Hi me again. If you don't mind me asking what are some of your headcanons for kingdoms that didn't even appear properly.

I'm curious about the Johansen kingdom. I can't decide whether they're less racist or if river just happened to be open minded

Gonna briefly rapid fire these without giving too much and talk about what I have for ALL the kingdoms.

The Ponyheads: I have some… interesting/kind of disturbing lore for how the hell they exist/function that I will not reveal at this time. They were Mewman’s first allies and turned their backs on every other native of Mewni to aid Queen Moe Butterfly in her Massacre. Also, did Star potentially doom them by destroying magic? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Lucitors: They have ties to the very beginnings of magic in the universe and a very important family in Septarsis-Dragonfly!Lore with universal responsibilities. Gonna keep these lore tidbits up my sleeve but they’re very important.

The Johansens: Aha the one you specifically mentioned! “River just happened to be open minded” tbh I refer to Diaz Family Vacation and how it displays River’s monster fighting and Star specifically saying “I get my monster fighting from you!” Really feels like he went out of his way for this for most of his life. But he was open minded enough to change!! Suffice to say, while the Johansens in present day Mewni (Mewni Creek now!) are this clan that focus on hunting and camping and things like that, in SD!Lore they have… a very dark, violent past on Mewni. While most barely remember the atrocities they were responsible for, two very important people remember very very well and hate them bitterly. (heyyy Seth and Zarina)

The Spiderbites: Kinda covered in my last post but I don’t have a lot for them other than well my love for Duchess Recluza and their general “I don’t go out of my way to hurt OR help monsters.” Which isn’t great but yeah they need to be developed more.

The Waterfolk: I saw their passage in Star and Marco’s Guide For Mastering Every Dimension, saw the story about “Mewmans falling into the ocean and slowly developing gills” all while Star keeps referring to them as their “old offensive name” Seaple… and concluded “Okay so obviously they were once considered monsters but their terrain was too difficult to take over so they struck an alliance instead and the Waterfolk took it to save what was left of their people and just have been a recognized kingdom for a long time and the story Star tells is Mewman Propaganda. Also Seaple is probably either very derogatory or straight up a slur. Got it!”

The Pigeons: okay so I found out recently that there are pigeons on Mewni from long ago but they still weren’t a recognized kingdom until Star’s time. Anyway I still say the vast majority of those are actual Earth pigeons and I have a very funny way they ended up on Mewni (Hi Elodie!) but that’s also something I’m keeping up my sleeve

Jaggy Mountain Kingdom: I have nothing for them sorry but are probably only recognized as a kingdom for their terrain being something difficult for Mewmans to conquer.

Also there’s a general theme of “if your terrain is too difficult for us to conquer we will recognize you as a minor kingdom” for the kingdoms so ! There’s that

I’ve asked this about the Magic Book of Spells, but who’s read the other, older, “guidebook” for Star vs the Forces of Evil: “Star and Marco’s Guide to Mastering Every Dimension”?

I have and it is fun, but like a lot of “guidebooks” based on shows that are aimed towards younger audiences, it’s not really dropping any super big lore bombs or things that are likely to make older fans think super hard. The most it really does is reveal the existence of Soupina, Dirhhennia, and Crescenta and the whole thing of Crescenta superseding her older sister. It also reveals some characters’ last names before they were revealed in canon.

My favorite part is definitely where Star makes little comments about her “Grandmas” and their tapestries. Including making a little note in the margin of Moon’s tapestry where she just says Moon’s “Not a grandma yet”.

Magic stew

I just came up with a theory about the episode "My New Wand!" Remember, in that episode, Glossaryck tells Star to "think of the universe as this big old cauldron, and magic is the bubbly stew inside. And your wand is the spoon." And Star insisted that "My wand isn't a spoon. It's a wand." Well I think I have some new insight into this scene.

