Hi, long time fan of your fics since returning back to ninjago recently! You're an amazing author and your fics stab me right through the heart! Also, Monstrosity has both simultaneously killed me and given me so many fanfic ideas.

I had a thought regarding the image of the Ninja in Episode 3 from the monster in the water. It did remind me of the Siren from Epic the Musicals "Suffering" but even more terrifying because it shows the version of the thing you want the most the way you remember them best.

Like most of the Ninja and Wu, have their more recent designs because Kai remembers them like that best, right before they were all ripped away from him during the epicentre of the Merge. Those are the versions of his brothers he's fought alongside, played video games against and learnt from, the ones he wants to desperately to go back to. He wants to return right back to that moment, right before the Merge when they were all together and safe.

Meanwhile Nya looks like she does in Season 1 and the Pilots, right before everything started, his baby sister that means the world to him, long before she merged with the ocean. Which, honestly, I bet Kai wished never had to happen. This guy is filled with so much survivors guilt from losing not only Zane, but also his sister, that his perfect and safe version of her is from before anything ever happened. The girl before the skeletons and the Serpentine, before the Overlord and Chen and Morro and Wojira (he doesn't remember Nadakhan). It shows how much Nya means to him, and how much he wishes she never had to go through any of that.

Which hurts even more when you think about Dragons Rising Season 2 Part 1's ending when hes the one sacrificing everything despite what hes been through to return to them... to keep them safe. He's been through hell and worse to just get back home and then he's forced to leave them. But despite being offered more time to escape, he puts them first to keep the rest of the Forbidden Five from escaping despite the fact he may never escape... It absolutely punches you in the gut and i wanna give that boy a huge hug...

Either way Monstrosity and Dragons Rising have destroyed and met my Kai angst quota, I'm sobbing over Rusty and I hope you have an amazing day!

i like to think of it like . He was so desperate to get back to his family and willing to do anything to find them simply because he wanted to make sure they’re safe. Like he’s their protector that’s his job?????? hes trying to clock tf in .so he made his peace in dr s2 that if this is what he needs to do to ensure they’re safe then he’s okay with that. To an extent obvi. coz duhhh he’s still fighting and scratching and kicking to get back to them

but what kills me is in the end he doesn’t even get that. yeah he gets out but there’s no big family reunion. no one waiting for him other than lloyd. everyone else is gone. Like no wonder he up and went exploring the merged lands he would’ve gone insane

BUT DW!!!!!!!!! lloyd’s giving our traumatised boy the biggest hug once he gets back home . He’s got us🤞

OR OR OR was she a past love who got away bc of the decisions he made getting in between them before rekindling once he grew and changed as a person? i have so many questions tee omg

omg i like to think they met after he’s released from prison you know. he goes in at like 17 and comes out at like 22 and now he’s going from job to job. he’s barely existing, just letting ppl yell at him at work and take advantage of his poor records and need for some income so at the end of every day, he just smokes outside this convenience store in misery. and then he sees you—every few times a week on ur way home from work, you stop by to buy a few things. at first u guys flirt and talk outside—it’s nice to have someone not realize who he is. you must not be from around here, and he finds out you’re not. you moved for work. you don’t know the rumors or gossip about him, and you don’t know his records or past, so you just talk to him like a regular person. it’s nice. it’s new. and then somehow u both end up in ur bed one night. your place is way bigger than his—he expects it, but it’s just in his face how different you both are despite being the same age. so it’s just supposed to be a hook up and that’s that—he’d never hope for more. but it happens a few more times and when things start getting a bit more intimate, he tells u and rips the band aid off so u can walk away sooner instead of later and save him the hope/inevitable crushing disappointment.

except u don’t rly care. u nod and hum as he tells you and then you cup his cheek and kiss his forehead and apologize. tell him you’re sorry his teenage years were tough like that and that he didn’t have anyone who could help him until he did some things he can undo. and you shuffle closer and hold him—usually it’s you who passes out on his chest, and he doesn’t ever rly stop you, but this time, you let him bury his head into your neck and play with his hair and it’s nice. it’s new. he likes it, likes you more than he should.

the rest is history.

somewhere along the lines you get knocked up by accident—you’re young and you have so much ahead of you and he almost expects you to panic and say this is over and that you’re getting rid of them—but you’re happy. giggly and teary as you kiss him and…well, he’s happy too, he realizes. he’s not really a father type, he doesn’t think, but he can’t help but be excited when it’s with you. and then when he hears they’re twins? when he holds them both for the first time? yeah, he’s changing. he’s gonna be good—for them, for you.
