but-

Charles came to Hell for Edwin, whats a lost and found department? Whats anything when Charles turned around and Edwin was still there?

Theyre a fixed point, just like the lantern in the wall behind them, a light that will never go out.

So when Charles justifies possessing Esther's body by saying "it's kinda like, extenuating circumstances, you know" do you think the extenuating circumstances are that they're trying to rescue Becky and Esther is kicking their asses... or do you think that Charles looked over, saw that Edwin had been walloped and panicked? Like were the extenuating circumstances specifically that Edwin was hurt? Hhmmm, Charles?

To-Do List for Today:

1) Don't think about how alarmed Charles is when Edwin's straining against the mirror in 1.2, how he yells at him to stop before he 'rips his arm clean off,' or about how Edwin (almost uncharacteristically) has no retort at all to that but immediately composes himself

2) Also don't think about how, judging by the already-somewhat-unnecessary explanation Edwin provides in 1.7, Charles must be learning for the very first time that (at least some of) his 70+ years being Tortured In Hell consisted of a giant spider demon repeatedly tearing him apart

3) Especially don't think of those two facts in tandem--

Regardless of the fact that I adore absolutely everything about Edwin Payne, I ALSO love that he can run so fucking fast!

In hell he was leaving Charles in the dirt every time they ran next to each other

It's just so funny that even though Charles is the brawn, he couldn't outrun Edwin for the life of him (and perhaps that's why they have a system of Edwin being the one to open the mirror portals for them like in ep 1)

Already made a post about Charles not being the biggest fan of Monty but rewatching the show just makes it even more obvious like

Edwin might've been worried about Crystal but Charles looks like a kicked puppy seeing him go talk to Monty

Then Edwin's just acting super weird and so is Monty and Charles is taking it very well

And all of a sudden Monty is nice to Charles?? And Charles looks so smug like "everyone likes me eventually" and all (meanwhile Niko cannot be bothered, stay hydrated)

Also if he wanted to keep up the friendliness after Monty's been nice to him, maybe he could've not refused the case despite everyone else agreeing (even Edwin)

And then he's just thrilled everytime Monty and Edwin are together 👍

Kind of wild that "Edwin gets dragged back to Hell and Charles chooses to go rescue him and they have to escape together" wasn't even, like. The climactic final obstacle of the season.