We know that every queen's wand looks different. And some aren't even wands at all. Examples include: Solaria, whose wand was a sword, Eclipsa, whose wand was a parasol, and Celena, whose wand was a golden fan. So I thought, maybe that's why Star made Glossaryck change the spoon to a wand: because in the hands of the right person, the wand could actually BE a spoon. So then I thought further and thought, now who would that be? And it's someone whose first (and only) mention was in Star and Marco's Guide to Mastering Every Dimension: Soupina the Strange.

Now, Soupina is not listed in the Book of Spells, which means she must have come before Skywynne. (I have a theory that she never existed and Moon just made her up so she could avoid talking about her actual family history, but that's not relevant.) Either way, Star knew that Soupina could use her magic to make soup. Logic dictates that her wand could have been a spoon.

And now that I think about it, the whole scene could have been a reference to her. The stew Glossaryck made could have been a recipe he learned from Soupina. Or, he could have taught her how to dip down using the same metaphor. Whatever the case, this lesson was designed with Soupina in mind.

Next, it’s said that ‘anyone who has held the wand infused their experiences into the wand core’ (photo 2)

And here, they talk about the cheek marks themselves. That they appear when surrounded by a LOT of magic. (Photo 3)

Since Festivia was given the wand, she was surrounded by all that magic experience IN the wand, hence her cheek marks ! Because we KNOW she wasn’t related to the Butterfly family. She was just a peasant girl replacing Meteora when the current king got rid of Eclipsa’s monster daughter.

I don’t know what each one is supposed to symbolize yet.

But this could also explain why Marco had moon cheek marks when he touched Star’s wand trying to find her in Season 3. We already know the wand adjusts to the user (Examples are when Lobster Claws held it, Moon, Eclipsa...)

That being said, Marco’s cheek marks cOULD be part of the blood moon still, but this is just a running theory I have.

If by some miracle Disney lets the SVTFOE crew make Trans Marco canon, how do you think the crew would handle their Transition and what would you like them to do? Ex: (1) Earth way, like Hrt and the process of it or (2) Magic way, with the cheek marks popping up it seems like magic is changing Marco's body and might possibly have Marco have something akin to mewberty and out pops fem Marco from the cocoon. (Silently hoping for 2 since if Toms around during it and Marco Abducts them)

I’m honestly not sure. My best guess is that if trans Marco does become canon, to avoid controversy they would still avoid expressly saying Marco is trans. So I feel if Marco went down the Earth way, the medical route that would become a difficult task. My best guess is Disney is gonna avoid as much controversy as possible. And bare in mind Disney now owns the rather right wing Fox. I could only imagine what Fox and Friends would have to say about trans Marco being canon, some along the lines of, “This is the loony left wing pushing their left wing agenda and making our kids gay so the communists can invade from Russia.” By the way, side note; who thought up the name Fox and Friends for a news show? It sounds like a children’s TV show.

So yes, I am thinking the magic route is likely. However I have to admit mewberty never entered my head. I do like the idea though, as it will be a very old post now I will probably struggle to find but I had a theory regarding mewberty. Like in the book, Star mentions the marks on her family’s cheeks come from their continued connection to magic leaving a mark. Marco has lived alongside Star for nearly a year, had a few spells cast upon them and of course has now used Star’s wand. Also mewberty seems to have a link to magic itself. I mean, I could give more examples but I will go with this one, Glossaryck only deals with magical issues and mewberty seemed to fall into that category as he was willing to help. And I mean Star and her family seem to be the only Mewmans we know of with the marks and therefore it can be assumed they are the only ones who go through mewberty, I actually wonder if mewberty is a mewmancentric term for something that effects all female magic users. Which for now is an unproven theory but yeah. Based on the information we have so far it seems to fit.

I seriously do like the Marco going through mewberty idea though. In fact, I could see that working really well. Leave me to mull it over a bit and I may have some theories.

Lore, history and politics from the Guidebook

Here’s a small compilation of bits in Star and Marco’s Guide to Mastering Every Dimension which help us understand the history of Mewni and the way it functions. I’m not comfortable posting more pages than this, though I know the full thing can probably be found online somewhere. My version is the electronic version available on Kobo.

Tom’s dad Dave is referred to as the “Big Guy”. She feels/felt [?] pressure to stay with him for political reasons, despite the fact that he’s basically one step away from being considered a monster.

Glossaryck has trained all recorded queens of Mewni. (Note, the book is “written” following Bon Bon in the chronology of the show)

The area around the Butterfly Castle is referred to as the Butterfly Groundlands. The Underworld is located directly below the castle’s sewers. The Cloud Kingdom of the Pony Heads is located directly above Butterfly Castle. King Pony Head has some influence over the weather below his kingdom.

Toffee is from a place called Septarsis. Ludo’s castle was called Castle Avarius and was considered a “royal protected structure”. The conflict with Toffee’s monsters was apparently concluded with a “Mewman/Monster Accord”. There is also a treaty between Toffee’s people and Ludo’s family called the Avarius/Septarsis Treaty.

Ludo is considered a prince. Another mention of the Butterfly Groundlands, this time making it clear that the previously mentioned “royal protected structures” are those which lie within the Groundlands and are therefore protected my Queen Moon. Ludo’s actions apparently violate the Mewman/Monster Accord.

Heinous is wanted for employing and conjuring (whatever that means) rogue monsters. Another mention of the Mewman/Monster Accord.

It is apparently illegal to alter dimesnional scissors and there appears to be an official registry for them.

Here we just have a full version of the pop-out book from Mewnipendence Day.

Confirmation that in Mewni succession goes down the female line. Suggestion that abdication may be expected.

Letter from Moon to Star. The Grandma Room’s official name is the Tapestry Room.

Celena could disarm monsters with her beauty. We learn the name of another queen, Soupina the Strange, who could use her magic to make soup.

Eclipsa’s chapter was dark “but sorta meh”. We also see a full version of Festivia’s tapestry.

A new tapestry and queen - Skywnne, Queen of Hours, who was apparently greatly respected. Full version of Moon’s tapestry.

The universe has apparently fabricated Glossaryck to explain magic.

Mention of a “grandmother” called Dirhhennia the Heaped who was the only queen ever to be superseded by her younger sister. It is unknown whether the butterfly family continued down Dirhhenia’s line or her sister’s (Crescenta the Eager), however since Dirhhennia is labeled a “grandmother” while Crescenta is not, it seems likely that succession continued down the normal path even when rulership did not.

Another mention of Skywynne.

Skywynne created the spell “Warnicorn Stampede” by altering previously existing spells. She later joined the Magic High Commission and continued creating (and presumably writing down) spells without her wand - this suggests that a Butterfly may still be able to use the spell book even when it technically belongs to her daughter.

Glossaryck apparently doesn’t teach. Dipping down is to wand-magic as sprinting is to walking.

Glossaryck actually created the MHC to help Mewmans understand and interact with magic. He considers them his kids. “I love you” - clearly his claim to “not have feelings” was a lie.

Hekapoo’s skill is unique, she was created to help Mewmans traverse the multiverse. Glossaryck can “go wherever”.

Lekmet was made to explain “the impermanence of existence” - was he made to die? Moon’s role is to manage the relationship between Mewmans and magic. Glossaryck doesn’t even remember making Omnitraxis. He stops the multiverse from eating itself. 

Moon took pole dancing classes lol. Mewni is matrilineal and men can only become a part of the royal family through marriage.

The Pony Heads on the other hand follow agnatic-cognatic succession, where women can only inherit if there are no legitimate male heirs. King Pony Head ended up having 13 daughters. First ever mention of a Queen Pony Head, however...

... they seem to assume that there will be no more Pony Head children after Pranciss and name our Pony Head princess (also her first name is Lilacia), so perhaps Queen Pony Head is no longer in the picture. There is a tradition of the second-born Pony Head acting as the commander-in-chief of the Pony Head army.

There is a tradition of the 5th born Pony Head acting as the party ambassador for the kingdom.

The cheekmarks have been in the family for generations because of their close proximity to magic. Attention is drawn to the 4 card suits.

The wand has been handed down from queen to firstborn princess for all of recorded history.

Just Like Magic
